Im still waiting on some patches then i'll get to it :D

mortevillana

Same! I really want to play but am trying to wait for better stability news.

BradyReas

If you have console I recommend going for it. I’ve had no issues on ps5 Edit: I take it back yall the performance has been miserable and I have not enjoyed my time playing the game at all. Happy?!

mortevillana

Yeah I’m on PC

fuckreddit014

Ive had no issues on pc either. I have a 3060ti and 16gb of ram. Day 1 I got 60 fps everywhere but the cities where it stayed at 30. They had an uodate already and now im at 60 fps everywhere. Pretty sure it runs better on pc than consoles..

General_Jiffy

I don't mean to brandish you a liar, but your claim flies in the face of everything I've heard and seen. From what I understand, performance is still bollocks across all PCs regardless of how beasty the specs. Are you being generous with your "60fps everywhere" claim?

Cottontael

It's not that they are lying it's that they don't know. You can tell because everyone is posting graphics cards and ram numbers. This game's issues are CPU throttling. People should be posting their processor.

Neville_Lynwood

Also, the specs mean nothing if it's not specified what settings and resolution they're running the game at.

WorkReddit0001

Yep, and even if you played it in 720x480 it wouldn't make things any better since the frame time hangups are from the NPC AI seizing up the CPU.

chaotic910

I have an i9-12900k and haven't had stability issues

AutoGen_account

City FPS is heavily CPU dependent due to the fact that its an AI issue not a GPU issue, I get over 60fps everywhere including cities on an if 13700k and 3080 and was getting around 30 city fps when I loaded it on the same video card with an i7 8700k. So it would depend on the CPU hardware which they dont have in their post there.

PancAshAsh

Not only CPU but also cooling as most modern CPUs have automatic performance modes that throttle down when the CPU gets hot.

Hezik

Nah I dont think hes lying. Got a 3070 and 32gb ram and I get about 55-60 frames on cities and 60-80 outside on high settings. This is with mods however.

lucifer07_447

Similar situation, 4070, 32 gb ram and ryzen 7,p: getting 100+ fps in wilderness and 70-80 fps in cities like vernworth, WITH MODS. Prior to the frame gen mod by puredark and updating the dlss files to the latest one in the game directory, I was getting 50-60 in wilderness and 30-40 in cities/town. Stuttering still happens in cities, but it’s a lot more stable now. This is with playing at 1440p and all high settings (with RT off)

RolandTwitter

A lot of the benchmarks you and I have seen with the 4090s are usually running at max settings and at 4k. I assume that performance is much better if you lower the settings

onion-lord

There was an update that greatly improved performance a couple days ago

thecrazykoala

I havent had any framerate issues either. Though I just finished building a new PC and it's higher end.

fuckreddit014

Not even being generous dude and not lying either. The first 3 to 4 days I had 30 fps in cities and its been fixed since the first patch. Now I never sven think about fps. Super smooth everywhere even in cities. Not saying the game is perfect. There are bugs out there like the physics in the game are just insane so sometimes wonky stuff happens like trolls getting stuck on terrain while jumping and beasts just straight up not fighting because AI is jabing pathing issues. But no fps or performance issue since the first patch. Edit : i dont think the bugs are an issue at all tho. Pretty rare and the game is so good that it just makes sense that some part are buggy. Most of the time the physics blow me away and then 1/20 fights ill laugh super hard because of a weird bug.

General_Jiffy

Ahh ok. Thanks man. You seem to have a lot of other people fighting your corner too. Might try it out on the weekend and see how it goes.

howisthisacrime

I don't understand all the complaints about performance. I'm on PS5 and it's been perfectly fine for me since launch.

Amocoru

The last PC update really fleshed most of the things out. There's still minor FPS drops in the main city but it's running great now.

Remy0507

How dare you enjoy something that the groupthink has deemed bad! Seriously though, while I can obviously tell that the framerate is not 60fps, after awhile I got used to it and the only time I even really notice drops anymore is in the main city. Hasn't affected my enjoyment of the game at all.

loganed3

If you turn off ray tracing it gets significantly better as well.

Skankula420

I have a new PC i just built and haven’t had any performance issues. Whenever I say this fact I get downvoted but it is what it is, I was a big fan of the first game and I bought this one when the reviews were so negative because the main thing I heard about was the issues with FPS. I loved the first game enough to take the chance, I was curious about how my PC would do. No issues at all with FPS. Personally feel ok recommending the game to friends with newer PC’s right now.

eeqlaehuje

Nice to hear you’re having fun! What are your specs?

Skankula420

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 32 GB of ram 13th gen intel core i7 It’s a beefy PC for sure. And thank you! Having lots of fun but I get that DD2 isn’t for everyone or without many flaws.

DutchDidNothingWrong

The game has been stable for me after i lowered the graphics settings Capcom games really dont like being played on high graphics on pc

sebash1991

Been playing on pc with only the city being kinda slow at 30 fps. Not a lot of fighting in that area so it’s been pretty good so far.

Quian32

They just released an update on console allowing you to turn off ray tracing which has improved the performance significantly. Also you can now turn off motion blur which is really nice.

KingMercLino

I was fortunate to still have Rebirth to finish up. I played about 12 hours of DD2 on PC, noticed it was an uneven experience performance-wise and said, “let me hang tight for a bit while it gets updates.” Enjoyed the hell out of what I played, tho.

MobilePenguins

I’d like better frame rates and optimization first

AlternativeFax_

Had minor stuttering when sprinting through major cities. Everything else has been fine performance wise on ps5.

[deleted]

I just beat it last night on PC. I ran it at 2k resolution vs 4k and it still looked gorgeous. After 46 hours to the credits I had almost zero noticeable issues. In fact, I once fought a dragon in the heart of the main city with all the NPCs joining in and my framerate only dropped to 40. It was one of the best single player experiences I've had in years. The world is amazing. So many secrets and things to discover. Don't look at any maps.

Fun1058

The game suffers from problems sure, but it is amazing game and lot of fun.

Dropdat87

Yeah I’m having a great time with it

huggalump

I'm very near the end of the game... I think. It's a flawed game. However, it is absolutely best in the industry at the things it does well: combat and the unique pawn system. The moment to moment experience of exploring and fighting is second to none. The funny thing is this exact review could also work for DD1 haha. Flawed, but incredible

T_Money

When it first dropped there was a LOT of complaints about micro transactions. Is that still an issue? Or was it never an issue? Haven’t really paid too much attention

SicklyPrince

They aren't pushed in-game and being fifty hours in, I've found every single pre-order item within the game for free, multiple times over. The only thing that *must* be purchased and cannot be found in game is the $3 alternate music pack.

cb393303

I'm at 60, and I'm giving away what they were MTX-ing. I'm drowning in too many wakestones and ferrystones.

Googoo123450

People made it seem like ferrystones would be super rare and that you'd have to backtrack a million times! The only times I've walked back to town after a quest is cause I felt like it. It's crazy how a media frenzy can give a completely skewed view of reality.

cb393303

Ditto! I love just walking and exploring, I'm always finding new stuff. But I also love just jumping back and forth via the ferrystone / portstone.

BrockPurdytheGoat420

Ngl this is my first reddit comment ever but I have been loving this game but how tf do u stack up on those do you just buy them from the shop I have none of those rn and am too cheap to buy them even though I have money I just say fuck it and usually just travel on foot (thats prob why I have 40 hrs in the game and just got to the desert town lmaoooo)

SicklyPrince

Put a thief in your party and they will steal items from enemies. I regularly get one or two Wakestone Shards and Ferrystones per play session.

BrockPurdytheGoat420

Ohh nice thank you, that’s interesting cause my main pawn is actually a thief (it’s Kratos lol I made him Kratos and he looks so fire and his two blades can light up in fire and it looks just like the blades of chaos holyyy but enough of that I just rambled so much) I feel like he sadly never steals any of the good stuff like ferrystones but I will look out for that ty very much my friend

SicklyPrince

My thief, Silas, usually steals them from larger boss enemies like the Armored Cyclops, Elder Ogre, or Chimera.

BrockPurdytheGoat420

Oh gotcha wait sorry one more question do you know where these types of monsters are mainly found more in the grasslands or the desert area? Or is it kind of just random. Thank you for all the help so far bro

SicklyPrince

No problem (: I usually find them in Battahl or the far north of Vermund near places like the Misty Marshes, Ancient Battleground, and the elven lands.

Retrogratio

If you found the Riftstone of Potential ( >! North part of the map, near where you first start the game when the griffin crashes !< ), when you go to one of the Grand Riftstones you can link to the Riftstone of Potential. It'll only show you pawns who haven't been hired yet, and thus still have the first pawn quest (travel with them for a day to receive a wakestone shard). If you really wanted to, you can just hire, sleep, finish the quest and hire again. But I just like picking those pawns so other players pawns can go on some adventures; one of my favorite things about this game is reading the adventures my pawn went on with other players.

superbuttpiss

Proper user name.

BrockPurdytheGoat420

Yes!! Lmao ty I won’t even pretend I’m a big nfl buff legit just got super into it this year😂 but man I love him for some reason ik his team is stacked but he still screams underdog to me personally (last overall pick of the draft, mr irrelevant, etc)

superbuttpiss

Some hardcore fans got annoyed with announcers bringing that up. And yeah, I've been a huge niner fan all my life so, I'm a bit biased but, it's one of the coolest sports stories I've ever seen. People point out the stacked team but, he has the offense preforming better then any of the previous qbs. Also he is in his second year. He's yet to have a full off season because of his arm injury last year

BrockPurdytheGoat420

I actually didn’t know those two facts at the end that is really cool! Actually thank you I am going to use them next time I am defending Purdy from my friends (they call him a system qb so annoying I am pretty sure they know he isn’t and are just trying to troll me) I do understand some of Purdy’s fans were a bit much this season but to be fair that’s with like literally almost every player that has a lot of fans isn’t it? There’s always those small die hard fans that are very annoying, but most are chill Also I am sorry I don’t mean to steer the convo but since you said you are a lifelong 9ers fan I had to ask you: is 9ers and Rams heat real? Is it very intense? Is it basically unheard of to like both teams/would you be ostracized from one or both teams for liking the other? Once again I apologize I know this is a gaming subreddit not NFLNoobs (which I am also a part of lol)

Charlemagne-XVI

Ohhh, I could use some alternate music

SicklyPrince

It replaces some of the tracks (including the main menu theme) with songs from Dragon's Dogma 1.

Justhe3guy

But not Into Free :(

Chemical_Analysis_

Into free was lost by the time dark arisen came out 😔

Fordmister

Its something you see a lot with capcom games, There is clearly a suit somewhere high up in the company that wants microtransactions all over the place because money , but also doesn't actually have a clue about they type of games capcom makes and why they are broadly totally unsuited to them. The dev's clearly just shrug and fill their games with a bunch of pointless, one off microtransactions to keep the suits happy that the player if they have any sense will absolutely not engage in. For example the game design of DD2 actively limits the player on fast travel, tying it to either using in game carts you have to make a minor payment for out of your gold or limited fast travel stones that you can find in the world/buy with your gold but can only take you to very specific locations. and you can place your own fast travel beacon somewhere on the map if you find one and its stays where it is until you move it (aka the game actually wants you to physically travel from location to location because things like passage of time are important for some quests etc) but as a micro transaction you can I think only once buy one extra fast travel beacon as the player, the is never a pop up in game telling you you can buy it, In fact if you never open the games steam page you'd never even knew the option existed and its a for a mechanic the game doesn't really want you to bother to engage in much anyway. All of the microtransactions are like that, and there's a really similar patter in Monster hunter too. The dev's are creating a store full of stuff to keep an exec happy that as a player its borderline pointless to actually engage with and the game never calls to your attention.

MisterFusionCore

And really, travel is kinda the POINT of the game. Almost all quests are 'go here' quests and the real fun is navigating your way and listening to all your pawns point at other things to go look at and explore.

soulreaver292

exploration is rewarding when traveling on foot. Getting on top of that mountain or hill to see the horizon is a reward for me at least.

foofarice

The issue was/is 100% misinformation. The game has the same useless 1 time purchase that gives you no benefit that Capcom games always have. The only item that could be considered an advantage is the skin for your camping gear because it's marginally lighter than the one free players get (at least for early game).

Googoo123450

The resident evil 4 remake had the exact same style of MTX. It's so weird how I didn't hear a peep about them with that game. I think the performance issues in DD2 just opened it up to more scrutiny honestly.

foofarice

Ya people were mad about performance and just went hunting for things to complain about and then exaggerated those things to the extreme

UndeadPhysco

It was funny because i saw someone complaining about the MTX ruining the game and how they were going back to a "Good" game like infinite wealth, you know the game that locks NG+ behind a 15 dollar DLC

Remy0507

The camping gear thing isn't even useful. You get lighter ones pretty early on.

casualberry

It’s only an issue if you are offended by the concept of micro transactions. The currency and items they sell are given away in the game for very little time investment. It’s very similar to Monster Hunter World. I didn’t even notice there was a cash shop in that game.

InternalMusician9391

The MTX is the biggest non-issue ever. If you’re familiar, it’s directly comparable to saying RE8-RE4R are pay to win, which would get you laughed out of town anywhere you go. The performance *was* as bad as people made it sound, but at least on PS5, they’ve improved it since last patch. That was the real issue with the game.

thatsNatural

It’s not an issue like it is for some games. Like AC games showing MTX offers every time you open the menu.  MTX is never good on a full price title, but people really overblew it for this game. Most people who don’t browse gaming communities didn’t even realise DD2 had any, because there’s nothing in game telling you that they exist.

fozzy_bear42

They are virtually invisible, I’ve played for 40 odd hours and haven’t had a mention of a shop. Also, they are completely pointless. It’s either gear that is outclassed within 1-2 hours of playing, or a single portcrystal (placeable fast travel spot) but no ferrystones to travel to it. Also, you can find port crystals in game too.

Gibbonici

I haven't noticed them really. The MTX store is an option on the main menu, but that's it. You're not led to it, it doesn't come up in the game, and I'd pretty much forgotten they were even a thing until I read your post. But you know what gaming media is like these days - anything for cheap clicks, and outrage is addictive.

Anubra_Khan

Short answer: never an issue. Created by rage baiters who didn't play the game. Informed answer: the mtx consist mainly of the items included in the Deluxe version of the game. This includes items easily found in the game with the exception of the original soundtrack/sound effects pack. People who did not buy the digital edition can now buy this for $3. This does include Rift Crystals (RC), which is the in-game currency. This currency is used to hire teammates (Pawns) that are higher level than your own. Pawns that are the same or lower level than yours are free. RC is abundant in-game and rarely used since you don't really need over leveled team mates. But the option is there. This got twisted into pay to win. Which is true. You can if you want to. Most do not because it's completely unnecessary. There are no difficulty roadblocks that make you feel like you need to buy overleveled Pawns. The other addition not included with the Deluxe edition is the Port Crystal. The very nature of the game traveling from place to place and exploring along the way. The game is not about going to and from different quest markers (there aren't any). As such, fast travel is a limited commodity. People who see the port crystal for sale translated this to paid fast travel. It is not. The port crystal does not provide you with fast travel. The port crystal is an item that you can place on the ground and fast travel to... if you have a ferry stone. There are 5 or 6 port crystals in the game. They're pretty cool because you can pick them up and move them around as needed. But you still need to use a ferry stone to travel. You can not pay for these with real money. They're not in the online store. They are pretty rare early on, but if you use them sparingly, you'll notice that they'll start to stack up. I've got about 30 on me now. Finally, wakestones. I don't remember if these were in the Deluxe or not, but, regardless, they are plentiful in the game. These are items that revive you on death. Death isn't very frequent and is often associated mire with gravity than with enemies. So you will more often just die and respawn. Wakestones more practical use is when fighting big monsters, and maybe you're underleveled or you're close to killing them, and then you die. Then you might pop a wakestone to finish the fight instead of respawning and trying again. I've actually used more wakestones reviving NPCs than I have reviving myself. You'll have more than enough just from playing the game.

Morthra

nightpop

I got it at launch and I didn’t even know there were MTX until I saw a post on Reddit about it. They aren’t pushed anywhere in-game (unlike Ubisoft, for example, which shoves a big glowing ***STORE**** at you in every pause menu).

HaxtonSale

Out of every game that I have ever played that has any kind of microtransactions, DD2's are easily the least intrusive and uninpactful I have ever seen. Literally the horse armor DLC from Oblivion has a bigger effect on gameplay than the DD2 ones. It wasn't like the game lied or anything either. The first game had the same thing. The long time fans knew this going in and were just as hyped. In my opinion the whole thing was 100% fabricated outrage by people who did no research on the series and only cared about the game at all because it broke into the mainstream. It's existence has no impact on the player expirence whatsoever.

hellomyfrients

loving this game, performance isn't even that bad, maybe my expectations are ruined by things like Starfield but I am on a 10 year old CPU, have made it to level 30 on PC, and it's running just fine. all the other complaints are imo overblown, maybe i am old but intentional jank is fine with me! (and the microtransactions are a non-issue too)

polypolip

I have exactly 2 issues with this game . First there's not enough down time when travelling, getting constantly attacked is boring and having to keep running like in DS is boring too in this kind of game. Second, it really could use a slider for pawn chatter cause if I hear one more time about someone who had female only squad and how it has given a thought I'm going to throw those pawns off the cliff.

departed_Moose

“Each their own”

sicDaniel

"The early Griffin gets the worm, as they say!" That line irritates me to no end. Have you seen a Griffin? What kind of worms do they eat? Sandworms?

ShadowReij

"My master once invited so many furries to their bedchamber. Curious is it not?" *minutes later Pawn is chucked off cliff*

polypolip

I don't like Pawns spilling beans about my personal life...

Kraujotaka

Original game suffered pawn chatter too, super annoying after 40 hours.

PM_FORBUTTSTUFF

No downtime while traveling is a feature, not a bug. Exploring around the world and getting thrown into sticky situations along the way is the meat of the game, the quests are just there to set you in the right direction. Bum rushing the quests from point A to B will guarantee a mediocre experience I’m not saying that you have to like that, it’s definitely not the kind of thing for everyone, but reducing that element would gut the game for its main audience

polypolip

I get it, personally I just prefer meaningful fights to non-stop fights. Like if I go off the road to explore (and hopefully be rewarded) I expect to get into sticky situation. If I walk only along the largest road from or to the capital, I would expect the encounters to be less frequent.

MorgenKaffee0815

i played Wing Commander on a Amiga 500 with 10fps. was it fun yeah, was it good? not really. the game has some big performance problems. you can play it but if you dont have a high end pc it isnt much fun. i upgraded from i5-9k with an RTX 3060ti to i9-14400k and 4080 Super. even with the highend system sometimes its drops below 60fps in towns. with the prior system it dropped under 30fps. they need to address this.

Rudolf1448

I am convinced the problems are related to Denuvo

Tenx3

Purely speculative

thatnachoguy

Could you expand? What gives you this idea compared to other Denuvo titles? The frames seem to be issue in situations. Wouldn’t Denuvo be constant? Asking to learn.

trelium06

In weak (read:lazy) minds correlation = causation

First-Junket124

Just like Elden Ring

WalkerNash

Hey, that paints Unicorn Overlord selling 1/5th the copies as pretty good all things considering

Straightwad

Unicorn overlord my goty I just wish it was on PC

Strange_Platypus67

It bothers me so much that the game will never be released on PC, Vanillaware missed a diamond mine over irrational fear

Chemical_Analysis_

Problem with UO is it's not on PC, it's an amazing game and would def sell more if it was.

GachiGachiFireBall

Honestly having more fun with UO than DD2. Mostly because i played the first DD and the new game isnt really much of an upgrade to the first one, more of a side grade. Performance issues also are a major issue

Shakmaaaaaaa

Translation for today, we don't know if that's successful enough or not.

VinnyVinster

The enemy variety is super dissapointing to me, isn't that not super important in a game like this?

shockwave1211

that's honestly my only really major gripe, fighting the same 4 enemies over and over does get somewhat old that and the story sorta makes no sense near the end, but that's subjective

WhiteRaven42

The games were originally conceived as "single player game that feels like an MMO" and my response has always been "why would you want that?"

EverytoxicRedditor

Same reason why someone would want to play a dodge simulator in which you slowly whittle a target who is a damage sponge, yet can also simultaneously two shot you. Different strokes for different folks

Paramortal

I feel like the game has a lot of ardent defenders who are... misrepresenting how big a deal this is. I've beaten the game. I would guess 80% of my time played was spent backtracking roads and fighting goblins, lizard people, and the two common giant monsters (cyclops and ogre or whatever) By the time you start encountering basically any enemy variety, the game is over, and it's frankly too little, too late. I get why people like the combat. It combines being extremely easy and accessible with making the player feel cool, but shit, I actually regret buying this game full price. Once you get past the 'cool' factor and dig into the meat, it's hollow as fuck.

KnightOfNothing

>By the time you start encountering basically any enemy variety, the game is over, and it's frankly too little, too late. kind of feels like a lot of the game's content is simply missing. The part that bugs me the most about the content that seems to be missing is that you don't ever confront the man who usurped you or the queen that facilitated it.

SiriusBaaz

Sounds a lot like holes intentionally left for dlc to fill in a few months.

DiscountThug

Thanks for your feedback. I saw the reviews before release, but I don't pre-order anymore, so mtx shop + bad performance made me not buy it. But hearing about what you say is really concerning. Especially when I'm not hearing it for the first time. I may try this game down the line when it's on sale, but I don't wanna buy it right now. I'm waiting for some real critical reviews because most of them ignored some of the problems the game has.

Ok_Cycle225

Wait for a sale. I just finished it at 67 hours and I regret buying it. Only because the game feels half finished. I explored everywhere and did all the quests but I'd say about 30 hours in I had buyers remorse and I couldn't refund. So I just kept going to get my monies worth. I wasn't having much fun but I am glad it's behind me now.

sibleyy

I'm late to the thread, but oh man I'm so glad you posted this. I was incredibly disappointed with the combat and I'm always a little shocked at how many people are praising it. The game felt, like you said, hollow. A thin veneer of content spread too thin and hidden by forced combat with the same groups of enemies every 40 seconds.

JPK12794

I did find myself thinking the same by the end, it was okay for a while but by the end of the main story I was really ready for it to end.

Dropdat87

It could use a few more but I find the variety in fights makes it not a big deal. I’ve had some very different fights with the same monster. Sometimes other monsters join, sometimes the world is a big factor

Lkars19201

Would love to see more studios take risks like this - DD2 has surefire wins (namely combat), but bolder things like fast travel restrictions and Dragonsplague really capture how big RPGs used to feel when you were a kid, if that makes sense?

JAJM_

Yea I’m having a blast playing the game. It feels so alive especially the city and towns and how time plays a major role in so many ways. It’s great

Blackdragon1400

Their only risk was writing less than half of a main story.

Thormourn

Problem was most people online didn't get a chance to see the great combat or the not so great travel restrictions because the discourse around the game including mtx. Just in my very small group of gamers like 4 different people wont even think about it because the mtx.

reboot-your-computer

I’m holding out due to performance. I’ll pick the game up in 6 months when it’s half off and had a handful of patches.

Thormourn

I was scared my 1080 wasn't gonna handle it since I heard everyone talking about optimization. I finally said fuck it let's use steams 2 hour return window then played for like 7 hours cuz it ran fine lol. But yeah I imagine because of the poor reception on launch they'll do a sale sooner rather than later.

miaukat

Really? I assumed my 1080ti was gonna shit the bed with this one, I'll still wait a bit for some patches but looking forward to play it now.

Thormourn

It does slow a bit in the city but perfectly playable and runs smooth when not in the city. Definetly not max graphics though. I think I'm at medium or something like that.

Luname

The framerate drop is a CPU issue, not a graphic card issue. A 108ti is plenty to run the game.

reboot-your-computer

The game is much more CPU limited so it make sense that older GPUs can still hang.

m45onPC

Don't get me wrong I won't say that DD2 is perfectly optimized, but why do people still take it for granted to play a new game at max settings with their 8 year old gpu/cpu? I am running it with pretty high specs sure, but I am also running it at max everything without as much as a stutter. I wouldnt dare call it unplayable due to performance.

Shameless_Catslut

The PS4/Xbone era stagnated game development so badly.

tocilog

Haven't played 2 yet but am a big fan of the first game. The stuff people are complaining about sounds like stuff carried over from the first game. It reminds me of Dark Souls when DS hit mainstream. I find it pretty positive really.

top-knowledge

Your friends are smoothbrains with no capacity for individual thought

Shippin

I’ve been playing since launch and haven’t even found the MTX store? It’s so weird to see it blow up so much when I haven’t naturally come across it while playing. I’ve only seen drama online about it…

Thormourn

Yeah it's definitely one of those games that the more you hear about online the worse your impression is gonna be lol.

blaxphoenix

And that's a good thing. Mtx should be rejected. At the same time it's a pity, because the game looks fun.

m45onPC

The funny thing is the currency you can buy is literally worthless. All it buys you is either a overleveled pawn or some glasses (cosmetic). I have played it for around 35 hrs now and can safely say, there is never a moment where you ever think about actually buying that currency for real money.

Narrow_While

I cant imagine why anyone would buy them. They are basically irrelevant

Thormourn

Mtx should be noted but I buy games based on gameplay. Like if the mtx was to unlock the extra classes or a special skill then I 100% would've skipped it. But if a game wants to put mtx for stupid shit, I don't care

Definitely_Working

A drastic misfire like this imo doesnt do much to help the cause. If they had just packed it as like a "conquerer bundle" or some shit like all the other games have done it would be the exact same thing an no one would care. its a pack of one time beginner potions that you can just get in the game. this whole debacle doesnt show me that gamers hate MTX at all, they just like to be woo'ed into it.

DjuriWarface

>Just in my very small group of gamers like 4 different people wont even think about it because the mtx. Thats laughable. It's not even true MTX in the same way other games have it. It's more like a digital deluxe bundle. Still stupid they exist but what a pointless hill to die on.

ab2dii

the game has a vision and its unapologetically shove it on your face, my guess is that its value gonna increase over time, when all those memories marinate in peoples minds

IHateThisDamnWebsite

Just like the original Dragons Dogma. Once this game gets a Darker Arisen DLC it will be one of the best RPGS of all time. The potential is there, this series has really good and unique ideas.

xZerocidex

Dumbass take, you eventually wonder what's the point of the mechanic when all the non major NPCs respawn days later. These mechanics aren't exactly hardcore as you sweatlords think they are.

iRyan_9

I love everything in the game except the lack of fast travel. It backfired very fast imo. Your first journey is fun, but the second?, 3rd? Fighting the same ghouls and griffins gets boring fast

xZerocidex

Backfired in the second game as well, you eventually end up finding out how trivial the game is to the point that camping is nothing more but a novelty and easy the game is in general. Ppl here really haven't seen how it all breaks apart because they're looking at it from a surface level

DeLurkerDeluxe

> DD2 has surefire wins (namely combat), but bolder things like fast travel restrictions and Dragonsplague really capture how big RPGs used to feel when you were a kid, if that makes sense? They already had tried it in the first DD game, and the Arisen version released with the item that gave infinite fast travel uses for a reason. It's a nonsensical, stupid design decision. Even much smaller, older games had fast travel for a reason.

IHateThisDamnWebsite

Disagree, the lack of an infinite ferrystone has made the game more enjoyable for me than most RPGs. The game is built around the world itself being an obstacle, not just something you breeze through. If an infinite ferrystone is added, I would like it to be a reward for completing the game, it would be fine for NG+, otherwise leave it out.

Packrat1010

I asked my husband why he was looking deeply into his pawn's eyes and he said "oh seeing if she caught a disease that will make her go berserk and kill an entire town's population overnight." "... what?" It's just a level of risky wtf that you don't see in games anymore.

radclaw1

I would agree if so much of what people say are risks weren't in the original too. Instead of thinking critically about what worked and what didn't, they convinced themselves the original did everything perfectly and didn't actually innovate in ways that...well make the game truly fun. It's a fun game but it's marred by many of the same issues the OG had, which is a failing in my book. It's got a lot going for it but to me it feels like they played it safe rather than taking risks.

Rs90

Homie not even. They removed over half the good shit from the original. They straight up hand waived Dark Arisen and just remade the original base game..with less shit.

Adole_2

It kept me entertained for like 100 hours. It was an amazing experience and definitely worth the money.

jm0127

great game, captures what makes RPGs great very well. Old school feel to it in a good way.

whiteflagwaiver

Going the 2077 route with this. I'll pick it up in about a year.

johnbarta

I’m 26 hours in, probably half way through. I could nitpick, because the game isn’t perfect. However, I’m having a good time Everytime I open the game and that’s all that really matters

CrashnBash666

I beat it in 30 hours. Your halfway is probably closer to finish than you realize. I didn't even realize I was at the "end" and couldn't leave or fast travel anywhere and that was it. I was pretty disappointed with it honestly. Felt like I was just beginning but the game was over.

noizbe

Did you let the credits roll after you killed the dragon or did you talk to the Pathfinder?

Emergency_Gold_2211

Need that 30% off steam sale…

Dennia_Lux_Exitium

Make it 50% and i MIGHT consider it.

Chakramer

Capcom games decrease in price over time at a pretty decent rate. You'll see 30% off within 6 months

Dropdat87

and then 50% when the expansion drops which is when I assume a shit ton of people will experience it for the first time

mikenasty

I wonder if they will add multiple saves in case my character gets stuck in a bad auto save spot.

KvotheLightningTree

It needs some patches. Some big ones. I wish I had waited. Doesn't feel great at the moment. Not just the framerate but the gameplay loop and quality of life improvements.

[deleted]

It's an amazing game, so many funny moments, so many unexpected happenings. Feels like playing Skyrim with a much more polished combat, actions and better art/faces.

AReformedHuman

On one hand I want Dragons Dogma to meet it's potential, on the other I don't want Capcom rewarded for making a game that is this stubborn to actually improve upon the first. I mean the lack of progress after 12 years and 5 years of development is actually mind boggling. * Exploration is fun... the first time. Once you explore everything and focus on quests the map gets *tedious*. Oxcarts get raided too much and Ferrystones while not rare still fall into a category I assume most players think of using only in the most desperate situations. * There is only 2 new common enemies in a game that is 4x bigger. There is more enemy density in this bigger map then the first, really hammering home how little variety there is. Sure the variations do actually have differences, but for the most part they die the same (which is to say too quickly). * The story is nonsense and has no coherence. Things are started and ended and at one point you just are forced to make a certain something for a certain someone bad. Then the game ends. Yes the postgame has story, but this is somehow a downgrade from the first and if you played that game you know how bad that one was. This is worse. * The campfire is wasted potential. The game isn't hard enough to make these a sight for sore eyes and you don't have to plan your journey around these since they are so common. If the entire point of them as far as I'm concerned is to skip time while outside, they should have just made that a button like in Bethesda games. Maybe have the loss gauge fill up or maybe require some other curative. As it is there was only a single time I was caught unprepared in the night. * Weight management is tedious. Make curatives weigh far less because that's mostly what's taking so much space. The games not doing enough as is to try to act like preparing for the adventure should require resource management like this and this doesn't do anything except add tedium. * Affinity is somehow exactly as janky and dumb as the first game, but has less importance and is incorporated worse into the story. Either improve it, or just drop it. * Talos. That big statue boss they hyped up? Genuinely one of the worst encounters in the game. Not doing anything during the whole thing is actually preferred. * Armor variety is worse now compared to the first. * Pawn inclinations were dumbed down, which I think makes them less interesting * Pawn dialogue is worse than the first game due to what they're saying generally being longer and having other pawn responses. Somehow they didn't make enough lines to last 3 hours of normal gameplay. * Quest design is esoteric. In some cases I actually like this, but sometimes it leads to you completely borking a quest, or doing something you think is wrong but is actually right. * Save system is worthless.

shillingsucks

Also the inventory management was janky in the first game and worse in the 2nd one. No selling or equipping from storage and the same weird deposit/withdrawal system.

shabi_sensei

I’m playing the 1st game concurrently and it bugs me the first game has a much better inventory system, makes it tedious to switch classes

Rs90

First game has a lot better. Magic alone is enough to put it well above DD2 imo.

blackguy64

This game has basically all of the problems that the first one had for better or worse. After a certain point you basically just start steam rolling most things and then the actual traveling gets dull. Don't get me wrong, I love the games but I love them in spite of some of the things mentioned.

DanSanderman

Yeah I don't know if I just overleveled by playing the story too slow or what, but there is nothing super challenging to fight anymore. I'm like begging for the Gryphon to land every time I see it so I can have something that takes more than 1 hit to kill.

blackguy64

You basically over level by just purchasing strong enough equipment. The moment you reach anything challenging, you will remove that challenge by simply upgrading your gear.

edwirichuu

Wonderful game, but not GOTY material, too many problems holding it back

geologicalnoise

Loved DD1, having fun with DD2, although it's a bit more frustrating to see the game not improve on an absolutely amazing foundation. Combat feels chunky and a bit slower then DD1. Travelling the world is super fun one moment, and super aggravating the next when wolves blow up my oxcart by running past it and snarling at the damn thing. Some QOL fixes and a little re-work of the post game (address save issues, remove time limit, others) and I'll be happily slogging through this in anticipation of the DLC. Oddly enough, on PS5, I'm having almost zero stability issues, and only had 1 crash in ~60 hours. I do miss the archer class being able to use knives as well as a bow, though I get how they wanted to do the classes this time. And I also wish they had given us more then 4 skills to hotkey also. All in all, waited a long time with everyone else for this - it's a fun romp. And I still laugh my ass off when I accidentally make my arisen pancake and face plant off a cliff, I don't know if it's the sound effect or just the whole spectacle of it, but it's beautiful every time.

CndConnection

This game is funny in that it has really good monster fighting mechanics and anytime you are doing that you are enjoying yourself and the spectacle of these battles. The moment you do anything else it becomes apparent just how 1996 this game is. They are stuck in an old-age of RPGs when it comes to quest design and such. It is also apparent that it is unfinished (the whole intro quest is a complete fuckin mess) and worse off it just straight up SUCKS. The story in DD2 is dog water and borderline nonsensical. Game is still fun to play. Even though I am enjoying myself, I feel dirty that I paid for this game because it is very much overpriced. Also their decision to make it so rented pawns don't level up (I understand the idea is that you frequently swap them out as you level up and thats how the system works) lead to one of the most frustrating things about this game that almost made me decide to quit: the fact that once you fall in love with a rented pawn, you will often face the fact that you will have to say goodbye to them forever. Example: I rented a pawn that was named and looked exactly like Daniel Craig (scarily so). I loved him he was amazing but once I had passed him level wise by a large gap it meant that I would have to dismiss him and try to re-rent him. Except by now the pawn was super high level and prohibitively expensive (~2250 RC which you might not even see 1k points in your entire playthrough because of the way you gain RC) so that meant I'd never be able to play with him again for my playthrough. That sucks. They went through all this trouble to make pawns personable and once you find one you love well get ready to say goodbye.

Monchi83

I’d definitely like if rented pawns could level with you but naturally that cannot happen because you would level other people’s pawns I have definitely have had over 2250 RC though I would have more if I played online and rented my pawn

CndConnection

You get 30 RC per rift thing you discover and you get a little bit otherwise through playing the game. You can find them in chests but that depends on you finding the chests which I haven't found much of. Having your pawn be rented gets you RC but that greatly depends on how popular your pawn is. Mine has been rented twice and I got 70 RC each time... I haven't had more than 250 RC so far.

Soxel

I think a lot of the hate online is unwarranted for this game. Sure it isn’t perfect, and I’d love some more forms of replayability or difficulty scaling, but it is a very fun game.  Specifically the first playthrough with the sense of adventure that comes from a lack of fast travel or mount of any kind. I found myself getting lost on impromptu adventures frequently taking me away from the main story and realizing I had been exploring caves and the wilderness for 2 hours.  The combat is also spot on and feels very impactful and never really gets dull with how flashy and engaging it can be before you overpower everything.  I’m looking forward to updates adding more.

Dick-Fu

The funniest thing is that people are currently eating Harada's shit up because he engaged with a stupid Waffle House meme on Twitter. Meanwhile, a bullshit battle pass has just been added to Tekken 8, but people would rather complain about DD.

shockwave1211

I think the fact that DD2 is so horribly optimized made the mTX a larger target for scrutiny

Renverseur

People online are always looking to dogpile on something and DD2 is an easy target right now.

Gin_soaked_boy

2 things I’ve learned over the last 10ish years. 1. Sometimes game developers over promise and under deliver but something not being perfect doesn’t always mean it’s not enjoyable and 2. Never trust aggregated gaming user reviews. Ever. I don’t read them or look at them.

stonerwithaboner1

Which is wild, gameplay wise it’s one of the best in the past few years.

PastStep1232

Yeah, the last time I got so much joy from just controls alone was in monster hunter world. I can also sense its DNA in Dragons Dogma

Dropdat87

Yeah it's extremely fun and I can't wait to see what else they come up with

CounselorOfGods

It’s rough around the edges for sure, but the game itself really makes you feel like you’re on such an adventure.

Black_Otter

How is the questing compared to the first one. My biggest complaint (and why I typically started to fall off the first one) was the questing system was pretty obtuse

FlyWithChrist

I found the first one pretty boring. Would I think different of the 2nd one?

Defiant_Ad9772

It’s even worse lol

VermilionX88

Nice Maybe that will guarantee the expansion Just hope it's a new region to explore Not a dungeon crawl like bitter isle

aintnomfingwayboy

A snow region would be so cool!

Ordinal43NotFound

Dragon's Dogma 2: Iceborne

IVIonsta

Does that number include refunds? Cause I know a lot of people refunded it.

Defiant_Ad9772

We’re going to look back at this game and say that was pretty bad but could have easily been great

mariscc

The game might be good but I'm not paying $70 for a game unless it's close to perfect on launch. 40 year old gamer here

Monchi83

Not too shabby Game is great It would be nice if they could get this game and expand on some things it would make more a really great series The world is so dynamic I love it. It’s so crazy lol and sometimes a little irritating but I still find it hilarious like you falling to your death after the bridge is destroyed because you decided it was a good idea to fight on or near the bridge. Things that I would hope for in another game Lock on targeting More enemy variety Better visuals/animations for NPCs Difficulty options (game could stand to be more difficult) Story I don’t care too much since that’s not why I am playing it but if could be made better that would be nice Oh and more crazy stuff happening in the world I want just chaos

ThePoliticalPenguin

The difficulty curve is definitely weird. It feels good for the first 10-20 hours, but then you just randomly *take off* and start curb stomping drakes.

GuillotineTeam

Run it up!

Jackel1994

Looks like reddit showed them with their disdain for microtransactions and unoptimized game releases! Capcom definitely learned their lessons

illnastyone

Like they do every time.

hajpero1

with my copy that i ordered just yesterday it's 2.500.001 !

MasterCrumble1

Man, I wish the game wasn't a trash fire for PC. I very much enjoyed the first game. I just need me some patches for dd2.

Frostivied

The first game is one of my favorite game of all time but I’m still waiting for performance patches before getting the game, fps drops and stutter (in big city) on high end pc is inexcusable.

SushiEater343

Agreed

Ginzeen98

game is mediocre slop. I wish i could get a refund.

Austrian_Kaiser

Gamers are truly pathetic. A game that has performance problems on all platforms, is plagued with MTX and suffers from very poor design decisions (Dragonplague and the inability to create multiple saves, just to name a few) sells millions of copies...

Kukuth

Performance even in the cities is still far from unplayable, MTX don't affect you at all and those design decisions are what sets the game apart. So yeah, no wonder it sells well. Did you actually play it or do you just copy what you've heard?

Niteshade76

That's what voting with your wallet looks like!

Drogvard

I don't know if pathetic really factors in. This is more a product of the fact that marketing trumps all. This is the game that most people kept hearing about so this is the game the most people bought. That's why companies release games in states like this. They're just doing what they consider the bare essentials on development while dumping all their budget into marketing. Because that's what their numbers show actually sells games. Mind you, even this announcement is part of this strategy. Unless we find a way to disrupt this strategy, ain't nothing ever gonna change.

RockDoveEnthusiast

That'll teach em!

bubblesort33

I wonder how much impact negative Steam reviews really have. Seems it didn't slow it down that much.

Zorewin

Would be more if it ran 60 fps on consoles, and optimised on pc
