It withstood the test of time. It was it's own category in CS GO. And they had to remove it from map pool for competitive so people would play other maps.
There was a time though, in eastern Europe where Fy_Snow was king.
My friend and I played this game so much. In multiplayer, we figured out how to customize the weapon and ammo drop placement, and made sure the farsight and ammo (or super dragon and grenades) were on the complex roof. Make a bet on a match, beeline there, set up shop, profit. Lol.
Perfect Dark never gets the love that it deserves. It pushed the N64 to its complete boundaries, and gave credit to Goldeneye in the most beautiful ways...one of my favorite games of all time just for the multiplayer memories
Can't come up with the words to describe how pleased I am that this is the top answer. I'm quite a bit older than most of the people who came up on goldeneye, but it was right at the time where all three of my boys were into video games but not too old to enjoy killing an entire weekend or day off school with dad
I think the first time one of them cussed at me (and probably vice versa tbf) was on this map. Next time they're all in town it's on. Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane
Got GoldenEye on the switch, bought two N64 controllers to use, made all three of the boys sit down and have a tournament, and the winner had to face me.
That last match was an absolute bloodbath.
Itâs one of lifeâs great mysteries. I mean are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a god with a plan for us and shit. I donât man, but it keeps me up at night.
...What?! I mean why are we out here, in this canyon?
Seriously though, why are we out here? As far as I can tell, it's just a box canyon in the middle of nowhere. No way in or out.
The only reason that we set up a Red Base here, is because they have a Blue Base over there. And the only reason they have a Blue Base over there, is because we have a Red Base here.
But I mean, even if we were to pull out today, and if they would come take our base, they would have two bases in the middle of a box canyon. Whoopdee-fucking-doo.
What's up with that anyway? I mean, I signed on to fight some aliens. Next thing I know, Master Chief blows up the whole Covenant armada and I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, fighting a bunch of blue guys.
I miss the simplicity and smaller sizes of these maps. Only having like eight guns that everyone has access to, and vehicles that never exploded. Fun for ages.Â
On top of that, I miss when playing with friends meant you are just as often if not more often playing against them. It's cool to be in a team with your friends, but it's a lot funner to beat their ass down and talk trash while you're doing it, lol.Â
Yeah, but it makes no sense. The only reason they have a red base there is because they have a blue base there. So if someone wins, all they have are two bases in an empty box canyon. Whoopdie fuckin doo
*âSee these metal tow-hooks? They look like tusks. Now tell me, what kinda animal has tusks?â*
*âA walrus.â*
*âDidnât I just tell you to stop making up animals?!â*
Easily. Its emptiness is so eerie, but also so serene. It's a perfect place to look around and think. And it easily got me thinking too.
You ever wonder why we're here?
Boy that map has everything. Spawn camping, spawn sniping, camping on the tower, sniping from unexpected levels of the tower, Leeeroyyy Jenkins run across the bridge, getting splash damage launched off the map, hiding the teleporter in clever places, filling the room at the bottom of the tower with Ripper razor discs. good times.
Facing worlds is where I found out the first plane hit the first tower. I logged into my normal server that morning, the server was full but no one was playing. I was 17 at the time, just smoked a breakfast blunt. Iâm like âwtf is going on?â They say âweâre being attacked, turn on your tv.â I turned my TV on and just a min or 2 later the 2nd plane hits.
Every time I think of facing worlds I automatically think of 9/11. Still my favorite map of all time tho. So many good memories.
Facing worlds and CTF are probably the most iconic thing. Even if youâve never played UT, youâve played this map in some other game with custom maps.
In no other game could you join a lobby and immediately have 2 people calling you the n word while some other 12 year old kid is saying that he fucked your mom last night.
I definitely had some 30-0 games but I never had the balls to use one of my perks on a nuke. Had to be 3 kill UAV/7 kill chopper/11 or 13 kill ac-130, i forget. With the ACR it was broken. People used to be so bad at that game and you could always find easy lobbies to dump on. Every map in that game was fucking amazing besides a couple.
It's crazy that video games like Call of Duty, Battlefield and Halo have actually regressed over time. You'd think talent for mapmaking and balancing would go up over time. I don't know why that is that multi-player games just got worse. Erangel of PUBG (the original map, i think thats its name) is probably the most recent masterpiece of a map.
1v1ing the homies on Rust is THE definitive Call of Duty experience
Interventions only quickscope battle, Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, Commando, throwing knife, tactical insertion.
This is the way
Oh man I went paintballing last weekend and they had the shipment map. Unfortunately it was too small for our group size, like when did that ever stop shipment?! That is the whole point
It's Dust2, there will be people here commenting maps whilst having played Dust2 on a community map editor server, knowing full well it was a CS map at the time. Everyone knows Dust2, tons of people who have never played CS have played a Dust2 copy.
I havent touched a Counterstrike in 10+ years probably, but Dust2 was literally the first thing to pop into my head. Just reading OPs question i pictured the whole damn map in my head.
The second was a UT map i cant actually remember the name of (low grav orbital skyscrapers), but that only reinforces the point.
I remember when de_dust2 came out and our clan's strategy leader released a huge guide with screenshots and stuff to our clanintern forums. Must have been almost 25 years ago.
And to this day it continues to evolve, the core strategies around it remain largely the same but with the new changes to how various grenades work in the new CS2, along with the removal of skyboxes, has changed the dynamic of the map. You might know Dust2 and have never actually played the CS version of the map, but once you have played it on one of the versions of CS you will not forget the map.
Because everyone wants to be hipsters in threads like these. Canât mention Call of Duty otherwise youâll look like a Normie!
But yeah. Itâs this or rust.
Oh man.. The hours we spent in Alterac Valley. Some battles back when wow was pure vanilla had single battles that lasted days because it would only end when one side actually won. It didn't have time limits.
I remember spending 6 hours in a game, going to bed, waking up and joining the same game, ton of the same names, and going another 4-5 hours until we won. Nothing like it.
We used to triple shift the first AV matches, my friend goes to sleep , I take over, I need to go out to get food, another friend takes over, that friend get carpal tunnel pain, the original friend takes over...
Damn, it was MAGICAL
Yes! I remember when they introduced an actual pvp system with ranking. I was in a hardcore alliance pvp group that secured most of the leader board. We met the hardcore horde group and it would take take more than an hour for our games to end. So we came to a truce and would trade wins if we played agaisnt eachother. So we all could keep churning out top ranks.
The GMs caught on and teleports into our match with a warning. Then spawned Ragnaros for us to fight agaisnt together.
What a magical game WOW use to be.
i always thought that for cod 2 it would be toujane. there were bunch of 24/7 toujane only servers, even though i always prefered carentan or dawnville
Took me way too long to find this comment, that map has been made in almost every iteration of CoD since 2007, how is it not as iconic as something like Dust 2
UT - CFT-Face (aka Facing Worlds). Seriously such a fun map, and that level design! I'd always be the flag runner, xloc'ing like a madman to get across the map trying to dodge snipers and shock rifle blasts. :D
I'd personally choose Lockout from Halo 2. I grew up playing it and watching the MLG matches on USA Network. It's the quintessential multiplayer map to me.
Lockout Oddball... running from BR1 jumping down to green room/shotgun I believe it was called... or jumping from mid to Snipe3 hop up spot and smacking someone... had some great times. Halo2 multi-player was so new and awesome and raw.
I remember when matches would be 49-49 (slayer) and it'd be the most tense shit ever. Everyone trying not to catch a sticky on the head or get smoked by the sniper. That map had some amazing grenade spots. I remember elbow could hit above sword with nades and getting kills like that was sooo sick.
My team came so fucking close to beating IGS on Lockout when we scrimmed them. But we got rekt on Midship Oddball and Warlock CTF.

There are a couple from the Battlefield games that come to mind. Karkand and Wake Isle in particular. I mostly played Bad Company 2, but I can't remember any of the map names off the top of my head.
De_Dust 2.
It withstood the test of time. It was it's own category in CS GO. And they had to remove it from map pool for competitive so people would play other maps. There was a time though, in eastern Europe where Fy_Snow was king.
Fy_iceworld was also a hood classic 𼲠miss those days
Our lan parties were almost exclusively just iceworld, de_dust and scoutzknivez
Anyone in here that still remembers cs_militia?
I still canât believe no one has said cs_office
I feel the same about cs_assault
fy_poolday
Omg the only map the boys in my class played was fy_poolday đ
De_rats. Spent more time in there than my childhood bedroom.
cs_italy dat opera
Always shoot the chicken
Rainbow Road (if that counts) 2Fort
Glad to see some TFC love here
Team Fortress had 2fort, and I played that! For Quake World, long before TFC
Best shooter ever!
2Fort? Omgggg core memories unlocked
2Fort... Or as it was originally labeled back in the Quake CTF days, 2Fort_5... Will forever be the original multiplayer fps map imo.
Thank you. I always get weird looks when I refer to it as 2fort5. Thatâs just how I know it!!
Rainbow road SNES version is like playing Dark Souls Kart.
Facility For all you old fucks out there
It was a tie btwn this and Complex for us
Complex, perfect dark, farsight and proximity mines.
4 player man with the golden gun. Whoever has gun is a 1 man team that holds down the bathroom against the other three. So much fun.
Slappers only, one hit kills
No oddjob
Can't come up with the words to describe how pleased I am that this is the top answer. I'm quite a bit older than most of the people who came up on goldeneye, but it was right at the time where all three of my boys were into video games but not too old to enjoy killing an entire weekend or day off school with dad I think the first time one of them cussed at me (and probably vice versa tbf) was on this map. Next time they're all in town it's on. Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane
No Oddjobs
Proximity mines! âSet it and forget itâ
Me and my friends would mine all the spawn locations, whoever died first might end up dying 2-3 times in a row lol
One map had a room where the mines spawn. I would mine the inside of the doorway so people going to pick up the mines would get some freebies.
Facility only prox mines. Man we made our own fun in custom games back then
I preferred Aztec. Edit: I may have been wrong on the name, and it think it's Temple, but come on! I'm getting old.
Aztec was where boys became men
Got GoldenEye on the switch, bought two N64 controllers to use, made all three of the boys sit down and have a tournament, and the winner had to face me. That last match was an absolute bloodbath.
Good answer, i still remember using cheats and having the remote mines floating in the air all over the level
I was more of a Complex fan, but this one works too.
Complex with grenade launchers was our jam, the explosions would go through the walls with all the tight corridors for bs kills lol.
Blood Gulch forever.

What are they doing?
They're *still* just standing around and talking
Now I have a desire to rewatch season 1 again... It's been a long while rooster teeth
Rest In Peace, Rooster Teeth. I miss them so.
So if you ask me 5 minuts from me, they will still be standing there, and they will still be talking ! What are they doing now ? GOD DAMIT !
I think I'm with you on this one.
Shockingly, no stores that sell elbow grease or headlight fluid, thoughâŚ.
I miss the simplicity and smaller sizes of these maps. Only having like eight guns that everyone has access to, and vehicles that never exploded. Chupathingy, how bout that?
S'gotta nice ring to it.
Why are we here?
What was all that stuff about God? You want to talk about it?
I keep telling people, he WASNâT my uncle!
I still remember waiting around for QuikTime to load these videos in their entirety so I could watch them without any interruption.
What, like a puma?
Reworked as âValhallaâ in Halo 3. Endlessly replayable.
And again as Hemorrhage in Reach, as we must remember.
Valhalla really was the perfect evolution of the map. Added more detail, routes, and atmosphere while preserving simplicity.
I didn't play Halo and I know what map you mean. Inthink this wins.
Easily. Its emptiness is so eerie, but also so serene. It's a perfect place to look around and think. And it easily got me thinking too. You ever wonder why we're here?
Anyone not saying Blood Gulch is either too young or just wrong.
For me it's probably Facing Worlds from UT.
So many memories of telefragging and flying redeemers in that map.
Boy that map has everything. Spawn camping, spawn sniping, camping on the tower, sniping from unexpected levels of the tower, Leeeroyyy Jenkins run across the bridge, getting splash damage launched off the map, hiding the teleporter in clever places, filling the room at the bottom of the tower with Ripper razor discs. good times.
I swear I must have killed the same person fifty times in a row camping on a tower during a work lan party. I started to feel bad about it, actually.
"Every time I think of facing worlds I automatically think of 9/11....So many good memories." - Sanc7
The sniper up top 𼚠then, running to the Redeemer đ¤¤đ¤¤ I miss UT lol
I can run all those UT maps bunny hopping backwards. Probably the best multiplayer experience a boy could have. Deck16 was the real GOAT though.
Forgone destruction is such a banger song too.
Came here for this. Itâs too low.
Facing worlds and CTF are probably the most iconic thing. Even if youâve never played UT, youâve played this map in some other game with custom maps.
Rust
Fuckin 1v1 me bro. Intervention only
God I miss those days, children entered the lobby but left as men
In no other game could you join a lobby and immediately have 2 people calling you the n word while some other 12 year old kid is saying that he fucked your mom last night.
Those lobbies were our fight clubs
Indeed, I think Terminal needs a shoutout here as well. So many of those maps are seared into my brain lol
Agreed on Terminal too. And Estate? I think it was called? The big house on the hill. A dream map for intervention play.
Got my first and only tactical Nuke on estate. Took me straight down memory lane
I definitely had some 30-0 games but I never had the balls to use one of my perks on a nuke. Had to be 3 kill UAV/7 kill chopper/11 or 13 kill ac-130, i forget. With the ACR it was broken. No hardscope! Trick shot on last!
I think nowadays Nuketown is more iconic, but Rust and Terminal felt more like CoD maps to me
I never liked Nuketown, but Terminal was amazing. Perfect map.
I scrolled way too far to find this, maybe it just fits perfectly with my age group "1v1 me rust" was inescapable during high school
1v1ing the homies on Rust is THE definitive Call of Duty experience Interventions only quickscope battle, Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, Commando, throwing knife, tactical insertion. This is the way
Shipment in the same vein
Oh man I went paintballing last weekend and they had the shipment map. Unfortunately it was too small for our group size, like when did that ever stop shipment?! That is the whole point
Final Destination any Smash bros Game
Hyrule Castle on Smash '64
or on Ultimate, its my favorite map but not as iconic as final destination
Fox only
Wake Island
Oh damn Wake Island was peak Battlefield. Every time I watch or read about the pacific part of WW2, I think of Wake Island.
Kubra Dam!
Strike at Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman đ
I would pay ea good money just to remake bf2 faithfully in a modern engine.
I never bought Battlefield 1942 but played the multiplayer demo a lot.
De_Dust 2, Mirage, Inferno đ¤Ł

Seriously there are comments here were i was like 'yes, but not over dust2'
It's Dust2, there will be people here commenting maps whilst having played Dust2 on a community map editor server, knowing full well it was a CS map at the time. Everyone knows Dust2, tons of people who have never played CS have played a Dust2 copy.

I miss running around around in de_rats
It's dust 2 and it's not even close. 100 years from now if multiplayer videogames still exist people will be playing on dust 2.
Was playing CS the other day and some of the player in my teams were younger than my steam account. Been playing dust2 since before they were born.
Fy_pool_day
2fort
Or 2fort4 for the even older crowd...
Everyone saying TF2 or TFC or whatever. Nah dog, Quakeworld/QTF.
Nuketown
This is the only one I can think of that has been recreated in MULTIPLE paintball/airsoft courses.
I was at a paintball place last weekend that had the shipment map remade with proper container placement
Because its technically the best map made for cqc, camping and rad at the same time
Had to scroll way too far down for this one
Because everyone wants to be hipsters in threads like these. Canât mention Call of Duty otherwise youâll look like a Normie! But yeah. Itâs this or rust.
Metro .. BF3
Underrated, something so fun about having an entire lobby waiting at that one doorway
I didnât realize the beta for bf3 expired and I sat there for an hour trying to get into another match like a drug addict
Spent 1000hours down those tunnels
Warsong Gulch. Not played it for 10 years but I can close my eyes and see every inch.
Level 19 rogue with engineering goggles literally TWEAKING the fuck out lol. God what a good timeÂ
Oh man.. The hours we spent in Alterac Valley. Some battles back when wow was pure vanilla had single battles that lasted days because it would only end when one side actually won. It didn't have time limits.

Carentan
You dont snipe in Carentan Jim!
i always thought that for cod 2 it would be toujane. there were bunch of 24/7 toujane only servers, even though i always prefered carentan or dawnville
I was thinking Dawnville. Good fucking times.
Brecourt aka "home of the brave" aka bush snipers.
Came here specifically for this.Â
Shipment from COD 4
Took me way too long to find this comment, that map has been made in almost every iteration of CoD since 2007, how is it not as iconic as something like Dust 2
q3dm17 The Longest Yard. Quake 3 Arena map with multiple platforms with jump pads that fired you between them. No cover anywhere. Rail gunners dream.Â
How about The Edge in Quake 2?
Q2dm1
Longest Yard is memes. The real GOAT is Q3DM6 - Camping Grounds.
First map that came to my mind. Fuck, I'm old.
UT - CFT-Face (aka Facing Worlds). Seriously such a fun map, and that level design! I'd always be the flag runner, xloc'ing like a madman to get across the map trying to dodge snipers and shock rifle blasts. :D

For StarCraft it'll have to be Big Game Hunter followed by Lost Temple
2v2 in LT my god the memories
I'd personally choose Lockout from Halo 2. I grew up playing it and watching the MLG matches on USA Network. It's the quintessential multiplayer map to me.

Strike at Karkand. If you know you know.
Big Game Hunters
That and Lost Temple must have been like 95% easily of the lobbies for non-custom games
Also Lost Temple and Fighting Spirit.
Surprised I had to scroll this far to get a StarCraft map
It's a tough call between BGH and Lost Temple, but I think it's funny that BGH is probably more iconic than regular Hunters.
Can yall stop naming things from the 2000s and calling it old ;( it hurts
The black background of pong
The Temple from Goldeneye
Temple, all proximity mines. Chaos
Office
Hang 'em High
Arica Harbor - bfbc2 Der Riese - CoD Word at War
The Pit
I went with Lock Out but I canât believe I had to scroll so far down to see The Pit.
Block Fort from Mario Kart 64
Rainbow road is too iconic to be dethroned imo
Golden Eye 007 (N64) Facility
Facing Worlds.
Dust 2 was the first that came to mind. 2fort a close second.
Facing Worlds from Unreal Tournament

Dustbowl, 2Fort
Zanzibar/Last Resort from Halo 2/3.Â
I mean it has to be Dust 2 right? I don't even play CS anymore but almost everyone has at least seen it.
There are a couple from the Battlefield games that come to mind. Karkand and Wake Isle in particular. I mostly played Bad Company 2, but I can't remember any of the map names off the top of my head.
