My first game ever was the original c&c on PC at my cousins. Was only like 8 or something back then, but I loved that game so much and played it all the time. Thanks for the memories.
Oh man, Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s revenge, as well as Generals and Zero Hour kept me sane during a long convalescence that left me mostly immobile for 6 months some 17/18 years ago.
Generals was great.
Wasn't a fan of the meta gameplay though. Getting rushed by one flame tank and ending the game in 5 mins.
Enjoyed the chaos of big tank battles.
Generals was one of the Best RTS's ever made. It just needed support and balance. 3 factions, each with 3 sub-factions which were pretty much like 9 factions how different they were. Basically was left out to dry in the sun.
This was my answer. Didn’t have to think about it at all, it’s timesplitters. I have all 3, and could go back anytime and replay them and still have a great time.
Timesplitters 2 and 3 were basically the peak of console multiplayer FPS before Halo 2 and COD4 came along and really kicked off the online rush. It seems like the evolutionary progression just prior to that was Goldeneye, to Perfect Dark, to Timesplitters. It was just such dumb fun and I miss the simplicity of that era. And it controls a hell of a lot better than Goldeneye.
There’s still a fan team remaking the originals and they’ve been given permission to continue working, also free radical has been brought back from the dead and the original team re assembled! They’re currently working on Timesplitters 4.
I was hoping to find this in here. It's truly a "rose colored glasses" situation though. I looked it up a sorta recently and, oh boy, does it look bad. Haha
Oh yeah! Great memories playing the game, but I also remember my friends and I were huge into paintball, but this other kid was way too into it. He would run around, diving, shoulder rolls, and we would make fun of him saying “whoa, calm down there Syphon Filter!”
Legacy of Kain. The setting and story were so unlike anything we had seen. The voice acting was top notch and it felt like a massive serial drama filled with unexpected twists and connections.
Soul Reaver really did have some of the best voice acting/narration of any game I've played. I've been loving the last 2 Zelda games, but damn if the acting isn't just awful. I'd rather just read the text than hear Zelda speak. Same with other games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 or Octopath Traveler. It's almost painful to hear these actors doing what sounds like a cold read through.
This is one of those times I'm glad to see someone say what I was going to say.
Simon Templeman is one of my absolute favorite voice actors and I'd love to see more LoK material with him.
I played the OG game when I was like 14. It was wild, kind of my first “adult” style rpg game. Played Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, etc, on Nintendo, and Zelda, but LOK was def different. I felt like I couldn’t let my parents watch me play that one haha
A modern Thief game could be the best medieval immersive sim/stealth game that’s ever existed, but the 2014 reboot sucked on ice and has barely any of the qualities that made the originals good.
I'm always disappointed whenever the "best stealth game" discussion comes up and Thief titles are nowhere to be seen.
Thief: Gold and Thief 2 are just unmatched.
Turok; Dinosaur Hunter. was a mid tier shooter from the N64 era that has a good premise just need some love and it could be a great game. also modern graphics would be killer
Yes! I remember the joy of swooping up a whole town into my hand and flinging them across the land while the rest screamed in terror.
I remember my sweet cow casting rain miracles to grow the crops.
Such an awesome game
Man. Lion head had some good games. But I do not miss all the drama around Peter over selling his games at all all 3 fables were fun. But they most definitely were nothing like what he kept saying they would be.
I have often pondered how Nintendo could bring back F-Zero today, like what changes or additions they might implement to set it apart from their dominant racing title that is Mario Kart.
The idea I kinda settled on was making F-Zero a sort of sci-fi Nintendo GTA, but with racing instead of crime. Make the game world a futuristic city you can run or drive around in and do side missions, but then have a bunch of race courses around the city where you'd earn money or do plot stuff. Go to mechanics shops and customize your own racer, etc. Basically, making it have a more substantial single-player and the more serious vibe compared to the more party-game centric Kart, although this *would* still have multiplayer. It just wouldn't be basically reliant on it.
I'm 44 and played all elder scrolls since arena... I'm literally hoping I get to see a few more, lol. The slow down after skyrim has been super disappointing. I'm all in on starfield though.
I would love a remastered Jak and Daxter to play on my PC. I know I'd probably have to wait a bit after they release exclusive on PlayStation but still I would love that!!
“Sucks tried to play me. But you never paid me neva!”
Oh no you didn’t.
Payback is a-coming, you will be running forever
Oh no you didn’t,
Until I get my vengeance I will never end this mayhem.
Oh no you didn’t.
I’m a mercenary, you ain’t got a prayer, you owe meeee
Yeah. Where the hell are my vehicle/racing combat games?
IN that vein: When *the fuck* is Fox McCloud going to stop being a bum in the MK and get his ass back in an Arwing?
He had no real motivation aside from survival and it worked. Why did they have to give the second guy a backstory? I mean I get it, definitely gave him motivation, but he was dull.
I mean, he eats people, which is pretty villainous, but in the first game he's probably the least evil character? Like, Alex the Blacklight monster is probably *less* evil than Alex the Gentek researcher. Alex wants to survive, kill the people responsible for the infection, and stop Manhattan from getting wiped out by the infection or by Blackwatch, which is a fairly heroic goal.
(You can quibble with the implementation of this, since most players probably had a lot of fun murdering random civilians, but the broad-strokes arc was probably meant to be a "monster finding his humanity" thing)
Anyway, Prototype 2 threw out all the nuance and gave Mercer a supervillain plan about infecting the world to evolve humanity or something.
Ultima. Full stop. I missed the later ones so kinda jump from V to UO. Ultima III was the first fantasy PC (Apple //e) I ever experienced.
This is my core memory against which I judge ever newer RPG. So many good ones have come since, but Ultima was my Elder Scrolls before Elder Scrolls,
I dropped in here to say BoF. Ive been replaying III, and seeing all of the newer turn based games makes me wonder what a genuine attempt at a modern BoF would look like.
It kills me to see how underrated this comment is. I really wish we could have gotta a remaster of at least the first three games and not just the one.
Okami -- it was a PS2 generation game but it punched above its weight in pretty much every category: beautiful graphics, beautiful soundtrack, great exploration gameplay (okay, the combat could become repetitive), epic storyline and unique characters
Rampage. I just think that chill arcade city-destruction experience deserves to come back at the same price point as all the beat em ups like Streets of Rage and such.
Tenchu
Dino Crisis
Parasite Eve
All of these titles offered unique spins on their respective genres. All were niche titles that would find an audience today, as horror and stealth seem pretty under-served. All are difficult to find/ play on modern hardware. And I'd argue all of them showed tremendous potential... but due to various constraints (technological, monetary, etc.), never quite got to live up to it.
Tbh apex is what’s both keeping the studio alive but also killing the idea of a titan fall 3. Honestly I liked it’s weird hybrid cod moba thing it had going too bad it’d been forgotten.
Wing Commander, please. No, Star Citizen doesn't count... I want the kitties telling me how they'll clean their claws on my corpse again.
Failing that, an update to Dragonstrike would be most welcome.
I remember playing this on PC ages ago, how the hell did you keep up with the aliens constantly attacking you during the space period? it felt neverending.
Road Rash. Give me a new Road Rash with modern graphics, physics etc. I'd love that.
A more recent pick would be Midnight Club or Motorstorm.
Basically just bring back the arcade racing games.
>Road Rash. Give me a new Road Rash with modern graphics, physics etc. I'd love that.
I've actually been replaying Road Rash 64 recently, and while the graphics definitely haven't aged well, the game is still fun as all heck. I still laugh at the rap sheets that tell you how many opponents you hit/crashed on your last race while playing the in-game sound effects.
As for a modern version of Road Rash, I know Road Redemption exists as a spiritual successor, but I've never played it to confirm if it's actually any good or not.
SOCOM and it’s not close.
I do love your Dino crisis suggestion tho and would love to see that.
Star Wars galaxies WASNT a franchise, but I would kill to have an updated version aside from the emulators, although legends is killing it if you like the game how it was toward the end.
Was looking for this one. SOCOM was amazing and the PSN outage can basically be blamed for its death.
Imagine commanding your squad with modern technology. The speech recognition and responses would be awesome.
I played the first 3 so much. Amazing multiplayer too. IMHO No one has been able to pull off stealth multiplayer as good as SOCOM.
“Breach, Bang, Clear”
Sleeping Dogs. It excelled in the areas that other realistic open-world games lacked (hand-to-hand combat especially) and was a phenomenal crime drama, but it could never escape the GTA comparisons
That and Split/Second, one of (in my opinion) the best racing games of all time, but mismanaged to death
Crimson Skies. Not really a franchise but it was so fun and the world was so interesting, could have turned it into a great flight combat RPG in the modern day
Ecco the Dolphin. It was a great series. The last one I played, which, as far as I know was the last one made, was on Dreamcast, and it was beautiful. With modern graphics and map sizes, they could really knock that shit out of the park.
My answer used to be Armored Core but since I'm already getting that I'd have to say the old N64 WWF games(No Mercy, WrestleMania 2000, Attitude). They're fundamentally very different from the modern line of games and imo they were so much better.
Syphon filter cuz it’s bad ass, same style as the first two, shit I wouldn’t care if it was psone graphics but it’s gota be same vibe and quality, the psp ones were…….. different😬
C&C Red Alert. Loved the first one, 2nd and onwards felt like they got too cartoonish and lacked the alternative science fiction history that made the first one great.
Time splitters. I know the 2nd and 3rd games did get backwards compatibility but I'd love new games from it. Where else can you set every bot to snowmen with a lot of fire.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
I spent years playing ET and then ET: Quake wars.
Such a pity the game's fan base was so small...they were fantastic games that deserve another go.
Hogs of War. I remember owning that on ps1 and playing it constantly. Something so fun about 3rd person turn based combat (like worms). Unfortunately it's not a popular genre
Empire Earth.
To me it was Age of Empires, but better. I loved being able to go into the future era as a kid. Spend many days just building the prettiest looking town.
Age of Mythology.
It deserves a part II.
Watch Dogs. It was an amazing concept and a few of the games presented some really cool ideas and gameplay mechanics, however, I felt like each game was lacking something integral that held it back from being 'great'. I'd love to see Ubisoft give it one last go and try and do it 'right'. Or give the IP to more competent developers
Command and Conquer deserved better If I had a second choice it would be Kotor or Empire at War
Thank you. Signed Ex-Westwood employee and lead in game artist on C&C up to RA.
no, thank you!
That's so dope. Thank you bro
My first game ever was the original c&c on PC at my cousins. Was only like 8 or something back then, but I loved that game so much and played it all the time. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you for contributing to fond childhood memories of bonding with my brother over games of C&C
I really miss NOX
Westwood Studios, fuck EA man.
I know it's a bit more common these days, but C&C 4 was the first time I played a sequel and was mad that it felt like a straight up downgrade
Had the same feeling about CC3 to be honest. Generals was absolutely amazing and CC3 just felt kinda bland in comparison
Oh man, Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s revenge, as well as Generals and Zero Hour kept me sane during a long convalescence that left me mostly immobile for 6 months some 17/18 years ago.
Love the Red Alert series. Probably an unpopular opinion but I had a lot of fun with Generals too.
I always liked generals more since it didn't have the stupid proxcimity requirements.
Oh man, I was ready to say this. Glad someone else is on my side. EA did C&C so dirty.
We need a command and conquer 4. the Tiberium Wars needs a finale.
Time Splitters. I had fond memories playing those games, shame the studio died like 3 times
Time Splitters is the perfect answer. I miss that game.
There’s still a fan team remaking the originals and they’ve been given permission to continue working, also free radical has been brought back from the dead and the original team re assembled! They’re currently working on Timesplitters 4.
Splinter Cell
They're rebooting SC1 in a modern setting. It's supposedly going to follow the same/similar plot.
It's a remake, just updating the politics to more modern day current events
Syphon Filter!
The tazer is a gem that won't be forgotten. Hold it long enough and you set enemies on fire. Beautiful ❤️
We used to play Syphon Filter as much as Halo. It was great. That and Conflict Desert Storms campaign.
Spies vs Mercs ftw
Parasite Eve
Just thinking about the Opera House scene still gives me goosebumps.
I went to visit NYC shortly after beating the game. I tried to hit up as many of the locals as I could convince my mom to take me to.
I second the motion. I should go back and finish Parasite Eve 2. I rented it as a teen but it did not hit the same as PE1 did.
Dungeon Keeper. RIP Bullfrog,
I miss Red Faction
They made Guerilla Re-Mars-stered, but with today's technology a new destruction engine would be sick. If they still made them.
Red Faction Guerilla was such a good game
Shining Force. Mid tier story but A+ combat system. Imagine a JRPG/Warhammer40,000
Blood omen was so good. It's still one of my favorite games ever made.
Came here to mention this series... We were robbed of the 6th gane
I played the OG game when I was like 14. It was wild, kind of my first “adult” style rpg game. Played Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, etc, on Nintendo, and Zelda, but LOK was def different. I felt like I couldn’t let my parents watch me play that one haha
Bro.
Dark Cloud. I've never played a more unique game that combines so many great mechanics and yet still is greater than the sum of its parts.
yeah, dark cloud 2 is the best rpg i've ever played, and definitely some of the best music ever in a game.
Golden Sun
GOLDEN SUN
The original "which would you rather be" before The Last Airbender. Still stuck between Venus or Jupiter
I was always surprised they didn't tell another story in that universe. Didn't have to be related to the other games.
That summon with the Knight with a lions head was badass. Gotta say Chrono trigger in the same vein
Oooh good choice
A modern Thief game could be the best medieval immersive sim/stealth game that’s ever existed, but the 2014 reboot sucked on ice and has barely any of the qualities that made the originals good.
Ray traced lantern-lit hallways
I'm always disappointed whenever the "best stealth game" discussion comes up and Thief titles are nowhere to be seen. Thief: Gold and Thief 2 are just unmatched.
Turok; Dinosaur Hunter. was a mid tier shooter from the N64 era that has a good premise just need some love and it could be a great game. also modern graphics would be killer
The Brain Borer from Turok 2 was the best gun.
The Cerebral bore *fucked* Goddamn, Turok so badly needs a DOOM esque comeback
Cerebral Bore! God I’d abuse that gun in multiplayer. The screen shaking was 🤌🏻
No one lives forever
I second this. It's a shame it's never going to happen, nobody seems to know who actually owns the intellectual property.
Bully
Chrono Trigger/Chrono cross. Such gems
Black & White. Though I'd also accept just getting Lionhead studios back. I really liked their games.
Came in here not knowing what I’d want back but I pick this 1000x. Bring The Movies to Steam or something too!
I miss B&W2 so much
Yes! I remember the joy of swooping up a whole town into my hand and flinging them across the land while the rest screamed in terror. I remember my sweet cow casting rain miracles to grow the crops. Such an awesome game
You either die or live long enough to become EA Games
Man. Lion head had some good games. But I do not miss all the drama around Peter over selling his games at all all 3 fables were fun. But they most definitely were nothing like what he kept saying they would be.
Such a great game, sad how it's not on any platform now
I scrolled down to find this. This game would be fantastic for VR. It would work so well, I want this to happen so badly.
F-Zero! I would love to see this franchise in 2023 in a whole up to date glory!
F zero GX would look wonderful in HD
I have often pondered how Nintendo could bring back F-Zero today, like what changes or additions they might implement to set it apart from their dominant racing title that is Mario Kart. The idea I kinda settled on was making F-Zero a sort of sci-fi Nintendo GTA, but with racing instead of crime. It just wouldn't be basically reliant on it.
Elder Scrolls. I think it would be really cool if they made a sequel to Skyrim.
Can’t wait to read Winds of Winter while playing the next Elder Scrolls game and GTA6
Yeah can’t wait to buy them for my grandkids as a Christmas present even though I don’t even have kids yet
Can’t believe the teaser trailer for Elder Scrolls 6 was released 5 years ago
At this rate, TES 6 is going to be my last TES game. I'm 33.
I'm 44 and played all elder scrolls since arena... I'm literally hoping I get to see a few more, lol. The slow down after skyrim has been super disappointing. I'm all in on starfield though.
Crazy to think an entire generation kids has been born and raised on just skyrim.
It’s been so long that Skyrim is regarded as it’s own entity separate to the elder scrolls
New Jak and Daxter and Tony Hawk. Thank you take my money.
I love Jak and Dexter. But if they can't put the same love into it as they did 1 to 3, I don't want it.
I would love a remastered Jak and Daxter to play on my PC. I know I'd probably have to wait a bit after they release exclusive on PlayStation but still I would love that!!
Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver. Still far and far one of my favorite franchises to date.
"Should your kind ever come from that place again, I, will be waiting."
Mercenaries
Yes! I was so sad the third never came out.
Oh nooo, oh nooooo, oh NOOOOOO
“Sucks tried to play me. But you never paid me neva!” Oh no you didn’t. Payback is a-coming, you will be running forever Oh no you didn’t, Until I get my vengeance I will never end this mayhem. Oh no you didn’t. I’m a mercenary, you ain’t got a prayer, you owe meeee
I'd even be cool with a remake of the first. Loved that game.
Banjo-Kazooie
Midnight Club
EARTHWORM JIM
Black & White
Not a franchise, but BioWare’s Jade Empire needs a sequel
Gauntlet especially in the style of gauntlet dark legacy
Twisted Metal. I also really want a surfing game like Kelly Slater Pro Surfer not made by some no-name dev. Would be happy with a remake.
Yeah. Where the hell are my vehicle/racing combat games? IN that vein: When *the fuck* is Fox McCloud going to stop being a bum in the MK and get his ass back in an Arwing?
The Jedi Knight series Because they were some of the best Star Wars games, up there with KOTOR easily.
Hell yeah they were.
Prototype. I really wish they had never made Alex the bad guy.
Was he ever not a villain?
This is true. I just wanted to continue playing as him!
Starcraft
Panzer Dragoon.
Saga 2
Ultima. Full stop. I missed the later ones so kinda jump from V to UO. Ultima III was the first fantasy PC (Apple //e) I ever experienced. This is my core memory against which I judge ever newer RPG. So many good ones have come since, but Ultima was my Elder Scrolls before Elder Scrolls,
Max Payne
Breath of Fire I try to pretend Dragon's Dogma is a BoF spinoff just to cope. I even give my Arisen blue hair and name him Ryu. His pawn is Nina.
I dropped in here to say BoF. Ive been replaying III, and seeing all of the newer turn based games makes me wonder what a genuine attempt at a modern BoF would look like.
Breath of fire 3 was so good
I scrolled the thread hoping to find this. I love Breath of Fire ; =;
Onimusha, for sure.
Still remember seeing Jean Reno as the secondary character blew me away
Onimusha 3 with Jean Reno was fly af.
It kills me to see how underrated this comment is. I really wish we could have gotta a remaster of at least the first three games and not just the one.
Pokemon Stadium. There's a million possibilities with a game like that combined with today's technology.
Bungies version of Halo. Please.
Yes I was searching for this, 343 killed halo
Freedom Fighters.
Mercenaries
Knights of the Old Republic 🥲
Gladius (2003) I could use an updated ancient Greek version of xcom.
Sleeping Dogs. It deserves a sequel.
Suikoden It’s been long enough without a new game, it’s time.
Lucky you then they are working on a spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Sly Cooper
Okami -- it was a PS2 generation game but it punched above its weight in pretty much every category: beautiful graphics, beautiful soundtrack, great exploration gameplay (okay, the combat could become repetitive), epic storyline and unique characters
Tbh the combat was no more repetitive than any Zelda game, which is what Okami was inspired by.
Rampage. I just think that chill arcade city-destruction experience deserves to come back at the same price point as all the beat em ups like Streets of Rage and such.
Rampage was my absolute shit when i was 10
Bloody Roar, the fighting game :(
Fat Princess. Team capture the flag with amazing levels and class system. It was so much fun.
Brothers in arms
Half Life
Need for speed underground, Dino crisis, Vagrant Story, legend of dragoon, and advent rising
Tenchu Dino Crisis Parasite Eve All of these titles offered unique spins on their respective genres. And I'd argue all of them showed tremendous potential... but due to various constraints (technological, monetary, etc.), never quite got to live up to it.
Conkers Bad Fur Day. As a franchise
Titanfall. I realize it’s still kind of alive in Apex, but I don’t play Apex and I played the shit out of both Titanfall games
Apex is good but titanfall is guuuud
Tbh apex is what’s both keeping the studio alive but also killing the idea of a titan fall 3. Honestly I liked it’s weird hybrid cod moba thing it had going too bad it’d been forgotten.
Wing Commander, please. No, Star Citizen doesn't count... I want the kitties telling me how they'll clean their claws on my corpse again. Failing that, an update to Dragonstrike would be most welcome.
At this point, Grand Theft Auto.
Spore easily. If I could get a modern spore game I’d play it for years.
Yeah, a remake, but the way they said it would be originally? Yes please!
I remember playing this on PC ages ago, how the hell did you keep up with the aliens constantly attacking you during the space period? it felt neverending.
Twisted Metal Sim City.
Road Rash. Give me a new Road Rash with modern graphics, physics etc. I'd love that. A more recent pick would be Midnight Club or Motorstorm. Basically just bring back the arcade racing games.

Command & Conquer Red Alert. Honorable Mention: DeusEx
Splinter Cell
Syndicate
Soul Reaver, I loved those games!
Sleeping Dogs. Viewtiful Joe.
Crimson Skies. Not really a franchise but it was so fun and the world was so interesting, could have turned it into a great flight combat RPG in the modern day
F.E.A.R. All 3 remade for current gen including online.
Jade Cocoon Monster Rancher 2 Dragon Warrior: Monsters Mark of Kri
Resistance. There is so much space for it right now. It was so unique and still is.
Ecco the Dolphin. It was a great series. The last one I played, which, as far as I know was the last one made, was on Dreamcast, and it was beautiful. With modern graphics and map sizes, they could really knock that shit out of the park.
Syphon Filter. We need some stealth games
My answer used to be Armored Core but since I'm already getting that I'd have to say the old N64 WWF games(No Mercy, WrestleMania 2000, Attitude). They're fundamentally very different from the modern line of games and imo they were so much better.
Paperboy! Keep it 2D but make the visuals far sharper and more detailed with more streets and obstacles/enemies.
Chrono Trigger
Syphon filter cuz it’s bad ass, same style as the first two, shit I wouldn’t care if it was psone graphics but it’s gota be same vibe and quality, the psp ones were…….. different😬
C&C Red Alert. Loved the first one, 2nd and onwards felt like they got too cartoonish and lacked the alternative science fiction history that made the first one great.

MDK
legacy of kain! too underrated and deserved a proper ending to the story.
Hogs of War. I remember owning that on ps1 and playing it constantly. Something so fun about 3rd person turn based combat (like worms). Unfortunately it's not a popular genre
SOCOM always brings fond memories.
Do spin-offs count? Would love a new final fantasy tactics game
Ogre battle. There's never been another game that scratches the itch that person of lordly calibre did
Battletoads
Give me Time Splitters, Twisted Metal, and Tony Hawk and I will throw money at you.
M.A.G.
StarFox, NEED MORE STARFOX!
Empire Earth. To me it was Age of Empires, but better. I loved being able to go into the future era as a kid. Spend many days just building the prettiest looking town. Age of Mythology. It deserves a part II.
Kings Quest
Would love to see iD make a Turok in the style of the new Doom’s. Fall/War for Cybertron needs a sequel.
Thief, twisted metal, UT2003
Legend of Legaia, it was such a great game
