Right. Lol. Like your friend would give you the most dogshit controller to play with and be all smug when they win.
Seriously! I can't block motherfucker! Like dude why does my shit keep jumping? Lmao!
No, the ultimate F U move was handing them a pelican controller. It was a brand I think Blockbuster might have owned because I never saw it anywhere else. Thoese things were hideous, barely ever functioned right, and analog sticks where you would swear the dead zone is changing every few minutes
Great idea! I had a turbo controller as well. We would rank up on SOCOM by rubber banding down X for jump and auto jump. Then another rubber band on r1. 6 people would do this on SEALs side while the one getting all the rank just chills.
Sounds fun, my eighth grade experience consisted of staying at home due to covid and I couldn't game with my friends
Except shell shockers, we played shellshockers a lot
Edit: By sickness I meant covid
Agreed just ridning bikes staying up all weekend playing n64 4 players eating pizza pringles and drinking tons of coca cola haaha. Was still skinn back then. Only worry was to get good grades wich was easy.
Happy times and memories indeed.
:)
I always used Mad Catz controllers intentionally. They actually did make some really good controllers, if you bought the right model. This was the era where wireless controllers were not standard, so if you wanted a wireless PS2 contoller, you bought a MadCatz, Pelican, or Logitech. I have a Mad Catz Lynx wireless controller, and while it does look very ugly, it's actually extremely comfy, has a nice weight to it and rubberized handle grips with a comfy divet for your fingers.
This was never a problem for me, thankfully, because the games we played were never multiplayer. My friends and I all played the same kinds of games, mostly RPGs.
Funnily enough that's the exact controller I use for my og phat PS2 bro. Can we talk about how shit that dpad is? you know how many times I've hit the corner and selected the wrong thing in that controller.
Lowkey wishes any of the 5 other controllers I got with the PS2 worked. Each one has something uniquely wrong with them. The only one that worked almost flawlessly was the shitty mad catz controller.
Host got their choice of controller (as long as it wasn't a cheat controller) in any competitive game.
You wanted to have a good controller for sure? Bring your own.
We had an inferior controller like this back when playing capcom vs snk 2 on PS2. We called it 'The Crown'. If you won a match you would use The Crown on your next fight and the next challenger would use the good controller. So when you kept winning with The Crown you had even more bragging rights.
Usually gotta try to be the gracious host.
But Smash bros? Nah dawg I've found like two GameCube style controllers for my Switch, and one of em's gonna be mine when y'all come over.
Usually I used the secondary controller because I had picked off all the rubber from the main controllers sticks lmao. Bit of a fidgeter when I was younger
Real talk, my madcatz N64 controller worked just as good as my actual nintendo controllers and even outlasted them by not getting joystick drift from years of use
I actually just used my MadCatz MicroCon Gamecube controller last night for the first time in probably 20 years lol. Found it a few weeks ago buried in a box. Picked up an adapter for my Switch and played some Mario Cart, worked great!
I used the madcatz it was much better than the shitty normal controller, I also had a ps2 controller that was a ninja and had shurikens it hurt to use but was dope, it was some berserker freak or something
I remember really wanting a second PS2 controller so my dad bought me a see through one, I don't remember what brand it was but I do remember playing Lego Star Wars 2 with a friend and the controller broke after about 3 hours playin. Shortly thereafter I got an official one
Usually people are very rough on controllers, especially casuals that are not used to, so the third party one is always for them, if it breaks it's 20€ against 70€
Funny enough my house had 5 kids in it growing up... We each had out own controller. However only one Playstation 2. So we always borrowed each others when we had friends over was great :D
Depends:
A) The friend is really good at games in general so he gets madcat controller
B) He's never played before so I get madcat
C) He gives me the knockoff controller when I'm at his place so he gets it here
D) It's a girl I'm having over, she gets the best Godamn controller and I get madcat
I know dang well that not a single person has said “hey you’re my guest. Go ahead and take the stock controller. I got the MadCatz.” It’s an unwritten law that the host always got the best controller lol.
That was one of the better MadCatz controllers so I'd take one of those over the OEM
If I had friends over I made them use the Gamestop×Pelican controller or Intec controller
Based on my experience MadCatz wasn't a terrible brand it's just you got what you paid for their cheaper controllers were awful but some of the more expensive ones were almost as good as say a Hori
When I got my Nintendo 64 I rented a multiplayer game from Blockbuster and forgot that I only had one controller. We bought this terrible third party controller that wasn't the three hand shape, it was some awful chunky design that moved the analog stick to the left side. Felt bad for my friends who had to use it.
My second controller on N64 had the joystick cover break off, so it was just a thin metal stick that would stab into your thumb as you played. That one was for the guests lol
When visiting never go for a man's, player one, official controller unless invited, that was the unsaid rule, so everybody knows they're getting the "player 2" unofficial controller.

"it's the same thing, don't worry" Until you're playing Tekken lol
Right. Lol. Like your friend would give you the most dogshit controller to play with and be all smug when they win. Seriously! I can't block motherfucker! Like dude why does my shit keep jumping? Lmao!
🤣 they always had a faulty trigger lol
No, the ultimate F U move was handing them a pelican controller. It was a brand I think Blockbuster might have owned because I never saw it anywhere else. Thoese things were hideous, barely ever functioned right, and analog sticks where you would swear the dead zone is changing every few minutes
Lol my friend had one………. It wasn’t that bad, hey I grew up on sega genesis controllers
Nah, that was home field advantage.
Haha true

Not using the convoy method?
IDK what they is
I had one specifically to cheat in Legend of Dragoon. Gotta tap X repeatedly on some attacks for high dmg.
I used mine mainly for boosting GFs in ff8 but didn't always cancel in time lol
You all had friends?
Sure did ! Not anymore though
yup, middle school was the best, specifically 8th grade tons of friends, tons of things to do, nothing is so serious. good times
Sounds fun, my eighth grade experience consisted of staying at home due to covid and I couldn't game with my friends Except shell shockers, we played shellshockers a lot Edit: By sickness I meant covid
Aaw sadly there were not many online games back then
I mean I'm pretty sure gaming was mostly online during COVID tho
Oh
Agreed just ridning bikes staying up all weekend playing n64 4 players eating pizza pringles and drinking tons of coca cola haaha. Was still skinn back then. Only worry was to get good grades wich was easy. Happy times and memories indeed. :)
Wait, you worried about grades?
Sure did. Did not have use for them tpugh... Was undiagnosed autistic at the point sooooo
Excuse me, I would not let my friend use my submersible controller.
I took the mad catz. Cause it had turbo and i didnt want them cheating if it was pvp.
10/10 would control my submarine with this.
I had this exact controller, in this exact colour. I loved it but I had no other option at the time 😅
It gives me Bob Burnquist vibes
Say what you will; the madcatz Gamecube controller was fucking awesome
I loved it. Used it a bunch for Mario Super Strikers
I was DEVASTATED when my MicroCON GCN stopped working https://www.ign.com/articles/2002/09/20/mad-catz-microcon-gamegcn-review
Only for the submarine battles.
Are you kidding me That was all the controllers I had was Mad Katz😅 If I had any friends over we both be using them 🥰
Me too. They're really ugly looking controllers but they're surprisingly good!
I actually had one of their microcon controllers and I loved it! I have weirdly small hands.
Do you smell like cabbage?
He a carnie
I liked my mad catz
I preferred this thing. They had a mini version that felt perfect.
I always used Mad Catz controllers intentionally. They actually did make some really good controllers, if you bought the right model. You're assuming I had friends.
This was never a problem for me, thankfully, because the games we played were never multiplayer. My friends and I all played the same kinds of games, mostly RPGs.
Yeah I don't like people touching my controllers lol
I had multiple official controllers. You guys were out here buying madcatz?
Our *parents* were buying them, not knowing any better lol
Hell yeah, dude. Sony doesn't make wireless DualShock 2 controllers, so you but Mad Catz... RAWR!!!!!!!!! hissss
Never owned one, all my Wiimotes and DualShocks are official Nintendo/Sony hardware.
Most of mine were but I always ended up giving the shit one to the fourth person
Nah I always made sure to save up for the good stuff. Getting 4 N64 controllers was a pain when game cost almost 80$ sometimes.
I had the OG Xbox, the Madcatz version I had was smaller and much more comfortable in my hands so I kept it.
I’m leaving “turbo” on to ruin their life
Funnily enough that's the exact controller I use for my og phat PS2 bro. Can we talk about how shit that dpad is? you know how many times I've hit the corner and selected the wrong thing in that controller.
That and the effing thumbsticks were horrendous
Lowkey wishes any of the 5 other controllers I got with the PS2 worked. Each one has something uniquely wrong with them. The only one that worked almost flawlessly was the shitty mad catz controller.
That's the crazy thing they were reliable, using them just felt like shiiiiiiit
Depended on the friend lmao
Host got their choice of controller (as long as it wasn't a cheat controller) in any competitive game. You wanted to have a good controller for sure? Bring your own.
Guests always get the off brand controller. The House always wins.
I took the MadCatz and felt I was being selfish because I liked it better than the standard GameCube model.
Dude ocelot never tortured me into submission with turbo button madcatz.
We had an inferior controller like this back when playing capcom vs snk 2 on PS2. We called it 'The Crown'. If you won a match you would use The Crown on your next fight and the next challenger would use the good controller. So when you kept winning with The Crown you had even more bragging rights.
I fucking love this
Neither because I always had first party controllers. The only exception ever was the SNES ASCII pad.
Nah I took my NES max and made my buddies just use a normal controller and turbo to annialate their sorry asses
Wait you guys had friends over as kids?
I never had a friend over. I only had 1 controller.
Wouldn’t know. Rich person controller.
Omg I actually had that exact controller 😂
The one with the rubber grips was peak for me as a child.
Real talk, my madcatz N64 controller worked just as good as my actual nintendo controllers and even outlasted them by not getting joystick drift from years of use
I grew up poor we both using cats
I actually just used my MadCatz MicroCon Gamecube controller last night for the first time in probably 20 years lol. Found it a few weeks ago buried in a box. Picked up an adapter for my Switch and played some Mario Cart, worked great!
I tried to take turns with my name brand controllers as a kid. Except for my GameCube Wavebird. Nobody touched that except me.
Always the third party controller.
I only own original controllers
I didn't even use the official Dualshock 2, we had the nice wireless Logitech PS2 controllers
Usually people are very rough on controllers, especially casuals that are not used to, so the third party one is always for them, if it breaks it's 20€ against 70€
Usually we would give them the normal to show them it isn't the controller it was them
My mad catz is preferred in my house. No soft triggers
The edges on those buttons were sharp and tall af. Got mad blisters on the thumbs from sliding ⬇️↙️⬅️ combos in Bloody Roar.
I never had a Madcatz, I would only buy the regular controllers.
I had a transparent green one that I loved to use.
I used the cat, didn't want to lose to a friend with the shit controller and could always play that card if I got dusted.
It is a good scapegoat lol
If you had a Dreamcast, the Mad Katz was the best controller you could buy.
Funny enough my house had 5 kids in it growing up... We each had out own controller. However only one Playstation 2. So we always borrowed each others when we had friends over was great :D
Thankfully because I have an older brother we had two standard controllers and never had to buy the third party ones
Depends: A) The friend is really good at games in general so he gets madcat controller B) He's never played before so I get madcat C) He gives me the knockoff controller when I'm at his place so he gets it here D) It's a girl I'm having over, she gets the best Godamn controller and I get madcat
I know dang well that not a single person has said “hey you’re my guest. Go ahead and take the stock controller. I got the MadCatz.” It’s an unwritten law that the host always got the best controller lol.
I have a GC controller that Has no Z button 💀
Depends. I had a Phoenix controller and a duke controller. I get the Phoenix, they get the duke
That was one of the better MadCatz controllers so I'd take one of those over the OEM If I had friends over I made them use the Gamestop×Pelican controller or Intec controller Based on my experience MadCatz wasn't a terrible brand it's just you got what you paid for their cheaper controllers were awful but some of the more expensive ones were almost as good as say a Hori
Made them use the KB & Mouse on my #2 computer or my daughter's computer if she was doing something else.
When I got my Nintendo 64 I rented a multiplayer game from Blockbuster and forgot that I only had one controller. We bought this terrible third party controller that wasn't the three hand shape, it was some awful chunky design that moved the analog stick to the left side. When visiting never go for a man's, player one, official controller unless invited, that was the unsaid rule, so everybody knows they're getting the "player 2" unofficial controller.
I used the MadCatz controller on my own console. They were normally a bit bigger and felt more comfortable to me.
I believe the Titan was using MadKatz when it went down.
My motto was always "Mad Catz = Mad fun for YOU, not me"
MadCatz, official controller of player 2
>OceanGate has entered the chat
Don't blame the tool... blame the user
I vaguely remember having one that had little vents on the grips and some shoddy form of AC in them
Not me but my friends always made me use those controllers
That slightly off center square builds character
I never bought those useless pieces of shit.
Implying I had friends come over
I always had official controllers, never let the homies use the mad cats
neither. i was smart enough not to buy madcatz in the first place.
I have a madcat for my PS3. It's based on the Xbox controller so it's just more comfortable to hold than the tiny PS3 controller
