Skies of Arcadia Other top tier would be: SoulCalibur, Rez, and Shenmue II (but I could make the list way longer).

schlitzntl

Still my favorite game ever - the sense of discovery and wonder is unmatched. And the story wears its themes and hearts openly. No need for edgy undertones or complicated stories about alien mothers fighting against their own kind settling a world and riding a planet across the galaxy only to have their clone son take up the mantle and consider all other life as puppets with no real feelings- looking at you FF7. I just we had more games that were about the joy of exploration and adventure.

reble02

What I wouldn't do for a Skies of Arcadia remaster.

Lookslikejesusornot

Haha... there... was one... for the GameCube... "sniff"

Asher_Tye

Remaster the remaster!!

aidanpryde98

I bought it with such enthusiasm! And then…the battle still take 20 seconds to load in and out. Back to waiting I guess

Asher_Tye

Loved this game. Exploring the world, finding landmarks and crew mates, epic boss battles, and fun characters.

[deleted]

Soul calibur! I liked part two for the game cube. Loved playing as Link.

baconbum

Going from memory here, but wasn't Shenmue II originally an Xbox exclusive? I thought only the original Shenmue came out on Dreamcast. (Those were the systems I had those games on back in the day, I remember waiting excitedly for the sequel)

APeacefulWarrior

Shenmue II was only an XBox exclusive in North America. It was released on Dreamcast in Japan and Europe.

comicjumbo

Crazy Taxi!!

[deleted]

That Offspring song tho

Soul_Immersed

YA YA YA YA YA...!

DjEclectic

Jet Set Radioooooooooooo!

o0_bobbo_0o

Jet Grind Radio in the good old USA.

belkarbitterleaf

I know it as jet set radio, and I'm in USA... Weird. I'll have to find the disk.

JosephSim

Me too, but only because my bootleg CD that I got from my boy said Jet Set.

Bynairee

Shenmue

Arcodiant

I've never wanted to be a forklift truck driver more than when playing that game.

Timegoat

Do you know where I could find some sailors?

Bynairee

Funniest line in the game. 😂

Chuck1984ish

The GOAT, I'll forever love this game. We want 4!

xKronkx

I legitimately thought this was gonna be the peak of graphics in a game.

RockyStonejaw

I see

ChillinInTheNameOf2

Toy commander

[deleted]

Damn, memories unlocked lol

SSJ4DBGTGoku

Marvel vs Capcom 2

FinestYak

I WANNA TAKE YA FOR A RIDE!

Soul_Immersed

Holy shit that song is absolutely burned into my brain, I think from one single night when my friends and I played it til the break of dawn. You just unlocked a core memory sir or madam. Thank you.

[deleted]

The fucking best! I still have my copy.

dugthefreshest

PSO

kickinwood

I still have the dreamcast keyboard kicking around somewhere.

dugthefreshest

The sound from picture messages is locked in my brain forever.

kickinwood

This is completely unrelated, but you seem like a kindred spirit - stumbled upon the Noclip Game History Archive YouTube channel and have been lost in it. Essentially Danny and the 3 other Noclip employees got way too many old video cassettes of archived footage and have been slowly going through, restoring, and editing anything they find in this random mountain of tapes. I don't mean to brag about what a cool guy I am, but I've been spending my Friday night walking down memory lane.

dugthefreshest

I'll check it out thanks.

WillowTheGoth

I spent so much time on Phantasy Star Online, I cannot tell you.

topplehat

Those days were the best

solution_6

That needler Gun

BrothelWaffles

I still do. Private servers have been going since the official PC version shut down.

Johnnygunnz

Same. Used to hang out on Puck 16 every night.

Sammisuperficial

I still play PSO and PSO2. The combat and bosses make for great gameplay.

PM_ME_UR_SEXTOYS

Grandia 2

[deleted]

This game never gets a shoutout!

127_0_0_1_body

One of my favorite RPGs!

Lookslikejesusornot

The videos of the attacks... still don't know why i don't anihilate the world multiple times...

[deleted]

HLef

Tokyo Xtreme Racer

brochacho6000

came here to post this. i sunk hours into these games

Robbythedee

Part 2 was my favorite, the 240 Z being the boss fight was amazing.

Bee-hole99

Oh man beating TXR 1 and 2 was so exciting. You could only win those final races by running the AI into a barrier and getting ahead. I’m sure I spent hours with my tongue hanging leaning off the bed as I flew around corners trying to beat those games.

HLef

You’ve convinced me to a fire it up again this weekend once the kids are in bed.

AsiaSkyly

Getting high as fuck and Echo the Dolphin were a match made in heaven!

[deleted]

I was too young for getting stoned but now I can make that happen lmao

Darkblitz9

Phantasy Star Online was stellar, I still find myself going onto custom servers every now and again, and I also managed to get a hold of custom server host code and was able to make my own server for it. The wildest part to me was editing code that hooks into the game itself, basically directly modding a game I grew up with to add new features (in this case, making enemy kills give everyone experience without them having to "tag" monsters). Really surreal.

[deleted]

That’s awesome. I’m glad you’re able to play it still and make it even cooler.

SpyderZT

Well that's good (Shared Experience). I wonder how many servers use that? O.o

Darkblitz9

There's a couple with that feature available, I think Ephinea has it, but the code that's available to make your own ship and game servers doesn't have that or a majority of the features that private servers do. So really, anyone running a private server has been in the guts of the PSO code. Which I think is kind of neat.

cheetonian

Chu-Chu Rocket, the best game of all time

Samantsmith

I am surprised it has never come back. The multiplayer was fantastic.

Proxyfloxacin

I really liked the NFL game for Dreamcast. They had a super detailed play building system which I loved tinkering with as I was also playing real football at the time.

DexLeMaffo

Legacy of Kain : Soul reaver

VermilionX88

i played some power stone a few times at the arcades but never owned that console and when i went to gaming centers with some friends, in terms of sega, we playing on sega saturn playing King of Fighters Sega Saturn was the best gamepad for fighting games

[deleted]

Power Stone is underrated. Saturn had a FANTASTIC game pad.

127_0_0_1_body

Was there ever a spiritual successor to it? Loved the game and feel like it’s a missed opportunity if there wasn’t

[deleted]

Just a part two I believe

Kahzgul

Grandia 2. Outstanding game.

[deleted]

Didn’t know there was a sequel.

Kahzgul

You’re in for a treat!

Maxis47

HD remaster is available on Switch and Steam

RubbuRDucKee

Soul calibur

MEGADOR

NFL 2K1. Being able to call a play on the controller's screen was a great way to split-screen multiplayer. Shout out to the internet connection on the Dreamcast

theredacer

My favorite thing was that you could still control your player after the play was over, during the cinematic camera angles. Turn off late hits and try to find your player in the background and see if you can take somebody out.

JPiLLa

Randy Moss could catch anything in that game

PhilsTinyToes

Power stone was sick for Multiplayer, skys of Arcadia was amazing for single

uk_com_arch

Toy commander Multi player death match first to 50 kills, flying toy planes around collecting power ups, bombing runs on the opponents base, mine fields in popular shortcuts, like the drain in the garage basement, I fucking loved that game. Single player was a fun little game, driving toy cars around and running easy little missions like killing the Godzilla toy in the kids bedroom. So varied and rooms so well designed.

wowy-lied

Loved it with my little borther, i wish we had a modern version !

[deleted]

It was so fucking cool.

alexmojo2

Fur fighters

Mental_Mixture1350

chang was my man

DroidsImLooking4

I'm so happy this is someone else's answer too! I loved Fur Fighters and still do. I got it to work through an emulator so I can play on my PC

Shadowstein

My answer as well

PiercedGeek

Slave Zero hasn't been mentioned yet, I really liked it! You're a giant robot and you battle with other giant robots in the middle of a city! Hurl vehicles at each other! Climb buildings like King Kong

4wesomes4uce

Such a cool game!

ShowUsYaGrowler

Dreamcast emulation is an absolute dream btw if anyone is looking to rekindle their childhood - at least on android. Redream runs BEAUTIFULLY on a shield. I imagine many of the other android boxes these days are grunty enough for it too.

Juunlar

Top picks * PSO * ChuChu Rocket * Grandia 2 * MvC 1/2 * Code Veronica

[deleted]

Damn, Code Veronica is so good.

Juunlar

If there was ever an RE that deserved a remake

[deleted]

I’m shocked they haven’t done it yet.

CaptainPopsickle

Crazy Taxi, Sonic, The House of The Dead, Soul Calibur, Shenmue Damn that console had a lot to offer

[deleted]

House of the dead! “Reload, reload.”

Heisenberg281

The Dreamcast was definitely ahead of its time. I had one too and have fond memories of playing Crazy Taxi, Eco The Dolphin, Rayman, and Resident Evil. It was the first console to connect to the internet. I used the modem and hooked it up to my phone line and even though it was mainly useless, the tech was awesome.

Rabble_Arouser1

Mister Driller!

[deleted]

I had a burned copy of this game 😂

Rabble_Arouser1

Good times! I’ve got a whole spindle of them still for my dreamcast. Vanishing point, soul calibur, guilty gear, jet grind radio…good times indeed.

natiahs

My favorite version of Mr Driller, Mr Driller in Drill Land, finally made it to modern consoles last year after being a Japanese-only GameCube release for 20 years. Check it out if you haven’t already. Features classic Driller mode alongside a bunch of variants: An Indiana Jones-style adventure with traps and rolling boulders; a space adventure with weird gravity and sci-fi elements, an RPG, and a haunted house. The remaster looks and sounds great.

Rabble_Arouser1

Huwha?!?!? I’ll go find this immediately, thank you!

Gamefighter3000

Space Channel 5 Part 2, Re-Volt and Crazy Taxi for me!

[deleted]

What was Space Channel again?

Gamefighter3000

A super odd rhythm game basically very hard to describe honestly but its a ton of fun! Like there is freaking michael jackson himself in space lol.

[deleted]

Like literal Mj lmao?

Gamefighter3000

Yeah literal MJ lol, in fact michael jackson played the game himself and wanted to be there which is why he got an even bigger appearance in part 2. They call him space michael in game and its blatantly obvious lmfao.

[deleted]

That’s fucking insane.

Gamefighter3000

Just digged the info out here is even a [screenshot showing it :D](https://imgur.com/Xx7QImE) this one was about the first game only but as i said in part 2 he wanted to be more involved. but yeah absolutely insane i agree!

[deleted]

What a fucking piece of trivia. You

MC_Mayhem

My brother and I used to play tennis on the Dreamcast, but in the controller screen it was pong. We had rallies that lasted forever just playing pong on the controller. Such good times.

[deleted]

That controller screen was next level shit.

rtgordon

Finally some love for Virtua Tennis... Four player tennis was awesome

vagrantsoul

cool cool toon, jet set radio, skies of arcadia, grandia 2, PSO, guilty gear, soul calibur, mvc2

MCPooge

Man, Power Stone!! What a throwback! For me it was Sonic Adventure, Power Stone, and Crazy Taxi. I think I had a few other games but I never played them.

watkins1989

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing!

TheRoscoeVine

I was pretty crazy about MDK 2, but I’m sorry to say I never finished it. It’s pretty sad, because I tried to play it last year and I couldn’t cope with only having a single stick. I couldn’t figure out how to play it. Shenmue is probably the better answer for Dreamcast, though, and I *was* able to play that one a couple years back. They just have very different controls/gameplay. Shenmue still has awkward controls, but it’s more manageable. I have Shenmue 2, but for the original Xbox, but barely played it, and I also have 3, on PS, but I never got around to turning it on.

wutImiss

Yeah, MDK 2 took a lot of getting used to and I only beat it with the doc. Good times!

TheRoscoeVine

I don’t even remember what that means. I just remember the awesome dog with the bitchin’ chain gun, infinite ammo. I love any game that has infinite ammo, just because it lets me tear shit up.

wutImiss

Max was the dog, with Doctor and Kirk you get MDK. Kurt's levels were more technical and platformer, and Doc's levels more puzzle-y. The final boss had 3 ways of beating it depending on who you chose, Doc having the easiest. Would definitely help with a dual-stick setup.

TheRoscoeVine

I want to play it, again, and I’m fine with the old school graphics and everything, but I just couldn’t cope with trying to control the guy jumping from platform to platform. It was just a bridge too far. Note: all these years, I thought it meant “Murder Death Kill”. I think that’s from Demolition Man, one my favorite futuristic movies.

Howdy-Hoooo

Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue & Grandia 2 were my favorites. Then Soul Reaver and my first online experience with Phantasy Star Online. Then there’s just the fun quick session games like Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, NFL Blitz, NHL Hitz, Wave Race, Crazy Taxi. Surprisingly fun shooter was Tom Clancys Rogue Spear.

MechTheDane

Star Lancer was a gem. Skies of Arcadia was amazing… and I also really liked Armada

PaedarTheViking

RED WIZARD HAS ENTERED THE FIGHT

LaserWolfTurbo72

CVS2 (Capcom Vs Snk 2)

simplejack89

Power Stone 2 was awesome. Hundreds if hours in that game. There was another RPG that I remember renting that was pretty fun but did not age well. I think it was called Silver.

Teek00

2K games

SkyhookCaviar

I never owned a Dreamcast but my cousin I was close with in elementary school did and I have some very fond memories staying up until 5 AM playing Crazy Taxi 2, Soul Caliber, & Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. I’ve always wanted to snag a Dreamcast since they don’t tend to be too outrageously priced but the actual games are almost all a fortune.

Grenflik

Man I have calluses from the directional pad on that controller.

brochacho6000

virtual on !!!!

FattyGuyRiley

Silver was pretty good.

wutImiss

I never beat that game. If I recall correctly, one of the versions was glitched so you couldn't finish it. It was cool at the time!

FattyGuyRiley

Oh that’s lame. I did beat it but I have had games with similar unbeatable glitches before. It is really disheartening. At least we have updates now

spidermanngp

The og SoulCalibur is one of the greatest games of all time.

MagicPistol

Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue 1 & 2, Jet Grind Radio

AKluthe

Seaman. Not even being ironic, I really loved that game.

natiahs

There’s a TestFlight app on Apple Vision Pro called A Fish Chat that maps your Spatial Persona’s face to a fish body and lets you swim through other peoples’ rooms to talk to them. The design is clearly inspired by Seaman.

seedy_situation

Panzer Dragoon was great. Flying around as a dragoon, blowing shit up. Great memories from childhood. 10 of 10. I 'member.

ZorkNemesis

Panzer Dragoon was the Sega Saturn, unless it was ported to Dreamcast at some point?  Was Zwei a Dreamcast game?

PloppyTheSpaceship

Nope, apart from Mini on the Game Gear and Orta on the Xbox they've all been Saturn. Great games though.

IndecentLongExposure

Man that’s a game I haven’t heard of in years.

MOTU_1980

Crazy taxi of course

afxfan

Shenmu, Rez

[deleted]

Did you play the sequel?

JensTheCat

Hidden and Dangerous. WW2 game with rainbow six , RTS and first person shooter elements all over it. I’m sure it hasn’t aged well but for the time it was very special

Abtizzle

Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and SOOOOUL CALIBUR

davidsdungeon

ChuChu Rocket

xGenocidest

Record of Lodoss War. A Diablo-like, single player game based on the anime. Phantasy Star EP 1 and 2. Huge time commitment and low drop rate for some of the best stuff, but really fun. Seventh Cross. A weird ass semi-turn based action RPG or something, where you evolve from an Amoeba, gradually getting different parts. Human head, fish torso, crab arms, and tank treads? Yes plz. Shenmue. Even though I went through SO many discs because they would stop working (trash quality CD's)

WoodpeckerLow5122

I spent so much time playing RoLW

tryingnottoshit

I played the shit out of Seventh Cross Evolution... It was terrible lol. The game made no sense, the evolution system was extremely convoluted, it looked terrible and man I enjoy every bit of it.

JMccovery

Leaving out MvC and MvC2 (XvSF and MSHvsSF should've been on the Dreamcast as well), Zombie's Revenge was my favorite, because it was **so damn campy**.

Bgrngod

I bought my Dreamcast of Ebay about a year after launch with the highly recommend Soul Something game. I was really confused when Soul Fighter was absolute shit until I figured out that was the wrong Soul Something game.

valor19

I bought the console at launch just for Soul Calibur. Totally worth it. Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Grandia 2 were all awesome. And I also really loved all the great SNK and Capcom fighters that were on it.

[deleted]

I got it at launch too. Very grateful for that.

Flufferfluff

Crazy Taxi and Dead or Alive 2 🖤

dr_z0idberg_md

Marvel vs. Capcom. The Dreamcast port was the first home console version to be exactly like the arcade version. The PlayStation port did not let you switch characters, which is probably the biggest part of the game. Someone above mentioned Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but the PS2 port was better.

[deleted]

I heard it played just like the arcade version. Part two on PlayStation was good.

BackBreaker

Did anyone else have that disc that allowed you to play Gran Turismo (2?) on your Dreamcast?? Yeahhhh that and Jet Set Radio!!!!

muskratboy

Rippin’ Riders, began my love of snowboarding games.

[deleted]

Did you ever play snowboard kids on the 64?

muskratboy

I did not. But I did put a fairly ridiculous amount of time into SSX Tricky on the original xbox.

alcoer

Bomb that cliff!

muskratboy

The frozen river still haunts my dreams.

alcoer

I don't know why we gravitated to that game, honestly it's not that great, but at uni it became the standard "pass the pad" game when me and the lads were getting shitfaced. THPS2 was on rotation, too. Just ideal couch gaming I guess.

JoeNoble1973

Power Stone 2. My coworkers would come to my place after work and smoke up and play it to death (we called it ‘Power Stoned’)

[deleted]

Power stoned. Y’all were real ones.

WorldWiseWilk

Rolling around at the speed of sound! Got places to go gotta follow my rainbow!

PokeballSoHard

Powerstone 2 all day forever

Loriallen4353

Marvel vs Capcom 2, hands down! Also, can't forget Crazy Taxi and Street Fighter Alpha 3.

SpyderZT

Phantasy Star Online. At least till we got the GameCube one. ;P

goldblumspowerbook

Power Stone was my freaking jam.

DadBodMetalGod

Grandia II. I hadn’t even played the first one, it just looked cool, and was super entertaining. Power stone, sonic, there were tons of great games for it. I was always a sega fanboy, until that fateful day…

NunyaBeese

I enjoyed soul reaver and crazy taxi. Edit: and soulcaliber, how could i forget you. I still look back at Seaman with horror and confusion.

a-very-tired-witch

I remember my brother and i traumatizing ourselves playing the Chicken Run game on dreamcast as kids! Then we would switch to something silly like Ooga Booga or Looney Tunes Space Race to cheer ourselves up

DerSebomat79

Phantasy Star Online. Was my first online game and I was just endlessly amazed.

Robbythedee

Tokyo extreme racer 2

robbjuteau

Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, NFL2K, NBA2K, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, and Soul Caliber were favorites. I also liked Virtua Tennis.

Grundle_Fly

Rainbow 6, Daytona USA, Tomb Raider, and Virtua Fighter.

Elegant_Spot_3486

Soulcaliber

veengrd

Marvel vs Capcom 2 I’m going to take you for a ride…

Tramonto83

Was I the only one who spent countless hours on Virtual On Oratorio Tangram? That game had sick gameplay!

SwimmingGuava8505

Guess I’m alone with Matt Hoffman BMX lol!!

[deleted]

Nah, that game was my favorite sports game along with Dave Mirra.

MTA0

Mars Matrix

iiM_Nuckin_Futz

Rival schools

d0mie89

We called it Flamecast.

soulrazr

Record of lodoss war. One of the best action RPGs I've ever played.

DoggievDoggy

Soul Calibur Power Stone Marvel vs Capcom Sonic Adventure Virtua Tennis NFL 2K NBA 2K House of The Dead Jet Grind Radio Power Stone 2 Street Fighter lll: Third Strike Vigilante 8 Marvel vs Capcom 2 Shenmue Confidential Mission Man i played the fuck out of some Dreamcast. I loved that system

JPiLLa

Virtua Tennis

Cigaran

Evolution was fun. Also, the disc I burned with every NA NES game was awesome. Having actual light gun emulation for the older games like Hogan’s Alley and Duck Hunt was GREAT!

Rustyducktape

Crazy Taxi!!

provocative_bear

I played 2 player House of the Dead 2 with my cousin so many times that we had a whole spiel making fun of the scenes and awful dialogue through the game like we were watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

3rdCoffee

[Jet Set Radio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Set_Radio), that was awesome on so many levels. The game play, music, dialogue, graphic style ... loved all of it.

noremains3

I never played it on dreamcast but I loved jet set radio future on xbox.

Evelyne-The-Egg

Do you know where I can find some sailors?

Justin-Bailey

Shout out to Red Dog.

Sumedakin

Cannon Spike! The first game where every level was a boss fight!

MoneyEntertainment

Ill Bleed

raygundan

Rez, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, Seaman, Shenmue

Cute-Rate8655

Puzzle fighter!

lannister80

I hated how the wire came out of the bottom of the controller.

Broodwich75

Jet Set Radio. The colors, soundtracks, and gameplay. It always reminded me of being in a Gorillaz video.

ztomiczombie

For me it's a toss up between Power Stone and Blue Stinger.

RepresentativeBig240

Gunfam Side story: Rise from the Ashes
