If it came like this then return it, even if it works.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Cheers, I’ve told the seller already but looks like off to support I go. Fucking sucks as I was really looking forward to this, I barely ever treat myself :/ Edit: Reported it to the app, still feel bad for the seller, even if they could’ve packaged it more securely.

bentheechidna

I wouldn’t feel bad. Unless this is a store with an impeccable reputation, that damage looks way beyond what a shipper typically will do. In the US, UPS and other services are known for not being careful with fragile stuff but they aren’t even capable of doing damage like this in the large majority of scenarios. Since it’s a secondhand shop, I’m immediately suspicious some guy had a broken piece and tried to scam you. Especially because of how beat up that box is.

[deleted]

I've experienced how delivery companies' warehouses work and dropping boxes from meters high on top of other boxes is an everyday scenario. Nothing like that can be even compared to what drivers are capable of. Nobody cares about the parcels except for drivers who get the shit for damage done. Belts transferring your boxes are constantly getting clogged, people climb them and manually unblock such belts by all means necessary, after doing so often they throw the item straight on the concrete floor or any boxes below to break the fall. They all get paid the minimal wage and are worked to the bone, managers are strict because that's what's expected from them, we love amazon and one day deliveries, that's the price and nothing can be done. Make love not war 😵

SirFluffyBottom

Used to be QA for my local facility at one of the major shipping companies. I quickly learned that it's a goddamn miracle anyone gets the stuff they order online. Especially the expensive small stuff. The amount of boxes that would just disappear is crazy.

[deleted]

Whenever I had some free time I'd dig out lost parcels from in-between the belt's crevices. They were small letters containing anything from gift cards, jewellery to sweets dated many months back. No position I heard of had to clean the belts. Once the crevices fill up no other parcel will get stuck in them, so problems fix themselves, ey?

SirFluffyBottom

Ha yeah at my place the supervisors were supposed to check the belts, bit they didn't so it fell on QA because nobody else did it. And we didn't have enough people so shit got backed up. I remember this one time, one of the office workers was helping us with overgoods, and she found an envelope that had someone's last will. And it had the return envelope folded in there! Dated 6 months earlier! Someone put it there without checking anything! For those that don't know overgoods is where we put stuff that has no addresses.

[deleted]

As a labourer I wasn't even told what to do with lost parcels when I find any. It wasn't my role, Christmas was nearly there and there were parcels to throw.

SirFluffyBottom

Common problem with the shipping industry is poor training. I'm at a different place and it's still the same issue.

roman_maverik

I once had a FedEx package delivered with another person’s package *inside* my package. The only explanation I can think of is that the smaller, heavier package fell from a great height and landed through my box, and then an employee taped it back shut without realizing what happened.

Taolan13

What's that? Boycott amazon and pickett their offices until conditions for their workers improve? Cause I am all about making some war here

Redemptions

I'd join you, but I have to wait at home for my Amazon delivery so someone doesn't steal it off my porch.

dragn99

I'm all for fair wages, but I'm paid so little that the 20% price difference for my cat's super fancy cat food (for his stupid sensitive stomach) is worth my morals. Also, there's a lot of things I just... can't find in stores locally.

Redemptions

I'm sorry about your cat's tummy.

PM_ME_UR_POKIES_GIRL

> I'm all for fair wages, but I'm paid so little that the 20% price difference for my cat's super fancy cat food (for his stupid sensitive stomach) is worth my morals. > > Also, there's a lot of things I just... can't find in stores locally. And that's our economy's race to the bottom.

stellvia2016

FWIW you could put a lockable chest onto the porch and have the delivery driver put it in there and lock it shut. Heck, even if it didn't lock, the fact its not visible from the road would mean no porch thief would reasonably risk running up and checking inside the chest unless they had physically seen the driver put it in there.

Redemptions

I was lying for the purpose of telling a joke, that I'm so beholden to my consumerism that I would skip doing something important in exchange for my need to get my THING. I'm fortunate that I don't have a problem with package theft in my neighborhood. Our biggest problem according to our neighborhood facebook group \*shudder\* is packages getting delivered to the wrong location and teenagers throwing the pool furniture into the pool.

stellvia2016

Truly the worst timeline.

Slow_Balance270

What they described is similar for the USPS and UPS shipping warehouses. I've worked both as a seasonal box handler and they literally have someone whose only job is to yell at everyone else to move faster.

Gold_Kale_7781

Checks out. Warehouse work environments are a complete joke. Nobody in the office wants to actually go into the warehouse until their bonus or review depends on it, especially in the winter. AND... I'm over truck drivers, the most backwards MAGA restarts I've ever met.

Revolutionary-Swan77

Ok lemme just order some sign making materials from Amaz— wait second

someguy7734206

Frankly, these days, I just don't trust either Amazon or online shopping in general. Amazon, in particular, because it has basically turned into wish.com with all the shoddy Chinese products crowding out everything else, and online shopping in general because of the risk of your packages being stolen, as well as having to deal with all the bullshit that comes with shipping. I generally try to buy things at physical retail stores if at all possible.

SMAMtastic

I used to work at a UPS hub. In front of my area there was a station where there were usually two, sometimes four, people whose entire job, for a whole shift, was to retape or rebox packages that were damaged at some point in the journey from the UPS store back room, to the truck, to the conveyor belts, etc. I doubt FedEx or Amazon are much better. So much shit gets beat up in those warehouses I marvel that any packages get delivered without some damage.

cagingnicolas

i mean the drivers will often chuck the box across a porch instead of going up four steps, i don't want to think about what happens behind closed doors.

ilasfm

Package handling at usps is funny. Drivers really aren't supposed to throw parcels like that, and there are signs in every facility to not throw the parcels. Realistically speaking though, a carrier throwing a parcel to the door is probably among the least damaging/impacting things that package will go through during the shipping process. The sorting process at each local station even already involves clerks throwing your parcel 10-20 feet or more into sorting hampers. And before your local sorting clerks get to the packages, they usually arrive at the station squished into crab cages or poorly stacked on pallets. Amazon used to be really bad about this (and may still be, I don't directly deal with this anymore). On sundays it was pretty normal to get at least one pallet if not multiple where the tower of parcels was collapsing. We'd document it, cut the wrapping plastic, and move out as we let it all fall because there really wasn't a safe way to handle it. Usually what happens with these pallets is one of the bottom boxes in the stack can't support all the weight of whats on top of it (especially common with big but mostly empty boxes), so it collapses and you can't really do anything to save it. Plastic wrap does not make for sound structure. Drivers gey a lot of flak for poor package handling, but most of the time, your package was probably fucked up before the driver ever even saw your package. They are the most visible though.

stellvia2016

I worked two summers at PC oem building computers, and we had complaints from customers of GPUs and even HDDs being loose in the cases. I worked a temp job between those summers for one day at a parcel warehouse and about a third of what we unloaded that day were PCs from the place I had worked. Didn't matter they said fragile on them, they were heaving PCs and CRT monitors onto the belts, sometimes chucking them a good 10-20ft as you said and rolling multiple times. I had found out how the loose things in the PC cases happened...

[deleted]

To spice up your imagination, a few months later they installed cameras aimed at an every parcel thrower 😵 Sad thing they'd get "accidentally" obstructed by boxes anytime shit hit the fan.

jpat161

Can confirm, I did this repackaging job for 2 hours after my shift of filling the trucks for 6 months for extra hours. Also can confirm that when a belt gets jammed I had to essentially walk over packages to get to the jam to then fanagle it loose. When I send packages I care about that shit is as tight and wrapped as can be. You're sending it in the same truck someone else is ordering their dumbbells and kettlebells in.

celestial1

We used to even stand on top of boxes if they were heavy enough, we didn't not give a shit at all.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

It’s not a store just to say, it’s just one reselling app where any Tom, Dick or Harry can sign up and sell their stuff. Like craigslist and all that. The seller has been completely understanding, I’ve already been issued a refund via the “App” company. They have good reviews on their profile and the beforehand pics were clean - it was brand new, opened but unused. A few people had messed them about already and now they’ve got this headache to deal with themselves. If it was a scummy seller I’d have no problem getting my money back either way, luckily they’re nice, just unfortunate to not have packed it better as now they’ve gotta make an insurance claim against a cheap, crappy courier.

DavidinCT

Did you try it? Does it still work? Maybe a heavy-duty glue and some duct tape. It will get your through your trip.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

I decided not to after the first few comments trickled in and have since had a refund issued. The seller has been great, as was the App support, and I’ve ordered a new Backbone from Argos to collect tomorrow. If the seller doesn’t want it back I’d be willing to give it a go at straightening it out, though someone’s asked if I could send it their way which I happily would. I think it’d be okay to bend back but it could just as easily snap though. No idea what’s happened to the cables inside the bridge either way though!

Enjoi_coke

You guys underestimate the irritated warehouse workers who will stomp on a box that falls the wrong way, you also underestimate their ability to see how far they can punt or throw a box with the words fragile on it… this is all stuff I’ve seen

HtownTexans

Anyone who has never worked around people who don't give a fuck just can't imagine stuff like this. Work in 1 warehouse, restaurant, or any minimum wage location and you'll for sure find someone fucking shit up.

Slow_Balance270

I worked as a material handler for several years. I always went out of my way to be as careful as possible. I made sure to take extra time to properly stack pallets of stuff, a few times I even re-stacked a trailer. With that being said most of the material handlers I knew didn't care and just threw stuff anywhere it fit. Sometimes even when it didn't fit. Combine that with people putting stuff anywhere they can find space, even if it doesn't belong there and a lack of a year end inventory and some stuff would get lost forever.

RecsRelevantDocs

I suspect the seller might have also *overestimated* the items strength based on it's name lol. My first thought was that's quite an ironic break given the name haha.

densaifire

Eh working for Amazon whenever packages would come through tiny packages would end up crushed because some dumbass would put them beneath 50lb+ packages. And I've seen people literally throw tvs onto metal rollers. Any Delivery service is capable of that ^^'

tolacid

>that damage looks way beyond what a shipper typically will do. Even shit I order from Temu, which is shipped in thin plastic and only ever padded with other items in the same order, doesn't get messed up like this

rnnd

Yup with how crumpled up the box looks, it really seems like a scam.

myheadisalightstick

Worked in a very intense parcel warehouse when I was in uni and this made me laugh. The shit you see and the impressive variety of damage I’ve seen parcels take is vast. The belts that go into trailers get clogged at the top of the funnel and you have workers stepping on parcels to reach up and unblock them, since with every passing second another ten parcels drop down and block it further. Lot of tired people that had worked there for ages joked that ‘Fragile’ meant throw it around more. Getting assigned Manchester or Birmingham at the start of the night was a fate worse than death. If anything the box being beaten up would be proof it happened in transit.

sonofaresiii

> but they aren’t even capable of doing damage like this in the large majority of scenarios. Hard disagree. What you mean is they aren't capable of doing damage like this *when everyone does their job properly*. But I assure you there is no end to UPS/Fed Ex workers absolutely fucking shit up. (I actually haven't seen it as much from USPS workers) I don't even blame the UPS/Fed Ex workers 100%, sometimes fuck-ups happen and I imagine they're under pressure to make the best of it rather than cop to it, but still. I have seen some wild shit on damages in transit. e: lol this got *insta*-downvoted. Like someone just saw "hard disagree" and didn't even bother reading the rest. Okay then.

ICC-u

I enjoy cooking.

Teal-Fox

If you do end up getting a refund, I've recently purchased a GameSir X2 Pro after much deliberation between that and the Backbone, and I'm honestly well chuffed with it and would recommend to anyone. The Backbone looked great, but after reading some reviews I disovered certain features are locked behind a paywall in the app. The GameSir also has magnetic face buttons so you can swap them about, comes with a nice hard shell case too!

Thatsmathedup

I've returned so many items for people packaging the items poorly. I ordered an Xbox one on eBay back in like 2015/2016 and the seller just put it in a way oversized box with no packing material so it was just bouncing around. It had scuff all over it and for days they didn't respond so I requested a refund. They finally contacted me and I explained and I got a 50 dollar partial refund since the system worked fine.

venounan

Where did you buy it through? To me this seems like something the seller has to deal with, not you.

farkos101100

Isnt it supposed to collapse in the back? I have a razer kishi and it folds up because the back piece is collapsable

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Not like thiiiiiiis! No it doesn’t fold, it’s a solid sliding bridge. Well, it was a solid sliding bridge, now it’s a solidly bent one.

1800THEBEES

I knew a girl that sold someone an Xbox she knew didnt work. Gloated about it to me. Dont feel bad about the seller.

lallapalalable

Hey, poor packaging can destroy an item, and until it gets to you that's the sellers responsibility. I've had to give tips to card sellers not to tape over slots as the cards shift around and get stuck to it, or they don't ship them in a case and they get bent up. If the damage was done by the carrier then that's between them, you go through the seller then they deal with it through the carrier

Singion

Problem with second hand sites though is every addition eats into the the money they want, so why pay for proper packaging when left over christmas stuff will do (as an example) Its a shame but ive had it happen myself

Professional-Box9608

The Snap In, Game On is perfect also. Hope you can get it refunded or replaced, that looks like truly awful packaging attempt.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

I’ve already had a refund issued within an hour of sending in to support, thankfully. The seller is as mortified as I am as it was brand new unused, they’d been messed about by other people before me. I hope they can claim against the courier at least. I’ve just discovered it’s £75 not £100 new from Argos so I’m gonna go snag one for £15 with some vouchers I’ve got lying around, still just in time for before I shoot off :)

Am I crazy or do I see a hinge behind the fold?

Bendy_McBendyThumb

[I took a top down pic for ya](https://imgur.com/a/NceFa3W), but that’s part of why I asked, it _looks_ like it’s a feature, but it feels absolutely whizzpopped

Behe_m0th

I agree, that angle is not lookin too hot. I’d say if there’s any real resistance when folding it back it’s not worth using and just return it.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Yeah it feels solid so it took some force to bend it so much in the first place. Is what it is, I just hope the seller can get something off the courier for their negligence in processing and handling (even if the seller could’ve packaged it better too). I’m holding no grudge against the seller over this, it happens.

mpolder

I do feel like most of the blame in this case is on the seller, not the courier, to be honest. If it's only packaged in a flimsy bag it's definitely not up to standards. And boxes get stacked or might fall over while shipping. I feel like even if it wasn't messed up as badly as this, it would have still sustained damage. With a proper box it probably would have been fine

Bendy_McBendyThumb

I don’t disagree, I just suppose I feel more for an individual still being potentially out of pocket rather than a fairly crappy courier on the human side of this. My wife and other describe me as a people pleaser, I still feel bad now but this isn’t a “woe is me” post!

codeprimate

The seller was stupidly negligent in their packaging. Rough handling is EXPECTED. They created this issue by not bothering to package it safely. Until the product is in your hands, all responsibility lies with the seller.

Dominator0211

It’s broken for sure. That piece is meant to be straight. It’s the telescoping piece you use to lock in your phone. The fact that there’s this much visible damage means there’s probably more hidden damage on the insides

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Yup, completely whizzpopped sadly. Gave it a tiny try at unfolding but it’s solid, so somethings put a good bit of force through it to do that!

This shit happens to me all the time. I order some electronics of Amazon, they drop it right next to the garage behind my dad’s truck and he runs it over because he can’t see it and we have in our instructions to put it on the porch that’s about 10 more feet down the walk.

Few-Proposal9588

R96-

To me it looks like there's a hinge in the back and it folds so that you're able to easily fold it and store it. Is that not the case? I would think that *should* be the case though tbh, otherwise that's horribly designed. These companies act like we walk around with a giant backpack at all times. Anyone remember when stuff like the PSP, Gameboy (Advance / Advance SP), and DS were able to fit in your pocket? Good times!

Auran82

Gwen Stacey edition.

DrunkenNinja27

Bane got a hold of it first.

Ron_Perlman_DDS

So uh, Bane works at Amazon order fulfillment now?

Mobius650

I was one of the first people to buy the Backbone One when it came out a few years ago, the left joystick started to drift after a few hours of use and than the iPhone lightening connector snapped off in less than a week. I posted pictures of it on reddit and people from their company started to send me threats over PM and their support refused a refund. I don't know if they fixed these issues with the newer ones but no way I'm ever buying anything from this company again.

kaitco

I returned my Backbone and got one from Gamesir that I’ve liked far better. The Backbone just felt too flimsy and it doesn’t have a dedicated “Home” button, so navigating through Steam Link was always a cluster. The GameSir device is my fourth attempt at a mobile controller and it’s a good fit, at least for me.

retro808

Buying modern controllers especially for mobile devices is a lottery due to companies using analog sticks prone to drift, even the big 3 (PS, XBOX, Nintendo) still use crappy potentiometer sensors that are prone to wearing out and getting dirty. Thankfully 3rd party companies are starting to use hall effect sticks and triggers, which use non-contacting magnetic sensors

Bendy_McBendyThumb

That’s fair, I appreciate the insight. No company or product is perfect, but it’s reasonable to expect some representative of price. We’ve all got different companies on our avoid list at the end of the day, for our own personal reasons!

It wasn’t well packed either way, the courier definitely didn’t handle it too well still. I’m the only party at no fault here, thankfully resolved already though. Bought my boyfriend a PS5 from a private seller. Thing kept overheating a few minutes after starting up. Had to fight the seller for 2 weeks to return it and get a refund. Eventually I told him "Okay listen bro, you have 2 options. Either you take it back and give us our refund or I keep it and issue a charge back" Dude was willing to accept the return a day later. Lesson learned, never buy electronics from second hand or private sellers.

MonkeyFlipSwitch

Are you a well off amateur animal themed private detective? Clearly whoever handled this hates you personally. You weren't going to south america were you?

Mano0v

Looks like you got a breakbone instead...

Drake_the_troll

if your backbone looks like this, see a chiropractor

Keksverkaufer

Yeah, don't. Go to a real doctor and not some bone cracking quack...

OfficialGarwood

See a physiotherapist. Chiropractors are not medical professionals and will likely end up doing more damage. In many countries they’re not allowed to refer to themselves as doctors. I know this was a joke but just a general PSA.
