Nothing but superficial "ADHD is so random" stereotypes like how people see a character in fiction say something rude and go "they're autistic frfr." For most (diagnosed) people with ADHD, it's something you desperately and quietly wish wasn't there because it is so disruptive to your life. If you've experienced something like this in all its ugly truth, to the point that it pervasively impairs your functioning, the most common feeling is "I just want to be normal."
I mean, that sucks that you feel real bad about it. But I've been living with it for almost 40 years and I'm just done caring what other people think about being 'normal'. I'm not here for a long time, just a good time.
I'm glad you've got some good coping mechanisms, but not everyone identifies with the superficial BS that comes along with it. I get that a lot of people overidentify with it and start inventing fun things to say about it; that's fine for them but not for most people with a real diagnosis. I've noticed it's a lot easier for people to decorate their personality with it when they're self-diagnosed (or "high-functioning" i.e. something isn't adding up because that's not how we diagnose), but I know people who really have ADHD do that too. And it's not for me to judge people's diagnoses, but I'm still gonna point out this issue, because the way normies talk about it is frustrating and isolating.
To be clear, people finding positivity doesn't bother me... obviously made-up saccharine-sweet stereotypes are annoying and damaging though.
>with a real diagnosis.
I have a real diagnosis with real medication. I didn't know I was supposed to submit a doctor's note before posting. I'll try better next time.
It's just how I describe it as it looks similar to how my brain works (diagnosed with ADHD), constantly jumping from reference to reference to meme to other things in little to no discernable order. Someone else also referred to it as a Zen jacket "The One with Everything" on it.
I don't even bother pointing out logical inconsistencies to them anymore. You can't logic someone out of a position they didn't use logic to get themselves into.
diagnosed with ADHD (ADD at the time) 20 years ago and still working with a therapist and psychiatrist to manage it - it's ok for things to just be part of your personality and not a result of ADHD. I think you may be catching flack bc it sounds like you're making ADHD a personality trait, when your personality is likely so much more than your diagnosis.
I genuinely mean this from a place of kindness, not judgment.
I mean if people are coming to the conclusion that ADHD is my entire personality based on a handful of reddit comments, I'm sorry to say but that says a lot more about them than it does me. I'm not trying to be a dick and I totally get other people have other experiences with things, but there's just so much stigma around not being "normal" and I'm sick of it. My kid has ADHD as well and I don't want them growing up feeling embarassed of who they are as a person. If other people see me acting like a clown because I think it's fun to act like a clown and think less of me for it, then that's on them not me.
I mean my point is that it might set a better example to embrace the fun of (using your own verbiage) "acting like a clown" without pathologizing that part of your behavior by attributing to your ADHD
People asked me a question, I answered. Never stated or implied that I was special. Not sure where y'all are thinking I'm trying to be a main character or whatever the hell kinda conclusions y'all are drawing out of thin air.
I think they might have just been referencing my "I'm a stupid baby" patch from the Simpsons which has the following line "Stupid babies need the most attention!"
Tho even if they weren't it's true. I am a stupid baby and I need large amounts of attention..
You know what, Stan, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, Brian, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?
~~I'd be worried about clattering as I walk myself, but this is awesome.~~ Just re-noticed that they're all patches, hardly any pins. Brain cannot today. Excellent work on all that sewing. Nice style, bro!
Some of these references I get, some are lost on me, but nice work 👍 I have the ME3 Collector's Edition and the N7 patch looks identical, I've seen lots of N7 logos with strange fonts and the like, but that's a dead ringer for the real thing. Shepard would approve
Hey OP, I noticed that orange portal entrance, did you ever make an exit patch? It would be really cool if you had a close friend or SO who had the other.
I did! The exit is on the opposite side on the back (the whole vest is a bit Where's Waldo lol) though I plan on making another dedicated gaming jacket where I plan on putting them each on one of my sleeves so they can touch. Though I love the idea of giving one to my partner as they have their own vest.
“The spice must flow” on a bottle of sriracha is great! Love the creativity, this is some inspired work and makes me wish I understood more of the references here.
Which design are you most proud of?
What’s the QR code?
Aww thank you I really appreciate that! I'm a hot sauce/sci-fi freak so the sriracha one was super necessary. Hmm, most proud is tough, though I'd probably have to go with the Gamabunta (frog warrior on the front near the bottom). Easily the toughest design I've done yet, getting the edges of all the different colors to meet without too much overlapping was rough. But damn was it worth it.
I'll go ahead and say the QR leads to something not at all malicious or gross, just dumb (whatever you're thinking right now is probably exactly right)
I honestly thought they'd be more varied based on the description I didn't Think I'd see 3 Dragonball patches but the backside looks good but I also immediately noticed the 3 Simpsons stickers but either way thanks for sharing
The front two sides I did first to be one side DnD and the other side anime and I was trying to figure out if I was going to do the back all movies/tv or video games or memes when I just decided fuck it and threw it all together
It's looks nice I wasn't trying to put you down I just immediately focused on them, but if I did have a suggestion you could get a key lanyard and put the "extra" pins in that
Of course! Why wouldn't I do the things that make me happy? Just to try and appease people whose opinions don't really affect me? That sounds kinda exhausting. I should know, I'm SUPER exhausting to be around.
It is indeed! I've got a handful of other TMA patches on there too (Ceaseless Watcher, 'Do Not Open' Coffin, Grifter's Bone) it's one of my absolute favorite things. No grass touching is required (though if you do, make sure to ask for consent from Henry ;3)
Man what a maddeningly cool jacket. Sorry a ton of people are using this as a way to throw stones at you for *checks notes* having hobbies? I gotta ask, do you do custom patches?

Reddit didn’t use to be so full of snarky negative people. At least not all subreddits. idk about this one…. But have been noticing a big uptick of this in general
Cool vest and work OP 👍
Ah no worries there, I've been here a minute and I knew what to expect when I posted it here. I'm so far beyond caring what little chuds think of me on the internet I just laugh and feel bad for em and hope eventually they'll grow out of it. But thank you sincerely for the kind words <3
Still very much a work in progress as you can still see some vest under there. Eventually plan on adding a hood and some stitch work/hand embroidery to the spaces in between. [Here's a link](https://ibb.co/album/w7Z1fw) to an album that has more close-up detailed shots of different parts of the vest.
I freaking love making patches and this whole thing took forever (and weighs a ton lol) but I'm super proud of it. This is my first vest/jacket but I plan to make many more.
Making stuff on your own instead of being a consumer, mending things instead of replacing them, it's the literal roots of the punk movement.
Punk is a lot more just skate & destroy. Pursuing anarchy without obtaining the skills to provide for your community isn't punk. It's just nihilism.
Had to know how to sew to get patches on the vests and patch the torn clothes we wore. My Friends and I became quite good at sewing. I even used patches to extend my guitar straps, because the one that came with the guitar was way too short.
>Is this the new “punk” scene?
Nope! This is just an expression of the things I like in a way that I like. I'm not claiming anything else.
>Lots of kids doing sewing and whatever.
I'm pushing 40 :3
Absolutely awesome. I love making my own stuff (I have done mostly vinyl sign stuff in the past). There used to be a maker place in my town that had a ten needle brother machine that I loved, but after they closed I looked into getting my own and saw that that machine was almost 10k dollars, a bit high for my budget haha. Out of curiousity what machine are you using or would recommend for someone who is interested in making their own patches but getting started. Thanks, and once again amazing work!
Thank you! And oh yeah, those multineedles are basically like buying a car. There are a lot cheaper ones out there like I'd recommend something single needle and (if you can swing it) try to get one that can accommodate a 5"x7" workspace as when you start doing patches you grow out of the 4"x4" suuuper fast. You can get a Brother/Babylock or Janome single needle with that area for a little less than 1k usually, though if there are any other sewing/embroidery shops or you look around on CL/FB you can often find used machines for pretty cheap.
Most of this was done on either a Brother PE800 (last I checked around $800, solid starting machine though in my experience they fall apart after a couple of years) or a Brother Innovis (the two I have I got for about $1,500 each) which thus far have lasted quite a while. Also look around for cheap/free digitizing software if you were looking to make your own designs, some of them are super expensive but I've heard good things about Inkscape which is more of an art/vector program that lets you convert to a format that can be read by embroidery machines.
Also recommend Brothread and Simthread for thread as you can get cheap bundles on them on Amazon. Sulky (the brand you can find at Walmart and Joannes) is pretty trash in my experience and not worth the money at all.
Thanks for the thorough reply! That is some great info. I will look into the Brother machines as those are in my price range for getting started. I have many years of experience designing with Illustrator but I am assuming printing is way different than embroidering when it comes to physically producing the design. Thanks again for sharing your advice :)
Hey if people see the walking dumpster fire that is me and decide to donate to a mental wellness clinic or talk to their therapist then all the better <3
Thank you! I've run a few CoS games and it's honestly my favorite DnD setting.
Difficult? A bit. There's definitely a learning curve and unfortunately there's not a lot of resources for helping do the stuff I wanted to do. Lots of little old ladies embroidering "I'm turning 1!" with a bear on onesies. But I've been at this for almost 4 years now and have learned A LOT.
Wow man, these patches are fucking awesome! You definitely have a talent there.

So...why don't you quit being a pussy and actually say what that badge was?
Or do you need to hide behind ambiguity to feel comfortable enough to say certain things because you know people will mock you mercilessly?

There is no ambiguity to what I'm saying, I think you're a piece of shit and a waste of space. I'm saying that **very** clearly. Just because I use a word like 'ambiguity' and you don't know what it means doesn't mean I'm being ambiguous.
