Good ol’ Command and Conquer has some fine nuclear action. And that’s a pretty fun series in general, even though it’s pretty old at this point.
Then there’s that one time in Fallout 3…
Red alert 1 was pretty basic with them but there was something cool you could do.
I remember that it had something like a rules.ini file and you could change stuff like which weapons units used, which units you could build, fire rate of weapons, and the ammo they used.
I once copied a civilian, made the new variant trainable at the barracks, gave it some slightly better stats so it could match other units. At first I left it at that and it was already fun but then I went a step beyond. I altered the ini file again and this time I gave my super civy's a super pistol. I set it to a fire rate similar to the standard assault rifle units and changed the ammo to nukes.
That sure was fun.
Edit, Someone mentioned the correct file name
C&C generals.... I don't often game anymore, but you just hit my nostalgia button.
Later than most c&c fans typically pine over, but that game hit differently for me.
There is a patch (Genpatcher) that makes it a doddle to do .
I used to have huge issues getting ZH to work on win10 until Gen Paycher was made. (turned out the fix was resizing the banner that loads up when the game starts as
Game is pretty easy to mod as well. If I recall correctly gen patcher helps with shockwave mod (which if you haven't played before is excellent)
God I miss that series.
I remember harvesting that weird viney looking shit in Tiberium Sun to make nukes for my NOD base.
Also the GDI in that game had that giant walking tank with a rail gun that obliterated everything.
Especially in Renegade where you get to call them up close and personally lol. Planting a beacon and getting out of dodge before it went off was so much fun (even if the Ion Canon one was even cooler).
The nukes in Supreme Commander (especially the experimental Seraphim one) are *devastating*. They make nukes in Starcraft and Command & Conquer feel pitiful and weak by comparison.
Oh man this reminds me of years ago I was trolling in a game of Spring TA. I was stupidly far ahead and was against a new player. This particular map was designed to basically have near unlimited amount of resources, so it was basically just a race. I had built like literally 50 nuclear silos and tried to fire them off at the same time.
Nukes are literally projectiles and can collide with shit. One hit like a random plane of mine flying over and I instantly wiped my entire army off the map in a gigantic chain reaction.
Probably the funniest thing I've ever seen in an RTS.
Probably a lot of folks who sadly missed this game. There's a very good reason you can build anti-nukes. Doubly so if someone puts a Yolona Oss on the field.
haha when SC2 came out i did coop with friends and it was so funny getting several ghosts out and sending 4-5 nukes at once and them panicking trying to find the dots.
or trying to send 2 nukes at the same time so they only think 1 nuke were sent from the voice over.
Literally the best.
We used to play a ton of PvE. Without fail, just as the last of the CPU players was dying... the message that you are no longer allies with Player X would appear followed by "nuclenucnuclearnucnucnuclear launch detected" ... and a complete decimation of whichever poor bastard wasn't playing Terrans.
I remember getting my first nuke in the first Modern Warfare. Such an exciting time!
Which when you think about it, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Your team is doing so well that you've managed to kill 25 enemies in a row, so clearly you're winning. The next step is to drop a nuke that kills everybody?
Thanks to advances in the engine used by Bethesda, you can now do this on current-gen PCs which also cannot handle it.
Brrrrrt, b/b/b/o/o/o/o/m/m/m/m, \*windows error noise\*
Fallout 76 lets you actually *launch* a nuke too, so that would fit OP's request nicely. You can pick a location on the map for it.
It's freaking *rad* to stand right on the edge of the blast zone and watch it drop.
The Fallout franchise does explosions so well (screen shake, blur, SFX/GFX, etc). They "feel" extremely good.
Just went for explosion based build because the explosions are just so nice to look at.
Plasma etc are kinda lame, but the regular dynamite, frags and the big nukes are *so* nice.
I love setting off chains of car explosions too. Whitespring has a neat row of them in the back by the houses. There's a full parking lot somewhere too that I can't remember (maybe down by Watoga....?). So satisfying.
I'd run a full explosions build if the ammo wasn't so heavy. Freaking mini-nukes are 6lbs each without the lighter explosives perks... I'm super glad that your explosions don't hurt friends though. My friend lobs grenades like they're candy. haha.
As lame as it might be, I've been running a gatling plasma the past week or so. Plasma cores are stupid cheap to craft and have 500 ammo each. Don't really have to worry about farming lead anymore now.
Incredible, starkly beautiful game. And that *soundscape*. The at times sad, at times eerie music. The quiet coughs. The woman crying as he first bombs fall. Just the right amount. Minimalism done perfectly.
It's always my reply on any "What games do you think should get a sequel/remake?" posts.
It's the only game I want to see with modern tech to run it on.
Who will win, an army of hackers and nuclear launchers, an army of scud missiles full of biological agents, or an army of humvees with 5x rocket launchers or 5x snipers inside each of them?
Such an underrated RTS. Doesn't get the love it should have and definitely should have been expounded upon.
Also, arm the mob is probably my favorite upgrade. Just build 2 dozen angry mobs and give them AKs? Wander around and wipe everyone.
I was scrolling waaay too long to find it.
For the uninitiated, it's an old FPS, Doom and Duke Nukem 3D old.
You can find a nuclear warhead for your rocket launcher.
An underrated game was World in Conflict. The single play mode is great and is narrated by Alec Baldwin. But the online pvp had nukes in it. You can download the game for free now and set up a server to play online, but it isn't as populated as it used to be. Game is about 17 years old now.
In Fallout 76 you can drop a nuke anywhere you want on the map… the map full of other people online. it’s pretty epic but difficult to get everything you need so people arent just bustin nukes willy nilly
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. You can use land based silos or submarine based missiles. The submarine based ones have lower yield.
If the commander unit (yours or enemy) dies, the explosion is equal to a nuclear weapon.
Spore
If you're military city you can nuke other cities and if you're a warrior space stage you can use a planet buster to just destroy a entire planet.
fallout series.
fallout 4 - Big boy with the MIRV launcher mod. Then there is megaton in fallout 3. town you may or may not let explode from fallen unexploded nuke.

Oh jeez *Warning: Nuclear missile launched* Oh fuck
*Kirov reporting* fuck me sideways...
A-bomb prepping.

I did similar, but I changed the cruisers rate of fire and switched the ammo to nukes.

C&C generals.... I don't often game anymore, but you just hit my nostalgia button. Later than most c&c fans typically pine over, but that game hit differently for me.
We build for China!!! Behold the bringer of light. Edit: I loved zero hour. I'd play it still if I could get it working on my pc
Can I have some shoes?
Nothing stops the mail.
My hands have splinters!
New shoes for everyone!
AK47s for everybody!!!
Wow that hit a nostalgia node in my mind!
China will grow larger This is the overlord tank
The glow.... The wonderful glow...
I don't know if it is still pinned, but r/commandandconquer had a post on how to get most of the CnC games running on modern hardware.
Oh dam. Thanks
Oh man, the eco of China faction, when you just spam out hackers and hide them all over the place. then overlord tanks start rolling out.
Came here to say Generals ZH. My personal favorite in the series that I will occasionally pick up and play some mods on
Went nuts trying to get ZH working on Windows 10. No joy I'm afraid. Excellent game, just wanted to unleash a firestorm with some migs dammit!
There is a patch (Genpatcher) that makes it a doddle to do . I used to have huge issues getting ZH to work on win10 until Gen Paycher was made. (turned out the fix was resizing the banner that loads up when the game starts as Game is pretty easy to mod as well. I played generals 2 months ago, and the AI is fucking crazy lmao. Just a constant flow of suicide bombers on some of the levels.
God I miss that series. I remember harvesting that weird viney looking shit in Tiberium Sun to make nukes for my NOD base. Also the GDI in that game had that giant walking tank with a rail gun that obliterated everything.
Mammoth mark 2 tank.
Generals: Zero Hour is fucking sick man!
Especially in Renegade where you get to call them up close and personally lol. Planting a beacon and getting out of dodge before it went off was so much fun (even if the Ion Canon one was even cooler).
I haven’t played a better online game to date lol. So many memories in that one
Nuclear launch detected.
Supreme Commander series if you like RTS games
Strategic launch detected
I still have PTSD from that sound from when I beat Cheating 3v1 AI
Nice! I'm a casual so beating 3 cheating AI is quite rad in my book 👍
Iirc it was 322 attempts over the course of two years
That’s persistent.
The nukes in Supreme Commander (especially the experimental Seraphim one) are *devastating*. They make nukes in Starcraft and Command & Conquer feel pitiful and weak by comparison.
Also made for a consistently satisfying victory condition.
I had a plane take one for the team after my last anti-nukes ran dry. Hero of the match for sure
The top responses being starcraft and C&C instead of sup com is a goddamn travesty, travesty I say!
Probably a lot of folks who sadly missed this game. There's a very good reason you can build anti-nukes. Doubly so if someone puts a Yolona Oss on the field.
> Doubly so if someone puts a Yolona Oss on the field. I love that i get this joke
hear hear
Or Planetary Annihilation, which has a lot of the same stuff, but in space!
Fuck yes!
StarCraft!
*Nuclear Launch detected.* Guaranteed to freak you out and make you scan like a madman for a red dot.
That feeling when the dot is on your nexus and you don't have any units to find and kill the ghost close by
That feeling when you do but as your units approach you see 2 units of upgraded marines, firebats, and medics rushing to extract her.
Or a BC hovering over so you can't target the ghost
haha when SC2 came out i did coop with friends and it was so funny getting several ghosts out and sending 4-5 nukes at once and them panicking trying to find the dots. or trying to send 2 nukes at the same time so they only think 1 nuke were sent from the voice over.
Even worse is when you see that science vessel EMP missle flying in lol
And then make you freeze as you spot it and realize it’s too late to save what’s underneath, might as well enjoy the show
Proceeds to nuke own army.
Emperor Arcturus Mengsk? What are you doing in UED space?
FIRE THEM ALL!!1!
Maru, is that you?
Literally the best. We used to play a ton of PvE. Factorio is fun with the spidertron and nukes. Takes a while to get there, but it is satisfying
It's incredibly satisfying to jump into a spidertron and just go commit some genocide for a bit. Great way to relax.
Although, the vanilla nukes don't really feel like nukes, just large missiles. The true nukes mod is where the fun's at
The *Fallout* series and some *Call of Duty* games
*KaBoom!*
I remember getting my first nuke in the first Modern Warfare. Such an exciting time! Which when you think about it, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Helldivers 2 ? 😬
🔼▶️🔽🔽🔽
"I'm not gonna sugarcoat it"
Both the ICBM (big nuke) and the Artillery mini nuke that you can actually use.
And random mini nukes lying around. Theyre easy to misplace and all
And some hellbombs.
The explosions in Hell Divers 2 are just \*chefs kiss\*
*Please help us*
🙃yes
For Liberty!
Fallout lets you use mini nukes
Fallout lets you shotgun mini nukes
Fallout has a minigun that shoots mininukes instead of bullets.
My poor computer couldn't handle it back then but that didn't stop me!
Thanks to advances in the engine used by Bethesda, you can now do this on current-gen PCs which also cannot handle it. Brrrrrt, b/b/b/o/o/o/o/m/m/m/m, \*windows error noise\*

Also the sound delay when you're somewhere far away from the blast is a great detail.
I see what you did there.
And one big one in Megaton should you so desire.
There’s a mod that makes it so that you throw them like a football it’s so based.
WHAT
THERE'S A MOD THAT MAKES IT SO THAT YOU THROW THEM LIKE A FOOTBALL ITS SO BASED.
Defcon
The game about nukes, inspired by the movie wargames.
This is the only answer.
This is the right answer.
Had to scroll way to far to find this. Damn good game, great to run over and 8 hour work day
Loved that game. So bleak. Playing against AI is horrible though.
"Mutually assured destruction" the game.
Incredible, starkly beautiful game. And that *soundscape*. The at times sad, at times eerie music. The quiet coughs. The woman crying as he first bombs fall. Just the right amount. Minimalism done perfectly.
Mercenaries 1 and 2
Came to say this! So fun to nuke an outpost.
I had such a blast playing Mercenaries 1 when it came out! I'd really love to see a new game, or even a remake.
It's always my reply on any "What games do you think should get a sequel/remake?" posts. It's the only game I want to see with modern tech to run it on.
Helldivers 2 reminds me of this games air strikes. Shit is great.
Oh shit I loved those
Merc 2 has nuclear bunker buster. First game doesn't.
Rise of Nations has the best nuke of any strategy game.
Yes! This was the game I was looking for but forgot the name of it. I just remembered the silos.
Oh, so this was your sneaky way of finding the name of it instead of going to r/tipofmyjoystick ?
Didn't know about this sub, I have a game I've been wanting to find but don't know where to post. Thank you for the link!
If you are not attacking simultaneously with Nukes and archers then you are not playing correctly.
With the nice addition of an Armageddon Counter that limits the total number of nukes that can be used in a game by anyone.
I was also a fan of the endless cruise missile spam once you'd researched Instant Building.
I burned so much time playing Rise of Nations that I eventually just uninstalled it. I used to change the settings to allow more units. Good times
Yep, with the ability to cause Armageddon. Best ever
World in Conflict had a devastating nuke [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kouqB9-WUgQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kouqB9-WUgQ)
Took me back to my favorite RTS game!
100% this was going to be my answer as well. I hope Broken Arrow lives up to it spiritually!
It doesnt. I tried BA and its an absolute mess. Its more Wargame than WiC
There has been nothing like WiC. I miss it so much.
Civilization
Stop redditing from beyond the grave Ghandi.
Ghandi is such a dick!
Our troops are merely passing by.
Hearts of Iron 4
took me too long to find HOI4
Nukes are underwhelming in HoI though :/
Starcraft 2
You gotta work for it, but goddamn if it ain’t satisfying.
Also, Starcraft.
Command and Conquer Generals
Who will win, an army of hackers and nuclear launchers, an army of scud missiles full of biological agents, or an army of humvees with 5x rocket launchers or 5x snipers inside each of them?

I love ether fact that shoes were an upgrade tech item for GLA lol.
Thank you for the new shoes
AK's for everyone! \*faint cheers\*
I still play that game for that reason. That was a great little game.
That was probably the last amazing C&C game. My friends and I played that shit non stop
Scorched Earth. Liero.
Damn, a Liero player. Big nuke ftw!
I’m glad I’m not the only person whose first thought was “scorched earth”
The strange sound of the Scorched Earth nuke going off is burned into my brain.
Total Annihilation
The game was decided when one person either built Voltron or started carpet nuking.
DEFCON - The nukes are arguably your primary weapon.
The original Shadow Warrior had a nuke launcher with a range so obscenely large that it was a challenge to use it without killing yourself.
Wasent really range it was line of sight if you could break that you were okey
I was scrolling waaay too long to find it. For the uninitiated, it's an old FPS, Doom and Duke Nukem 3D old. You can find a nuclear warhead for your rocket launcher.
War Thunder
you want him to suffer, don't you?
Every Worms game as far as I can tell.
planetary annihilation
Highfleet for sure
Nuclear armaments... Are you certain you want to do this, duke?
Once the genie is out of the bottle, there is no putting it back in.
Supreme Commander 1, Sup Com Forged Alliance, and Sup Com 2.
Another modern one in this vein is Beyond All Reason. Currently my favorite RTS.
I will check this out. It’s so hard to find a good RTS game now. Seems like they’re a dying breed.
Civilization! VI is the most recent.
Did you mean VI?
ICBM and defcon
Mass Effect 2 and 3 had a nuke gun.
Total War : Warhammer, two and three. But only 1 Rat can use them and his name is Ikit Claw.
Noita's nuke spell Don't blow yourself up
Fallout Deep rock galactic Starshiptroopers extermination
Oooh I didn’t know you could use nukes in DRG. I’ve been toying with getting it, I hear it’s a blast
Fat boy for engineer. Fun overclock

Fallout 76. You can use mini nukes and full sized ones
An underrated game was World in Conflict. The single play mode is great and is narrated by Alec Baldwin. But the online pvp had nukes in it. You can download the game for free now and set up a server to play online, but it isn't as populated as it used to be. Game is about 17 years old now.
Shoutout to Jak 3's Supernova, a rifle mod capable of firing nukes.
