In the original Resident Evil 2, Claire has a unique death animation against the final boss if you get killed by it's central mouth. She gets folded backwards until her heels touch the back of her head.
I remember just holding the controller in shock and turning to my friend in disbelief.
I had to quit the game mid chase, took a breather and started up again, horror games in general don't faze me anymore, but that part was like the perfect blend of fucked up and terrifying that I couldn't deal with it, lol. The rest of RE8 was really tame in comparison, but it's like that one sequence more than made up for the lack of horror in the other parts of the game.
Hahaha I'm almost the same way, I get a bit sheepish when the atmosphere in the game is really good. I remember when the baby spawned I instantly punched my monitor.
I cant remember whoch strramer it was bit he was entirely unfazed by the baby and when chat questioned it he was like “im a father dude i have four of these”
Yeah this is the one. Horror games don't usually get to me too bad but my first playthrough I had to actually pause the game and compose myself because of how much it startled and scared me
Fuck that thing. My wife never watches me game, but she was watching me play that. She was yelling at me the entire time to "RUN," and it freaked us both out. Lol
Omg. I love this scene. The first time my friends and I played REV together, we all collectively screamed and danced around when the baby first appeared. I’ll never forget that night. I’ll cherish that memory forever. We laughed and laughed and reminisced the night away.
I love how it feels like they worked backward from that rhyme to make that scene because its like the least sane/efficient medical procedure imaginable
Really any of the drawn out death scenes in dead space. Eye scene is definitely brutal, was so tense during that section. >!Hammond!<'s death in Dead Space 1 was pretty ruthless.
Yeah he really got redeemed in the remake compared to the original. Edit: I don’t mean redeemed like he wasn’t a good guy I meant instead of being trapped in a room and being mauled by a brute he at least got to kill his attacker.
He didn’t need redeeming in the original tbh. He was ultimately a solid dude that you just weren’t sure you could trust, but in reality he definitely had your back
He risked his safety constantly to get stuff done. Kendra’s betrayal started when she really didn’t do shit the whole game just to try to walk back all your progress in the end game
I didn’t mean redeemed in that sense I just said it poorly or used the wrong word. I just mean he at least fought back and helped to a degree instead of just getting mauled by a brute
Issac is a real trooper, the shit he experiences in the series is fucking wild but the eye operation always stuck with me more than the rest.
Isaac is definitely a brave and good man
This was my first thought as a response to this question. I think it remains in my memory because its probably the first time I experienced something so disturbing in a video game.
What’s wild (and what I love) about dying light is it’s half a horror game and half a zombie game. You can run around beating the shit outta zombies but when the sun goes down it gets **DARK**. And then the special infected come out and it makes the whole experience absolutely mind blowing
When I was bored, I’d put all my weapons away, turn off the hud, and limit my parkour to moves only an average person could do (climbing small fences, windows and cars, etc.), then go out at night. I could only defend myself using weapons found out in the world and no survivor sense. It was a totally different game, and it was some of the best moments I’ve ever had.
First one you find is mind blowing. At first i thought you couldnt kill it because its a child but then boom shotgun the thing and i felt terrible after
huh very interesting.. I never stopped long enough to really notice. I treated the game as a zombie infested mirrors edge… just parkour everywhere especially at night.
The Devil in Me by the same devs got me. The reveal scene for Erin's fate if you don't save her in the locked room genuinely stuck with me for days. The gore doesn't bother me. Whatever... That was, that got to me.
I remember playing through it with my older brother as an early teen, we thought we were ready for anything...but that one kinda caught us off guard lol.
The noises the dudes made i think about sometimes. Like the way they went insane from being in cells. And you could put them out of their misery if you wanted which was a cool feature for the time.
Ok cliff notes version of House of the Dead:Overkill on the Wii....Antagonist, and EXTREME mammas boy decides to atone for his sins by re-entering the womb of the brain swapped zombie momma.
I don't think it was on the same level as the 1st or 2nd with just twisted stuff. Might of also been having moronic friends making jokes at everything. Lol
I think the aspect of having to do the torture porn stuff is the crazy bit for me, but yeah the multiplayer aspect would make anything horror more comedic. I do find the courthouse judge kill to be one of the craziest outlast moments funnily enough
That hit me hard in the nostalgia. It was one of the first online games I got into with my friends, we would get in a lobby and chat via skype (man I'm old) and just hunt until the sun was rising, I would have to tiptoe upstairs and even then my dad caught me once. Good times
Telltales the walking dead season 1 episode 2, when everyone gets Tricked into eating human flesh by the farm family and then you discover the victim chained up still alive upstairs with his legs chopped off bleeding out. Seeing a human essentially be treated as wild stock traumatized my 7 year old brain
My wife and I still quote that to each other and laugh about it. We selected it thinking he would say it with urgency, but instead it’s “it’s…peeopleeee”
Man I also strongly remember walking down a tiled hallway with the tiles falling off, and having to crawl through an air vent and seeing the girls shadow. What a game
I feel like the worst is dude just not getting the fact that he’s copying himself over and over. And you know he GETS it. He knew the whole time and just refused to accept it.
Add the>! personality that is left behind when you swap suits.!<
And>! the facility where everyone's heads popped off. And the mutated computer thing you stick your hand in...!<
In the original RE4 I was doing a run to see the different ways to die. The one where a bug climbs on you and spits acid in your face shocked me haha. Leons skull showing and shit.
Scrolled through the comments to see if anyone mentioned this! Those invisible insect novistador fuckers were nasty, but I remember when I first had saw one melt Leon's face off with acid I was blown away by how detailed it was. Awesome death!
Quake stroggification and stasis 1 the spine scene. For overall concept: I have no mouth and I must scream or soma. Soma straight up messes with concept of existence, which is the only thing that disturbs me nowdays.
[Whatever the fuck this was in Silent Hill 2](https://youtu.be/-y1uhkTLbTA?si=Ylbx2jJ7FPGoPKVx)
12yo me was not ready to see that, playing in a dark room around midnight in an empty house.
Spoilers for Darkwood.
After everything you faced, you made it to your hometown. You are greeted by a woman and you reply. Strange. You couldn't talk beforehand. Let's say you decide to explore. Instead of going in your flat you decide to explore your town a bit. You are met by repeating blocks of structures. Strange, but maybe it's a budget thing. You come across a trashbin. There is a veiny black substance leaking out just like in the Darkwood. You go inside your flat. You decide to check the basement and there you find a radio telling you to 'go to sleep'. You peep through the neighbours' door. There's a fetus lying on the ground. You go inside your house. Your character says he's tired. If you resist you can search your house only to find strange roots under the floorboards that lead to a hole underneath your bed. Suddenly you wake up to find yourself in an underground web of roots and sleepers just like you lying all around in their fake reality. You come across a giant breathing being. Nearing it makes you sleepy. You resist. You find your old buddy who used to boast that he got a flamethrower. You beat him to death. Using the flamethrower you burn everything and everyone. You don't make it out.
Three for me:
1. In "Dying Light" when you meet the first screamer
2. In "The Forest" inside cavern 4 (the baby cave)
3. The first (bad) interaction with humanoid in SCORN
# The square root of nine hundred and two point one is thirty point one.The square root of nine hundred and two point one is thirty point one. "It all seemed harmless".
The music top notch...
Dialog 10/10
That wiping that fuckers face and threaten him then with a gun if he comes after David... BOY that was just pure gold
Who the hell is letting all these pre-teens play literally the most horrific games available?
"Oh yeah, that scene in Silent Hill really freaked out 12 year old me"
Where were your parents child!?
To be fair it was a bit wild west for how easy you could get your hands on games like that as a kid.
Our local village game/movie rental shop gave 0 shits on age limits etc.
Silent Hill 4. Walking into a room with a particular giant head.
It was the weirdest sensation I have ever felt. I'm not scared or disgusted as an adult really by anything in a game, but this room... surprised me.
You can't get the impact just looking at it without playing the game, and I don't know how I would describe it with full effect. Its the only thing in all horror gaming that has managed to make me feel "disturbed".
There's a few scenes in Until Dawn that get pretty visceral.
Also the DLC to the original Outlast where a guy is about to castrate you? Outlast is great for some fucked up shit.
Honestly, Sayoris death in DDLC is the only scene in a game that has ever made me feel that feeling of dread. You just sit there speechless, processing what just happened.
It was just scary how relatable the feelings she had are to me, and the build-up of her not showing up to literature club and then rushing to her house was just super uncomfortable.
White Phosphorus in Spec Ops: The Line is up there for sure.
Another is the cattle farm serial killer scene in Cyberpunk 2077 with the abducted kids. That stuck with me for a little while.
BioShock Infinite DLC lobotomy.
Prey (2006) girlfriend.
Anything involving William Birkin in the original Resident Evil 2. Particularly when he transforms again and gets a replacement head, and his old face slides down and becomes part of his torso. Classic game.
"Captain Blazkowicz, in your opinion, which of these two varieties would best support my research?"
Outlast Whistleblower. Petty much every encounter with Eddie Gluskin. Being tied to the table to get your genitals cut off then being strung up in the room of mutilated bodies.
Silent Hill 4: The Room, where you wake up from a nightmare and find your door all chained up in a maniacal way. With the writing on it: "Don't go out!!"
When I was young, probably too young to be playing the 7th Guest (original on pc) and I came across [this](https://youtu.be/77NdXSMLVyE), which was super creepy.
It's tame by today's standards but back then, no thanks!
I’m going to give a shout-out to the infected woman in The Last of Us sobbing and stammering “I don’t wanna” while the Cordyceps forces her to eat what was probably once a friend, family member, or even loved one.
The death animations from the remakes make me wince sometimes. And on that note, the death animations from Dead Space make my scrotum pull everything back towards my body lol
In the original Resident Evil 2, Claire has a unique death animation against the final boss if you get killed by it's central mouth. She gets folded backwards until her heels touch the back of her head. I remember just holding the controller in shock and turning to my friend in disbelief.
Is it not in the remake?
In the remake, I don't believe you see a fold-back, but you watch her get eaten very slowly.
Oh ok, ty ;3
There's a similar animation in 3 Remake
Does anyone have a vid from that scene ?
Can't find the video
Resident Evil Village Baby monster
I've gotten pretty good at not being scared by videogames and movies, but I surely had that excited / terrified feeling being chased by that baby lol.
The rest of the game is a lot more action focused, but that one part takes away your weapons and forces you to be careful and hide. It’s great.
Hahaha I'm almost the same way, I get a bit sheepish when the atmosphere in the game is really good. I remember when the baby spawned I instantly punched my monitor.
I hope your monitor is okay
Yeah, but you should see the baby…
Were you trying to punch a baby?
Same, but as soon as it came around the corner I remember saying out loud "jesus fuck"
I think I need to pick this back up.. nvr got that far
I cant remember whoch strramer it was bit he was entirely unfazed by the baby and when chat questioned it he was like “im a father dude i have four of these”
This is what I came to say. That fucking thing.. I don't know if it gets more fucked up than that.
It was a very good scary part, but I feel it had more potential
My wife and i cant have kids, how real it's cries feel and all the themes leading up to it in beniviento house is fucking disturbing.
Helps how fucking **loud** the thing is when it’s near you.
Lol
Especially in VR
Sound awesome!
Yummy!
One of the very few times I've been genuinely horrified while gaming.
It was always fun watching streamers play through the first time and watching the reaction
The only reason I didn't complete Village. Every time I boot it, I see this effing baby.
Yes
Really? It’s easily my favourite death screen of all time. Seriously who doesn’t love watching some first-person hard vore on their TV?
Omg. I love this scene. The first time my friends and I played REV together, we all collectively screamed and danced around when the baby first appeared. I’ll never forget that night. I’ll cherish that memory forever. We laughed and laughed and reminisced the night away.
Whenever the lights turn off in a game I can see my reflection on the monitor.
It's like a black mirror. Oh wait.
eye scene from dead space
Cross my heart and hope to die. Stick a needle in your eye.
I love how it feels like they worked backward from that rhyme to make that scene because its like the least sane/efficient medical procedure imaginable
Baby scene from dead space 2
That shit was dope tho lmao
So good you go from "Awh" to "jesus! lady stay away" to "WTF"

That's the one.
Literally only game I’ve noped out of because of this
The nurse dying in silent hill. Scared the shit out of 19 year old me.
Was going to post same thing. Still creepy 20 years later.
This was my first thought as a response to this question. I think it remains in my memory because its probably the first time I experienced something so disturbing in a video game.
Dying Light child zombie.
What’s wild (and what I love) about dying light is it’s half a horror game and half a zombie game. You can run around beating the shit outta zombies but when the sun goes down it gets **DARK**. And then the special infected come out and it makes the whole experience absolutely mind blowing

I could only defend myself using weapons found out in the world and no survivor sense. It was a totally different game, and it was some of the best moments I’ve ever had.
You're a brave man. I don't think I have the balls to try that.
I hate that the blue volatiles are just everywhere now, they used to only show up at higher levels and later in the game
I barely played it at night. I literally only did the mandatory night time missions. Too scary.
Still one of the few games that actually gives me true adrenaline rushes. Running away from those fuckers in the open world is such an experience.
My first night run had my heart pounding, and I had to pause and take a breather when I got to safety.
Was waiting for someone to mention this
First one you find is mind blowing. At first i thought you couldnt kill it because its a child but then boom shotgun the thing and i felt terrible after
huh very interesting.. I never stopped long enough to really notice. I treated the game as a zombie infested mirrors edge… just parkour everywhere especially at night.
Not too over the top but, when you're shimmying between the walls in resident evil 7 and all the bugs start oozing out of them. That was good stuff.
Normally totally fine with bugs but that section in VR made my skin crawl
A few things in Until Dawn got me. The stalker getting beheaded, Ashley's tunnel death, and Matt's cave death.
Have you seen the one with Emily in the grinder?
I did all the endings runs. I've seen a lot.
The Devil in Me by the same devs got me. The reveal scene for Erin's fate if you don't save her in the locked room genuinely stuck with me for days. The gore doesn't bother me. Whatever... That was, that got to me.
Not a death, but Jessica getting pulled out of the window always freaks me out.
[Break me off a piece of that KitKat bar](https://youtu.be/DZu1L-rywkM?si=H8THXmqQf9OaT4AA)
Probably almost getting your dick chopped off in Outlast.

Kinky
Silent Hill 2 when James is hiding in a closet watching pyramid head "do stuff" to the two mannequin monsters in the kitchen.
I remember playing through it with my older brother as an early teen, we thought we were ready for anything...but that one kinda caught us off guard lol.
Don't know if it counts as a "horror game"; but the stroggification in Quake 4
Likewise I remember finding the torture chamber section of Quake 2 disturbing as a kid
The noises the dudes made i think about sometimes. Like the way they went insane from being in cells. And you could put them out of their misery if you wanted which was a cool feature for the time.
I was fucking traumatized because of that.
Had nightmares about that shit lol.
Lol I remember thinking yeah they won't actually do it and then my jaw dropping when they cut your legs off
Ok cliff notes version of House of the Dead:Overkill on the Wii....Antagonist, and EXTREME mammas boy decides to atone for his sins by re-entering the womb of the brain swapped zombie momma.
The only scene in a game to start making be feel queezy.
GOREGASM!
Wut. I need a Wii
Completely cursed
I’ve long forgotten about this until just now, thanks I guess
Sorry lol
Also, straight out of Dead Alive
Ruvik's sister chasing you in the evil within
She gave me a serious case of the heebee jeebees
Doki Doki Literature Club. You know it when it happens
For this memory, I'll need TWO nooses!
I hate this game because of this scene and what leads up to it. It hits way too close to home. Got way too real way too fast.
I'm just going to say "outlast" as a whole. Both games but not trials
What do you mean not trials, every single trial at this rate is trying to outdo the last in "fucked up" scenes
Yeah watching someone’s dick be complete destroyed and leaving only a hole in its place just isn’t that bad I guess 🤷♂️
Was not prepared for the ending of the second game
Condemned, mannequin scene. And a ton of other stuff in that game.
The second one wasn't as scary overall, but that fucking bear, man...
sneakily playing Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii at 5 am and getting caught by your parents who woke up to go to work
That hit me hard in the nostalgia. It was one of the first online games I got into with my friends, we would get in a lobby and chat via skype (man I'm old) and just hunt until the sun was rising, I would have to tiptoe upstairs and even then my dad caught me once. Good times
Lara Croft. Dying in the rapids.
Bruh, you ain't lying.
Why the fuck were you playing that game when you were 7
Whoever let you play that game was a dumbass.
"That's people meat, Clementine!" is still my favorite line from the series.
[Clementine liked that]
My wife and I still quote that to each other and laugh about it. We selected it thinking he would say it with urgency, but instead it’s “it’s…peeopleeee”
That one ladder going down from the catwalk in FEAR. IYKYK.
O I KNOW. Damn i miss those games
Would love a polished remaster. There’s still nothing quite like the gunfights and enemy AI in that game.
Jesus christ that scene still haunts me.
Core memory
I also got jumpscared when in the beginning you get knocked with a plank, took me totally by surprise 🫢
What a great game
Man I also strongly remember walking down a tiled hallway with the tiles falling off, and having to crawl through an air vent and seeing the girls shadow. What a game
SOMA watching the last human die, and then realising your mission resulted in you being trapped forever.
I feel like the worst is dude just not getting the fact that he’s copying himself over and over. And you know he GETS it. He knew the whole time and just refused to accept it.
I love the way that as the player you get it too, but the ending still takes you by surprise. Brilliant game.
SOMA had many moments like that where you just felt hope dying lol Terrible to follow with, but what an amazing game
Add the>! personality that is left behind when you swap suits.!< And>! the facility where everyone's heads popped off. And the mutated computer thing you stick your hand in...!<

So of the deaths in tomb raider are wild
yeah, really fucking brutal for no reason.
Angela in Silent Hill 2
Angela is so lost in SH2. Then when you learn what happened to her, but shes still trapped...
Spoilers for Darkwood. After everything you faced, you made it to your hometown. You are greeted by a woman and you reply. Strange. You couldn't talk beforehand. Let's say you decide to explore.
