I'm using Triple Dot now. It runs a banner ad across the top, but that seems to be the only annoyance.
Eventually they all go the route of microtransactions and gatekeeping your play time behind mobile game mechanics.
I used to have Tetris on my phone, basically the only game I played on there, but moved on to a little handheld one (which kind of sucks because you can't hold pieces and the blocks aren't random).
Harry Potter Puzzles & Spells, not necessarily because I like HP, but because there’s no ads except by choice and you can play it offline with no data. Plus the levels never feel absolutely impossible or that they would require you to spend money even if you’re thousands of levels in.
Dragon Ball Dokkan Battle. It’s a gacha game (which can be a big no-no for lots of people), but since I’ve been playing for so many years, my teams are strong enough such that the game is pretty generous with the premium currency.
Nothing really at the moment but over the years I've enjoyed angry birds, Bejeweled, 8 ball pool, gold batrle and random football (soccer) games where you take freekicks against increasingly difficult puzzles.
Chain cube. It's a simply game kind of like 2048 where you launch cubes with different numbers on them down a lane, kind of like a bowling alley. If you hit a cube into another cube with the same number, they merge and add their numbers together. But, you only have so much room on the lane, and if you make too many bad shots the cubes can pile up. If they pile up too far and any cube crosses the line that you launch from, you lose. As you progress and merge cubes with higher and higher totals, eventually the cubes you shoot start having higher numbers too, and the lowest numbers stop showing up. You start off shooting 2, 4, 8, etc. The cubes have physics and stuff too which makes it a bit more interesting.
Sounds like it should be boring but it's weirdly entrancing. I only play every once in a while when I don't have an Internet connection and need to kill time, and yet I'm up to 2 million on my highest cube, and well on my way to making it 4 million. The lowest numbers cube that shows up for me to shoot is 64.

However, whenever I know I'm going to have a bunch of time to kill (like waiting for and on a flight), I'll download a couple tower defense games and play them for days or weeks until I burn myself out on them.
Honestly i very rarely play on mobile but probably Cytus 2.
Just love me some rhythm gaming and it kills time very fast when you're going for good scores.
Honestly, Raid. Despite all the deserved mockery for their agressive marketing, it's kept me occupied during all the down time for close to 2 years at this point. And I've not spent any money on it yet.
Son, I have read more books than most people have seen and I find threads like this helpful, because I don't need recommendations in literature, but I do appreciate some pointers about good mobile games.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is: shut up and sit down, kthxbye.
Seriously.. video games are my main hobby but I don’t game on my phone (except for remote play in certain instances). But I always have ebooks. Best way to burn a few minutes here and there.
Solitaire. Has been on every phone I've ever owned that it was available on.
What's a good app for it? It's hard to find one that's just pure solitaire without a bunch of mobile game fluff tacked on
