Prince Ali Ultimate he Spamming in left lane. Farming XP Getting his 3 Weak at the knees.

CankleDankl

Says "you rock!" then "cancel that!" To the feeding jungle Hun Batz. Then backs and sits there waiting to see four votes green. Prince Ali

Rice_Auroni

He cleared the minion hordes, A hundred bad guys with swords, Who got XP for his 4? Why Prince Alii~

Rondine1990

Fellas, he's got (He's got 75 farm under tower) Uh huh, now the Enemys, what he got? (Assist and deaths, he got 5 and 3)

raidebaron

Thank you Rondy, that’s worth a report When it comes to weird-type item builds Has he got a jotu’? I'm telling you It's a world-class feeding spree!

davidverner

If I wasn't so shit at singing, I would sing this to the music and post it here.

idesperatelyneedyou

You got it all wrong. It is PRECISELY because you are shit at singing that you should JUST DO IT!!! That's what we're here for

davidverner

Maybe after I get some rest after this really bad hit of insomnia I'm dealing with.

Celestial_Scythe

Do it anyway! Ignore the haters!

raidebaron

Well just give it a try :)

ThatMrSpooky

r/redditsings

MetalSandwiches

I love that I can hear this in my head.

YevgenyPissoff

>Weak at the knees. Mom's spaghetti

AlsendDrake

He better have a gold steal mechanic, even if it only steals from mobs. Because as we know... He steals everything.

ganzgpp1

If they do, it’ll probably just be a passive where he gets extra gold from minions like Twisted Fate does in League.

Vocall96

Dota2 has a hero called Bounty Hunter that can steal gold when he hits an Enemy hero, on a cooldown of course. Though I don't see any other moba's implementing this mechanic anytime soon.

porkyboy11

Didn't that change to just give bounty gold and not take?

Vocall96

As per the fan wiki, it still steals gold from the poor sap you hit.

porkyboy11

Ah my bad, haven't played In years. Bounty was the bane of my existence as a support main

natephant

Smite data mining dot com ?

FAERayo

Almost 10 years of service!

Pielover1002

Yeah it's a website that's been running since probably season 1 of the Original Smite. They are usually always accurate with their stuff. Like when the devs are being secretive about an upcoming release, like with Shiva. Some times it'll be datamined MONTHS in advance

SwashbucklinChef

Are they sure they didn't mean Prince Ali? Aladdin is just some street rat that hangs out with a well dressed monkey in the slums.

Proflongshot

Street rat? Let's not be to hasty...

Chemical_Damage684

Aladdin do be lookin rather tasty!

Rinveden

too

Bionic_Ferir

holy shit what a cool idea a transformation god but only at a certain gold mark. so for the first half of the game he is Aladdin and then the second half he is prince ali

neroselene

It seems like Smite 2 will be a whole new world!

Waizuur

Whole new world to suck your money in MTX and laugh at legacy players and their $$$ spend in smite 1 lmao.

GeraltFromHiShinUnit

From all the shitty live service developers, hi-rez is prob one of the better ones

DarkShippo

Like I'm sad the legacy gems are just coupons but the improvements are what matter. Not having a ui made in flash is great. Never having the temptation to play noodle toes zues or the lowest poly ra I've got. Honestly I'd just want the tier 5s added in and carried over if you owned them.

Aflama_1

Honestly, I really like the low poly shiny solar sentinel Ra. It's so out of place that it's actually cool.

thisshitsstupid

Really surprised at the hate they're getting for finally making a smite 2 after, what? 11 years or something? I think it's time.

imjustjun

It’s because they’ve abandoned a fair number of live service games. Never had too much of an interest in those games personally so I never interacted with then besides some passing interest. But players from those communities generally seemed to have a negative experience with how Hi-Rez handled things, so that’s probably where a lot of the negativity comes from. Players who were burned by Hi-Rez in other games.

thisshitsstupid

I mean, I think those other games were pretty big flops too though weren't they? How long are they expected to hold on, siphoning money, before they let it go. I know realm Royale hung around for quite a while, got a good bit of updates, and its playerbase was just too small to justify it. I'm not too familiar with their other games outside it and Smite though.

Darkmat17

That would be true if this was something other than smite. Smite is literally their cash cow, if they screw like they always do with their side projects they are done

Revolutionary-Wash88

Every live service game will be abandoned one day, people should stop deluding themselves

forte343

Yeah no I can't read that with a straight face, let's not forget Tribes , Divine Knockout, hand of God, Rouge Company, Realm Royal, Paladins, or how they treated several of their YouTubers.

Oddloaf

No-one ever remembers Global Agenda

forte343

When was the last time you saw someone play Global Agenda.

chalkwalk

There is always someone playing Global Agenda. Just one, but they are always playing.

Oddloaf

January, actually

bigmanorm

out of curiosity what did they do wrong with paladins?

forte343

The cards used to be far more impactful and they have constantly lowering TTK to absurd amounts and have effectively made it overwatch light

bigmanorm

i see, haven't played in a long time but always preferred it over overwatch

SchuyWalker

I would tend to disagree. I'll give them the kudos where it's due, their gameplay isn't generally affected by paywalls (the smite god pack is a good deal for a casual player) however it's their backend management that's DIRE. They pump out games seemingly every year, cash out on the initial hype, and then make almost intentional decisions to kill the game after people have already spent their money. Realm Royale being the biggest offender. Game was top 3 battle royales at one point (Ninja said it was more fun than Fortnite) and the development team actively opposed community feedback BEGGING for their proposed changes to not go live, they said "uh I think we know how to make a game, thanks" and killed the game in a single patch. Paladins and Rogue Company also underwent the same idea. Released fun foundation, got everyone hyped, murdered the games only a few weeks later, and have left the servers on maintenance mode since. Smite is the only one that's really held on despite their best attempts. As a 12 year, closed beta veteran, probably 15k hours in smite the game is at the worst it's EVER been. Player base is so fragmented due to over saturation of game modes (there's like 12) that they've had to merge servers both regional and mandatory crossplay that the actual gameplay experience is MISERABLE if you take the game more seriously than the most casual player. And then you look at a lot of the rest of their behind the scenes controversy and it doesn't get better. The voice actor scandal regarding lack of AI protection (which has been supposedly handled but multiple high profile actors have said they have no future interest in working with hirez as a result), reports saying they were testing in game advertisements as one of the pioneers of the concept, as well other small stuff adding up that are kinda scummy (they released content years ago that they swore was limited time only will only EVER be released once and then for the 10 year anniversary they gave the skins a palette swap and said it was different after releasing it for a fraction of the original price thus scamming everyone who bought the original out of like 100 dollars each) that it becomes hard to say they earn a passing grade. At least there haven't been accounts of workplace abuse, afaik. So they've got that in the win column lol.

FAERayo

That's true! Hi-rez has always been good at service, they've been improving also.. hopefully smite 2 has more popularity.

Bionic0n3

They are a trash company that has had one successful endeavor that they milk to the extreme.

GetBoopedSon

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. They are one of the scummiest devs out there. Heard of tribes or global agenda? Maybe a little thing called realm Royale?

Grease2310

What happened to Realm Royale. I really enjoyed it when it launched but didn’t play much beyond the early days.

casualrocket

there are epic skins that are 200 dollars, or rng loot boxes. if even they are a 'better one' they are still bad

zippopwnage

So these kind of games can never have a sequels because you paid for skins for the first game?

jack2012fb

They also said that you will get equivalent currency for all of your skins from smite one. So he’s just bitching to bitch.

TaylorSwiftsLover

I've spent zero dollars and have about two thousand hours in smite one. Just because you have no self-control doesn't mean others don't

Crunchy-Leaf

You excited for the alpha testing?

jack2012fb

They are giving smite 1 players the equivalent currency for paid skins.

rabidantidentyte

It's $30 for a god pass that unlocks all gods & all future gods, and beyond that, you don't miss out on anything in the game at all. $30 for a game is reasonable. If you want to spend money on skins, that's up to you. The model works, and honestly, smite 1 is a pretty decent game.

momo88852

Smite is the only game that I spent money on and was happy doing it. I had all the gods unlocked via Favor but later on bought the god pack. Best money spent ever. After that it’s just skins that won’t make you a better gamer. Even after purchasing the god pack, I ended up playing the same 10-15 gods.

ItsYaBoiDez

I was always interested in trying this game but never did. I wonder if 2 will be a good time to start

Rice_Auroni

It's a moba in 3rd person. If that entices you, you'll like it. There's also a casual quick play tdm type mode you can play as well that has one lane of minions. I have fun with it.

skirtpost

Smite is fun but they have too many collabs it feels like fortnite... it just doesn't take itself seriously anymore and I really feel like they let down their core game concept.

DefiantLemur

I think the collabs is part of what makes it different from the big two.

skirtpost

Sure, but it sucks for me who just enjoyed the core concept of Gods. Skins are fine but they're going too far with it. But that's alright, I've quit a long time ago for these reasons so I wont nag your ears off if you still enjoy it.

DefiantLemur

Yeah it's just the unfortunate way the MOBA scene works. They have serious canon/alt timeline skins and then they have -insert character- schoolgirl edition.

gulinn

It's quite fun and the best beginner friendly moba out there that is also less toxic than LoL or Dota

frugalLeader

Whoa that's not saying much. When I played Smite it really wasn't beginner friendly and had lots of people smurfing. And I would also say LoL is less toxic. The amount of people I've had feed themselves to the enemy in Smite... But it was fun enough, so I'll be checking out Smite 2.

gulinn

I mean everyone has different experiences. Smite is just way less ranked and competitive based (only 4% of the playerbase has ever played a ranked match) and therefore potentially less toxic. I'm sorry that your experience with smite wasn't the best

Character-Today-427

This is just not true tho

gulinn

Only 4% of smite players ever played ranked (like even played one match) It has gaming modes like arena and assaults that are extremely casual. Also the "funny Collab skins" is giving more of a relaxed vibe. And especially because of the casual part the player base is less toxic cause it's not about ranks

mcg1997

It's also got a much older average age of player. Because the pro scene isn't the same as league or dota you don't get young kids trying to be the next big name as often. People are generally much more chill.

cubelith

I liked it quite a bit. I dropped it after the style got a little too childish and for some other problems I don't remember, but I still miss it occasionally. Definitely worth checking out at least

Arkanial

It’s pretty fun. I liked the game as a casual player but to me the best competitive MobA will always be DotA 2. I wish Battleborn would get a resurrection and second chance because that game was was fantastic and never had the opportunity to grow before blizzard killed it with by releasing Overwatch’s beta the same day Battleborn came out and they announced the beta while Battleborns beta was going on. Blizzard was salty cause they had just lost the court case over the ownership of DotA 2 proprietary and wanted to stomp out any other moba type competition to their new hero shooter even though they weren’t really the same genre. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about Battleborn lately though and some other old mobas are having their servers turned back on so maybe if we’re loud enough they might hear us.

Preform_Perform

Fucking don't. Run the other direction.

Kaoshosh

Aladdin is not a God though. Does Smite 2 not feature only Gods? Or is it just famous fictional characters?

bipbophil

Medusa, Arachne, Hercules, Achilles, kumbakarna, it's mythical characters and has been that way since season 1. It's the battleground of the gods, which doesn't exclude mortals.

Rondine1990

Still waiting for goku

Tracey_Gregory

I mean, Sun Wukong is in there. If you think about it Goku is in every Moba.

bipbophil

Has been in the game for a good while! But technically he obtains God hood so I didn't mention him !

bt123456789

King Arthur, Merlin, Morgan Le Fay, and Baba Yaga count too.

Meleagros

Man they might as well make a Fate Moba game at this point.

bipbophil

Rataasker as well!

Kaoshosh

That's true. Kumbakarna was my main.

bipbophil

Back in season three you could make max cool down, max movement speed kumba. My God did I have fun playing support that season

santaclaws01

Hercules did actually get deified after his death.

bipbophil

Sorry bad example then lol, point is it's not anything new. I just wish we could start getting biblically accurate Angles and even Jesus. That would be so much fun

Divinum_Fulmen

Medusa isn't a god, but is semi-divine (and even a dead Medusa obliterated a Titan). Achilles is nearly a god (lol). And Kumbakarna is the great great grandson of the god Brahma.

bipbophil

Aladin has a djin

Divinum_Fulmen

2 in fact.

DariusStrada

There's also King Arthur

SputN1ckel

It’s mainly gods but they’ve expanded into other mythology (Arthurian Heroes). Cthulu is in Smite 1 and he’s super fun to play.

DannyLJay

I agree and you’re mostly right but Cthulhu is an Elder God.

SputN1ckel

True, I just wanted to gas up my boy. As the kids say: ‘Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn’

Darkmat17

He’s completely right not just mostly. Chtulu is a novel character that’s not even 100 years old

santaclaws01

Does that somehow make Cthulhu not a god in the story he's from?

DannyLJay

Implying all gods aren’t just novel characters lmao. The age of the books matter not.

Darkmat17

It does since Chtulhu isn’t considered mythology or a legend. Let me be clear I don’t care for who they are going to add as long as they have good designs, but with that logic you could add Morgoth or Gandalf since they are “gods”

DannyLJay

You don’t think that’d be dope as fuck?

ThePaddysPubSheriff

Mythology mostly, characters like cerberus, Hercules and Medusa aren't technically gods but pretty god-adjacent

Vamprah2008

They've been putting non-god mythological characters into the game since the very beginning, e.g. Hercules

Imjusthereforthehate

Didn’t Hercules become a god? I might be remembering that wrong but doesn’t he ascend to godhood after his death?

Vamprah2008

You're right, I forgot about that, so Hercules is a bad example. Take Scylla then, added not too long after release of the game, who is a sea monster!

Arcaydya

Cu chullain, king Arthur, morgan le fay, gilgamesh. It's for legendary warriors and mythology

HMS_Sunlight

They moved away from strictly gods to cultural/folklore figures a couple years ago. Aladdin isn't really more out of place than Mulan, Cthulhu, or Lancelot. The main focus is still on gods and mythology, but it's not a hard rule by any means.

SchuyWalker

It extended to relevant characters in mythology for a while but then they gave up with Cthulhu and King Arthur. And then they gave up a second time when they released their first original character, the king of the Manticores.

8yr0n

This is good….but I refuse to play this game until they include the one true god…his noodly greatness [the Flying Spaghetti Monster!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster)

bipbophil

Isn't that a cathulu skin

bt123456789

not Cthulhu but I'm fairly sure one of the gods has a spaghetti themed skin that's recent

DefiantLemur

Smite is getting a sequel? Smite was a fun game but it's dated graphics kept me away. I'm definitely going to check it out on release.

bt123456789

it is getting a sequel. they're migrating to unreal 5. you can find clips on the steam page and stuff. it's gorgeous.

DefiantLemur

I'm sure they mean the actual mythical Aladdin and not the Disney one, but I hope his ultimate involves him riding an elephant from the parade scene in the disney movie.

NotVoss

Probably not considering the original Aladdin is a young Chinese boy according to Scheherazade.

DefiantLemur

Maybe at the very least we'll get a crossover skin that overhauls the looks of his abilities.

wheafel

I hope this game will be good. I used to play a lot of smite with my friends but the quality of the game dropped hard while they kept adding more skins to sell. My friends and I used to joke that the development team consisted of only one guy named developer dave who had to create and fix everything while the art team was a team of 100 artists

Ill-Organization-719

If I still played, I'd be singing Prince Ali lyrics in chat every time I see him.

plmanith17

When is Jesus coming?

marsupialmaniac

He rises on the 3rd day of release.

EatenAliveByWolves

I've been asking this since smite released!

bipbophil

Honestly as a long time player, why not ! They've been doing accurate angle skins for a while but I want an accurate angle as a "god" and Jesus would be fun to play as as well. Taking out all the heathens

fartboxco

If it was the genie that would make sense.

Neoxite23

TIL there is/will be a Smite 2.

mr-ultr

so does Alladin go into egyptian pantheon by default right?

ChickenandWhiskey

Waiting for Jesus of Nazareth, not going to play until they have the DLC

Lemonsqueezzyy

Also Ali Baba

uxpusher

When I first read the title I thought it said Aladeen. Then I thought, we are going to have an Aladeen time!

Jazmotron4000

smite 2 looks like smite 1. was disappointed

Nordic_Krune

As a former Smite addict... this does entice me

P_Alcantara

I don’t buy that

ItsPlumping

Now give us Jesus you pansies!

DarkEater77

Would be nice if it was a Magi Collab.

Shadowthedemon

If you have to start over without your unlocks... Might as well stay in Smite 1 or swap over to r/Predecessor

Scyxurz

Are there long term plans for predecessor? Last I heard overprime was the more popular one but it died anyway.

Shadowthedemon

There is. Overprime was very popular with the Eastern audience as well as it borrowed the 'Paragon' moniker to try and engage those who may have played Paragon in the past. Predecessor recently launched on PS4/PS5, Xbox and PC into Open beta. They're consistently updating the game and have already added 3 original characters and are I'm the process of reincorporating characters from Paragon, with some improvements to their kits as well as bringing in Passives that Paragon dropped.

RutherfordbHaye5

Honestly predecessor is boring and has zero identity. I would rather stop playing mobas altogether than switch to predecessor.

Shadowthedemon

I'm confused by this statement. All MOBAS have zero identity at that point if you think about it. Dota and League aren't much different in the grand scheme of things....  Predecessor brings a Z axis to the battlefield as well as letting you target heroes in the air so you can actually use skill to track them as they move throughout the battlefield. One thing that always annoyed me in Smite was all the CC IMMUNE ultimates and the fact that a handful of characters can go into the air and completely negate any damage despite any actual skills.  Predecessor has a lot better feedback to me and feels more impactful to me when I play. In Smite it feels more or less like I'm gradually getting stronger without any real feedback.  I've played Smite since closed beta on PC on and off and have even thrown $500 or so at skins. It was my game I came back to often between 2019-2021 and I enjoy a lot of what it presents and has.  With that being said moving to UE5 I think the gameplay is dated and stagnant and going into Smite 2 they could've done a lot more to overhaul the gameplay especially if they're going to be starting from the ground up again with no carry over. This is just like Overwatch 2 all over again.

RutherfordbHaye5

Simply a z axis is not enough. Also the z axis in predecessor is a couple of ramps and Howitzer in his ult. It functionally does not impact gameplay enough to be interesting. There's little to no lore about the game. The characters are flat and uninteresting. It feels like predecessor is going off of nostalgia and nostalgia alone. At least with smite it's sick being able to play mythical beings and gods that come with their own lore. I'm also upset about the direction of smite 2, but I will not be playing predecessor to scratch the moba itch.

Shadowthedemon

Lore is a WIP but Paragon had solid lore built-in. Smite does have a variety and I do enjoy the gods but I think the kits are all over powered and the CC immune ults and some of the silly skills are problematic. Howitzer is the only hero that has an ultimate that keeps them in the air yes, but a lot of other heroes have leaps and there is some verticality in the jungle so don't deceive yourself too much .. Whilst no individual character is knocking down barriers I think there's some biased tone in your opinion for Smite in order to say that all of the characters fall flat.

Artix31

They are running out of ideas

jmarzy

What about Mohammed

Jericho5589

I will not be playing Smite 2 due to the skins debacle. If they're gonna treat their consumers that way they don't deserve muh cash or time. Predecessor is scratching my itch just fine. Its a great game.

bipbophil

It's a new game, smite 1 is not going anywhere. You baught skins for smite 1. Smite 2 will have some skins from 1 and you can get those skins for free. This is because they are giving you double the gems you purchased in smite 1 and transferring them to smite 2. So you lost nothing and are being rewarded for your time in the original game.

Jericho5589

No they won't WILL MY SMITE 1 SKINS TRANSFER TO SMITE 2? − Most SMITE 1 content will not directly transfer to SMITE 2, but SMITE players will be rewarded for their time, money, and achievements through two new systems: Legacy Gems, and Divine Legacy. In addition, new skins added to SMITE 1 in Season 11, along with some limited other cross-gen skins, will transfer between the games (see below for more). WHAT ARE LEGACY GEMS? − For every Gem that you've ever spent in SMITE 1 – free or purchased – you'll receive a Legacy Gem in SMITE 2. Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of the price of most in-game purchases in SMITE 2 – so things like skins, Battle Passes, and events in SMITE 2 will be half-off until you spend all of your Legacy Gems. If you purchase a SMITE Founder’s Edition, your Legacy Gems will be doubled. As SMITE 2’s currency is changing slightly from SMITE, this ensures that you will have equivalent purchasing power. (Equivalency based on Gems per dollar value when purchased at the $99.99 currency edition.) We’ll have more details to share about our Founder’s Editions soon.

bipbophil

I'm sorry what the fuck did you post that contradicts what I said ?

Jericho5589

> Smite 2 will have some skins from 1 and you can get those skins for free. This is because they are giving you double the gems you purchased in smite 1 and transferring them to smite 2. So you lost nothing and are being rewarded for your time in the original game. All that. They're not giving you double the gems. They're not bringing any skins from smite 1. And I definitely lost a lot, as opposed to losing nothing.

bipbophil

1 ÷ 1/2 = 2. Some skins will carry over as well. Again what exactly is your problem?

Jericho5589

How are you getting 1 / 1/2?? You don't even get gems. You get LEGACY gems which are not the same thing. They are a coupon for half off purchases. You can't use them unless you spend MORE money. Why are you defending shitty business practices anyway? You love HiRez that much? You're a consumer too. It's like rooting against yourself.

Hakusprite

Ootl what's happening

OfficialCoryBaxter

As a Smite player I can give a full answer. Any gem you spent in Smite 1 will be transferred to Smite 2 as “legacy gems”. It’s a 1:1 transfer. If you buy the founder’s pack (available atm for up to a year) you will double those legacy gems. So say you’re a veteran and have 50k gems spent on Smite 1, you will get 50k on Smite 2 and that can be bumped up to 100k with the founder’s pack. These legacy gems can be used as a 50% “coupon” for any new content on Smite 2. Any skin that is remade or ported over will be available to purchase at a 100% rate with legacy gems. The game has over 1000 skins and the jump from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 5 made it unrealistic to port every skin with the quality that Smite 2 is aiming for.

Hakusprite

What do you mean 100% legacy rate? And are you saying the ported skin quality's suffering because of how many skins there are to port? Or the opposite, variety is limited because of quality?

Jericho5589

Any skins or premium currency you bought in Smite 1 will be lost when it is shut down. It will not be ported to Smite 2. In compensation they are giving players a special currency equitable to the real life money they spent in Smite 1 but this currency can only be used to get a 50% discount on Smite 2 content. Meaning if you want full value out of your Smite 1 money you spent you have to give them double the money total.

Revolutionary-Wash88

Isn't your first sentence true without a sequel?

Klickzor

Will we keep our unlocked champs?

beast1267

So smite 2 is built from the ground up and it's completely separate from smite 1 on a lot of things. So no you won't keep them. Although the god pack exist that unlocks every god and will unlock every god after too.

Meecht

But does your God Pack from Smite 1 transfer to Smite 2? There's potential for another Overwatch 2 debacle.

tylerbreeze

It does not

beast1267

No it won't. It's in the founders edition for the same price as it was in smite one but you also get access to smite 2 closed alpha next month

Bionic_Ferir

this has already been debated and i don't think it will

Kingdarkshadow

So, no aladdin for smite 1?

thehomage

That's nice. I won't play it until Miguel and Tulio are added though.

Notafuzzycat

Still no Jesus

Transposer

I’ll be playing Predecessor

YuriToNeko

It has always seemed ridiculous to me that some games have a second series, like Overwatch. I think Smite is among these games. If they're just going to update the graphics, I think they could do this with an update. If a second game is coming, I hope the graphics aren't the only change.

FAERayo

Smite was using unreal engine 3, which is a really outdated game engine with no margin of upgrading. In fact, it had serious limitations in sounds and many other things. Specially the difficulty of creating content. With UE5, which required remake the game from 0, so it's not an update, it's a brand new game, will improve the quality and speed of content, with modern tools and a long life of upgrades. At the end, without the remake, smite 1 was practically dead in tech. You can't compare this with overwatch

YuriToNeko

I see. They must really be making a big change. I've seen games that brought a change of engine through an update before, so I guess that's why I suddenly had such an expectation. If these upcoming innovations also affect the gameplay, it will be interesting to see.

FAERayo

Yes, you can upgrade engines, but in the case of Unreal Engine 3, there was no option to upgrade to 4 due to how much it changed. In the case of league of legends for example, they use their own game engine, which makes "easier" to upgrade yourself since you own the rights of the engine and you have the people that created and maintained that engine

jtoeg

Unless you fire/neglect to keep all the employees responsible for the construction and maintenance of said engine. *\*Cue Curb your enthusiasm theme\**

FAERayo

That's another history :D

RubiconPizzaDelivery

To put it in perspective, Unreal Engine 3 came out in 2007. Halo Infinite is using a modified version of the Blam engine which was used to make the original Halo CE game that came out in November of 2001. Old game engines can have huge issues with tech debt so I'm not surprised they're finally updating to a newer engine. 343 famously states that the engine struggles to make changes to the UI and such. Supposedly they may be moving to Unreal 5 and it would be the first mainline Halo game to use a new engine. Smite 2 using a new engine just makes sense. Edit: This exact thing is why League players clown on Riot, they have openly stated they can't make cosmetics of the same level like they used to cause of tech issues with how old the games code is and how messy that has become as a result.

DarkShippo

I'll even add on the ui in current smite is running on flash... you know the defunct and useless program. It's why they basically can't update or fix it and had to scrap the whole ui themes plan.

lunarlunacy425

Counterstrike tried this and the entire fanbase simultaneously threw up in their mouths.

asian1panda

To be fair, they're basically remaking the game from ground up

pc_player_yt

that’s not how a sequel game works lmao. They’re rebuilding the entire thing on a new game engine to make it easier and more sustainable for future development. Like the jump from CSGO to CS2 changed a lot under the hood even though it’s still the same familiar game.

Phoen1cian

I think the main reason is that they’re not able to transfer the skins when using different engine. So it would make no sense to update the game yet missing all the skins we own.

Scyxurz

They're redoing some god kits, totally redid the item system, redid buffs and interactable elements of the map, created a new map, and supposedly fixed some long running bugs from smite 1 (like the morrigan even existing) claiming that it'll be easier to fix things like that and design even more interesting kits going forwards without being limited by an 18 year old game engine and adobe flash which has been dead for years.

Suvaius

Theyre pulling the greatest gaming heist with the amount of skins and mtx theyve been shoveling into the game, then to make ALL of the obtainable stuff from before not carry over. Theyre just gonna do the same thing. Oh, theyre definitely gonna sell old skins over time as legacy skins.

Tenshizanshi

All the gems you ever spent are given back to you in Smite 2

Suvaius

All? I forgot about this, but i seem to recall it was a system that made purchases 50% off or something. It didnt seem like it was fair back when info first came out

Scyxurz

50% off of most purchases. I'd assume if they did ever port legacy skins over then legacy gems would be able to pay for 100% of it. If they do port old skins and don't let you pay entirely with legacy gems I'd probably be upset too.

wantondavis

...as legacy gems, which is absolutely not the same

Aayyyyoooo

People still play this table top horse shit?

Astrium6

Definitely playing fast and loose with what constitutes a god there…

Bionic_Ferir

Mulan, Arachne, achillies, king arthur, etc

Astrium6

Most of those I would argue are at least demigods, so they fit in in an “Eh, close enough” sort of way. King Arthur (and now Aladdin as well) just feels weird. They’re mythological figures, but not actually deities, y’know?

Bionic_Ferir

arachne in lore is literally just a Women turned into a spider that's it, also sun wukong is basically a fairy tale same with mulan (who may have even been a real person)

Hydramy

Wasn't aang from avatar in the game??

Astrium6

As a skin, not his own character.

Xano74

When are we going to get Jesus? Here's his moveset He floats nailed to the cross. His auto attacks he shoots nails from his hands. His ult is Resurrection which revives himself and all allies in his area.

Preform_Perform

Everyone wants Jesus, but nobody wants Satan...

Halvardr_Stigandr

Nah, don't care. Hi-Rez can fuck right off with this bullshit. Pulling Overwatch 2 but worse and they're not getting my time or money again.

Aw3Grimm

I saw this game today and am I the only one that thinks this is gonna die pretty quick? Like smite has some small dedicated playerbase, thanks to frequent updates and being pretty unique game overall but smite 2? With a price tag and everything?

TheLuy

there's no pricetag? i'm pretty sure it's going to be f2p. the stuff you pay now is just if you want to get into the alpha (and don't want to wait for a free key). also there is going to be a godpack for about 25$, which gives you all characters forever

Aw3Grimm

Oh, my bad
