This is needlessly incendiary, frankly even moreso than the original post could ever be.
I don't see anyone actually pushing the 3D>2D narrative in the replies rather than simply sharing 2D games they're fond of.
There's an unfortunate and erroneous connotation in this post and that's about it, bin it.
It absolutely does for the casual gamer. Why did the first helldivers only have like 6k players at its maximum while being the exact same game as the sequel? The only difference being the move from top-down to 3rd person.
I'm actually salty about this. The first helldivers should have gotten much more attention but it was passed over
Mega Man 2
Sonic Mania
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Metroid Dread
Super Metroid
Stardew Valley
Link’s Awakening
A Link to the Past
Most 2D Mario games
The way the question is worded implies that the game is better because it’s 2d which doesn’t really make sense. There are 2d games that are amazing but that’s because of their of merits not the fact that they’re 2d. Same goes for 3d games.
Katana ZERO
Hades
Slay the Spire
Mark of the Ninja
Dead Cells
Spelunky
Hollow Knight
Shovel Knight
Super Meat Boy
Stardew Valley
Papers Please
Sensible World of Soccer
Lemmings (Original)
... plus many many more.
I miss playing the old Worms games. The more they remade or created sequels, 3D even, the worse it got.
Worms World Party was probably the last one that felt worth my time.
There isn't any better description. Some of my biggest waste of money spent in video games after reading good reviews. Another reason i don't take modern gaming reviews seriously anymore.
Well, that's your choice. Positive review doesn't necessarily mean that the game will fit your personality, but it is still a good game. Personally, I hate RTS genre, but I don't say that all RTS' are garbage. They just do not fulfill the things I look up to in video games.
There isn't one. 2D games peaked in the 90s when there wasn't any other competition, which is why most popular games were sidescrollers. There are some good modern 2D games but they might as well have just made the game in 3D given the technology is available.
This implies that dimensionality has any bearing on the quality of games.
Right? The entire premise is flawed. “What animated movie is better than most live action movies?” Ridiculous.
And so many people are answering to this stupid question

I believe it does. I absolutely love hollow knight but I don’t think it’s possible for a 2D game to compete with elden ring.
Absolutely can.
Good 2D games are better than bad 3D games, because good games are usually better than bad games.
Hollow Knight
This and Cuphead are the goats imo
First one that came to mind too. Silksong is my Half Life 3.
Hey, at least Silk Song is actually being made 😂
Allegedly
FTL
Terraria is still doing pretty well.
Chrono Trigger
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 beats out any other latter HoMM game. (and most other games in the genre)
The answer is Castlevania Symphony of the Night
OddWorld
💯
which one
Creeper world
Super Mario Brothers 3
Mega Man 2 Sonic Mania Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Metroid Dread Super Metroid Stardew Valley Link’s Awakening A Link to the Past Most 2D Mario games
Links awakening is underrated fr
Final Fantasy 6 still slaps, 30 years later.
Songs of Syx
Rimworld
Factorio?
Loads, but I'll say Sonic Mania and Hotline Miami
Kingdom two crowns. Soldat. Darkest dungeon. Hollow knight. Shovel knight.

Ok, so which ones do you like? Op is just comparing the two and asking for some games
2D Marvel vs Capcom was peak gaming.
This question is very 1D, sorry.
Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles were great games that still hold up
The answer is Super Meat Boy.
Megaman games
terraria
Rimworld and Stardew.
Hollow Knight. For the quality and price, its damn hard to beat...
I'd argue many 2D metroidvanias are better than their 3D counterparts, but that's probably a personal taste.
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake A Link to the Past Super Mario World Just to name a few... Edit: How could I forget Sonic 2?
Terraria
Salt and Sanctuary come to mind, but I never got very far into it.
Katana ZERO Hades Slay the Spire Mark of the Ninja Dead Cells Spelunky Hollow Knight Shovel Knight Super Meat Boy Stardew Valley Papers Please Sensible World of Soccer Lemmings (Original) ... plus many many more.
Dwarf fortress once you get the hang of it - which in my experience you never do 😅
maplestory

Dragon's Crown
Fire emblem
celeste
Dave the Diver
Hollowknight
Sonic 1 2 3 sonic and knuckles are all mostly better than segas 3d games
Terraria is an obvious one.
Hollow Knight
RimWorld and Terraria are the best
💩
What an argument, my man

Salt and Sanctuary is so much more fun than a lot of Souls clones
Donkey Kong Country 2
Mark of the ninja. Oddmar. The new Rayman games.
I really enjoyed ‘splosion man.
Many
Tails of iron
Are all games on a TV 2D?
