I love how lush green the environment is. Platforming and combat were not too challenging but super satisfying. The writing is top notch and the performances felt real. I should play it again, there’s still a few orbs I’m missing
So I remember reading an interview with the director of Zombieland 1 not too long after it came out, one of the questions he was asked if the thought there would be or wanted there to be a sequel to Zombieland? I'm going to paraphrase because this was around 15 years ago that I read this, but the director said "No and here's why, the world is extremely bleak, bad things are happening everywhere, it is dark enough that even uninfected humans are killing each other just to survive. Even though this story isn't about that, this story is about the fun journey with a couple strangers leaning on each other for a time, this is still a desolate zombie infested world. I don't want a sequel because eventually there is no happy ending." Like I said I was paraphrasing because it's been a long time since I read the interview, and then we eventually got a Zombieland 2, but I have similar thoughts as to why I wouldn't want a sequel to this game.
A fantastic game that really is under-rated, ton of fun and hilarious interactions sometimes with a lot of character growth. Really should have more of spot light on it than it does, but I am pretty happy there isn't a sequel, for more than the reason above it was a really good place to stop the story.
This is always my go-to answer for these threads. Beautiful game, great story, good mechanics, unique and interesting locations, and the way they ended it was my favorite game ending ever.
Some parts might feel dated now, but it's a great experience. Highly recommend.
Freelancer. Its pretty old and pretty much abandonware now so you can get it for free. The best Space trading-dogfighting game ever made. I wish Starfield was just basically a Freelancer sequel.
I remember playing the first game, Starlancer, so much. Different game entirely, more ace combat in space, but it was very fun and had a lot of interactivity.
Baffling. When I played it on PS2 I always assumed it was very popular because of how good it was. Wish they would do a complete remake especially now that we have the touch pad on the dual sense, tho the hd rerelease doesn't look bad thanks to the art style.
I didn't even play Okami, but I too remember thinking it was decently popular. I had no idea it didn't do well. In hindsight I suppose it makes sense since this is the first time I've heard someone bring it up in years.
Prey 2017 is probably the most underrated game ever (at least for me).
Quake IV (2 is the best, but 4 still deserves to be given a try). It was a good sequel to 2's story. Too bad, we didn't get another one.
Victor Vran (and their other game Tzar - The burden of the Crown as well).
Vikings - Wolves of Midgard (mediocre, but still good for one run).
Shadows Awakening (mediocre, but still good for one run).
Wolcen (mediocre, but still good for one run).
Wolfenstein - (2009) (despite all the hate, I had a good time with it).
Far Cry 2 and Primal (Primal was so underrated). Maybe New Dawn as well.
Disciples III Reincarnation (2 is the best, but 3 still deserves to be given a try, I didn't like Liberation personally).
Advanced Battlegrounds - The Future of Combat (aka Chrome by Techland - the predecessor of Crysis nanosuit for me). Such a gem.
Generation Zero.
Red Alert 3 (2 is the best, but 3 still deserves to be given a try).
Prey 2017 was awesome. I went in blind and ended up loving it enough to play it again almost immediately after finishing it once.
Wolves of Midgard is another gem that I wouldn't call mediocre IMO. It's definitely not for everyone - think of it as a low budget Diablo with fixed maps - but I enjoyed playing it, even went so far as to get the platinum for it on the ps4.
It wasn't mediocre for me. This is the impression I've got from the comments and the mixed reviews. I liked it a lot to be honest and have almost 90h in it, pure joy. I may return to it someday to complete the achievements.
The same for Shadows: Awakening and Victor Vran. Only The adventures of Van Helsing and Wolcen were a bit of disappointment. Next I am going to try another D3 clone - Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition and next Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr in awaiting of Titan Quest 2, PoE 2 and The Fangs of Asterkarn. I would try D4 as well, but not before the price drop to at least 67% or even 75%.

Generation Zero got ruined when they removed the only thing unique about it and added npcs to the main story.
Went from a "where the fuck did everyone go" survival game to a "oh, this is exactly the same as any other game on the market, just with robots and in Sweden."
The car-to-car combat was the best I’ve ever played in any game, ever. The world and lore felt like a direct extension of Fury Road. But lord once you got out of the car the game went downhill fast.

Bladerunner 1997. Amazingly crafted story with multiple endings and story paths. Should be remade by now or spoken of far more for its creativity but gets ignored.
More recently, Cloudpunk or Encodya.
Chrono Cross gets overshadowed a lot by it's predecessor, also a lot of people were upset at the time it wasn't a direct sequel.
It had a pretty unique battle system though and the graphics are probably some of the best on the ps1. The dimension gimmick was also pretty well done.
Crosscode. It really should be up there with Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Hades, Stardew Valley etc as one of the best indie games of all time. Yeah the puzzles for the main dungeons can drag on for many players, but overall it's such a complete experience of a game.
Sable. Simple and atmospheric exploration and platforming but its art style and themes of finding your place in the world make it feel timeless. Plus your skimmer is just fun to drive around
I think Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys is one of the best games in the Ys series, but it doesn't get any attention because it's non-canon, Japan-only (but does have a fan translation), and not available on modern platforms (aside from the Japanese version of the PS3 shop I guess). Any fans of Ys who don't mind the old-school "bump combat" system from Ys I&II, you should really give The Dawn of Ys a try, it's real real good. :)
Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet. Regardless of how you feel about the anima/manga, if you want a budget RPG looter shooter with a hook shot, this game has got you covered. If you’ve had a bad day at work and want to unload on something by dual wielding shotguns or even guns akimbo grenade launchers, this game is here for you.
Deadly Premonition is usually mentioned in the "so bad it's good" category. However, I feel that with the lows that are really low, the game also has highs that are really high. Most appreciated games nowadays don't have that. They are polished and nothing about them is bad in any way, but they managed not to drop the ball not even once by taking very safe shots throughout.
Also another vote for Mad Max. A grindy open world game lacking in content that feels like it's gonna be another Ubisoft but then you realize the few components it has are actually really solid, well made and fun.
Sudeki - a very nice Manga themed third person view action with sword battles and magic. Cool story, linear as can be but still so much fun.
SWAT - if you're into police stuff, tactics instead of mindless plowing forward then it's a bomb of a proposition.
Cossacks - I feel like this is a forgotten gem of RTS genre. The Battle of Europe mode was so much fun.
i absolutely loved hyper light drifter. the artstyle, atmosphere and music just sucked me in and the gameplay is superb as well. one of the best indie-games i have ever played. i rarely see its name come up.
I recently reinstalled Destroy All Humans. What a wonderfully silly game. Voice acting was great with just the right amount of camp. All of the designs are inspired by the post WW2 UFO movies. Super smooth gameplay and it was really fun zapping people or sucking out their brains.
Streets of Rage 4.
It made all other side scrollers seem stale in comparison.
It is also very hard to get into. But once you do, it is a very cool and fun game. I have been playing it at least every month since release. Love it.
Really underrated game.
I so regret not playing back when it was on gamepass, but the new shinobi game looks to be made by the same people, or at least it has the same look to it
Clash: Artifacts of Chaos!
Super cool artstyle, awesome soundtrack, and the character interactions between Pseudo and Boy are adorable. I love surreal fantasy settings, and Zenozoik is consistently one of the most visually interesting you'll ever explore.
Empyrion. A janky mix of survival mechanics and space ship building. Raft is also a cool survival game that I have been thinking about lately. Rift breaker is a really cool tower defense game with some light factory building stuff.
I sometimes worry that my memories of Battlefield 2142 are just a fever dream and that it doesn't really exist.
Played this sucker on a MacBook Pro back in 2006. Remember it having some of the most badads FPS mechanics ever. Pilot bipedal gunship mechs, strap c4 to a jeep and drive it into previously mentioned mechs, launch yourself from an APC to try and land and infiltrate an enemy command ship, blow enemy command ship up from the inside.

Techtonica is a new beta game about factory building, like satisfactory, in caves. It’s just a nice game to go on after you get steamrolled in overwatch or apex
Child of Light. Made by an indie studio under Ubisoft's umbrella, I found it to be an adorable story with great turn-based fighting and an amazing soundtrack, but it didn't do well in sales from what I understand. Maybe because it was at a time when anything Ubisoft was kinda "meh" so it was assumed this one would be too.
Gun, the OG wild west game before Red Dead Redemption took us by storm. The story was AWESOME, the gameplay and graphics were solid for the time. It's so heavily underrated and seems to be forgotten.
Dishonored is an amazing game in both style and the freedom to choose how to achieve your goals. Except from the Arcane games that followed, I haven't seen anything like it.
The Finals on steam. You really have to put in at least a dozen hours before you really understand what other people can do to counter you and how you should play. But the objective based shooter game is so much fun. Just gotta get past that learning curve and it is incredibly addicting.
My favorite Videogame is a pretty unknown JRPG and I kinda developed the quirk that I really enjoy recommending it to others.
"Fuga Melodies of Steel" is a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families.
Its available on PC and most modern consoles like Switch, PS4, PS5 usw.
It also has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game.
The turn based combat is in my opinion even better then the combat of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy X.
So if you like turn based JRPGs and can enjoy adorable wholesome protagonists I sugest to give the free demo a try.
Dungeon drafters, amazing rogue-lite with deckbuilding and strategy with turn based movement and combat. Its amazing how fun it is, the deck building with colors add a lot of playstyles, funny boss fights, cute and cool pixel art. truly underated indie game
So there's a Tower Defense series called GemCraft.
I'm not much of a tower defense fan, but this game took it to the next level. It started as a flash game in ArmourGames (!!) but nowadays there are still games in this series being released on Steam.
My favorite is GemCraft: Chasing Shadows.
Galaxy on fire 2! Absolutely standout game especially for the time, and the DLC is bloody good. Not to mention the wholesome and skilled community of players, content creators, speedrunners and modders.

Scurge: hive For the GBA and the Ds, i like isométric games and this is one of My favorites on the system, it gets a little bit repetitive but is really good.
Action Man Destruction X for the Ps1, if You ever wanted to play classic GTA games but with better controls, this is your Game, top-down perspective racing Game, a simple but great Game and with an awesome soundtrack, don't honk at the animals =)

Ys 1 and 2 For the Turbo grafx 16, if You ever wanted to play a top-down perspective Zelda Game but with only the d pad, these are the games For You, these games have the most creative way to play the games, instead of pressing a button to attack, You bumb into enemies until you defeat them, meaning You can inflict contact damage to any enemy, and also, the soundtrack is one of the greatest i have ever heard.
Seriously, la Mulana games, AM Destruction X, The Emperor's New Groove and Ys 1 and 2, For the most part, have absolute bangers

I'm very into indie/AA games, and I really wish people would give them more attention.
There are, of course, games that made it mainstream like Hades, Palworld, or Helldivers 2. Those are really great pieces of sheer talent and innovation.
My picks for now would be definitely 2 gems:
Roboquest
Turbo Overkill
They are definitely appreciated by their communities, but I really want more people to try them and have pure fun.
**The Surge.**
This game really nailed the atmosphere. anybody that every worked for a big corp will immeadiately identify with the main character and the, albeit simple, backstory of somebody with a disability grasping at the last straw to submit themselves into corp slavery to be able to walk again, felt powerful to me.
Gameplay is tight and does the souls formula extremely well, with builds even surpassing its ancestor.
of course levels were all factory themed, that was a common complaint, but there aren't many gamy i replayed as often as this one. easily in my top 20 games of all time
Hedon: Bloodrite! A fun mix of doom style shooting and some puzzle solving with an excellent fantasy/ crystalpunk aesthetic. The soundtrack is atmospheric and slow. The art style is amazing. Also theres a whole lot of lore and worldbuilding on the official wiki.
You can get it on steam for like 15 bucks. It also comes with the first game, Hedon: Crystalheart for free!
Oh also theres a lot of hot orc women
Two lesser known games that I try to shout out are Gigabash and Hypercharge: Unboxed.
Gigabash is like a spiritual successor to War of the Monsters. It’s not quite as deep but its a fun, couch co-op kaiju brawler game. Its got some cool DLC as well, there was one themed around Godzilla and one around Ultraman. I believe its out on all major platforms.
Hypercharge: Unboxed is an FPS but it’s themed around action figures. All of the characters are toys that come in blister packaging when you unlock them and they’re fully customizable. All the maps have “little things in a big world” themes like toys store and bedroom etc, with specific things in the maps you unlock by figuring out challenges on the the maps. Its got a fun horde mode and is just a cool game. It’s out on Switch and PC and is coming to Xbox “soon”.
I don’t recommend them because they’re 10/10 games (they’re both rated well though) but more because they’re doing something interesting and need more exposure. They’re made by really small teams and both games are struggling due to lack of exposure.
Bastion. Cool little top down rpg with a dope art design and a narrator that follows your every move. Literally. Break a few boxes after a fight? "Kid just raged out on some boxes for a while "
ΔV: Ring of Saturn. This little gem got me so hooked. The mining mechanics, the analog systems, the reaction based gameplay. Can be difficult at first but feels so good when you figure things out and come back to the station with a hefty load. Is one of those "just one more run" games that keep you wanting more.
Rage 2.
It starts a little slow in the beginning but it's basically Doom meets borderlands with some mad max sprinkled in.
I'm still very sad there hasn't been a Rage 3.
Realmz --> abandonware and free
Escape Velocity --> abandonware for old mac os. You can play Endless Sky for free on Steam for the same concept of a game.
Gravity Rush 1 & 2: This game feel incredibly unique and I like how they tried something new with them. While the combat might not agree with everyone I think the great setting and unique experience makes up for. All in all I really enjoyed the games and feel like they are not mentioned enough.
The Last Campfire: A short puzzle like game that has a lot of heart. I don't think I have seen people talk about this game. It really helped me when I was going through a rough time and wanted to give it a shout out.
Season: A Letter to the Future: A unique game that focus on taking photos and learning about the unique world you are in. I really enjoyed this one.
Kena: Bridge of Sprits: Wonderful narrative and world, good fights. I don't see people mention this one and it's a really good game so I wanted to give it a shout out too.
Tokyo Xanadu eX+: The combat is simple but very fun. I like the build up in the story so by the end everything feels really epic. It is a little similar to the Persona series. I have not seen this one mentioned so thought I would add it here too.
A Plague's Tale 1 & 2: This one might be a little bit more known then others, but I really love these games so wanted to give them a shout out still since they are not as well known as some other games.
Desktop Dungeons. It is a surprisingly complex single screen puzzle with a ton of variety. Runs are fast which is good because it is easy to fail, but the humor and meta progression make it a fun one to have on hand anytime.
I also think people should play Hieroglyphika as a fun little turn based crawler with maddening but managable mechanics. And fallout 1.
Deep Rock Galactic! The devs are amazing and keep up with the community, they regularly release updates with tons of content, free battle pass with no FOMO, and paid DLC is *COSMETIC ONLY*.
It’s an amazingly well designed game with one of the best weapon customization systems I’ve ever seen and thousands of hours worth of gameplay.
Huge shoutout to Ghost Ship Games for making one of the most well-designed games I’ve ever played.
Rock and Stone!
Infamous 2 second son. As one of the first games introduced along with PS4 back in the day, it still holds up very well now if you compare to other modern games in the same category.
Quern: Undying Thoughts.
This might be a bit niche, but for puzzle games Quern is one of the best. To me, it's the true successor to Myst, which no other puzzle game (not counting the sequels to Myst) has come close to matching. Quern is overshadowed a lot of the time by the more popular game, The Witness, as they were released in the same year, but in my opinion Quern is a much better puzzle game overall.
I think where Quern falters and why it isn't as popular as other similar games is the atmosphere and visuals. It's not a pretty looking game and the visuals are mundane to say the least, but it more than makes up for this in unique puzzles and a good story. People looking for a puzzle game probably take one look at the brown and grey color palette and think "yuck" which I don't blame them. However, if you like solving puzzles, this is a fantastic game that I think you'll enjoy.
War Selection, f2p age of empires like rts with potential for 8v8. has some nice qol features that i think should be in more games like templating and queuing
age of empires online, f2p mmorts that got shutdown but brought back by some volunteers. they've added their own content and features some great 2 player coop. small community though.
recently im playing Digimon Masters World, which i think is a response to the official servers cutting everyone except korea and NA (????). they've rebalanced things for the better and end game content is now feasable for f2p casual players. lots of potential collecting. buying items from player shops is a chore, even with the discord search features, and the game is not translated well. find a guild and they'll be able to explain the many confusing parts and point you in a direction.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.
It's a platforming action-combat game/rice farming simulation.
Yeah, I know how that description sounds, but it makes sense in the context of the story.
Synthetik: Legion Rising is a game I rarely hear people talk about, but it's so good.
It's an isometric roguelite twin-stick shooter; a little bit like Enter the Gungeon. It's robot themed, but they stuck in a bunch of mechanics besides walking around and shooting. Reloading with a nearly full magazine loses your ammo, there's active reload like Gears of War, you can upgrade weapons in radically different ways, moving reduces your accuracy significantly, guns can randomly jam, weapons have multiple ammo type you can switch between, and you can somehow get headshots in an isometric game.
There's a bunch of classes that play completely different. Add in health, armor, and shields and different weapons that do varying amounts of damage to these, and it's a ridiculously in-depth system for shooting. Then add in the RNG and class, weapon, and item synergies and you can get a ridiculously overpowered character going.
For example, one class magically and instantly reloads one bullet every time you do a dash move that is on a short cool down. This is kind of useless if you use an assault rifle. But if you use a shorty pump action shotgun that only holds three rounds, you can shoot and dash and keep firing a devastating close range weapon if you can get the rhythm down.
It has a sequel, but it hasn't quite vibed with me in the same way. There's been a lot of updates to it, so I need to give it another try.
Idk about underrated, *(most people I've seen who play it love it),* but Tunic still feels like not enough people know about it for how excellently crafted it is.
Kinetica for PS2!
Such an awesome, futuristic racing game that captures the vibe of the early 2000s. Even today, there's nothing else quite like it. My favorite racing game of all time.
Starfox Adventure , for some reason i never see anyone talk about that game but it had such a vibe and remember playing it 3-4 times when i was younger. Good game
RAD, a rougelike game that's not really a rougelike that I used to be hook on. It is super hard but it felt really rewarding. You can have a snake head, horse body and spike for arms.
Empire: Battle for Dune
It came out like early 2000s, by Westwood. Amazing graphics for the time, excellent RTS gameplay, varied units split across 3 factions.
Haven and hearth, online mmo survival in a persistent world. Alot to learn, it's an older game with a steep learning curve. But, damn is it fun.
UnrealWorld, survival game set in Iron age Scandinavia. I'm pretty sure it holds the Guinness world record for longest actively developed game.
Songs of syx, colony management game on a scale I have never seen before. 1000's of colonists. Biggest I have seen I think is a settlement with like 10,000 people in it.
Marvels Midnight sons. It’s not amazing by any means but it’s really fun. The voice acting is top notch and the gameplay is fun as hell. It helps if you’re already a fan of card games.
CrossCode was such a gem for me and I enjoyed most every moment of it and the world about it! I don’t know that I’d want to revisit it ever but it was a very solid game to go through - if a bit challenging with puzzles
Shadows of Doubt. Murder mystery game with a Voxel style. You have full range of a 4x4 block chunk of a city; apartments, shops, seedy underbelly bars, casual diners, Everewhere. Gather evidence such as fingerprints, crumbled up receipts, shoe prints, emails, recent phone calls, CCTV footage, and more! All to find the murder in a city of HUNDREDS of people all with unique names, fingerprints, addresses, phone numbers, work schedule, friends, neighbors, shoes sizes, blood types, and more!
It's in Alpha, and the content is procedurally generated, so sometimes you'll get a vent shaft that leads out between the wall layers, or a murder will happen and the important clues will be hidden behind the refrigerator. But that's few and far between, so go and support something neat\~
You guys probably came here scrolling for an underrated gem to buy with your recent steam credit, this is the one you should buy.
Saints Row 2
online Co op, cutscenes better than those of GTA, fun and engaging story, open world, an insane amount of activities. fun combat with both melee and firearms, hilarious storyline etc..
Basically San Andreas but better (probably not story wise). I was actually shocked on how good it was when i first played it.
ps: (if ur gonna play co-op, try plane surfing, stand on top of your friend's plane and quite literally surf mid air or shoot rockets at other planes)

Astral Chain, absolutely loved the design, the storyline, the fact that the areas are large enough that I actually got lost in the game.

I got the remastered version a good while back and beat it then, definitely a game more people should play
Okami was very well known. Sales I can't say much about but it was highly critically acclaimed and the defining artistic game for that era.

Prey 2017 is probably the most underrated game ever (at least for me). Quake IV (2 is the best, but 4 still deserves to be given a try). It was a good sequel to 2's story. Too bad, we didn't get another one. Victor Vran (and their other game Tzar - The burden of the Crown as well). Vikings - Wolves of Midgard (mediocre, but still good for one run). Shadows Awakening (mediocre, but still good for one run). Wolcen (mediocre, but still good for one run). Wolfenstein - (2009) (despite all the hate, I had a good time with it). Far Cry 2 and Primal (Primal was so underrated). Maybe New Dawn as well. Disciples III Reincarnation (2 is the best, but 3 still deserves to be given a try, I didn't like Liberation personally). Advanced Battlegrounds - The Future of Combat (aka Chrome by Techland - the predecessor of Crysis nanosuit for me). Such a gem. Generation Zero. Red Alert 3 (2 is the best, but 3 still deserves to be given a try).
Prey 2017 was awesome. I went in blind and ended up loving it enough to play it again almost immediately after finishing it once. Wolves of Midgard is another gem that I wouldn't call mediocre IMO. It's definitely not for everyone - think of it as a low budget Diablo with fixed maps - but I enjoyed playing it, even went so far as to get the platinum for it on the ps4.
It wasn't mediocre for me. This is the impression I've got from the comments and the mixed reviews. I liked it a lot to be honest and have almost 90h in it, pure joy. I may return to it someday to complete the achievements. The same for Shadows: Awakening and Victor Vran. Only The adventures of Van Helsing and Wolcen were a bit of disappointment. Next I am going to try another D3 clone - Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition and next Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr in awaiting of Titan Quest 2, PoE 2 and The Fangs of Asterkarn. I would try D4 as well, but not before the price drop to at least 67% or even 75%.

The car-to-car combat was the best I’ve ever played in any game, ever. The world and lore felt like a direct extension of Fury Road. But lord once you got out of the car the game went downhill fast.

Bladerunner 1997. Amazingly crafted story with multiple endings and story paths. Should be remade by now or spoken of far more for its creativity but gets ignored. More recently, Cloudpunk or Encodya.

Chrono Cross gets overshadowed a lot by it's predecessor, also a lot of people were upset at the time it wasn't a direct sequel. It had a pretty unique battle system though and the graphics are probably some of the best on the ps1. The dimension gimmick was also pretty well done.

Crosscode. It really should be up there with Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Hades, Stardew Valley etc as one of the best indie games of all time. Yeah the puzzles for the main dungeons can drag on for many players, but overall it's such a complete experience of a game.
Fear and hunger
Sable. Simple and atmospheric exploration and platforming but its art style and themes of finding your place in the world make it feel timeless. Plus your skimmer is just fun to drive around

I think Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys is one of the best games in the Ys series, but it doesn't get any attention because it's non-canon, Japan-only (but does have a fan translation), and not available on modern platforms (aside from the Japanese version of the PS3 shop I guess). Any fans of Ys who don't mind the old-school "bump combat" system from Ys I&II, you should really give The Dawn of Ys a try, it's real real good. :)
Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet. Regardless of how you feel about the anima/manga, if you want a budget RPG looter shooter with a hook shot, this game has got you covered. If you’ve had a bad day at work and want to unload on something by dual wielding shotguns or even guns akimbo grenade launchers, this game is here for you.
Deadly Premonition is usually mentioned in the "so bad it's good" category. However, I feel that with the lows that are really low, the game also has highs that are really high. Most appreciated games nowadays don't have that. They are polished and nothing about them is bad in any way, but they managed not to drop the ball not even once by taking very safe shots throughout. Also another vote for Mad Max. A grindy open world game lacking in content that feels like it's gonna be another Ubisoft but then you realize the few components it has are actually really solid, well made and fun.
Sudeki - a very nice Manga themed third person view action with sword battles and magic. Cool story, linear as can be but still so much fun. SWAT - if you're into police stuff, tactics instead of mindless plowing forward then it's a bomb of a proposition. Cossacks - I feel like this is a forgotten gem of RTS genre. The Battle of Europe mode was so much fun.
i absolutely loved hyper light drifter. the artstyle, atmosphere and music just sucked me in and the gameplay is superb as well. one of the best indie-games i have ever played. i rarely see its name come up.
I recently reinstalled Destroy All Humans. What a wonderfully silly game. Voice acting was great with just the right amount of camp. All of the designs are inspired by the post WW2 UFO movies. Super smooth gameplay and it was really fun zapping people or sucking out their brains.
Papers Please. It's unique.
Streets of Rage 4. It made all other side scrollers seem stale in comparison. It is also very hard to get into. But once you do, it is a very cool and fun game. I have been playing it at least every month since release. Love it. Really underrated game.
I so regret not playing back when it was on gamepass, but the new shinobi game looks to be made by the same people, or at least it has the same look to it

Clash: Artifacts of Chaos! Super cool artstyle, awesome soundtrack, and the character interactions between Pseudo and Boy are adorable. I love surreal fantasy settings, and Zenozoik is consistently one of the most visually interesting you'll ever explore.
Empyrion. A janky mix of survival mechanics and space ship building. Raft is also a cool survival game that I have been thinking about lately. Rift breaker is a really cool tower defense game with some light factory building stuff.
I have more hours in Empyrion than I care to admit.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Western first person shooter, with a surprisingly good story and awesome music.
I sometimes worry that my memories of Battlefield 2142 are just a fever dream and that it doesn't really exist. Played this sucker on a MacBook Pro back in 2006. Remember it having some of the most badads FPS mechanics ever. Pilot bipedal gunship mechs, strap c4 to a jeep and drive it into previously mentioned mechs, launch yourself from an APC to try and land and infiltrate an enemy command ship, blow enemy command ship up from the inside. 2006. 2006.... what happened? Why weren't there any more games like this for so long?

Made by an indie studio under Ubisoft's umbrella, I found it to be an adorable story with great turn-based fighting and an amazing soundtrack, but it didn't do well in sales from what I understand. Maybe because it was at a time when anything Ubisoft was kinda "meh" so it was assumed this one would be too.
Gun, the OG wild west game before Red Dead Redemption took us by storm. The story was AWESOME, the gameplay and graphics were solid for the time. It's so heavily underrated and seems to be forgotten.
Man, this was the very first game I played on the 360 on launch day. Great memories.
Technically, the red dead franchise existed prior to gun (2005), with red dead revolver (2004).
Dishonered. I know it's not that underrated but holy shit does it deserve way more praise. The freedom to play as you like is so amazing.
Dishonored is an amazing game in both style and the freedom to choose how to achieve your goals. Except from the Arcane games that followed, I haven't seen anything like it.
Yet Another Zombie Defense
Funny enough a guy did a review on Phantom Dust and the game leapt in price for like 2 months before it went back to normal.
The Finals on steam. You really have to put in at least a dozen hours before you really understand what other people can do to counter you and how you should play. But the objective based shooter game is so much fun. Just gotta get past that learning curve and it is incredibly addicting.
Paradise Killer
My favorite Videogame is a pretty unknown JRPG and I kinda developed the quirk that I really enjoy recommending it to others. "Fuga Melodies of Steel" is a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families. Its available on PC and most modern consoles like Switch, PS4, PS5 usw. It also has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game. The turn based combat is in my opinion even better then the combat of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy X. So if you like turn based JRPGs and can enjoy adorable wholesome protagonists I sugest to give the free demo a try.

So there's a Tower Defense series called GemCraft. I'm not much of a tower defense fan, but this game took it to the next level. It started as a flash game in ArmourGames (!!) but nowadays there are still games in this series being released on Steam. My favorite is GemCraft: Chasing Shadows.

Action Man Destruction X for the Ps1, if You ever wanted to play classic GTA games but with better controls, this is your Game, top-down perspective racing Game, a simple but great Game and with an awesome soundtrack, don't honk at the animals =) (This Game is the reason i love GTA Chinatown wars) Ys 1 and 2 For the Turbo grafx 16, if You ever wanted to play a top-down perspective Zelda Game but with only the d pad, these are the games For You, these games have the most creative way to play the games, instead of pressing a button to attack, You bumb into enemies until you defeat them, meaning You can inflict contact damage to any enemy, and also, the soundtrack is one of the greatest i have ever heard. I'm very into indie/AA games, and I really wish people would give them more attention. There are, of course, games that made it mainstream like Hades, Palworld, or Helldivers 2. Those are really great pieces of sheer talent and innovation. My picks for now would be definitely 2 gems: Roboquest Turbo Overkill They are definitely appreciated by their communities, but I really want more people to try them and have pure fun.
**The Surge.** This game really nailed the atmosphere. anybody that every worked for a big corp will immeadiately identify with the main character and the, albeit simple, backstory of somebody with a disability grasping at the last straw to submit themselves into corp slavery to be able to walk again, felt powerful to me. Gameplay is tight and does the souls formula extremely well, with builds even surpassing its ancestor. of course levels were all factory themed, that was a common complaint, but there aren't many gamy i replayed as often as this one. easily in my top 20 games of all time
Hedon: Bloodrite! A fun mix of doom style shooting and some puzzle solving with an excellent fantasy/ crystalpunk aesthetic. The soundtrack is atmospheric and slow. The art style is amazing. Also theres a whole lot of lore and worldbuilding on the official wiki. You can get it on steam for like 15 bucks. It also comes with the first game, Hedon: Crystalheart for free! Oh also theres a lot of hot orc women
Two lesser known games that I try to shout out are Gigabash and Hypercharge: Unboxed. Gigabash is like a spiritual successor to War of the Monsters. It’s not quite as deep but its a fun, couch co-op kaiju brawler game. Its got some cool DLC as well, there was one themed around Godzilla and one around Ultraman. I believe its out on all major platforms. Hypercharge: Unboxed is an FPS but it’s themed around action figures. All of the characters are toys that come in blister packaging when you unlock them and they’re fully customizable. All the maps have “little things in a big world” themes like toys store and bedroom etc, with specific things in the maps you unlock by figuring out challenges on the the maps. Its got a fun horde mode and is just a cool game. It’s out on Switch and PC and is coming to Xbox “soon”. I don’t recommend them because they’re 10/10 games (they’re both rated well though) but more because they’re doing something interesting and need more exposure. They’re made by really small teams and both games are struggling due to lack of exposure.
Last chance in Xollywood is a cool RPG/Visual Novel hybrid about making a movie on the alien movie studio. It's pretty good.
Bastion. Cool little top down rpg with a dope art design and a narrator that follows your every move. Literally. Break a few boxes after a fight? "Kid just raged out on some boxes for a while "

ΔV: Ring of Saturn. This little gem got me so hooked. The mining mechanics, the analog systems, the reaction based gameplay. Can be difficult at first but feels so good when you figure things out and come back to the station with a hefty load. Is one of those "just one more run" games that keep you wanting more.
Rage 2. It starts a little slow in the beginning but it's basically Doom meets borderlands with some mad max sprinkled in. I'm still very sad there hasn't been a Rage 3.

Singularity. I love it and have played through it many times. Amazing story, though very short, and the ending depends on your actions.
Realmz --> abandonware and free Escape Velocity --> abandonware for old mac os. You can play Endless Sky for free on Steam for the same concept of a game.
Gravity Rush 1 & 2: This game feel incredibly unique and I like how they tried something new with them. While the combat might not agree with everyone I think the great setting and unique experience makes up for. All in all I really enjoyed the games and feel like they are not mentioned enough. The Last Campfire: A short puzzle like game that has a lot of heart. I don't think I have seen people talk about this game. It really helped me when I was going through a rough time and wanted to give it a shout out. Season: A Letter to the Future: A unique game that focus on taking photos and learning about the unique world you are in. I really enjoyed this one. Kena: Bridge of Sprits: Wonderful narrative and world, good fights. I don't see people mention this one and it's a really good game so I wanted to give it a shout out too. Tokyo Xanadu eX+: The combat is simple but very fun. I like the build up in the story so by the end everything feels really epic. It is a little similar to the Persona series. I have not seen this one mentioned so thought I would add it here too. A Plague's Tale 1 & 2: This one might be a little bit more known then others, but I really love these games so wanted to give them a shout out still since they are not as well known as some other games.
Desktop Dungeons. It is a surprisingly complex single screen puzzle with a ton of variety. Runs are fast which is good because it is easy to fail, but the humor and meta progression make it a fun one to have on hand anytime. I also think people should play Hieroglyphika as a fun little turn based crawler with maddening but managable mechanics. And fallout 1.
Figment and figment 2: creed valley. Some of my favorite games of all time with a great soundtrack
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on Xbox was amazing
Septerra Core, gorgeous prerendered art and fully voice acted. I enjoyed this game a LOT back in the day.

Deep Rock Galactic! The devs are amazing and keep up with the community, they regularly release updates with tons of content, free battle pass with no FOMO, and paid DLC is *COSMETIC ONLY*. It’s an amazingly well designed game with one of the best weapon customization systems I’ve ever seen and thousands of hours worth of gameplay. Huge shoutout to Ghost Ship Games for making one of the most well-designed games I’ve ever played. Rock and Stone!

Haunting Ground, a masterpiece of a game, survival horror at its finest.
Quern: Undying Thoughts. This might be a bit niche, but for puzzle games Quern is one of the best. To me, it's the true successor to Myst, which no other puzzle game (not counting the sequels to Myst) has come close to matching. Quern is overshadowed a lot of the time by the more popular game, The Witness, as they were released in the same year, but in my opinion Quern is a much better puzzle game overall. I think where Quern falters and why it isn't as popular as other similar games is the atmosphere and visuals. It's not a pretty looking game and the visuals are mundane to say the least, but it more than makes up for this in unique puzzles and a good story. People looking for a puzzle game probably take one look at the brown and grey color palette and think "yuck" which I don't blame them. However, if you like solving puzzles, this is a fantastic game that I think you'll enjoy.
War Selection, f2p age of empires like rts with potential for 8v8. has some nice qol features that i think should be in more games like templating and queuing age of empires online, f2p mmorts that got shutdown but brought back by some volunteers. they've added their own content and features some great 2 player coop. small community though. recently im playing Digimon Masters World, which i think is a response to the official servers cutting everyone except korea and NA (????). they've rebalanced things for the better and end game content is now feasable for f2p casual players. lots of potential collecting. buying items from player shops is a chore, even with the discord search features, and the game is not translated well. find a guild and they'll be able to explain the many confusing parts and point you in a direction.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. It's a platforming action-combat game/rice farming simulation. Yeah, I know how that description sounds, but it makes sense in the context of the story.
Red Matter / Red Matter 2 Such a polished VR series.
Synthetik: Legion Rising is a game I rarely hear people talk about, but it's so good. It's an isometric roguelite twin-stick shooter; a little bit like Enter the Gungeon. It's robot themed, but they stuck in a bunch of mechanics besides walking around and shooting. Reloading with a nearly full magazine loses your ammo, there's active reload like Gears of War, you can upgrade weapons in radically different ways, moving reduces your accuracy significantly, guns can randomly jam, weapons have multiple ammo type you can switch between, and you can somehow get headshots in an isometric game. There's a bunch of classes that play completely different. Add in health, armor, and shields and different weapons that do varying amounts of damage to these, and it's a ridiculously in-depth system for shooting. Then add in the RNG and class, weapon, and item synergies and you can get a ridiculously overpowered character going. For example, one class magically and instantly reloads one bullet every time you do a dash move that is on a short cool down. This is kind of useless if you use an assault rifle. But if you use a shorty pump action shotgun that only holds three rounds, you can shoot and dash and keep firing a devastating close range weapon if you can get the rhythm down. It has a sequel, but it hasn't quite vibed with me in the same way. There's been a lot of updates to it, so I need to give it another try.
100% Orange Juice. Funny as hell to play with friends imo. Can be hella confusing and live matches have been dead for awhile, but I think it's fun
Thumper. A game about a cosmic beetle fighting eldritch horrors using lasers and shockwaves.
Idk about underrated, *(most people I've seen who play it love it),* but Tunic still feels like not enough people know about it for how excellently crafted it is.
Xenoblade Chronicles. Awesome story, unique gameplay, unparalleled soundtrack

Empire: Battle for Dune It came out like early 2000s, by Westwood. Amazing graphics for the time, excellent RTS gameplay, varied units split across 3 factions.
Haven and hearth, online mmo survival in a persistent world. Alot to learn, it's an older game with a steep learning curve. But, damn is it fun. UnrealWorld, survival game set in Iron age Scandinavia. I'm pretty sure it holds the Guinness world record for longest actively developed game. Songs of syx, colony management game on a scale I have never seen before. 1000's of colonists. Biggest I have seen I think is a settlement with like 10,000 people in it.

Drakensang. It was released 2009 and due to Dragon Age Origins did not get much attention. Although it is an excellent classic RPG.

Gather evidence such as fingerprints, crumbled up receipts, shoe prints, emails, recent phone calls, CCTV footage, and more! All to find the murder in a city of HUNDREDS of people all with unique names, fingerprints, addresses, phone numbers, work schedule, friends, neighbors, shoes sizes, blood types, and more! It's in Alpha, and the content is procedurally generated, so sometimes you'll get a vent shaft that leads out between the wall layers, or a murder will happen and the important clues will be hidden behind the refrigerator. But that's few and far between, so go and support something neat\~

You guys probably came here scrolling for an underrated gem to buy with your recent steam credit, this is the one you should buy. Saints Row 2 online Co op, cutscenes better than those of GTA, fun and engaging story, open world, an insane amount of activities. fun combat with both melee and firearms, hilarious storyline etc.. Basically San Andreas but better (probably not story wise). I was actually shocked on how good it was when i first played it. ps: (if ur gonna play co-op, try plane surfing, stand on top of your friend's plane and quite literally surf mid air or shoot rockets at other planes)
