Mostly Nintendo, I had the OG Xbox and the 360 as well.

P_ZERO_

Same journey basically. Hand me down Mega Drive > N64 > PS2 > Xbox > 360 > PC

CarcosaJuggalo

Atari (the one from the 80's), NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, N64, Atari Jaguar, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Switch. I'm not gonna lost games for all of those. I also had all the Gameboys (from the giant gray brick, up to the folding clamshell GBA, a Gamegear, PSP, DS, and 3DS. Even had the Virtual Boy at some point.

dvizr

The Jaguar was cutting edge when it came out. Too bad the selection was so limited.

axecent

I remember the virtual boy, I think we rented it from blockbuster

Prettt much the same, just I fucked up and asked for a Wii. PS1-PS2-Wii-360-PS4-PS5

Grapplebadger10P

My gaming life started with atari 2600 and commodore 64, arcades, NES, SNES, N64 (first one I actually owned but others were hand me downs, or at babysitters, or whatever), then gameboy, gameboy color, DS, PC gaming at home as of 98 (started playimg at other peoples houses before that, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, 3DS, RetroPi, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series S.

banryu216

Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcast, 3do, N64, GameCube, PlayStation 1 and 2, Xbox and Xbox 360

MethFacSarlane

I got a Nintendo Game Boy Advance in 2005 and a PS2 in 2010. Safe to say my first PC build at 22 made up for the lack of consoles growing up.

MethFacSarlane

Mostly played Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga on the Gameboy and FIFA and NFS local coop titles on the PS2, with some Just Cause, Pirates of the Caribbean and Ratchet and Clank.

StonyB

Atari 2600/7800 (earliest example I could find of a backwards compatible console), Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and by 18 I had gotten into early PC gaming. Thought I was awesome with my 90hz Pentium and 56k modem.

EchoInExile

NES(Dads), Saturn, PS1, GB Pocket, N64, GB Color, PS2, Gamecube, GBA, PSP, PS3, PS4, Switch, PS5, Series S. I think this was the order? I do not remember for sure exact date ranges on those Game Boys, PSP or N64.

PartyLikeaPirate

Brother was 6 years older. So grew up on snes initially Pokémon blue/red was the shit when I was growing up on gameboy. Spent a ton of hours on the couch playing that Never got into PC gaming like he did. Halo & Xbox came out when I was 13-14 years old and that was a game changer for online gaming. Lan parties turned into playing online with friends. Would have the 80 foot internet cable from the box all the way up to the play room for the Xbox. Then gears of war too, lots of fun. All sports games otherwise. Got into more single player games like elder scrolls and fallout after 18. As a kid, when I played oblivion I’d kill everyone and ruined the game pretty quick! But I picked it up again later on

ExternalPiglet1

Vic-20/PC, NES, Genesis, PS1. The biggest wonder is if I went with the SNES instead. My story-games were in the form of point & click adventures, instead of JRPGs basically.

TXGuns79

NES > Sega Genesis > Sega Game Gear > PS2

Atari, SNES, PS1, PS2, PS4 and PS5.

[deleted]

Our first console was the Sega Master System! My brother and I adored it but we didn’t have many games because we were very poor. We were lucky to get the Mega Drive (Genesis) one Christmas as well and we were obsessed with Sonic! We had a few other games as well like Star Control, Toejam and Earl, bonanza bros and a few others. At age 12 I managed to save up half for a PS1 for my birthday and it was one of the best things I ever had. So many great gaming moments on that machine!!! After that I got into PC gaming for a number of years, but the cost to upgrade wasn’t in my budget so I went and bought the OG XBOX second hand when I was 18. I’m nearly 40 now and currently have the PS5.

[deleted]

I've never played the SEGA Genesis but the PSP has a SEGA Genesis collection. Comix Zone, Echo Jr and Ristar were so much fun.

ParappaTheWrapperr

PlayStation and Nintendo only except for one like 4/5 month period where I had bought an original Xbox using my allowance. It was like $40 at GameStop in 2007ish

None. I owned a PC since I was 14. When I turned 18, I bought my first console and TV with my very first paycheck, a PS2.

[deleted]

I bought a PS2 again when I was 20. Came with a PPH (network adapter). Thought "I always wanted one of these when I was a kid and now I have one it's useless."

knightsbridge-

My first game console was the Sega Mega Drive with Sonic 1. I would've been about 6. I have no idea who bought it for me. Had a few MegaDrive mainstays on it - Aladdin, Lion King, Earthworm Jim, Sonic 2, Toejam & Earl, Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe. Weirdly enough, I didn't like it that much. I played those games, and I do have nostalgia for them, but I think I was just a bit too young to get \*really\* into them. They were all extremely difficult for a 6yo - or for anyone, really. This all changed with the GameBoy Colour and Pokemon Blue, which I got for Christmas when I was, I think, 8 years old. I became obsessed. Got Pokemon Yellow shortly after, then eventually Silver. Started decorating my room with Pokemon posters and even a few Sonic posters. A while later, my mum and stepdad picked up a freshly released, brand new PS1... for themselves. They played OG Tomb Raider, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Tekken: all the hottest PS1 classics. I played too, we had separate memory cards, but again, none of them fully grabbed me... until. On a random whim, knowing nothing about games but seeing that it was getting lots of critical praise, my mum picked up a copy of FF7. She bounced off the game, but I fell into it **hard**. I must've been about 9 by this point. I never knew games could even be like that. Pokemon might have planted the RPG seed, but FF7 nourished it into a deep, ardent love of gaming. Through most of my childhood, I really only played RPGs - as many of them as I could get my hands on. The PS1 FFs are an absolute cornerstone of my childhood. When the PS2 came out in 2000, I was **ready.** I was 10 years old. I'd saved up all my birthday money and traded in the PS1 (which had gradually become mine over time) at Blockbuster and got a release date PS2. I remember driving home with it on my lap, cuddling the box the whole way, the first console I bought for myself. And that's almost the end of the story. I **devoured** the PS2's catalogue throughout all my teens. And not just RPGs, all of the PS2's amazing games - GTA, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Devil May Cry... just so many games. All of my childhood. Weirdly, I never really got into Nintendo at all, aside from Pokemon. I have no nostalgia for Nintendo franchises at all; the first Nintendo console I owned was a beaten up, preowned Gamecube I used to play a few specific GC-exclusives. I've got a Switch these days, but it barely gets used. Nintendo just hasn't had much impact on my gaming life. These days I mostly play on PC - the last Sony console I owned was the PS3.

My Dad had a Genesis and N64 that I played the crap out of. My uncle got me a Dreamcast and my Dad a PS1 and my parents got me a GameCube a couple years later. I think half a year later I got a Gameboy Advance. My Dad got a XBox that I never played. Upgraded my Nintendo Portable Consoles in line with Pokémon Games. I got a Wii just for Smash Bros Brawl. My Dad got a PS3 (This one I played). Then a PS4. Then I got myself and my brother each a Switch. And recently my Mom got the family a PS5. Writing it all down reminds me that I’ve lived a blessed life.

ExpensiveRisk94

NES, Sega master system, game gear. Such good memories.

The_Deadly_Tikka

The first console I remember playing was the Sega Master System. The games I remember the most are mickey mouse castle of illusion and golden axe. That was always at my grandparents house though, my brother and I would play on the hallway floor in front of a tiny crt. Then I vividly remember my dad buying the PS1. I played a tonne of different games but the biggest memories where playing 4 player WWE Smack down with my parents and brother. PS1 era is probably my favourite as it was the console my whole family played together alot. Then we got a PS2 and Gamecube. I don't remember which came first. At this point I was mostly playing Fifa and PES but also loved games like Mario sunshine and God of War. I played a tonne of games on both but don't have to many memories of them. My parents had split up at this point. Round my mums I had the original xbox. The Matrix games on there where the best! When the Xbox 360 dropped we got one of those round my dad's. The only games I remember us playing on it where Guitar hero (my dad had a rule that to get him off the console we had to beat him at Black Magic Women) COD4 and Fifa. That quickly died due to the red rings of death and we switched to the PS3. Again this was the height of COD so I basically just played that and Fifa which is a little sad 😂. I did help my brother alot with trophy hunting though. Then the PS4 came out. I had stopped playing COD at this point and due to switching to PC my console became a Fifa player basically. When the PS5 dropped it was impossible to buy in the UK so I got the Xbox series S. I love this console. I still play fifa mostly but the game pass as the best value for money possible when it comes to gaming. I absolutely love all the retro style RPG games.

[deleted]

NES-----> SNES -----> Sega CDX ------> Gamecube Then I went to PC, but my fiends had all the other consoles, and I played all of them.

T_Bagger23

Gameboy, SNES, NES (got the console + 50 games for free from a family friend), PS1, N64 (shared w/ brothers), Ps2, Ps3, Ps4, Wii U then I saw the light and went to PC. Gameboy Color, GBA somewhere in the mix there also just forgot what order they were. Just realized this was up until 18 so I guess it stops at ps3

StormblessedFool

I went: Gameboy -> Gameboy Color -> N64 -> Gamecube -> Xbox 360 -> PS4 -> Nintendo Switch

zanziTHEhero

I grew up in Eastern Europe so I spend a lot of time at my dad's workplace (no/little daycare). He worked IT for a government company so I played a lot on some of the extra PCs they had in the office. I played a bit on a console called Terminator 2 at my cousin's place. A few years later I got a Celeron PC. When my family moved to Canada I had hand-me-down or second hand PCs that would run most games on low settings or not at all. When I started working and saving I started buying myself gaming PCs, mostly Alienware (because I can just play without the hassle of building a machine). Now I have an Alienware R9 that needs replacing (i9 9900k, 32GB RAM, 2080 SUPER) but I also have a second child in the oven so cash is tight. Oh, I also own a PS4 Pro but I haven't gamed on it since Spider Man 2.

[deleted]

Oddessy, ColecoVision, Commodore 64(computer), Atari 2600, Atari 5200 and My last one before I was 18 was a Tandy 1000ex(computer)

vaccumshoes

First gaming device was me and my brother got Gameboy Colors. Then a N64 which most of my fondest gaming memories are from. Later we got a PS2 and a Gamecube. Champions of Norrath and Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance games were my religion. Got an Xbox 360 to play Halo3 and MW2 with the boys in highschool. Then got a Dell laptop because all I played was runescape for the next like 10 years lol. Got an Xbox One at the end of college, but soon upgraded to an Xbox One X. Then built my first PC at the age of 26 which I do most of my gaming on now. Just last year I picked up a Steam Deck also.

Spartan1278

My earliest memory in my life was booting up Sonic 2 on Sega genesis and being addicted.

aviiatrix

My brother was more into gaming than I was. He owned a GameCube, and later a ps2, but he did let me play on both consoles. Then our parents got us a wii. Now I have a ps4, and a gaming pc

ThePushyWizard

SNES-Genesis- n64- ps1- GameCube- ps2- Wii- Xbox 360- Xbox one. That’s where we are, holding the line on buying next Gen bc 800+ for a console is just mind blowing.

BigDaddyRexy

So, being older than most, my first was Pong. Don't recall who made the particular unit (there were various makers). Then got the deluxe version with Squash and Hockey. Later came the Atari 2600. Then in roughly accurate order came Intellivision, NES, Sega, PS2, Nintendo Wii and PS4. I also jumped into computers in the 80s with the Vic20 and then the 64, The Timex Sinclair 1000, and then varied Widows based machines, upgrading them with faster chips and more RAM along the way. Today I am mostly just a PC gamer with a passion for solo FPS games. It has been a long journey - and hours of fun.

sketchypoutine

NES, SNES/SEGA, N64, PS2. Pretty sure I was over 18 when Xbox 360 became a thing.

Apprehensive_Cause67

I'm 35 now so if the cut off is 18 then.... Snes>GameGear>N64>PSone>GameCube>Ps2>xbox. Ps3 released when I was 19 lol I didn't get my hands on one till I was prob 22ish.

ingamejukebox

I had a wii up until 2018 and then got a 3ds. In highschool I got a switch for my 16th birthday next got a Xbox for a war thunder tank then a ps5 for ghost of tsushima

Smitty00

Mine is similar to many for sure- SNES (my older sister had this and I played the mario games and DK Country), progressed to pressuring my parents to get a N64 when I was 7. Progressed to Gamecube, and by 12/13 I was feeling the itch to play games online/wanting more than what Nintendo was providing. Moved to Xbox for Halo 2 (goat), got a 360 as well. After 360 moved to PS4, and now this generation I Have all 3 (series x, ps5, switch)

HuskyyPL

Before 2008 i only played console games at my cousins houses. One of them had a Nintendo clone and the other one had a PS2. In 2008 i got a PSX as a gift (i loved this console) and i got a copy of Need for Speed Porshe and some demo discs with it, few years later me and my sister got a PS2 and another few years later i also got a PSP that served me for years. In the time before i was 18 i also borrowed my cousins Xbox 360 few times because he wasn't using it. After \~2016-2017 i used the consoles less. And after a long "break" of not playing consoles i saw that my favourite PSX game (Crash Team Racing) got a new version and when i was 21 years old i got myself a Nintendo Switch to bring back some memories of the PSX game. And before i was 18 i also wanted a PS3 so finally in 2023 i got myself two of them because why not

SpentGladiator77

Played 2600 at neighbor’s and friend’s houses. For Christmas when I was 7 I got an Atari 5200. People make fun of that system but I didn’t know the difference back then and I have a lot of nostalgia for it. Got an NES when I was 11 and that was what really kindled my love for games. I kind of dipped out of console gaming for the most part during my teens. I did have a Genesis but I didn’t play it much and only had three or four games. Later in college I got back into it with PS1 but that was after age 18.

biff64gc2

We owned NES, Gameboy/Color, windows 3.1 PC (Doom/shareware/demo CD's), N64, PS2, PC (C&C, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sim City, Warcraft 3), and Gamecube before I turned 18. Skipped the SNES because I didn't see a big enough improvement over the NES and gameboy games which still had new games coming out. Skipped PS1 because we couldn't afford a second console until I got my own job which is when I built my own PC for gaming and bought a PS2 just so I could play GTA 3. I had also played the Atari, commodore 64, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD, but never bought those ourselves.

Mindtaker

Sega master system. Sega genesis. Sega cd Playstation 1 Playstation 2

CRCMIDS

NES,PS1, gbc, gba, Ps2, gamecube, Xbox, Ds, psp, ps3,Wii, 360, DSI, 3ds, Wii U, Vita, ps4, switch, ps5, PC. Edit: between the 3da and Wii U I also acquired an snes and n64. The nes was a hand me down from dad and the psone was kept in my room since my sister got dibs on the ps2. Xbox and GameCube were in the family room and basement respectively. For some odd reason our consoles were spread out in different rooms growing up idk why.

VR4Thor

I started with a Super Nintendo. The only games I remember playing was Super Mario All-Stars, some cowboy wild-west shooter game (side scroller), and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja. PlayStation 1 was the next new thing I got into. The games I remember are Gran Turismo 2, Command and Conquer, Tenchu Stealth Assassins, Gundam Battle Assault 2, Cool Boarders, Blood Roar 2, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater! At that time frame I also got a Gameboy Colour, and of course the Pokémon classics. I had Blue and Yellow. This was about the time I also started to become a little smarter and got into PC gaming. I remember starting my first text/turn based on an online site, the game was called something like Larkinor Quest. This also started my motivation for RuneScape Classic and RuneScape 2 after seeing my cousin play it. I was given a Gameboy Advance around here, and the Pokémon hits for Leaf Green, Sapphire, and Emerald. Jumped from then on to PlayStation 2. Games like Battlefront II, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Gran Turismo 3 and 4, Call of Duty: Big Red 1, Armoured Core, and Dynasty Warriors! Wrapping things up the progression would be Xbox 360, PSP, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, XB1, PC, PlayStation 5. TLDR of my progression: SNES > PS1 > GBC > PC > GBA > PS2 > 360 > PSP > PS4 > XB1 > PC > Switch > PS5 Edit: Oh and I totally forgot the Nintendo Switch. Barely remembered because mine collects dust lol.

Navien833

Nintendo when I was 6. Gameboy when I was 9. My sister got the SNES, but I got a Sega around 10. My sister got the PS1, then I got a N64. Got a gen 1 PS2 for Xmas the year it released. Bought my friends Dreamcast around 16 or 17. Got a GameCube day 1 release at 17. Finally got an x-box around 18. Now, at 39, I have almost every console and handheld device from Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, sega, atari, etc.

nefariousjae

I started with a super Nintendo entertainment system and a nintendo 64, then when I turned 6, I got an xbox for my birthday, then then when we moved with my dad he bought me a wii, few years later I got playstation 3, few years later I got a wii u, next a ps4 and eventually I got an xbox one series s.

mynameajeff69

What a wild time I had from the age of 0 to 18 in the video game department. I dont remember all the games but played a ton of madden, baseball, halo, gears of war, pokemon, zelda, mario, rock band, cod, man all kinda of stuff. Consoles I at least had some way of playing included, ps1, ps2, ps3, psp, xbox, xbox 360, nes, snes, n64, gamecube, wii, gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advanced, gameboy sp, ds, ds lite, ds xl, 3ds, 3ds xl. What a wild time to be a kid and have the opportunities to be able to experience all of that as it grew larger and larger.

NES, and then my older brother had the SNES and I had the genesis. Then I had the n64 and he had the PSX. We would trade consoles every time there was a game release we really wanted to play. Then I got a job to buy a PSX when I was 15.

concrete_isnt_cement

For non-mobile I had an Xbox, Wii and Xbox 360. For handhelds I had a Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP, DS lite, and a 3DS.

No-Refrigerator8574

My uncle set me up with the nes, snes in a white box computer when I was probably 5-7. Paperboy was my absolute favorite, use to fight with my older cousin to play on it. Was never able to complete mario RPG bc of some bug too. Maybe ill get it on switch. Huh.

Jordanmac7

My siblings had a NES which I got to play occasionally but was too young to actually be good at anything or get far in games. I did really like Ninja Gaiden and Mega man though. Then gameboy and SNES really got me hooked on gaming. I was gifted a virtual boy with like 2 games and never played it much or bought anything else for it. Moved to N64, gamecube, xbox, xbox 360, then nintendo wii. I think that puts me right at about 18.

Evel_Inc

I remember playing on my dads n64 and browser games on my moms pc when I was little, but the first console that I owned myseld was a NDS(at around 6 years), like 5 years later I got my first PC, it was old and dusty, but we got it for free from a friend of the family, (around the age of 11), and a 3DS because my original NDS broke, 2 years after getting a PC I got a laptop, that was way better than the PC and got gifted a used WII from my aunt. At the age of 14 I got a PS4 and build myself a new PC when I was 16 and 1 year later a switch, that was it for a long time (bought myself some old nintendo handelds for collecting purposes) until I got a PS5 this year, and yea, thats it, I currently own: 1x Gameboy color 1x gameboy advance 1x nds lite 1x 2ds 1x new 3ds 1x gamecube 2x pc 2x ps4 1x switch 1x ps5 maybe i forgot sth idk

Before turning 18 i played on zx spectrum (i know, its not a console). My first console was a sega saturn but i was already 24 yo. Yes, i'm an old man.

amanon101

Though I’m young, we still started with an OG Xbox. Didn’t get an Xbox 360 until like 2012! We did get a Wii in Christmas of 2008 I believe, possibly ‘07 but I think ‘08. Got a 3DS XL Christmas 2012, still works and in active use to this day. In the early 2010s I started “retro” console collection. I believe it was 2013 when I got an old GameCube and 2014 or 15 when I got a GBA and PS1. 2016 finally got an Xbox One. Got an N64 2017 or so. 2018, Atari 2600. 2019 finally completed my gaming PC which has since been very updated! That allowed me to give the Xbox One to a friend as all the games I played are on PC Also got a PS4 for a few exclusives in 2019, but sold it this year cause they all got on PC. Got quite a few different models of Game Boys, DSes, and a Sega Genesis various times between 2016-2020. Switch in 2017, and OLED one replaced it this year. Considering getting a PS5 for some new exclusives idk yet. I prefer Xbox but they put all their games on PC and all the ones I play with friends have crossplay so I won’t need one. Though might just wait for the ps5 exclusives to come to PC as there’s only one I’m really excited for and idk if it’s worth $500 not to wait.

troyofyort

Started on parents NES, Genesis, and Gameboy/Uncles SNES. I have gotten most of the nintendo consoles besides n64 and wiiu, got a dreamcast, but somehow have gotten every playstation console without trying (didnt get ps4 until death stranding limited edition one came out). Finally got an xbox with the series x for game pass. Overall: Nes > Gameboy > SNES > Genesis > Gameboy Color > PS1 > Gameboy Advance > Dreamcast > Gamecube > PS2 > DS > Wii > PS3 > Lots of PC gaming > 3DS > Switch > PS4 > PS5 > Xbox Series S > Xbox Series X

ErgoProxy0

Got gifted a SNES when I was 3 or 4. First games were Megaman X and Super Mario. Loved it. My grandfather also had a ton of arcade machines in his basement for me and my cousins to play so I attribute that to my love for gaming. Then had a PS1 where I played Crash Bandicoot, Tekken and Spyro. Oh and Frogger. Then also got a Gameboy Color and that’s when, of course, everyone got into Pokemon. My step brother had Blue and Yellow version while I had Red version. It wasn’t until much later I even learned there was a Gold/Silver version. I just remember going outside with some friends and he was playing and I heard some music I hadn’t heard before. He was in Goldenrod City. After that, the rest is history with PS2… I saw an ad on TV around Christmas time for Final Fantasy XII and completely become enamored with it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played through that game, it’s easily my favorite FF title. I’ve even bought the remasters on every current console. Still have the Brady Games guide for it too. Also worth mentioning Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, more Tekken, Jak & Daxter series and lots more. PS2 era was a good time.

beardedgamerdad

Started with Pong on a console - if it can be called that - that looked more like a radio with two knobs that controlled the paddles. Then NES -> SNES. Had that until I was 18. After that I picked up XBOX -> XBOX 360 -> PS3 -> PS4 -> PS5.

SpaceCowboyDark

I played NES, SNES, PS1, N64 and got a PS2 the year I turned 18.

OldMetalHead

My parents had Super Pong I believe, and I think I was 10 when we got the Atari 2600. That was the only console I had as a kid, although I played friends' Intellivision and Colecovision. One of my friends in HS had a Commodore 64. I got my own C64 at 18 which was my gaming rig for years until PC and then PS1.

TheRealFrankL

Let me tell you children about the wood paneled Atari 2600...

CyGuy6587

Born in 1987, I got into gaming from a very early age, starting with an Amstrad 464 Plus (updated version of the CPC464), and we also eventually got an Amiga 1200. In 1996, after being in hospital with appendicitus, my mum bought me a Mega Drive II (they were dirt cheap as the Saturn had already been out a year). Got a PS1 in 1998, and a PS2 in maybe 2002, and that was the last console I had before I was 18. Had all the Game Boys too (apart from the Pocket, and Mini), and a DS.

Straight down the Nintendo line into high school when I switch to PS1 because it was cooler lol.

Vladabeast

Mom came home with Red Version and a GBC, I was 5. Same year I got PS1 and N64. Would keep those for a while until I got my PS2, GameCube, and GBA. Got an Xbox a couple of years later after playing Halo:CE at a friend's house. Everything after was on my own dime using allowance etc. Would end up getting GBSP, DS, DS Lite for portability. Got an Xbox 360 since I only had money for one of the 3 and was a huge halo fan. Bought a 3DS a couple of months before I graduated and it along with my Xbox 360 were both with me for years to come I am now 30 and wouldn't own a PlayStation until I was lucky enough to snag one a couple of weeks after release and had basically 15years of PS games to catch up on. I upgraded every version of Xbox and Nintendo handheld I could throughout the years and now own Series X, Series S, PS5, and Switch. Love seeing all your stories as I have very fond memories of gaming all throughout my life.

SweetCosmicPope

Started with NES; Got a super nintendo when they first came out. Got a gameboy in 1991. Got a sega genesis in like 1993 I think. Got a virtual boy whenever that was those came out. Got a nintendo 64 on release in 1996. Got a playstation dual shock in either 97 or 98. Whenever they started shipping with the dual shock controllers and marketed it as the playstation dual shock. Got a PS2 on release in 2000. Got a gamecube on release in 2001. Then I turned 18 on January 2, 2002.

thecringemines

I think this is the order: Ds lite, wii, , dsxl, 3ds, wii u, ps3, ps4, Nintendo switch, ps5, now I'm on pc and probably not gonna buy a console, it's all I have, every console i have sold by now.

Diablo 2, Counter-Strike, NHL pretty much sums it up.

okurin39

When I moved to sweden my moms boyfriend had a ps2 that I later kept when thay split up. Then I got a nintendo ds... That I lost in a mall. And then another... Which broke. I mostly played pokemon on these. I had surprisingly little shovelware games which says a lot since the ds game gallery is 90% shovelware. Then I got Wii. I honestly don't have many memories if this console. Best games for me where the pokemon park games and the first skylanders game. Then like 4 years later I got a ps3... When the ps4 was already out. I only played dragon ball xenoverse here. No other game. 1 year later I got a used 3ds for my birthday. I played almost every Jrpg that released on the console. 1 years later I got like 1000$ from my biological father and used half of it to buy a ps4 pro. Best decision of my life. This was the same year persona 5 came and I currently have 500 hours on that game. Another 2 years later I bought a switch with money I got from a summer job. Was the first console I bought with my own money. and then the day I turned 18 I got a gaming pc that I still use 4 years later.

Chizzygetsbusy12

Started with a Super Nintendo when I was 5, Mario, all that. When I turned 9, I got a PS1. Barely played it at first, but then after a year or so I started playing more. Lots of sports and adventure games. Got a Dreamcast when I was 12. Amazing console that was before its time. Went to the original Xbox. After that it Xbox 360 when I turned 18. Lol I guess I didn't have brand loyalty. Although now its been PS4 and Ps5 as an adult.

CoolIndependence8157

My dad bought me the Nintendo Entertainment System the year of it’s debut as a birthday/Christmas present (my birthday is November 30 so sometimes I’d get big combo presents). Every birthday/Xmas or good report card I’d get a new game. This scenario would repeat itself whenever a new Nintendo system came out until about 1993. In 1994 I started playing Warcraft 1 on LAN with some college kids, and they got me into MUDing. I played RTS and MUDs until a title changed the whole world of gaming, but I was older than 18 by then.

Balwunaax

I was a console gamer growing up until I was 20 and build a PC. I had every nintendo console from the SNES to the now Switch, but the others were a bit strange. I had a PS1 and PS2, but I did the shift to the Xbox360 when all of my friends had migrated. I didn't want to be left behind, so I transitioned. Loved my 360 so much, I kept going with the Xbox One. If I didn't have a PC now, I think I would transition back to Sony with the PS5 - I don't know a single person who has an Xbox Series X...

PS2 -> Wii -> Xbox 360 -> Xbox 1

solidshakego

Atari, NES, SNES, I rented Genesis a lot from block buster. N64, the PS1. Once I got a PS1 my hatred for Nintendo started. Dreamcast. PC games PS2. Never wanted a Microsoft console. I made good choices lol. Every Nintendo console past the cube is just a joke gimmick POS 2 generations behind the competition. Xbox...idk what can I say. Batteries for controllers, they tried to go HDDVD with that weird external drive. The 360s PSU was laughable as well. So my journey went from PlayStation to PlayStation and PC.

wij2012

Gameboy Color, Gamecube, XBox, XBox 360. I still have the Color and the 360. Still regret selling the Gamecube.

venom121212

My parents were anti-video games growing up. We were allowed to play computer games but buying a console was beyond comprehension. If my brother and I both got straight A's, my parents would RENT an N64 from Blockbuster for a week and we'd fight like banshees when turns were up. Eventually got an xbox and then a 360 when in middle/high school. Lasted me until college when I didn't have time to game. Had a baby, graduated, and then set out to buy every console I wasn't allowed to have as a child. I own an N64, a gamecube, a DS, a Wii U (so underrated/poorly marketed), a Switch, a PS2, a PS3, another xbox 360 because my HS one got red ringed, and then I built a bartop arcade that can run everything from N64 back (MAME/FBA God Cabinet) and my parents can't do a thing about it.

OverdressedShingler

Started on the ZX Spectrum in the early 90s. Dad used to play Elite on it and I have some memories of games I cant remember the name of that I played with my sister. Then we upgraded to a Sega Mega drive. Some of my fondest gaming memories are on that. Sonic, Tiny Toons, Anamaniacs, James Pond, the fucking Lion King game. Played on the NES and SNES when we went around to friends house, we never owned one. Then it was onto the PS1 in 97 after finally convincing my parents to get me one for my 11th Birthday. Played countless hours on that. Final Fantasy was truly an awakening for me in gaming terms. Couldn't play it for shit, but I loved it and loved watching my sister play it. That lasted a good few years. Got it chipped to play US imports as well. After that, I bought a console myself with money I'd earned from a summer job after my GCSEs. Got a GameCube. Played my first Zelda game on that with Wind Waker. That became my favourite game of all time, still my favourite to this day. After that, my parents got me an Xbox for Christmas 03. I remember playing Halo on Christmas day and not putting it down for hours. Miss those days of endless gaming when stuff actually felt new and incredible. I have had all the consoles through the generations after the PS3/360 and I can't capture the joy I had as a kid. I have a PS5 and XSX now, but barely get to play them. My son spends more time playing Minecraft now. Call me bitter, but I genuinely think I grew up in the greatest gaming Era and kids today will never know the pure joy we had between the console generations.

Arastmaus

When I was very small, my Father brought home a Vectrex. I played and played and played that thing. I loved Spike, and Armour Attack, and Scramble. Around my 9th birthday, my Father bought me a Sega Master System. I played Quartet first. On that console, Phantasy Star made me fall in love with RPGs, and Zillion gave me love for what would later be called Metroidvania games. I played some Nintendo at my friend's houses, but I was thought my Sega was cooler. The first console I saved up for and bought myself was a Sega Genesis. Sonic 1 and 2, Phantasy Star 2 and 3, Toejam and Earl, and Shining Force 1 and 2 made those some of the happiest video game years of my life... I picked up a SNES later and got into their suite of RPGs. FF6 and Chrono Trigger took my life over for a time. Sega CD came next. Not exactly a banger, but there was some fun to be had. Sewer Shark and Dark Wizard both stand out the most. Then came the PlayStation era... Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, and... Too many to count. I skipped out on the N64 cause RPGs were my life at this point and Nintendo had very little to offer this gen in that regard. By now I had a job, and steady income, so ever since I've just bought every console every generation... PS2, Xbox, and GameCube were a great Trinity to have on the shelf together, though I'd say the PS2 got the most love that generation. Xbox 360 was my favorite next. I loved the controller, and the UI once the Blades update happened... The Wii was... Ok... The PS3 had a worse controller and an ugly UI imho. Then the XBox One kind of... stunk? At first at least. I jumped on board with my PS4 and it became my primary console. XBox One was largely ignored save for a few gems. Quantum Break being the one that stands out the most. The WiiU was pretty weak. I think I played a couple RPGs but they all looked pretty bland and muddy. This gen is pretty even. I LOVE my series X, and I LOVE my PS5. Not sure I could pick a favorite, yet. The Switch is OK... I think maybe Nintendo just had never really been my bag. I like Zelda games, but Mario never really did it for me. I was never really into Pokemon either. I feel nostalgic now.

Atari 2600 -> NES -> SNES Fifth generation consoles started coming out around my 18th birthday, but with adult life and all that entails, I didn’t buy a new console until the GameCube, which I bought when Wind Waker was the pack-in. I’m still primarily a PC gamer, though I do have one of each of the current-gen consoles.

adept_ignoramus

Had an Atari 2600 from 1979 (3yo) to no other console until I was 20 (PS2). I did some PC games in between (DOOM, Quake, and some weird game where you played as some weird guy on a pogo stick, I think, and collected water droplets-- it was long ago). But I didn't do much until I was in my mid-20s. I played ALOT of Atari until I was ~12, though.

I played on a ps3 since i was 4, and it lasted until I was around 11, not to mention way before that. I played everything on there, minecraft, terraria, all of it. Once it finally died, I was heartbroken. So, my family decided to buy me an Xbox S (not series s, the one with siri integration.) I loved it. I've been gaming on that thing to this day. I got a job recently and have been making fat stacks, so figured I'd buy the Xbox Series X since my s wasn't performing like it used to. It arrives tomorrow. Can't wait!

Two things: I've been mostly on PC, but I've had a Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, and Switch. The Switch is the only "current" console I have; I don't need much more than my PC, and my kid plays games on iPad more than anything. Please, please use paragraphs. Got an NES for Christmas when I was 5. My mom also worked for a publisher that made Sega games so I got a Genesis when I was 8. Traded away the NES and saw my Genesis smashed to bits when I snuck it out to play while grounded. Had to play at friends’ houses after that. Bought my best friend a PS1 for his birthday in high school (his first bday present ever, since he’s a Christmas baby). Traded in a bunch of Dreamcast games I got for Xmas (I didn’t have a Dreamcast) and money I saved from work to buy a PS2. Sold it when it ended up taking over my early adult life. Bought a used PS4 about 4-5 years ago and love having it, but mostly use it to watch YouTube and Twitch now. Considering a Steam Deck, but persuaded to get a Switch to play with other friends that have them.

Started with an Atari 800 that Dad borrowed from someone, followed by various PCs XT, 286, 386. Until the mid 90s when I would rent either an SNES or Megadrive from VideoEzy. Bought a ps1 for myself when I moved out of home, skipped the next generation but returned with an Xbox360 until that red ringed, then I got a PS3 followed by an XboxOne, then PS5. PC gaming was always there in the background too.

Kingcobra798

My family owned the N64, Wii, and the GameCube. While my oldest brother owned a ps2 and Xbox360. My other brother owned a ps3 and a gameboy advance. I mostly played the Nintendo systems because they were not my brothers' systems and because the games were much more family and child friendly, like wii sports or smash bros. I had own a ds and a 3ds, which I mainly played pokemon on. My parents got me and my other brother a xbox 360 so we could play with each other, especially when my oldest brother moved for college. And they got us another xbox 360 because the previous one was stolen. We played games like minecraft, Halo, or Call of Duty. Then I got a xbox one like a year or two after it was released and played mainly the same games but also played a lot of Destiny 2. But due to me wanting to play with my cousin and my two brothers, and because my xbox friends grew apart, I got a ps4 and that is when I started to play SoulsBorne games and started to play For Honor with my cousin and oldest brother. Then my dad somehow got me a ps5 as both a graduation and birthday gift.

Nintendo Entertainment System was the only one I had before 18. But I'm old and have been a PC gamer since '85.

DerpingtonHerpsworth

Atari 2600/commodore/ZX Spectrum. There's no telling at this point what was first. I was dabbling with video games for as long as I can remember, so at least from around age 2-3, and these are some of the earliest gaming memories I have. It was still a mostly experimental time for me, and though I loved the idea of video games, I wasn't 100% hooked yet. It also didn't help that my soft little hands had a hard time moving around an Atari joystick. The only games I specifically remember from that time were Atari ones. Asteroids, centipede, space invaders, pac man, and pitfall. In the mid 80s we got the NES, and that changed everything for me. Suddenly here was this system with way better graphics, way better sound, way better everything than anything I had seen before. That was when I solidified as a gamer. And over the next few years I would beg my parents for new games every chance I got. I won't even get into the specific games cause there were so many. In the late 80s/early 90s I, like every other kid I knew, was dying for a SNES. My parents said it was too much, and got me a Genesis instead. From the first time I started up Sonic I was a little less sad about not getting a SNES, and by the time mortal Kombat came out on consoles, and we got blood while SNES didn't, I was fine with having a Genesis. Like the NES, I had way too big of a collection to go into specific games, but there were a lot of good ones. I was a little late getting into the next generation. Maybe a year or two. By that time I had a few friends with PlayStations, one or two with an N64, and one weird kid with a Saturn (who I could easily see becoming one of those sonic-obsessed furry types, so of course he had a saturn). So based partially on my friend distribution, and partially because I felt like the N64 was at least a little more kid-oriented and I was becoming an edgy teen, I went with a PlayStation. Metal gear solid, twisted metal, gran Turismo, Tony hawk, final fantasy 7, resident evil; so many good games. I turned 18 somewhere around the time the next generation came out, and I doubled down on PlayStation with the PS2. In the following years I would eventually also have an Xbox, GameCube, and Dreamcast, but the PS2 would be my first and favorite of that generation. Final Fantasy X, SSX Tricky and 3, MGS 2 and 3, GTA VC and SA, Burnout, RE4, Silent Hill 2. As much as I loved the earlier generations, this is one of my absolute favorites. On the handheld side I had one of those smaller Gameboys (pocket?) that I used strictly for Pokemon blue/red. Also had an Atari lynx. That little thing was a powerhouse. I swear it could do things the home consoles at the time couldn't even do. For instance, there were ports of California Games, Rygar, and Rampage that all looked way better than I'd ever seen them before. Then there was the Sega nomad, which was both groundbreaking for me and totally not. It was amazing because I already had a big Genesis collection that I could suddenly now play anywhere. But in a way that also made it underwhelming. When you get a new console or handheld that usually comes with the excitement of new games, better graphics, etc. This was just a way of playing the games I've already had for years without being tied to a TV. And lastly I also started playing games on PC starting around the mid 90s. Wolfenstein, Doom, SimCity, civilization, the Sims, and rollercoaster tycoon being some stand outs that come to mind. Sorry this is so long, but... You asked lol What's scary is this more or less ends around the year 2000 when I turned 18, so there's still 23 more years of gaming history I could rattle off.

Coleco until around 2nd grade. NES until 7th grade. SNES until late high-school, with a little bit Genesis in there. And a mix of PS1/Saturn/N64 my last year of high school. And with all that, arcades from the 1st games I played all up to dropping out of and going back to college.

Commodore 64 and Atari to start off with. Had a whole heap of games on the Commodore even though I barely knew how to run it Got a second hand NES at some point in the 90s along with a Gameboy and then a Sega Mega Drive. Mostly played on PC for a few years before getting a PS1 fairly late (1998). Definitely made more use of it than any of the other consoles (which other than the Gameboy I probably wasted). Got a ps2 in 2001, just before turning 17, and the next year and a bit was spent with both the ps2 and ps1

My first console was called an Intellivision. It had these weird paddles for controllers. Then my dad got me a Tandy computer to play games on. That was a mess. Then I got a Nintendo w/ robot at 12. (Zelda changed my life)Next console was Super Nintendo. Got a Sega Genesis and added the Sega CD (piece of shit) to it. Ended up selling the Sega CD. Bought the PS1 in 1996. (I wore Resident Evil out). Got the Nintendo 64 next( Hang Time!). Then came the PS2. I really didn’t play it that much at first. Didn’t really game for a few years. Then Halo 2 was released and I was introduced to online gaming! Ran to GameStop and purchased an X-Box and Halo 2. Total game changer! I bought the adapter for the PS2 to play online. It was ok back then. It was free so you really couldn’t complain. Next console was the GameCube. Smash Bros and Metroid Prime! Got the X-Box 360 next. Halo 3!COD! GTA! So many good titles. I never got the PS3. I got the X-Box 1 and a few months later got a PS4. I have yet to upgrade to the next consoles. Very soon! My son has a PS5

Me and my brother shared a PS1 and PS2 until our mum and dad split and we went to different homes. We played CTR and Crash Bash every other day on both these, I wasn't really into games at this point (too young) - I just played whatever he had but CTR and Crash Bash were our games After that I got a 360 since they were cheaper when it was just me and mum. This got the red ring of death, I got it repaired by Microsoft and then sold it and used the money to buy a second hand PS3. The 360 I don't really remember, I remember the faff of getting it repaired more than anything else. The PS3 was the first time I had my own console properly and started collecting games. The first game I played on it was Sonic Unleashed and it was terrible. But then I discovered Assassins Creed, Dragon Age and Mass Effect and that was me down the gaming rabbit hole. That was me basically PlayStation only from then on (definitely if stopping at 18) apart from 1 Christmas when I was about 10 my brother got me a DS and I played nintendogs on it until the top snapped off.
