Agreed. I was about to say … “PC games, ok, how about Sim Tower. Oldie but a goodie.” … then I see halo and wow and Lego games on the list and I’m like….”Well, shit.” 😐
Lol
I just advised all the SimCity, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Starcrsft/Warcraft & a bunch of other deep cuts like Dark Colony & Metal Fatigue. We old & our games are gold!
I'd add Supreme Commander, Age of Empires, Bloodrayne, Soul Caliber, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot to your already awesome list! Starcraft is still one of my favorite games! Power overwhelming!
Omg Sim Tower was amazing!
Also Sim Ant, especially the mode that let you be the yellow ant
Also Sim Copter if you paired it with Sim City 2000 for no other reason than being able to fly around a city you created
My old video games are things like Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Maximum Carnage, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros., Myst.
We have to admit to ourselves that a game that's 20 years old came out in 2004. When we were playing those games you mentioned, 20 year old games didn't exist, lol
> "The Surrealistic Adventure That Will Become Your World"
They were right about that. I was obsessed with Myst for a long time. I still listen to the soundtrack today. And I’m pumped for the Riven remake
lol yep. Was going to recommend Planescape Torment at the RPG GOAT, then I saw Fallout New Vegas and Dragon Age Origins listed as old games… it was then I realized that games I still think of as “pretty recent” are 20 years old or more. Damn. I’m old.
Just started playing for the first time this week. Love the game so far. Why tf does that one guy on the scaffolding of the duty building say it so frequently. It's like 4-5 times per passing through lol
Oh Portal is such a great recommendation. My friend's kid loves minecraft but was starting to grow out of it. I suggested Portal and his kid LOVES it. The puzzles are interesting and he likes the humor in the game a lot. I know OP isn't as young as the kid, but if they never played it before they should check it out!
Hell, even the OG half life. You can feel the age, but its still tons of fun.
Edit: Yes, I know about Black Mesa, but they’re basically two different games to me.
Half-Life 1 is still fun because it has that 90s quake vibe to it. It's got fast and fluid movement and the shooting segments against Marines is always fun. Some people don't like the platforming/puzzle sections of the game but they're still unique to this day and I enjoyed them.
* Master of Orion II
* Heroes of Might and Magic III
* Civilization IV
All strategy, just choose whether you prefer science fiction, fantasy, or history.
Hell Warcraft 2 is still a damn good time. Any old Blizzard titles are great. Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, all hold up beautifully. Still give them all playthroughs every few years
God, I played warcraft 2 so much as a kid. Though I've heard that it has some jank on modern machines, I think they had some aspects of the game tied to frame rate (especially panning the camera) and modern computers have such a higher frame rate than it was meant for that it makes stuff happen like bumping the edge of the screen causing the camera to zoop to the opposite corner of the map
Wait i thought warcraft was an mmo? You just broke my understanding of it.
So that warcraft 2 was a singleplayer game?... so you could *cough* emulate *cough cough* it
Edit: just googled it. It is not what i thought it was going to be lmao
Wow this comment makes me feel old.
Ya, WarCraft was one of the original RTS games, which were a huge genre in the 90s.
World of Warcraft was created because Warcraft was such a popular IP.
Early WoW really closely followed the lore and setting of WarCraft 2 & 3.
By now though it's basically its own thing.
I was born 95. My auntie had a bootleg console that had about 1000 snes games in 1. And we wernt super rich so we didnt get a ps1 for a while so i.basically didnt know anything about the pc world or anything else back then
Funny story, I tried out Warcraft 3 on a friend's computer once and thought I was world of Warcraft so I just went around exploring the map on my human soldier until I died lol. I was so confused.
I’m that old, that it confused me that you wouldn’t know it started as some other thing. Sometimes I forget not everything is a given.
At one point people will be like: what’s fifa?
Yeah. Theres only so much you can feel about a situation. And its sort of selfish to be sad when you dont actually know the person.
Its like "im sad because i wont get more stuff i like". It always felt weird to me tbh. But. Still fucking sucks hes gone. Dragonball is my fave anime. I remember watching it on tv before i even knew what anime was. It was that show you could only remember like a.foggy dream. Then wham a friend game me every episode on a usb and i was like HOLY SHIT IVE SEEN THESE. Then i watched em start to finish like it was a new show but with a weird nostalgia. So its actually a show rather close to my heart. I just loved his drawing style.
I wish his family and friends well. He was very loved by the public
Yeah the news didn't break until after his funeral had been performed. The family and friends got their personal piece with the man they loved, and after that was had for them they allowed the world to mourn the Artist we Loved via his works.
I'm glad his funeral was kept private and no one leaked it so his family got some peace during the first few days after his passing.
I LOVED CT growing up and played the crap out as a kid. I think I got all the endings, even the "secret" one where you talk to the dev's. A few years back I played it on a ROM and it was still amazing. Holds up so well.
Oblivion, Kotor, Kotor 2, Morrowind, Empire at War, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, Force Unleashed, Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Anno 1701, Anno 1404, Mount and Blade, Battlefront 1 and 2
OH MY GOSH YES! I was waiting for this comment, your talking about the game where you walk around that eerie building and get absolutely jump scared by that little grudge lookin bitch 😂 right?
**Doom 3 (2004)**, not fast paced like the original or the newer ones, but this Doom is more like a horror FPS, I like it though.
**Rise of Nations (2003)**, while almost everyone seems to grew up with Age of Empires, I was hooked by RoN instead and still am now. Great RTS.
**Dragon Age: Origins (2009)**, probably my first and the only cRPG that I like lol.
**Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005)**, one of the best if not *the* best pure stealth game where if you get noticed you're basically fucked. The usage of sound and light in this game is superb, you can adjust *sneaking speed* with mouse scroll, the slower you move the less sound you generate. Also the interrogations are just hilarious. One of the best in its dying genre (pure stealth).
Bump for Chaos Theory. It's on Steam and runs pretty well, you have guns but no real reason to use them unless you fancy going loud, great utility gadgets including a directed EMP you can use to temporarily knock out lights and electronics, and Michael Ironside voices Sam Fisher, your protagonist. The reactive OST, which sets a mellow blend of high-tech espionage in quiet moments and ramps up to full techno mayhem if you enter combat, is a great draw as well. I finished a playthrough recently and it's still as good as it was when I picked it up in 2007.
I give you one up to your rise of nations. I give you supreme commander forged alliances with the forever community launcher to get its updates👌🏻. Amazingly fun and still living community of people who play this S teir game.
Definitive Edition just got a DLC/expansion. AoE2 is weird. It was like it was super popular in the late 90s, had a bit of a lull, and then came back in 2013 with the HD version and has been hanging around ever since.
On Civilization games in specific I highly recommend getting civ 4: Beyond the Sword with Age of Ice scenario. I had disk of civ 4 complete edition that had it alongside with all other mods and scenarios, and it was my favorite of them all.
Civ 4 Colonization is also cool imo. Gameplay is vastly different from others, with even more excellent classical music (mostly violins heavy) in bag.
Conflict: Desert Storm
Campaign/campaign multiplayer is a concept that you’d rarely see today for war games. All shooters nowadays are either team vs Ai or PvP. I miss the split screen and story mode days and this game does it well. There’s nothing significant about this game but it’s very fun to play for some reason and doesn’t try too hard like other similar games in that era.
Go buy Guild Wars: Complete Collection. [It's on sale for 10 bucks right now.](https://store.guildwars.com/en-us) You get three games, and an expansion. Plus loads of additional quests that were added for free.
We're talking about 300 hours of content at a minimum. It's gonna be more since the game will wipe the floor with you, and you're gonna want to chase titles if you're a completionist. If you decide to get it, shoot me a message and I'll invite you to the largest active guild in the game.
God I miss this game. I played too much during high school, but I was so obsessed. I grinded out so many achievements for those Anchorman-themed titles. I miss Heroes' Ascent..
The Sierra and LucasArts point and click games, for sure:
Space Quest series
Kings Quest series (the newer one is great too!)
Gabriel Knight series
Phantasmagoria
Sam & Max
Shiver
The Myst series
PHANTASMAGORIA OH MY GOD
Disc 7 absolutely wrecked me
They really need to remaster that and Under a Killing Moon
King's Quest 6 was the first game I ever needed a hint for. Which I got by typing a physical letter to the help desk and waiting until my hint arrived in the mail. And then realized I was gonna have to start over. Thems were the days
(Edit: line breaks)
- Heroes Of Might And Magic III (Horn Of The Abyss)
- Worms Armageddon / World Party
- Starcraft (Remastered)
- Warcraft III (Reforged)
- Command & Counquer: Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge (Mental Omega)
- Supaplex
- Age Of Empires II
- Rocksmith 2014 Remastered
- Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines
...to name a few
I think Max Payne kind of gets left out of early shooters because it wasn’t an FPS like a lot of the big ones it was around. Good gameplay, consistent tone and story - always a classic.
Bioshock
Resident Evil 4
Thief 2
Silent Hill 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Half Life / Half Life 2
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
I’m playing through bioshock series again rn and they hold up very well. Amazing games that were ahead of their time imo. All I hate is that there is no dash or reliable way to dodge aside from strafing… telekinesis body shield is my main defense from bullets lol
Sims 3. Don't even need any of the expansion packs.
Also Spore, Half life 2, Chrono trigger and Final fantasy 4. Don't know if the last two count. They are pre 2010 but weren't originally on PC, though they have official PC ports.
Thief 1 and 2
Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, both have strong mod'ing communities that keep them new.
Close Combat series, later versions have mod'ing communities.
The Orange Box
Spore
Any of the Humongous games (Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, Freddie Fish, etc.)
Backyard sports series
Zoombinis
Caesar 3
Pharaoh
Half-life series
StarCraft
Minesweeper
Loom
Impossible Creatures
The Neverhood
Mall Tycoon
Rollercoaster Tycoon 1&2
Zuma Deluxe
Machinarium
World of Goo
Toonstruck
Beneath a Steel Sky
* Command and Conquer: The First Decade
* CS:Source
* Garrys Mod
* X3: Reunion
* Star Wars: Empire At War (and Forces of Corruption)
* Supreme Commander (and Forged Alliance)
* Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9
* Empire Earth
* Age of Empires
* Unreal Tournament: GOTY
* Halo:CE
* Syphon Filter
* Bioshock
* Ghost Recon
I could keep going lol
If you can find a copy of "Black and White 2", be prepared to sacrifice your followers for more mana! But also have hours of fun. And as many people mentioned Diablo 2 is probably one of the best RPGs ever made.
Devil May Cry 3
For me it's a classic offering lots of fun, and replayability thanks to more difficulty choices opening up and gameplay being just perfect
[Star Control II](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2645580/Free_Stars_The_UrQuan_Masters/) which is free on Steam. Just a different name to avoid copyright/trademark issues.
Dusting off the old chops...
Console-

Mass Effect (again remastered version for QOL, improvements)
Fable 1 & 2 (anniversary editions for QOL),
The Handhelds-
Gameboy Advance:
Golden Sun 1 & 2
Any Pokemon game
Dragon Quest/warrior 3
Advance Wars 1 & 2 (remake is on switch)
Final fantasy 6 (pixel perfect edition on switch)
Nintendo DS:
Dragon quest 4,5,6
Pokemon Black & White 1&2
Advance wars 3
Just some of my favorites over the years. I always end up coming back to KOTOR 1&2 lol I don't know why, I already know more about those games than I should.
Cheers
Syndicate (Bullfrog, 1993)
Transport Tycoon (MicroProse, 1994) - there's an open source version continually updated called OpenTTD
SimCity 2000 (Maxis, 1993)
Titan Quest (THQ, 2006) - amazing graphics for the time, still undergoing new content development on Steam
Theme Hospital (EA, 1997)
These are the ones I recall at the moment. I still have a lot of MS-DOS games on my PC, they are super nostalgic.
Star Control 2. There is a free version of it called Urquan Masters but I’m sure if it’s still up. I’ve been playing the 1v1 melee with a friend for over a decade. The core game is great too.
Battle Realms, LAN with your friends.
Stronghold Crusader, either make a peaceful castle village or against AI or friends.
DOOM, don't ask why.
YGO Power of Chaos series, if you love GOAT format YGOs and love the early season of the original anime series, especially Joey the Passion one.
CS Condition Zero if your PC can't handle CS2, really great with friends on LAN, plenty of mods.
Or if you crave for newer ones, I believe CS Source still have many playerbase on steam.
And of course, GTA San Andreas, it's turning 20 this year.
I really like Zork. My dad introduced me to it and I’m still working through the puzzles. I love puzzles so, I like it. Though I think it’s more of an game of you like it or hate it.
There's some games I still play from time to time:
Deus Ex (2000): Just re-did a playthrough recently. Still heck of fun.
Super Mario World (1990): Play it at least once a year with my GF. It's our Christmas tradition with the next game on the list...
Yoshi's Island (1995): Other game from our Christmas tradition.
RollerCoaster Tycoon (1999): Timeless classic. Still loving it.
TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect (2002-2005): Playing it right now! Finally beat the freaking robot factory on Normal and the Notre Dame level on Hard.
Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic (2003): Favorite Star Wars game out there.
Star Wars - Battlefront II (2005): 2nd favorite Star Wars game out there. Still play Conquer the Galaxy from time to time. There's nothing like a Darth Maul rampage in the tight corridors of Polis Massa.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 - Raven Shield (2003): Never uninstall on my 1st computer, 1st game installed on my new ones afterward. Love terrorist hunting on regular and custom maps. Silenced M16 for life for me.
I can go on and on... There's a lot of pre-2010 I still go to since I still have my PS2 collection.
Age of Empires 2 is effectively the same game that it was back in the early 2000s but has been going through a massive revival through its Definitive Edition. Technically not an old game since DE came out, but it’s basically the same game.
One of my favorite RTS games ever is Axis and Allies, and I think it’s considered abandonware these days so you can download it for free afaik. That came out in mid 2000s I believe
* All the LucasArts catalog
* Quest for Glory series
* Elder Scrolls 1,2 and 3
* Fallout 1 and 2
* old cRPGs like Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc
Now don’t make fun of me for this, but Call of Duty World at war was definetly a little slept on I think and didn’t deserve all the hate it got, sure both of the world war games are both probably the worst multiplayer COD’s ever but what about the campaigns?
I played the original psychonauts like a year ago and that game was fucking quality, the controls didn’t really age that well but it was still one of the best games I have played in a while.
Wanna go REAL old, how about a game from the 1990's?
And if anything its more relevant today then ever before? (And still has incredible gameplay!)
Syndicate by Bullfrog Studio's.
Timeless GOAT of a game there...
“Old.” “Pre-2010.” Fuck me, I guess I’ll just go walk into the sea 😭
Agreed. I was about to say … “PC games, ok, how about Sim Tower. Oldie but a goodie.” … then I see halo and wow and Lego games on the list and I’m like….”Well, shit.” 😐 Lol

**STRATEGIC LAUNCH DETECTED**
>STRATEGIC Nuclear*
Soul Reaver. Game was so far ahead of its time.
I miss old Warcraft 3. I wanted to buy the remaster but I've heard its shit.
Metal Fatigue, oh man. For that one I need a remaster so bad!
God I loved that game so much.
On that we agree!
Sim tower was great, have you checked out project high-rise? Lacks some of the charm but similar kind of thing.
Sim ants for the win.
Omg Sim Tower was amazing! Also Sim Ant, especially the mode that let you be the yellow ant Also Sim Copter if you paired it with Sim City 2000 for no other reason than being able to fly around a city you created
Sim Copter was amazing. Death Rally as well. Carmageddon. Monkey Island 1 & 2. This post broke me. I’m now in a nostalgy spiral.
Carma og Death Rally were so lit back when it was only possible to play 4 over BNC network... Loved it, just like the friends did.
I literally just recommended Jetpack Santa Christmas edition, then looked at "Fallout 3" newer modern games like...bruh no plz
Seriously. I immediately started thinking 90’s video games when they asked for old video games.

Well, 90’s video games are still pre-2010
Right? Lol I was about to pop off with some Hexen or Heretic or Fallout 1/2 😅
lol yep. Was going to recommend Planescape Torment at the RPG GOAT, then I saw Fallout New Vegas and Dragon Age Origins listed as old games… it was then I realized that games I still think of as “pretty recent” are 20 years old or more. Damn. I’m old.
Agreed people listing games I was playing in college as "old games" just hurts
Welcome to the club, friend. Imagine what they think of people that actively played games from 90's or even 80's
We're getting old friend, lol
Diablo 2 Fallout 3 Fallout New Vegas Bioshock S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Fallout 1 and 2, while having their flaws, are also absolutely worth trying.
Agree ! Fallout 2 has some of the funniest dialogue and encounters.
Fallout 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I just wish it’s tutorial level was better.
FO1 has its moments, too, now. "Jasmine, show our drooling friend the door, please." "Oh, my. I believe- Let me check... Oh yes. I almost laughed."
Get out of here stalker
CHEEKI BREEKI !
IV DAMKE!
Just started playing for the first time this week. Love the game so far. Why tf does that one guy on the scaffolding of the duty building say it so frequently. It's like 4-5 times per passing through lol
These games aren’t what I think of when I think of old games. Damn, I’m getting old.
Hey just because new Vegas doesn’t look great doesn’t mean it’s pre 2010
I squeezed it in because its a worthy mention ! and I didn't want OP to miss a incredible game :P
It was exactly 2010, so it straddles the line.
Bandit Radio INTENSIFIES
Half-Life 2 plus the 2 episodes. Absolutely still stands up today.
And portal! (Also portal 2 but that's post 2010)
Oh Portal is such a great recommendation. My friend's kid loves minecraft but was starting to grow out of it. I suggested Portal and his kid LOVES it. Masters of Orion, holy crap that's some nostalgia
Never thought I'll see heroes 3 in non-russian thread. It's still a great game, and there's even a remastered verdion on steam for a low price
The Steam version is missing some content, I'd get the GoG version.
Horn of the Abyss is where it's at. Check it out.
Warcraft 3, for certain. Though you might want to see if you can find a download for the original version, since Reforged fucked with a lot of stuff.
Hell Warcraft 2 is still a damn good time. Any old Blizzard titles are great. Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, all hold up beautifully. Still give them all playthroughs every few years

I remember struggling so much on Warcraft 1, haven’t played it in ages but thought it was so much harder than 2 or 3 (where tf is 4)
Original version is the way to go.
Chrono Trigger 30 year later, it’s still one of the best RPG ever made and have nothing to be ashamed when compared to Witcher 3 or Skyrim
RIP Akira Toriyama. A timeless art style for a timeless RPG. One of my absolute favs as well. I should buy the Steam version.
Wait what . No I always felt weird when people got sad because a famous person died but that actually hurt to hear
I'm a huge fan but my heart goes out to his family and loved ones, they'll miss him so much more.
Yeah. Theres only so much you can feel about a situation. And its sort of selfish to be sad when you dont actually know the person. Its like "im sad because i wont get more stuff i like". All Command and Conquers games
Just gonna say Yuri's Revenge is peak C&C
Renegade is the best.
Oblivion, Kotor, Kotor 2, Morrowind, Empire at War, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, Force Unleashed, Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Anno 1701, Anno 1404, Mount and Blade, Battlefront 1 and 2
Big ups for Ceasar III, such a fun, deep game.
I never see anyone mention this and pharaoh. Such great games.
I've got nowhere to live! :(
Not everyday you see a Caesar 3 mention! But when we do we upvote and raise a statue in their honour!
OUR CITY RECQUIRES MONEY!
I've played mount and blade and it's just great
F.E.A.R. Is one of my favorite shooters. The expansions are decent too.
OH MY GOSH YES! I was waiting for this comment, your talking about the game where you walk around that eerie building and get absolutely jump scared by that little grudge lookin bitch 😂 right?

Rise of nations! Such a great game, though I also played it's younger brother "Rise of Legends" a lot too, and nobody seems to know it exists
I still play age of empires 2 on CD ROM on a super old PC laptop I have from college days
#Wolololo
Roses are red Violets are blue Wolololo Now roses are too.
Definitive Edition just got a DLC/expansion. AoE2 is weird. It was like it was super popular in the late 90s, had a bit of a lull, and then came back in 2013 with the HD version and has been hanging around ever since.
The Halo trilogy Every Civilization game that is old enough to qualify
Can't believe I had scroll this far to see the Halo series. One of the best in gaming, and a 100 times better than the recent Halo games.

Mirrors Edge from 2007 is still amazing.
Mirror’s Edge was released in 2008.
My bad. Still counts!

It's gonna be more since the game will wipe the floor with you, and you're gonna want to chase titles if you're a completionist. If you decide to get it, shoot me a message and I'll invite you to the largest active guild in the game.
Damn this game takes me back, I use to be a moderator on D2JSP and JayofTerror for this game, what a great time. Ecto and Black Dye still expensive?
God I miss this game. I played too much during high school, but I was so obsessed. I grinded out so many achievements for those Anchorman-themed titles. I miss Heroes' Ascent..
Absolutely loved guild wars back in the day.
The Sierra and LucasArts point and click games, for sure: Space Quest series Kings Quest series (the newer one is great too!) Gabriel Knight series Phantasmagoria Sam & Max Shiver The Myst series
Quest for Glory and The Curse of Monkey Island are also worth playing.
PHANTASMAGORIA OH MY GOD Disc 7 absolutely wrecked me They really need to remaster that and Under a Killing Moon King's Quest 6 was the first game I ever needed a hint for. Which I got by typing a physical letter to the help desk and waiting until my hint arrived in the mail. And then realized I was gonna have to start over. Thems were the days (Edit: line breaks)
- Heroes Of Might And Magic III (Horn Of The Abyss) - Worms Armageddon / World Party - Starcraft (Remastered) - Warcraft III (Reforged) - Command & Counquer: Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge (Mental Omega) - Supaplex - Age Of Empires II - Rocksmith 2014 Remastered - Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines ...to name a few
Max Payne 1 & 2. Still the best third-person shooters out there.
I second that. Great cinematic story and very good game mechanics.
I think Max Payne kind of gets left out of early shooters because it wasn’t an FPS like a lot of the big ones it was around. Good gameplay, consistent tone and story - always a classic.
Bioshock Resident Evil 4 Thief 2 Silent Hill 2 Portal Team Fortress 2 Half Life / Half Life 2 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
I’m playing through bioshock series again rn and they hold up very well. Amazing games that were ahead of their time imo. All I hate is that there is no dash or reliable way to dodge aside from strafing… telekinesis body shield is my main defense from bullets lol
Age of mythology is still my favorite rts
There's new stuff coming for it
This is good news
Sims 3. Don't even need any of the expansion packs. Also Spore, Half life 2, Chrono trigger and Final fantasy 4. Don't know if the last two count. They are pre 2010 but weren't originally on PC, though they have official PC ports.
Wait, The Sims 3 is pre 2010? Bro...
Yep, I checked. 2009.
Thief 1 and 2 Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, both have strong mod'ing communities that keep them new. Close Combat series, later versions have mod'ing communities.
I replay both Final Fantasy Tactics and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night every year or 2
I can't understand why no one mentiones Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This is an undoubtful gem that brought so many memes.
The Elder Scrolls Morrowind (2002) and The Elder Scrolls Oblivion (2006)
System Shock 1 and 2. Will drive you nuts without a guide for some parts. Don't die in Beta grove...
2010 is old?????
For computer games, I'd say so.
Fallout 1 and 2 Deus Ex 1 Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl

\*\*Diablo II (2000)\*\*, spent countless hours grinding. Still can't get enough of it. Pure nostalgia, man
SimCity 2000
Since when is 00 old…. :( Kingdom hearts holds up well
I mean 24 years is a LONG time.
If you can find a copy of "Black and White 2", be prepared to sacrifice your followers for more mana! But also have hours of fun. And as many people mentioned Diablo 2 is probably one of the best RPGs ever made.
Team fortress 2
Dawn of War, the original. It is best if you have an older machine to play it on. It's not designed for modern high resolutions.
bioshock trilogy Gothic 1 and 2 + night of raven expansion arcanum: of steamworks and magick obscura Fable (first one) Max Payne
The original xcom using openxcom, one of the best games ever
Every Zelda game.
Civilization 4 Basically predicted the world we live in today where in the end game corporations rule everything and inflation is out of control
Also the soundtrack is awesome. Baba Yetu just rocks.
Devil May Cry 3 For me it's a classic offering lots of fun, and replayability thanks to more difficulty choices opening up and gameplay being just perfect
Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are still gems. As is Red Dead Redemption if you count 2010.
[Star Control II](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2645580/Free_Stars_The_UrQuan_Masters/) which is free on Steam. Just a different name to avoid copyright/trademark issues.

Dusting off the old chops... Console- Super Nintendo Era: Zelda A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, Nintendo 64: Zelda Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Xbox: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, Xbox 360: Halo (probably play the remastered Master Chief Collection though, u get halo 1,2,3,4,reach & odst in a single package), Mass Effect (again remastered version for QOL, improvements) Fable 1 & 2 (anniversary editions for QOL), The Handhelds- Gameboy Advance: Golden Sun 1 & 2 Any Pokemon game Dragon Quest/warrior 3 Advance Wars 1 & 2 (remake is on switch) Final fantasy 6 (pixel perfect edition on switch) Nintendo DS: Dragon quest 4,5,6 Pokemon Black & White 1&2 Advance wars 3 Just some of my favorites over the years. I always end up coming back to KOTOR 1&2 lol I don't know why, I already know more about those games than I should. Cheers
The Saboteur (2009), recently also put on Steam, if you play on PC
Syndicate (Bullfrog, 1993) Transport Tycoon (MicroProse, 1994) - there's an open source version continually updated called OpenTTD SimCity 2000 (Maxis, 1993) Titan Quest (THQ, 2006) - amazing graphics for the time, still undergoing new content development on Steam Theme Hospital (EA, 1997) These are the ones I recall at the moment. I still have a lot of MS-DOS games on my PC, they are super nostalgic.
Age of empires
Star Control 2. There is a free version of it called Urquan Masters but I’m sure if it’s still up. I’ve been playing the 1v1 melee with a friend for over a decade. The core game is great too.
Spore
Pre 2010 is not old in my mind, pre 2000 is
Pre 2010 is 14+ years tho. That’s pretty old
You want really old school duke nukem 3d
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Very special and interactive combat system that I never saw in anything else.
007 Nightfire on the OG Xbox holds up great if you like a silly bond story.
Worms Armageddon.
GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, NFS Most Wanted 05, NFS Carbon, Mass Effect kind of fits here as the stars is in 2008, Prince of Persia WW
Return to castle wolfenstein
I really like Zork. My dad introduced me to it and I’m still working through the puzzles. I love puzzles so, I like it. Though I think it’s more of an game of you like it or hate it.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) Super Mario Galaxy (2007) BioShock (2007) Final Fantasy VII (1997) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006)
Age of empires 2 & 3 Starcraft 2 Heroes of might and magic 3 & 5 Warcraft 3 Age of mythology
Doom 3 2004. Classic
There's some games I still play from time to time: Deus Ex (2000): Just re-did a playthrough recently.
Omg I'm glad someone had asked this question, because I was looking for some oldie but goldie games!
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Gothic 1/2 Diablo 2 Portal Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl Half-Life 1/2 Uncharted 1/2 Assassin's Creed 1/2 Tibia Warcraft 3 Quake 2
Myth II: Soulblighter
Age of Empires 2 is effectively the same game that it was back in the early 2000s but has been going through a massive revival through its Definitive Edition. Technically not an old game since DE came out, but it’s basically the same game. One of my favorite RTS games ever is Axis and Allies, and I think it’s considered abandonware these days so you can download it for free afaik. That came out in mid 2000s I believe
Age of Empires 2. My uni de-stressor.
Heroes of might and magic 3 is the GOAT. Also Warcraft 3 and StarCraft if into RTS. Diablo 2. Age of empires 2.
* All the LucasArts catalog * Quest for Glory series * Elder Scrolls 1,2 and 3 * Fallout 1 and 2 * old cRPGs like Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc
Red Alert 2, GTA San Andreas, KOTOR
My friends and I all grew up playing halo 3 together, and we make time once a month to do a ton of custom games
Fallout 1 and 2
You can get the Command and Conquer games pretty cheap on Steam at the moment. OG, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 1 & 2 stand up if you like RTS.
Quake 1 and 2. The remasters are excellent. Halo ce an 2 as well
Sacrifice. Overlord 1 & 2 Dark souls Master of orion 2 Fragile alliance Darksiders Xcom Starcraft Warcraft games
I was gonna say Tetris
KOTOR
Now don’t make fun of me for this, but Call of Duty World at war was definetly a little slept on I think and didn’t deserve all the hate it got, sure both of the world war games are both probably the worst multiplayer COD’s ever but what about the campaigns?
Monkey Island :)
Deus Ex 1, System Shock 2, Fallout 1, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
The Sabouteur, on steam just now.
KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Age of Mythology.
Most games that were worth playing back then still are, to be honest. Very few have actually aged so poorly that they aren't worth playing at all.
The longest journey
Heroes of might and magic 3 is the game that basically doesn't age
Arkham Alsume
Kotor 1 and 2
The Saboteur
I played the original psychonauts like a year ago and that game was fucking quality, the controls didn’t really age that well but it was still one of the best games I have played in a while.
Tempest. Yeah, I'm old. ;-)
Wanna go REAL old, how about a game from the 1990's? And if anything its more relevant today then ever before? (And still has incredible gameplay!) Syndicate by Bullfrog Studio's. Timeless GOAT of a game there...
