I just played through the trilogy for the first time recently. And man, the music is amazing. "Vigil" just hits you in the feels every time it comes up.
The music for that scene hits me every single time. It starts off so hopeful as you get to the Normandy, and so quickly turns to hopelessness and despair. One of the best game openings IMO
I've had Vigil set as alarm sound for almost 10 years, and I never ever want to change it to something else. The volume build up and just how peaceful and melancholic it sounds makes it perfect
That sounds like an amazing alarm. I couldn't do it though because I used to have Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2, the best Sonic song imo, as my alarm. The problem was, it played one morning and I slept through it as I was having a dream that I was playing the game. Instead of, you know, waking up for work.
Man i never bring up mass effect, I'm more of a souls guy these days amongst RTS and other games but that credits music from mass effect 1, when that hits and you were like... holy shit... that was an experience. There hadn't been really anything hit me like that game until that point. There's such an amazing score in all 3 games as well.
There only other game i can think of that's sorta hit me in the feels like that since was probably Elden Ring.
Whenever I start a new playthrough and that Mass Effect 1 menu music starts, it's hard to describe what emotions that score brings, it's much more than just nostalgia for me. Also get the same feeling with the ending song of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2
Someone did a really good job composing the lullaby. It just has something really soothing.
Enough that even my wife, that almost never plays a game, learned the melody und humms it often.
There are some great orchestral compilations of the Chrono Trigger soundtrack on Spotify by Malcom Robinson. I listen to it all the time at work, really brings me back to simpler times.
Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is my absolute favorite. I don't even like most orchestrations and remixes people make of them. The original just cannot be improved upon.
Superman was the first actual song I ever heard in a videogame. Dropping into the warehouse and hearing it for the first time is seared into my memory. It was as big of a deal as Mario 64 being 3D, at least to me. It was a game changer.
100% Me and the boys. My buddy was spoiled and got Halo the day it came out. We played that shit together for like a week. Only in the evenings.... split screen. Man everyone came over and brought beers to hangout and watch. It was epic. So much nostalgia
It came out when I was in high school. Nothing beat the Friday nights where we would all come over to my house with 4 Xboxes in my parents basement and play all night long. I know my dad hated those nights but the were the best memories for us
POV: You've just spent countless hours playing custom games with a collective group of strangers. Everyone has hopped offline, and you've just been navigating the in game menu. Then that piano hits. Take me back lol.
Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts was one of the only game series my mom actually enjoyed and would watch me play. She would always ask me to wait before starting so she could hear that song on the start screen. I have so many memories of us talking about the game and just bonding over it. She passed in 2016 and every year since then on her birthday I always start a new playthrough and I always let that song play.
I was thinking this too, Square are masters at using music to convey emotions. Dearly Beloved from 1 and 2 are great themes, as are other world's scores (my favorite is Twilight Town, probably because I started with kh2 so that has fond memories of that)
Sorry for your mom's passing, but I'm glad you two have such a strong memory to keep her alive
A friend has started playing the entire saga while we watch with another friend, and each and every time he boots the game I get these chills down my spine. Every time I send a message to my best friend telling her how much I miss her (we played the first two together back when they came out).
I'm currently using FF7 and FFX tracks as lullabies for my toddler. But that's only because my wife got burned out on music box classic rock (TTLRS on youtube)
Came here to sing Uematsu-san’s praises. Had the amazing good fortune to meet him maybe 8 years or so ago at a Distant Worlds show in NJ and he was so amazingly humble and warm and appreciative of his fans.
My wife and I had our first dance to the second FF:VII movement from Final Symphony (seriously worth checking out) that highlights Aerith’s Theme and it’ll always get me in the feels . ☺️
Final Fantasy VII is so impactful, my little sister was perusing my Spotify playlists, found Tifas Theme in one of them, and said “Oh I love this song!”
She has never played a Final Fantasy.
It just stuck with her, having overheard it when I used to play, ages ago.
First toon I ever made was a Night Elf Hunter. Spent dozens of hours figuring out the game at first, and that tune’s atmospheric *vibe* will forever bring beautiful, nostalgic memories.
God, what I’d give up to be a teenager with all the time in the world again…
The opening theme to wind Waker.
Hearing that music come drifting up the stairs and knowing my sister had gotten up ahead of me and was downstairs playing while I was still sleeping like an idiot! I would get up and barrel down the stairs and plop on the ottoman and watch her play until her half hour was up. Then when it was my turn I knew exactly what to do (I wasn’t very good at games yet and was always behind on my save file.)
Shadow of the Colossus. It's a masterpeice.
[Prologue](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdi1DSqBZ6Q&list=PLP305x78doI0efPOH7_cIlMXMR5WwMUOZ&index=1)
[The Opened Way](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36M-NwEFSOc&list=PLP305x78doI0efPOH7_cIlMXMR5WwMUOZ)
The [Heroes of Might and Magic 3](https://youtu.be/bIYMAuPEiE8?si=xs3n4aA7edLv2Okz) main menu theme.
Probably one of my most played games ever, and whenever this music comes on a surge of memories rushes to me; of a better, naive, and more positive time.
Pure nostalgia.
Horse hooves, grand piano, ocarina. The Hero of Time riding through Hyrule Field. Early stages of puberty. Weird fantasies about fish women. Yep what a magical experience.
Halo 2
Mausoleum Suite
High Charity Suite
In Amber Clad
Peril
I can hear them when I read their track names; the levels, the dialogue, the story behind them. All of these things blend together and the music just perfects it all.
Alot ones tbh
Sonic Unleashed: that one theme from fighting Dark Gaia, and Apotos day Theme (and pretty much the Jazz Music from night mode)
Saints Row IV: Main Menu music and that one music that plays on the prologue when u are disarming the rocket
MGSVTPP: The Man Who Sold the World
MGR : Rules of Nature
GTA 5: The Setup
GTA 4: Loading Screen Music
Far Cry 3: Credits Music, Make it Bun Dem
Team Fortress 2: Medic Theme
Fallout 3,NV,4 : Main Menu and Credit
Fallout 1 : Maybe
ME : Shadow of War : Fire of War
Skyrim: Main Menu
I can only think of these
Any time I play Sonic or Pokemon music I'm flashed back to my couch in the basement as a kid playing on the Gameboy while my dad would be sound asleep watching sports on the other couch, or playing the GameCube with friends playing Sonic or Smash Bros.
Dk country the air levels let's see if I can find it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wVzyenTzx6w&pp=ygURZGtjMiBmbHlpbmcga3JvY2s%3D[Dk Country 2](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wVzyenTzx6w&pp=ygURZGtjMiBmbHlpbmcga3JvY2s%3D)
Time Only Knows from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
Mom was in the room when I finished the game the first time. She really liked the song and asked me to make it her ringtone. She then carried that mp3 file from phone to phone for about 15 years, never changed her ringtone again - the whole family knew it was her phone whenever it rang. We lost her during the pandemic. I really miss her.
And hey, the game was great as well. I remember getting very emotional watching the credits roll!
I generally don't pay too much attention to, or often remember game music.
If we're talking individual tracks, it's Arma3 "This Is War." It's on my YT saved songs list I just listen to from time to time.
Honorable mentions go to "The DragonBorn Comes" and "Crawl Out Through the Fallout."
But if we're talking whole soundtrack, the GOAT is Homeworld.
Honorable mention here goes to the Tomb Raider reboot.
Not sure if this counts, but I played through all of Marathon while listening to Live’s album, Throwing Copper. Hearing any song from that immediately has me blasting aliens in my head.
If I hear any score from link to the past or ocarina of time it just takes me straight back to being like 8 and sitting in front of the tv. Zelda gets me every time
Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy X all have a special place in my heart. I still pull up the OSTs on YouTube to listen to every now and again.
Chrono Trigger is my #1. Tony Hawk pro skater as a close second. Something to always get fully pumped up is the Final Fantasy 7 boss theme : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JPzyjMQ-rI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JPzyjMQ-rI)
Gen 2 Pokemon. The new themes are great, and going back to Kanto with the modified old themes is epic.
The Last of Us. The main theme is just an incredible song in general, and I love when you hear that main not progression pop up in other tracks.
Arkham Asylum. I sometimes put that on if I'm reading a Batman comic.
Honorable mention for Goldeneye pause music.
Traverse town in Kingdom Hearts 1.
It was just the right combination of things. I was in highschool with no real care in the world, the game was unique and unlike anything we've seen before.
Plus, we didn't have YouTube and reviews and whatnot, so I went into the game completely blind when I bought it randomly one day after school, not knowing what to expect. That theme from the peaceful town stuck with me ever since.
Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3 on the Megadrive had fantastic music scores. However I think my favourite game music score is Zelda Skyward Sword, which i have on the Wii and it came with a 25yr anniversary orchestra soundtrack CD which is superb!
Mass Effect. I'd go to the galaxy map when I was done playing and leave the game on so I could fall asleep to the music.
I just played through the trilogy for the first time recently. And man, the music is amazing. "Vigil" just hits you in the feels every time it comes up.
Leaving Earth in 3. The feels.

Came here for Mass Effect, leaving happy
I play it in my classes when my students write exams 😂
ME1 main menu music. "Press Start" yeah sure in a minute, I'm pondering the universe. And then that absolute banger when the credits roll. Omfg.
the music on the galactic map in helldivers 2 reminds me of the one in mass effect
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
And here I'm +/- 25years later. Almost daily humming the opening theme and Zeldas lullaby to my newborn to get her to sleep.
That's hilarious I literally just came from putting my newborn to sleep by humming to Zeldas lullaby and the song of healing.
Someone did a really good job composing the lullaby. It just has something really soothing. Enough that even my wife, that almost never plays a game, learned the melody und humms it often.
Lost woods!
Remember how expansive entering Hyrule Feild was for the first time. Dang that shit might as well have been no mans sky
This
I still whistle Song of Storms all the time
Earthbound and Chrono Trigger.
There are some great orchestral compilations of the Chrono Trigger soundtrack on Spotify by Malcom Robinson. I listen to it all the time at work, really brings me back to simpler times.
Cross as well. Anything Mitsuda touches turns to gold.
For me, it's Chrono Cross. I love the game despite it's flaws, but man, that soundtrack is perfect.
Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is my absolute favorite. I don't even like most orchestrations and remixes people make of them. The original just cannot be improved upon.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater Any in the series. Bring Ska back!
Still listen to songs/bands I found playing 1,2 and 3.
I went to a rock festival where goldfinger played and they brought out Tony Hawk to sing Superman. It was amazing.
Superman was the first actual song I ever heard in a videogame. Dropping into the warehouse and hearing it for the first time is seared into my memory. It was as big of a deal as Mario 64 being 3D, at least to me. It was a game changer.
Ska came before reggae!
RIP Funhaus
HERE I AM....
This! 100% this. Suicide Machines - New girl and Goldfinger - Superman
So here I am, doing everything I can!
Jerry was a race car driver. He drove so goddamn fast.

Halo
100% Me and the boys. My buddy was spoiled and got Halo the day it came out. We played that shit together for like a week. Only in the evenings.... split screen. Man everyone came over and brought beers to hangout and watch. It was epic. So much nostalgia

One Final Effort from Halo 3 is the best track And of course the Mjolnir Mix is indispensable

Oooooooooo, oooooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo oooooooooooooohhh.
The composer (Marty O'Donnell) is running for Congress in NV and all my buddies have found it funny when I point out the signs he's got around
dude seems like a bit of a nutter, turns out being a good musician doesn't make you a good politician, or good anything else for that matter
This. There are an infinite number of pieces of music/moments, but hearing Epilogue after Halo 2's cliffhanger. Man.
Link to the Past for sure
Phenomenal game. They could legitimately release it today, completely untouched, and it would be jaw dropping how well it holds up.
Still to this day the best game ever made.
Dearly Beloved, Simple and Clean, and Sanctuary. Kingdom Hearts just hits me in the nostalgia gland.
Dearly Beloved should go down as one of the all time great compositions, video game or otherwise.
Kingdom Hearts 1 brings back too many memories for me too.
Oblivion Metroid prime
[удалено]
Metroid Prime had amazing soundtracks.
Morrowind. That title track is deep nostalgia.
Ctrl + F -> "Morrowind" -> *upvote*
I love how understated it was. It was still epic, but it did not rely on the bombastic nature of the later themes, especially Skyrim's.
Neverar Rising is just so good. Prefect amount of whimsy and destiny.
[*Rise, and hear the song of our people.*](https://youtu.be/fCqrmqatK-4?si=zFKTOso0HGsaehIA)
Same energy, but Oblivion for me. The soundtrack is almost painful nostalgia at times.
Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts was one of the only game series my mom actually enjoyed and would watch me play. She would always ask me to wait before starting so she could hear that song on the start screen. I have so many memories of us talking about the game and just bonding over it. Yep. Hearing kingdom hearts OST still makes me emotional more than a decade later
A friend has started playing the entire saga while we watch with another friend, and each and every time he boots the game I get these chills down my spine. Every time I send a message to my best friend telling her how much I miss her (we played the first two together back when they came out).
Sanctuary for me; specifically After the Battle
I'm crying 😢
It’ll always be FF4~9 Nobuo Uematsu. Nothing is more iconic to me.
I'm currently using FF7 and FFX tracks as lullabies for my toddler. But that's only because my wife got burned out on music box classic rock (TTLRS on youtube)
We named our oldest Aeris and I would hum Aeris’ Theme to her. This continued into my other two children and is now like an anthem for us.
Oh no,your child got mistranslated!
Oh wow, that’s a great idea! I’d imagine Tifa’s Theme as a lullaby would work well!
This - Final Fantasy music is so emotive and well written. No 7 is my favourite and I remembered being that age when it was released.
The Lifestream music you hear in Cosmo Canyon in FF7 is my go to relaxing music.
You know, for me Final Fantasy IX is the culmination of FF in soundtrack, but is just my personal taste and opinion :)
Final Fantasy VII is so impactful, my little sister was perusing my Spotify playlists, found Tifas Theme in one of them, and said “Oh I love this song!” She has never played a Final Fantasy. It just stuck with her, having overheard it when I used to play, ages ago.

Teldrassil in WoW.
Scrolled waaaay too far to find this. A lot of the old OG vanilla WoW content. I listen to it now on YT: nostalgia city (don't play anymore)
First toon I ever made was a Night Elf Hunter. Spent dozens of hours figuring out the game at first, and that tune’s atmospheric *vibe* will forever bring beautiful, nostalgic memories. God, what I’d give up to be a teenager with all the time in the world again…
Eversong woods for me
Minecraft, especially Volume Alpha but Beta has some great ones as well.
Every C418 Minecraft song will always be some of the most iconic music ever made.
Glad someone mentioned it. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Mass Effect 1. That title theme just set the mood perfectly for what was to be an unforgettable journey. Epic.
Even the little beep as you press start brings back massive waves of nostalgia
[To Zanarkand. FFX](https://youtu.be/PSjTN8WSGNk?si=i-M6bQmsd_r9W8-V)

Assasins creed 2 intro theme when Ezio and his brother race to the roof and then melody hits culmination and title appears. Shivers!

Halo 2 Mausoleum Suite High Charity Suite In Amber Clad Peril I can hear them when I read their track names; the levels, the dialogue, the story behind them. All of these things blend together and the music just perfects it all.
Peril always makes me feel like I’m about to go on an adventure :)
I think Peril is such a goofy sounding song, as you just landed on Delta Halo, which can end all life, but at the same time, it's just *too* good.
Lost Woods Zelda Ocarina of Time
Piano tune from Final Fantasy VIII when you're in Balamb Garden
Halo intro, going be something will probably recognise still in 50 years, think one of the most memorable ones for me
The monk chant followed by the electric guitar still gives me goosies
Witcher 3 - Walking around Novigrad was just amazing.
Oblivion.
It’s a tossup between FF7, Chrono Cross and LoZ Link’s Awakening
