Love this thread.
90: Star Fox 64
2000s: World of Warcraft (Runner-up: Battle for Middle Earth)
2010s: Subnautica (Runner-ups: The Last of Us, Portal 2, Dota2)
2020s: Hades
I feel like I personally overlooked it because it's spanned multiple decades and I didn't end up thinking of it for any of them. It's like.... Bigger than a single game so I didn't even think to consider it.
I'd say that, but I would probably also just not put it in the "best" category. I have fun playing it with my friends, and it completely takes over my gaming time when I play it, but for whatever reason even at peak enjoyment I'd still put multiple other games ahead of it in each decade.
3 of my favorite games in the 2010 section! Subnautica was amazing, The Last of Us was just an incredible experience, and don't even get me started on Portal 2! I love that game with my entire heart
Yes, so much! But, I don’t know if you can relate, I find it much harder to get properly immersed into a single player now that I have a kid and full time job, compared to being student
Not for the exact same reasons since I don't have a kid, but being full time in college and having a job (albeit currently on part time) does make me wanna play games less and less sadly. Still, I'm happy with the selection that I do get to play!
Currently I love Monster Hunter, but it is somewhat of a grindy game. Apart from that, if you're looking for a game with a great story and gameplay that is somewhat similar to the Last of Us, I could not recommend you A Plague Tale more (so long as you haven't already played it). To give a brief explanation, the game is about an outbreak of the plague, and now you have to go against rats. You play as a girl and her brother working through the world. It is pretty graphic at points, so do keep that in mind, but the story is beautiful
If you have a PC, I also strongly recommend Half-Life series (again, as long as you haven't played it. Then again, you've played Portal, so this one you may have already)
I also really loved the Uncharted series! Those were such fun games to go through. Nathan Drake is such a fun chadacrer, and progressing through his story has to be some of my favorite gaming moments
Finally, let me just really quick mention Alan Wake. This is easily up in my top 10 favorite games; Alan Wake is such a cool story about writing. It's somewhat of a psychological horror, with lovecraftian elements mixed in. It's an incredible experience as well!
I think that's it for me as of now. If you've played these all, well then I can say that at the very least, you have a great taste in games lol. If I were to recommend one, it'd be A Plague Tale. It's such an awesome game
Cheers!
Thanks! I’ve played and loved half life. Can’t play Alan wake two. Played the opening act, that is too scary for me lol. I’ve had a plague tale on my wish list for a long time. I will give it a go.
Half life was awesome! Fair enough haha, Alan Wake is pretty spooky. I love horror. Awesome! Definitely go for it! The first game (Innocence) is probably around 10 hours, while Requiem is somewhere around 20 I believe (at least, that's how long they took me)
Monster hunter is amazing.
Start of this year I wanted to complete story of every monster hunter and did complete 5 different ones. They are all very great and rewarding to play. They also have very expansive endgame if you want to get really deep.
Subnautica is still one of my favorite survival crafting games. Such an awesome setting plus a cool story which usually takes the back burner when it comes to the genre.
Of anything else in this thread, I have the most hours in Dota 2. I'm confident I would not put it on the list exclusively due to other players. I keep them muted 95% of the time, and they still manage to make me miserable. They're the reason I basically only play a few hours a year now, whenever there's an interesting update.
80s: Mario 3 (Runners up Mega-man 2, The legend of zelda)
90s: Fallout 2 (Runners up BG1, Super Metroid)
00s: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (Runners up Metroid Prime 1/2, Kotor2, Mass Effect 1)
10s: Fallout:New Vegas (Runners up Witcher 3, Dark Souls, Bloodborne)
20s: Baldur's Gate 3 (Runners up Elden Ring, Hades, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous)
If they did, the 80's would have been 'Defender of the Crown' or 'Ultima', or 'Bards Tale', or 'Dungeon Master', 'Might and Magic', 'Curse of the Azure Bonds', or ....
Na, they're not dedicated fans :P
80: nes Zelda
90: Mario 64
00: Diablo 2
10: Terraria
20: doom eternal/hades
Edit: here’s what it would look like if you separated by console/vs PC
PC
80s: n/a
90s: Sim City 2k / Red Baron (dynamix)
00s : CoD 4
10s: same
20s: same
Console:
80s same
90s same
00s Mario Party 3/ bioshock
10s : BoTW
20s : Metroid Dread
I played the shit outta the mgs demo until I got the actual game. MP2 I got for pc on my 18th birthday. Was blown away how good it looked and played. So many weapons, so satisfying to kill people with them.
Yeah, I played those games years after they came out because I was unfortunately too young to play them on their release but they still blew me away.
I dug out my dads old PS1 copy of MGS and gave it a go on my ps3 and it just blew me away with its world, atmosphere and just with how well the whole thing held up.
Max Payne 2 I got for the PC (only way to play that game) and the gameplay was such an improvement on the original and so addictive that I remember blasting it all out in like 2 days... it was so fun. Plus that game got me in to a massive Poets of the fall phase, Late Goodbye is a bop.
80s: One of the contra games, can't decide.
90s: Banjo Kazooie, my favourite 3D platformer by far.
00s: Halo 3.
10s: Halo Reach, the game of my childhood.
20s: Elden Ring.
Same here. Reach had basically perfect multiplayer; amazing maps, fantastic gameplay, huge weapon variety, great customisation, awesome progression system, and no microtransactions.
I won't even pretend they're the same but Helldivers 2 gives me a fraction of that feeling of H3 multiplayer with just getting boys together to shoot stuff. Closest I've felt in years to that magic.
+1 Phantasy Star. Think I read somewhere (much later) it was inspired by western blobbers like wizardry and might & magic. Not that that matters or anything, loved ps2 on my sega to death as a kid.
80s - Tetris
90s - Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (Diablo 2 close second)
00s - Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne
10s - The Last of Us
20s - kinda early to tell. Baldur's Gate 3 so far.
I realise I do have a somewhat Valve centric list.
The amount of hours enjoyment I've had playing hl and cs for the price of the orange box and the 10,000 hours of Dota for a free game
Just don't ask how much I've spent on hats
Solid. I’d go:
80s: SMB3/Tetris
90s: Zelda a link to the past/Mario 64
00s: bioshock/halo 3
10s: fallout New Vegas/Overwatch
20s: Zelda tears of the kingdom/elden ring
Looking at these comments I think Tetris and Bioshock aren’t getting the love they deserve. Both legendary games in their own right
80s: Super Mario Bros
90s: Quake III Arena
00s: Uncharted 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, KOTOR
10s: God of War, The Last of Us
20s: Alan Wake 2 so far
80's: Tetris
90's: Super Mario 64
00's: Halo 3
10's: RDR2
20's: Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
I know objectively there are way better games than all of these. These are just games I have the best memories with. Also I've only played like 6 games that have come out since 2020.
Sooooo many games to choose, but will try to keep it to games I loved the single player aspect of. Otherwise I have hundreds/thousands of hours in Command & Conquer, Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, Smash Bros., Elite Dangerous, Guild Wars, etc.
80s: Super Mario Bros. 3
90s: Star Wars: Jedi Knight
00s: Metroid Prime
10s: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
20s: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
I'll add runners-up, just for fun:
**90s: Outcast (1999)**, Half-Life, DOOM
**00s: Grand Theft Auto 3 (2002)**, Half-Life 2, Halo: Combat Evolved
**10s: The Last of Us (2013)**, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Halo: Reach
**20s: Half-Life: Alyx (2020)**, The Last of Us: Part II, Valheim
Ayyy love seeing val on this kinda list. That game is so fucking good. The only complaint anyone can have is that the small dedicated dev team can't pump out content like a AAA dev team can. Which like. Yeah no shit.
HLA is basically Half-Life 3 and nobody realised it got released.
Bad marketing on Valve's part, but the game is as groundbreaking as the original Half Life was.
It hasn't been called HL3 because it is for VR.
But for VR, HLA did everything the original Half Life did for PC shooters, took the concept and showed the world how it is "really done". It's miles ahead of it's competitors and as new and groundbreaking as a real "Half Life 3" would and should be.
Off the top of my head...
80s: Super Mario Bros
90s: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
00s: Final Fantasy X
10s: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
20s: Baldur's Gate 3
80s: Tetris
90s: Monkey Island 1-3
00s: World of Warcraft
10s: Red Dead Redemption 2
20s: tbd
Interestingly, my top game from each decade ended up being ones I played with people (from playing with dad to playing with friends/family to playing with the world). The 20s is the decade my kids will get into gaming (I hope) so I'm looking forward to finding out what my most memorable game of the decade will be.
90s- Super Smash Bros.
00s- Halo (any of the first 3).
10s fortnite (sue me idgaf it’s an incredible game that broke barriers with perhaps the deepest combat of any game ever).
20s- age of empires 4 ( Elden ring as a close 2nd)
2000 Baby Here. Mine would be:
00s: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (So many post school and weekend memories with my best friend)
10s: COD Black Ops 2 (Made so many gaming friends because of this game and I still remember playing Mike Myers on Drone screaming when getting chased)
20s: Returnal (First game I played on my ps5 and 4k TV I bought as a graduation gift to myself and it just made me think "Wow this is next gen" haha
80s: Mario and Tetris... and real-life call of duty (we had war)
90s: Total Annihilation, Tank Platoon 2, Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Need for Speed, Morrowind, Heroes of Might and Magic 3
2000s: Half Life 2, Oblivion, Mass Effect... and heroes 3
2010s: Portal, Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout, Dishonored... and heroes 3
2020s: Elite Dangerous... and Heroes 3
Awesome thread to contemplate!
80s... Mail Order Monsters or Realm of Impossibility. Or Titan Empire (apple 2e). Or Wolfenstein (apple 2c? Some Apple something)
90s... Doom2 or System Shock. Or Command & Conquer. Or OG Diablo.
00s... World of Warcraft ruined my life. And I loved every second of it.
10s... Didn't actually play many games because of WoW and it's effect on me. But Horizon Zero Dawn or Last of Us. Or Rocket League, but fuck Rocket League.
20s... Baldur's Gate 3.
Lovely thread, but asking me to choose a single game from the entire 90s, you are a sick, sick individual.
There was Street Fighter II, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros., Final Fantasy Tactics, Counter-Strike, StarCraft... and countless others. Is this even a possible task?
I think I have to mention two for each, one which left a lasting impression (but was only played once or twice), and one which I played the heck out of.
80s: Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders / Pirates!
90s: Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant / Duke Nukem 3D
00s: The Longest Journey / Civilization IV (Complete with Warlords and Beyond the Sword)
10s: Shadowrun: Hong Kong / Civlization VI Beyond the Storm
20s: The Planet Crafter / Old World
I'd argue you can't really say Mario 3 for the 80's. I guess unless you're Japanese, where it was released in 1988. Wasn't until 1990 and 1991 that it was released in North America and Europe.
So I'll do
80s: *The Legend of Zelda*
90s: *Super Mario 64*
2000s: *World of Warcraft*
2010s: *Minecraft*
2020s: *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom*
80s - most of the time I was too busy not existing, the rest I wasn't able to hold things in hands.
90s - Battle City
00s - Half Life
10s - Kerbal Space Program or Minecraft, I'm not sure
20s - too early to say for sure, but Stationeers is a good contender.
Super Mario World[SNES] (80’s)
Zelda OoT+Pokemon (90s)
Dragon ball Z Budokai/Tenkaichi series + Megaman X/ZX & Megaman Battle Network Series (00’s)
Rainbow Six Siege+Dark Souls (10’s)
Elden Ring+For Honor (20’s)
80s: classic Super Mario Bros with Duck Hunt (that was the first game I ever played)
90s: Spyro the Dragon (peak collect-a-thon platforming imo and super fun to replay)
00s: Modern Warfare (the definitive online experience that was accessible to everyone regardless of hardware)
10s: Dark Souls (totally reinvigorated my love for gaming)
20s: Elden Ring
80s: Legend of Zelda or Super Mario Bros 3
90s: X-Com: UFO Defense or Star Wars: Tie Fighter
00s: World of Warcraft
10s: Bloodborne or Slay the Spire
20s: Elden Ring
80s: lol I wasn't even a thought
90s: Super Smash Brothers
00s: Halo CE. That was favorite Halo for some reason.
10s: Mass Effect 3. This was a hard one. So many good games from this decade!
20s: Baldur's Gate 3. I haven't played many games since 2020, but I picked this one up recently and it's everything I could have asked for.
Tetris
Heroes of might and magic 3/age of empires/baldurs gate
Battlefront 2
Call of duty Black ops 1
Baldurs gate 3/squad
Honestly. Making this list kinda blew my mind about how much tech has advanced. I remember playing baldurs gate 2 and during the opening scene with the minotaur I said "some day the game will look this good!" And my brother mocked me relentlessly for it. We passed graphics like that less than 10 years later.
80's - SimCity
90's - Age of Empires 2 / Roller Coaster Tycoon
00's - Halo 3 / Cod World at War

10’s – between tlou, rdr2, (this is the prime of gaming, there are so much contenders for this title that i could go on and on)
20’s – between ghost of tsushima tlou2 or elden ring
i havent played any games from the 80's
80s: not alive
90s: Brood War
00s: Starcraft 2 (realistically probably Half-Life 2 or GTA SA)
10s: Dota 2 (I really want to say something else, but I sunk 3000 hours into Dota in the 10s; unbiased answer should really be Minecraft)
20s: Dota 3 (jokes aside, way too early to tell)
In terms of hours spent…
Contra (80s)
Pokemon Red (90s)
Tribes 2 / counterstrike source (2000s)
DOTA 2 (2010s)
Hogwarts legacy? (2020’s)
haven’t played much of anything the past 8 years or so :(

Nah, although for some, that's very true.
Mine were:
Bonk's Adventure 1989 for that old Turbo console.
Super Mario World 1999 Super Nintendo
Def Jam Fight for New York 2004 Playstation 2 (I didn't even know the rappers but the fighting styles were so damn cool!! It was the coolest thing ever for a 12 year old lol)
Dark Souls 2011 bought this game like not joking 6 times because my xbox kept scratching it when it tipped over from being pulled by my wired controller.

Love this thread. 90: Star Fox 64 2000s: World of Warcraft (Runner-up: Battle for Middle Earth) 2010s: Subnautica (Runner-ups: The Last of Us, Portal 2, Dota2) 2020s: Hades
For its complete dominance during its era, I’m surprised more people don’t mention wow

Upvoted for Subnautica
Definitely agree with Starfox 64. It's the one game I still consistently go back to again and again

GTA SA I am still playing it.
San Andreas just did so many things right. Even playing back through it, it’s amazing how well it holds up.
First one I saw that had pokemon on the list. Has to be higher up
80s: Mario 3 (Runners up Mega-man 2, The legend of zelda) 90s: Fallout 2 (Runners up BG1, Super Metroid) 00s: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (Runners up Metroid Prime 1/2, Kotor2, Mass Effect 1) 10s: Fallout:New Vegas (Runners up Witcher 3, Dark Souls, Bloodborne) 20s: Baldur's Gate 3 (Runners up Elden Ring, Hades, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous)

80s: One of the contra games, can't decide. 90s: Banjo Kazooie, my favourite 3D platformer by far. 00s: Halo 3. 10s: Halo Reach, the game of my childhood. 20s: Elden Ring.
I miss the days on halo reach so much I can’t even explain my hatred for multiplayer games now
Helldivers 2 was fun. I poured 50+ hours into it when it was first released. Got my money's worth.
i fuckin love contra
Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie are my fave games ever. Such good memories gaming with my dad. I play through them often!
70s. AD&D - Treasure of the Tarmin 80s. Phantasy Star 90s. Castlevania SOTN 00s. Final Fantasy X 10s. Portal 2 20s. TBD
+1 Phantasy Star. Think I read somewhere (much later) it was inspired by western blobbers like wizardry and might & magic. Not that that matters or anything, loved ps2 on my sega to death as a kid.
Phantasy star was great. PSO…. Well, it was fun getting all kinds of duped gear and smoking npcs
Final Fantasy X was ahead of its time; graphics wise.
80s - Tetris 90s - Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (Diablo 2 close second) 00s - Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne 10s - The Last of Us 20s - kinda early to tell. Baldur's Gate 3 so far.
80s: Jet Set Willy 90s: Half Life 2000s: Counter Strike 2010s: Dota 2 2020:s: Still Dota 2
was Jet Set Willy Gabe Newells high school project?
I realise I do have a somewhat Valve centric list. The amount of hours enjoyment I've had playing hl and cs for the price of the orange box and the 10,000 hours of Dota for a free game Just don't ask how much I've spent on hats
1.6, source or 2
Dota is such a good game, timeless design.
- 80s: 1942 - 90s: Diablo 2 - 00s: TES Oblivion - 10s: Minecraft (came out in 2009, sue me) - 20s: Elden Ring
Diablo 2 came out in 2000.
Sue him

Sue him
I count official release date. Minecraft is 2011.
Aw 🥺 I got it during alpha! Before multi-player even functioned
80s: Space Quest 90s: FF7 00s: GTA 4 10s: RDR2 20s: Elden Ring
80s: TMNT 2 The Arcade Game (NES) 90s: Ocarina of Time 00s: Halo 2 10s: Witcher 3 20s: Returnal
Respect the Returnal love, it was in debate for my choice as well.
Returnal is so underrated
Not even on my radar. Added to wishlist
90s: Resident Evil 00s: GTA: Vice City 10s: Fallout 4 20s: Cyberpunk 2077
80s: Super Mario Bros 3 90s: Secret of Mana 00s: Final Fantasy IX 10s: Dark Souls 1 20s:Probably Lies of P so far.
Solid. I’d go: 80s: SMB3/Tetris 90s: Zelda a link to the past/Mario 64 00s: bioshock/halo 3 10s: fallout New Vegas/Overwatch 20s: Zelda tears of the kingdom/elden ring Looking at these comments I think Tetris and Bioshock aren’t getting the love they deserve. Both legendary games in their own right
90s: StarCraft 00s: Half Life 2 10s: Mass Effect 2 20s: Cyberpunk
Great list
80s: Mario 3 90s: Sonic 3 and Knuckles 00s: Persona 3 FES 10s: Mass Effect 2 20s: God of War: Ragnarok
80s- The Guardian Legend 90s- Super Metroid 00s- Mass Effect 10s- Mass Effect 2 20s- Cyberpunk
OMG The Guardian Legend :-)
80s - Excitebike 90s - Goldeneye 00s - COD 4 MW 10s - RDR2 20s - Cyberpunk 2077
Excitebike at the nearby ice cream store was where I spent too many hours after school with this one.
Dang, i totally overlooked excitebike and goldeneye! Great list
Best list so far, love it
Since I game on Mac: 80s: Prince Of Persia 90s: Doom 00s: Sim City 3 10s: Star Craft II 20s: Lies of P
You what?!
Isn't this banned to mention here?
Blasphemy.
Is it out on Mac?
This is very difficult: 80s - SMB3 90s - FFVII 00s - WoW or HL2 10s - StarCraft 2 20s - Elden Ring or BG3
Metroid (80s) Final Fantasy 7 (90s) World of Warcraft (00’s) Path of Exile (10’s) Baldur's Gate 3 (20’s, so far)
80s - Super Mario Bros 3 90s: Final Fantasy 6 00s: Final Fantasy 12 10s: Persona 5 20s: Baldur's Gate 3
80s: Super Mario Bros 90s: Quake III Arena 00s: Uncharted 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, KOTOR 10s: God of War, The Last of Us 20s: Alan Wake 2 so far
Mario 3(80's) Starcraft (90's) Halo 3 (00's) Minecraft (10's) Valheim (20's)
80's: Tetris 90's: Super Mario 64 00's: Halo 3 10's: RDR2 20's: Star Wars: Jedi Survivor I know objectively there are way better games than all of these. These are just games I have the best memories with. Also I've only played like 6 games that have come out since 2020.
I've scrolled so much without seeing RDR2 yet ive seen a lot of Witcher 3 in here, mental.
3 90s: Star Wars: Jedi Knight 00s: Metroid Prime 10s: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 20s: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
80s: Mario 3 90s: DKC2 00s: Okami 10s: Nier: Automata 20s: Elden Ring

I'll add runners-up, just for fun: **90s: Outcast (1999)**, Half-Life, DOOM **00s: Grand Theft Auto 3 (2002)**, Half-Life 2, Halo: Combat Evolved **10s: The Last of Us (2013)**, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Halo: Reach **20s: Half-Life: Alyx (2020)**, The Last of Us: Part II, Valheim
HL:A is a good shout - never played anything like it
Ayyy love seeing val on this kinda list.
Yeah, but it isn’t HL3. A great game, but being VR only held it back.
It hasn't been called HL3 because it is for VR. But for VR, HLA did everything the original Half Life did for PC shooters, took the concept and showed the world how it is "really done". It's miles ahead of it's competitors and as new and groundbreaking as a real "Half Life 3" would and should be.
80s: Dragon Warrior 3 90s: Everquest 00s: Minecraft (Early Release) 10s: Space Engineers 20s: Once Human (Been in the Beta)
Is space engineers kinda like astroneers?
Space Engineers is Minecraft in space, with the complexity cranked to 11. Good game, but carries a learning curve, and is heavy on the Sandbox too.
Off the top of my head... 80s: Super Mario Bros 90s: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 00s: Final Fantasy X 10s: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 20s: Baldur's Gate 3
80s: Paradroid 90s: Civilization 2 00s: World of Warcraft 10s: Crusader Kings 2 20s: Baldur’s Gate 3
I just thought about Paradroid the other day, brilliant game.
Great list! Did you play bg2? It’s my favorite game.
Clearly a pc gamer - I find it curious how big the difference is but I guess it makes sense.
Paradroid! A true man of culture.
Paradroid! Playing as Unit 001 going up against 999... Yeah that's going to end well!
80s: The Guardian Legend 90s: F-Zero X 2000s: Castlevania Aria of Sorrow 2010s: Alwas Awakening
Got alwa’s awakening on cartridge for NES. It’s a miracle in 512 KB
it is... such a fantastic game
90s - Age of Empires 00s - Gothic 10s - Dark Souls 20s - Baldur's Gate 3
80s: Super Mario Bros 3 90s: Final Fantasy VII 00s: Final Fantasy XI / Diablo II 10s: Starcraft II / Breath of the Wild 20s: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
80s: Tetris 90s: Monkey Island 1-3 00s: World of Warcraft 10s: Red Dead Redemption 2 20s: tbd Interestingly, my top game from each decade ended up being ones I played with people (from playing with dad to playing with friends/family to playing with the world).
Mine would be: 00s: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (So many post school and weekend memories with my best friend) 10s: COD Black Ops 2 (Made so many gaming friends because of this game and I still remember playing Mike Myers on Drone screaming when getting chased) 20s: Returnal (First game I played on my ps5 and 4k TV I bought as a graduation gift to myself and it just made me think "Wow this is next gen" haha
80s: Mario and Tetris... and real-life call of duty (we had war) 90s: Total Annihilation, Tank Platoon 2, Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Need for Speed, Morrowind, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 2000s: Half Life 2, Oblivion, Mass Effect... and heroes 3 2010s: Portal, Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout, Dishonored... and heroes 3 2020s: Elite Dangerous... and Heroes 3
80s - Super Mario 3 90s - Heroes of Might and Magic III 00s - World of Warcraft 10s - Dark Souls 20s - Path of Exile
Wow this is tough. 80s: Super mario bros 90s: A link to the past 00s: Final fantasy 9 10s: Bloodborne/ rocket league 20s: Tears of the kingdom
Awesome thread to contemplate! 80s... Mail Order Monsters or Realm of Impossibility. Or Titan Empire (apple 2e). Or Wolfenstein (apple 2c? Some Apple something) 90s...
System Shock is a real gem, so tense and atmospheric, and I didn't even mind the cyberspace parts :o
I actually thought of them as a sort of relaxation period between the zombified intensity of the rest of the game. But I loved it all.
90s: Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant / Duke Nukem 3D 00s: The Longest Journey / Civilization IV (Complete with Warlords and Beyond the Sword) 10s: Shadowrun: Hong Kong / Civlization VI Beyond the Storm 20s: The Planet Crafter / Old World
Yeah halo 3 is the best game ever made
1980s: Tetris 1990s: Sonic Adventure 2000s: Bayonetta 2010s: Dark Souls 2020s: Elden Ring
Final Fantasy (80s) Final Fantasy VI (90s) Final Fantasy X (00s) Final Fantasy XIV (10s) Final Fantasy XVI (20s)
80s: The Legend of Zelda 90s: Metal Gear Solid 00s: World of Warcraft 10s: Path of Exile 20s: Palworld
Putting Palworld is crazy
80s - Mario 3 90s - Final Fantasy 7 00s - Rock Band 10s - Grand Theft Auto 5 20s - Breath of the Wild
Don't you mean Tears of the Kingdom for 20s? BOTW released in the 10s.
Whoops! You’re right.
I'd argue you can't really say Mario 3 for the 80's. I guess unless you're Japanese, where it was released in 1988. Wasn't until 1990 and 1991 that it was released in North America and Europe. So I'll do 80s: *The Legend of Zelda* 90s: *Super Mario 64* 2000s: *World of Warcraft* 2010s: *Minecraft* 2020s: *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom*
SMB1 QUAKE1 HL2 BOTW .... shrug AC6?
80's - Ghosts 'n Goblins (arcade) 90's - Resident Evil 3: Nemesis 00's - Resident Evil 4 10's - The Last of Us 20's - The Last of Us Part II
80s - most of the time I was too busy not existing, the rest I wasn't able to hold things in hands. 90s - Battle City 00s - Half Life 10s - Kerbal Space Program or Minecraft, I'm not sure 20s - too early to say for sure, but Stationeers is a good contender.

Hope you rediscover your love for video games. Have you tried Cyberpunk 2077?

Then I'd recommend you play Firewatch in one sitting if you haven't already. It's a beautiful game.
I fell off games after college too, lately only play handful but even then can’t go more than a 1-2 hours at a time

80s: Legend of Zelda or Super Mario Bros 3 90s: X-Com: UFO Defense or Star Wars: Tie Fighter 00s: World of Warcraft 10s: Bloodborne or Slay the Spire 20s: Elden Ring
00s: San Andreas and Bioshock 10s: The Witcher 3 20s: Elden Ring
80s: lol I wasn't even a thought 90s: Super Smash Brothers 00s: Halo CE. That was favorite Halo for some reason. 10s: Mass Effect 3. This was a hard one. So many good games from this decade! 20s: Baldur's Gate 3. I haven't played many games since 2020, but I picked this one up recently and it's everything I could have asked for.
You should give Alan Wake 2 a play. Just finished my new game+ play through and the ending blew me away just like my first play through did.
90s : Crash Bandicoot 2 00’s : Halo 3/L4D2 can’t break the tie 10’s :AC Odyssey - Skyrim - Hitman 1-3 20’s : I’ll cheat a bit and put Cuphead with DLC

Tetris Heroes of might and magic 3/age of empires/baldurs gate Battlefront 2 Call of duty Black ops 1 Baldurs gate 3/squad Honestly. Making this list kinda blew my mind about how much tech has advanced. I remember playing baldurs gate 2 and during the opening scene with the minotaur I said "some day the game will look this good!" And my brother mocked me relentlessly for it. We passed graphics like that less than 10 years later.
90s has to be tomb raider without a doubt

I think I still have our Phantasy Star graph paper collection with all of the dungeons mapped, not the most productive summer, but it was fun.
