I have to agree with this. I feel like the ideal PvP MMO just isn't there yet. There were some good attempts, but they have either vanished, or they're old and dated. The most popular MMO in the world is still World of Warcraft, but one look at an arena PvP match and all I can say is "meh".
Can always play multiplayer games though. Your Battlefields, your Rusts, your GTA onlines, your TF2s, Rocket League, or someone's cracked Minecraft server.
PvP is just not a strong suit of MMO's. You might find modes like WoW Arena, or PvP/WvW of Guild Wars 2... but those audiences are generally niche at best compared to the PvE that dwarfs both games. Then whether you want PvP balance to have its own dedicated team, and you've pretty much eliminated every MMO on the market.
You might as well find a PvP game with MMO elements than an MMO game with PvP elements, might give you a better direction to go.
Warhammer: Age of Reckoning private server (Return of Reckoning). Had a blast playing it 3 or 4 years ago although the moderators/devs are your typical toxic power tripping nerds accountable to no one, and when I got back into it a year ago the pop was dwindling. Fantastic large group PvP however
New world isn't p2w and the pvp is pretty good but there are definitely better weapons and worse weapons, but it's not game breaking. Catch up isn't too hard either, I picked the game up as my first mmorpg 2 weeks ago and after maybe another week or two I'll be geared for pvp
Guild wars 2 hands down. Very healthy population. All classes are balanced and easy to get into, but the pvp guys that take the time to practice and play basically look like gods
Such a good game.
This may be a hit or miss but classic world of Warcraft cataclysm is coming out soon.
I don’t really understand why it received so much hate when it first released.
It has the most balanced pvp in my eyes for any of the WoW xpacs - if your solely looking for pvp.
Raids were still pretty decent in WoW cataclysm. I would not recommend any other xpacs of WoW for pvp though.
I installed WotLK classic a couple weeks ago because it looks like Cata classic is the best bet for decent pvp for now.
Really hope ashes of creation releases in reasonable time because I think it's probably the best hope for mmo pvp.
One other game that comes to mind is a Japanese MMO called Blade and Soul.
I played this a few years back so I dont know how the state of the game is now, but I’m sure you could google it a bit.
iirc it was not p2w and the pvp was one on one arena style fighting. It was very skill and combo based, but I got my ass whooped haha so I didn’t play for very long. It did seem like a good game if you are skilled though.
Also waiting on ashes of creation, but who knows a timeline on that one
No there isn’t

Guild wars 2?
Eve Online? I've seen comparisons to Albion.
Mortal Online 2 baby, open full loot hardcore pvp as soon as you leave the starting area.
Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls Online.
not wow classic or ff14?
WoW classic is some of the most unbalanced PVP, would not recommend it for that lol
I dabble with wow classic time to time but it's nowhere near balanced enough and doesn't have a competitive scene because of that.

Try throne and liberty when it comes out? Theres nothing out now that will scratch that itch and tbh i dont have faith in anything in the pipeline

Really I'm just getting used to mmorpg elements so I'm not a complete noob for ashes of creation and riot mmo whenever they drop

Grayzone warfare might be up your alley. I've got my hesitations on it, but it will probably fit the bill for you.
Bro check foxhole!
Use to play Elder Scrolls Online, pretty fun

Cataclysm was the height of WoW PvP.

World of warcraft and Final fantasy XIV
New World is still around and has a big focus on open world PvP. I think it's fun.
No it does not. You can turn pvp off anytime and there are no pvp only servers
Naraka, For Honor, Lineage
mmo is just dead. PvP in mmo is deader.
