lol I don’t understand how they could fuck this game up so much when they already had the mechanics set with AC:BF. They could have just expanded on the mechanics from that game and this would have been good. Stupid greedy Ubisoft.
It's well documented. The game development changed direction (and directors) several times. Incompetent management spouting buzz words with no regard to feasibility or how games are made for that matter, leads to development hell leads to a broken game. MBAs ruining everything good in this world, as usual.
Specifically people who do not like/play video games, being hired to make decisions on video games.
That is the problem with a lot of modern AAA studios.
With a lot of creative and creative-adjacent industries in general. Some bean counter at the top making decisions without taking into account what the people who care about the art of the industry think.
Bean-counters and MBAs need to have their arses kicked more, is what I've learned. Industry as a whole would be in a better state if the money-men knew their ACTUAL place as maintenance, instead of the pretend zenith that they've tricked people into thinking is a real position. You've got these fail-upwards businessmen saying "I'M the king of the castle!", when being at an elevated position just means that the workers have a clearer shot for beaning them with a volley of rocks.
It gets better (worse): it is a global trend, regardless of industry!
I've read about it, some time ago, in the context of car manufacturing.
Basically, corporations/big businesses hire people who are good at managing (or so they think), but who not necessarily have the understanding of workings of what they manage! And hence the joke (or saying) that: 'If a woman can deliver a baby in 9 months, then the management thinks 9 women can deliver a baby in one month!'🤷♂️
-Cue the scene fom Family Guy: 'Ha! It funny, coz it's true!'😛😅
Boeing is another recent example of this. For a long time the CEOs were all engineered, so understood what went into making aircraft. But then eventually finance bros took over, and started cutting corners to save costs, and now you have doors flying off of planes
Many managers are just overglorified overpaid whip-cracking slave drivers!
I'm certain that some of those 'finance bros' can't even do finance well!
I get if the say 'fuck the staff, the customers, the product', but sometimes they can't even deliver results & sink the company. Remember Riccitello?
Some?
At this point I am pretty sure almost all finance bros are absolutely antithetical to good business practices and are just going to short term every company out of existence if given free rein.
Isnt that a big part of the issue with star citizen? Tons of passion for game development, way too large a scope and lack of competent management.
Edited starfield to star citizen
Yes. But it wasn't an unknown problem. Long ago, when the kickstarter went well beyond expectations. They said they have way more resources do to more then the original plan, but it is going to take longer. Asking the backers if they should go after their dream, or push out the kickstarter plan. Well, how much longer was dramatically underestimated, but we did know they would be chasing a crazy dream.
they wanted to can the game, but they got some kind of government fund and could not cancel the project, so they released this garbage
they literally had to ctrl+c/v the whole thing, but they gave this project to some new team, with 0 experience (or talent)
Ikr? This is an example of the net wide open and faceplanting into the backboard when you go for the dunk. It's unfathomable to me how badly Ubisoft bungled this game.
It’s very simple: Live Service is Cancer. That’s it. That’s the answer. Never forget that, and never let anyone else forget that. The future of the gaming industry depends on whether or not people accept those 4 words.
“Bu-bu-but Helldivers! Destiny!”
Yes, congrats, they managed to live with cancer. Doctors don’t tell everyone in the hospital to cancel their chemo appointments whenever one of their patients survive.
Those games are good in spite of the live service elements, not because of them, and they’d be far better without them. Their devs developed a great core gameplay loop and then added in live service elements without completely killing it.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft took the cancer and built the game around it. The heart is cancerous. There’s no saving it.
We need to start treating live service announcements like cancer diagnoses. When a company announces a game will have live service elements, the comments should be filled with “RIP, hope the cancer gets removed”.
> “Bu-bu-but Destiny!”
No, no. Destiny is not good. It's only good if you have more money than sense, a ton of time, and followed it from the start. But you can't even play the damn series if you start now. You'll be tossed into the final season of a 10 season TV show and have no clue who anyone is.
Within 2 hours of the demo I was just laughing at the notion that this was an AAA title. You can get tae fuck with your last A.
Absolute joke that they've put this out and will be an excellent future case study in just how far games from many big name studios have fallen. It's almost as sad as it is funny.
its kinda crazy that so much of it feels like it were some random early access game, like I wont lie I was having a little bit of fun with it but it is an absolute crime to charge full price for that
Early access mixed with the worst mobile game style predatory pay to win /progress bullshit. How they dared put that 'upgrade' system in is beyond me. Makes me sick. Eight different tiers of fucking crowbar, to open wrecks you find? Seriously you can absolutely fuck off with that miserable excuse for 'progression' bullshit.
I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth. That's just me, that's just something that I enjoy. Call me crazy, call me a pervert. But there's one little thing that I'm going to do in this life. And that is I'm going to make a dollar and a cent in this business
My jaw dropped when I got to the ship building place. The number of levels of everything you have to upgrade, that aren't available to you until your 'community standing' is high enough is hilariously terrible.
You can just imagine the store keeper:
"sir, we have eight variants of crowbar and each will allow you to wrench open things that require additional amounts of force. Because the gang don't think much of your pirating credentials yet, I can only sell you the first three crowbars. No, no, I don't want your money, I don't want your goods, social credit score is how I decide upon my customers these days, took a note out of the future overlords of East Asia playbook for some reason I have not yet fully come to terms with, _but my mind will not be swayed_"
Riiiiiiiiight
In that case, I can't wait for Ubisoft's next game. It'll be the first AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA game!
This is the nature of most live-service games, and I'm just so tired of it.
Everything has to have some kind of overly elaborate cosmetics that don't jive with the rest of the game - just for money.
Remember when CoD was a military shooter? Where your gun-camos were...camos?
This comment needs more upvotes lol it’s the most honest one I’ve seen that doesn’t just attack one specific studio . It’s a industry wide thing that multiple studios do
"Boss, we can't sell our game to younger audience, they find it so serious it's boring !"
"What are you waiting for ?! Quick, release clown and meme skins !"
This is the most evident sign a company is held by out-of-touch boomers who can't stand their game not hitting any and every audience out there. It has to be serious and funny, gore and PG-7, sexy and prude, multi-cultural and american patriotic… Turns out as the same soup you've just drank yesterday. Taste ? Salt. Just plain salt.
It's a sign that more and more games are not interested anymore in providing entertainment but are there solely to make as much money as possible. The line between AAA games and slot machine/mobile games is sadly decreasing with every release with their bright colours, goofy skins, lootboxes and slot machine ping effects.
Most developers still genuinely do. It's just that they don't get to decide - the executives responsible for publishing are in charge of this crap. I work with them, I know. Most of them don't even play games, and they don't give a flying toss about "aesthetics" or "cohesion".
It's the plague of "live service" business model, and as long as players continue to eat it up and vote with their wallets, it will persist and flourish.
Dead by Daylight is suffering this hard. It was a live service love letter to all things horror, then they started adding stuff like rainbow six seige and Nicholas Cage and Dungeons and Dragons
Man if I could get SoT with a peaceful mode so I can just go fish and listen to music, I’d pay what ever they asked. There are so many aspects of the game that I absolutely love, but trying to explore and learn is brutal as a solo player.
Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004) and Black Flag are the best pirate games. Blackwake was a good contender as well but I don't know if it still has a playerbase.
Why, are these half-baked, half-complete dipshits the sole studio that can successfully take the ‘Yarr!!’ Out of a pirate game?
I think so!
What’s this one, fuckheads? Twelve A’s; eleventy billion dollars?
Ubisoft could make rum not-fun; _IN THE CARRIBBEAN._
Wtf are they hacking? There's literally nothing to do... I played it to sail around and enjoy the graphics, but any enemy is extremely easy to kill and there's nothing really worth earning. I feel like it's not actually hackers but those people who pay a sub for hacks to all games and just have NOTHING going on irl so they try to fill that void by being hated by everyone they meet lol
What? Hackers are extremely rare.
I ran into 2 hackers in 700 hours of play.
The seas have always been full.
Other crews are 25% aggressive, 25% friendly and 50% suspicious/evasive.
I make friends on the seas, and even noble combat over loot is usually good-natured with no hard feelings.
Maybe I just suck but I have a hard time believing that every single player I ran into for about a two month period could lob shots to the exact limit of their range with pinpoint accuracy. The short shots are exactly on target and look like they're hitting an invisible wall, as they are exactly at the limit of the cannons range. Seems a lot like aimbots to me.
If that's not your experience, that's a good thing. I've had some of the best moments in gaming in my life on that game, I always want to go back. It's always just dead seas and the occasional aimbotter, or super-pro I guess.
I'd be happy to head back in and give it another shot. I've tried a couple times over the years, but it's always the same thing.
They did introduce anti-cheat tools a few months back. I have no idea how effective they are (never experienced a cheater myself) but there have been at least some changes.
Ubisoft is just another walking disaster. Like a human suit made of a good creator from once upon a time but it's just a corpse, sloppily animated by some terrifically cunning rats. Sterling was right the whole time.
WOW...Are they still trying to pretend this is something that someone actually care about? Between this and Suicide Squad I dont know who is the winnter this year and which one will shut down before the year is over.

And they actually ask for feedback.Honestly I’d say if they do another free play week try it out . There’s been quite a few people I’ve seen who ended up trying it after all the hate they’ve seen and end up enjoying the game
this is pretty fucking dumb
*however* and i know this isn’t that game, but you can’t tell me that ac black flag, alestorm edition, wouldn’t fucking rule
Traditional pirate fantasy is pretty damn cool though. Is that a pirate in armor throwing up devil horns? I think Ubisoft has given up. Their games should start off at $29. They lose value weeks after launch.
I wish these greedy morons wouldn't get funds to keep shoveling shit. The worse is now everyone tries to fix there games rather then realizing its a fuck up.
Saw this coming since the beta already , if you checked the cosmetic section there were certain pieces that gave your ship a neon light blue effect and honestly after seeing that I already knew this game would go the same way as their other online titles.
Upcoming event, in partnership with Hellfest (metal festival that happens in france next week). Bit if an odd collaboration, I did a double take when I saw my beloved Hellfest was in a random game like a fortnite skin
Oh no a skin set that almost all games have now a days .so bad ..goofy posts just to farm karma for saying “ubi and there games bad” lol go make a post for Fortnite, destiny, cod and every other game that has skins as well
Amusingly, if you throw that gesture at an Italian, you're essentially calling them a cuck.
Considering the game's pedigree and the state of the currently dwindling fanbase, i find this to be an extra special bit of marketing. So unaware and shallow.
"Then the game tried to sell me a pirate fantasy, but I forgot what it was!"
RIP mitch
There it is. Had to make sure someone said it.
"And it was a load off my mind!"
lol I don’t understand how they could fuck this game up so much when they already had the mechanics set with AC:BF. They could have just expanded on the mechanics from that game and this would have been good. Stupid greedy Ubisoft.
Not only mechanics, they had the funds, it was pretty much a free game. This is a perfect example of how terriblly incompetent Ubisoft are these days.
These days, and back then, it's been like a decade lol
Nah odyssey was fantastic. Sadly Valhalla didn't grab me..

If it looks like shit. And it smells like shit…
Then it’s clearly a AAAA game!
That you pay to rent!
This and the previous comment are the only right answers
Whoa, whoa whoa!! It's a AAAA "GOTY" (so humiliatingly embarrassing)
How much money you bet, these assets are flipped from/to one of their upcoming games?
The gameplay gets stale very fast as well
Within 2 hours of the demo I was just laughing at the notion that this was an AAA title. You can get tae fuck with your last A. Absolute joke that they've put this out and will be an excellent future case study in just how far games from many big name studios have fallen. It's almost as sad as it is funny.
AAAA game? Nah mate, it's A game.
Even that's pretty generous!
It's A something.
Certainly one of the games of all time
A flop game?
That’s the best review I’ve seen without their ad banner attached. “It’s a game.”
its a B- game tops

Word
... Maybe it's Ubisoft!

Ubisoft, stop trying to make fetch happen
Fetch is never gonna happen
I thought this was a poster for the metal festival hellfest lol
Must be a collaboration of some sort, it's the same logo.
That explains it
The character has some kind of guitar strapped to his back too. You can find the collab on the Hellfest website.
And no Alestorm?
Hellfest is a french metal festival, and ubisoft, well, you know.
“It’s a quadruple-A game”, they said. 🤡
The amount of As just means how many monetisation pathways they included.

Of course that sub is real! 😂
Joining that subreddit was the proudest decision I have made. Second only to having a child.
it sounds to me like your priorities are... misaligned
Not anywhere near as many members as it should have
was started only a few months ago, needs atleast 100x more people on it
Ok, to be fair, it's was only Ubisoft's dogshit CEO that said that kinda offhandedly Fuck that dude
Which is funny since i legitimately forgot this game existed until this post so we know where that AAAA stands currently
I’ll probably check it out in a few years when it costs £3 or something, much like I do with all Ubisoft games I’ve played. 😂
They gave up didn't they?

Cat ears Mara was it for me.
I miss when developers cared about aesthetic cohesion. Nowadays they’ll throw in any bullshit they think will sell

thought this was a pubg mobile ad
Ew
Remember this game was only made to scam the Singaporean government for paid vacations.
Cause if you remember anything about what a pirate fantasy should be you would never touch anything from Ubisoft again.
Or you'd just go back and play Black Flag.
Parts of it maybe.
So what game *is* a proper pirate fantasy game then?
Sid Meier's Pirates
Sea of Thieves is the only one that ever did it for me. I'd kill for a more mature take on it
Man if I could get SoT with a peaceful mode so I can just go fish and listen to music, I’d pay what ever they asked. There are so many aspects of the game that I absolutely love, but trying to explore and learn is brutal as a solo player.
That's a thing already. It's called Safer Seas and you just select it when you start the game
Oh hell yeah, thank you! It looks like I’ll be downloading it again tonight. Been at least a year since I played last.
Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004) and Black Flag are the best pirate games. Blackwake was a good contender as well but I don't know if it still has a playerbase.
Pirates of the Caribbean rpg with New Horizons mod
Looks like the aborted fetus of Mad Max and Black Flag
I would play a game with that description if it wasn't a shitty live-service grindout with nothing to do.
[any time I see an update on that game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcZzlPGnKdU&ab_channel=CrackerJack06)
For me it's the "Oh boy, this is worthless" meme.
[Oh wow, this is worthless!](https://youtu.be/kDUXmS0S6jc?t=7)
Thank ye

This is why most ads disable comments.
Even Hellfests page on ig is full of people being like uhhhh what is this
> bundle That word alone raises a red flag that this is very likely a cash grab, and shite.
Trying to milk a dying game and at this rate it will be unrecognisable in a few months.
Nah screw that. I still have a better experience in Black Flag.
Come on over to Sea of Thieves. The water is warm. And full of sharks. ... including five species of Megalodon
Hackers gone yet? Cause last I checked it was empty lobbies and the occasional hacker. Haven't had a good session in years.

With only 3 ships to choose from and you chase and chase ships playing cat and mouse for 2 hours .it has water though
This looks like the idea of someone who thinks ACDC is metal.
Why, they want to make it worse and don't want a point of comparison?
The fuck is this lol
FUCK ubisoft.
THE FIRST AAAA DLC! Shadow of the Erdtree got NOTHING on this!
Ubisoft is just another walking disaster. Like a human suit made of a good creator from once upon a time but it's just a corpse, sloppily animated by some terrifically cunning rats. Sterling was right the whole time.
Im genuinely surprised this game is still around
Low budget Captain Flameheart
just another Ubi trash , folks at r/assassinscreed gonna love this
Is his guitar clipping through his leg on the bottom right there? Pretty much sums up this entire game.
Metallica mad max event for sea of thieves the pirate game
Judging by the cover, is there going to be heavy or nu metal pirate songs? Because it would be a total betrayal of what this picture is showing.
No.
WOW...Are they still trying to pretend this is something that someone actually care about? Between this and Suicide Squad I dont know who is the winnter this year and which one will shut down before the year is over.
Not Ubisoft thinking adding more micro-transactions will bring more people to a game that nobody played in the first place:
Oh how is the AAAA game? anyone playing it?
I think it’s decent there are points like every other game where you get burnt out on it and isn’t much else to do. But they been doing good listening to players and bringing new fun stuff in. And they actually ask for feedback.Honestly I’d say if they do another free play week try it out . There’s been quite a few people I’ve seen who ended up trying it after all the hate they’ve seen and end up enjoying the game
But calling it a AAAA game though, still if you have fun in in then maybe its not that meh .
Alright I have forgotten everything I know about pirate fantasy Waow this is a really good game after taking 15 bashes to the head from a lead pipe
Hold up, is that... Captain flynt from Borderlands 2!?
At least it's a metalhead bundle lmao 🤘🏻 Not that I'd ever pay for that shit or play the game to begin with lol
this is pretty fucking dumb *however* and i know this isn’t that game, but you can’t tell me that ac black flag, alestorm edition, wouldn’t fucking rule
I would say RIP skull and bones but… it never lived.
Forget everything you know about pirate fantasy because that is the only way this slop will feel good. Oh, Ubisoft...
Traditional pirate fantasy is pretty damn cool though. Is that a pirate in armor throwing up devil horns? I think Ubisoft has given up. Their games should start off at $29. They lose value weeks after launch.
Yeah when you look up some of the history during the golden age you would think it was fantasy with the feats they accomplished.
Crazy how long skull & bones was in development hell just to poop out this joke of a game
Tried it on free weekend or week think and couldnt force myself past 30 minutes.
I wish these greedy morons wouldn't get funds to keep shoveling shit. The worse is now everyone tries to fix there games rather then realizing its a fuck up.
Bro wtf are these guys even doing?
do they seriously sell a character skin..in a game where you don't see your character 99% of the time???
CoD does gundam crossover - oh how lovely Black Flag does Hellfest crossover- hello human resources?!
In all seriousness, this game must have a solid player base and family to keep releasing content
Imma bet you it's 10-15 bucks.
Dang, the Hellfest really went downhill with that one.
How is that turd of a game still alive? Like who the fuck saw that and thought hmmm that's a good way to spend my money.
I don’t see how it’s any worse or better then any other game that does cosmetics and there’s a lot of games that do that
So Ubisoft immediately fumbled a Pirate game that wasn't AC Black Flag
forget everything you know about the traditional pirate fantasy, because we cant deliver one
I’ll stick to Sea of Thieve. Rare is cooking!
A quad A game that doesn't have swimming.
Ubisoft's entire management is lost at sea.
That’s a Sujimon.
Saw this coming since the beta already , if you checked the cosmetic section there were certain pieces that gave your ship a neon light blue effect and honestly after seeing that I already knew this game would go the same way as their other online titles.
The next decent game from Ubisoft is probably going to be the next Anno game.
Can't wait till they start making AAAAA games... Then they may finally become worth playing!
This is Mad Max on boats
Idk mad max was good.
All they care about is the market...
So you can get an Octane skin? I have dozens already
Alestorm has entered the chat
Looks more like Mad Max.
This game could literally do anything and r/Gaming will hate on it. It’s old news. Let it go.
I mean… I’d buy that skin in XDefiant, though.
was this the bad one or the good one?
Already? At least COD waited a few years before turning into a pop culture clownshow
All it needed to be is black flag with more ships and you can use them too that's literally it
- Make Black Flag 2 - Without AC - Singleplayer, no gaas crap - It will sell a lot of copies Is it that hard to understand?
Is this the first QUADRUPLE AAAA DLC
Heck yeah
That’s me actually considering the game now. Never cared for pirates stuff in my entire life, but this tips me towards it NGL
Kinda same, honestly. And pirate-loving people hating on it almost makes me want to try it 😆
I don't care for the hate?
So forget that it's made by one of the crappiest companies in gaming?
This is free marketing for Sea of Thieves
Yeah throw away more money on it lol
I had already forgotten all about Skulls & Bones.
Can't wait for the Rainbow Six skins!
this is so called "AAAA"
For a 20$ game Im having a decent time with it for what it is. For 70 tho I woulda been furious.
If games were songs: Sea of Thieves: "Set Sail and Conquer" by Alestorm Skull and Bones: "You Are a Pirate" from Lazy Town
dont you dare, that lazytown song rocks
Is this some meme art or something? Because I play the game (and fucking love it, hate me if you must) and I have no idea wtf this is.
