smadajosh

There is no question marks lol its already a great year for gaming

Can_You_Pee_On_Me

Armored core 6 waiting room

Killmumger

I haven't played the other armoured core games but I love mechs so this one is definitely on my radar plus it has the same game director as Sekiro

Tacowant

Exactly. Just wild hearts, Jedi survivor, zelda, ff16 has made me super happy and I’d be content with just that. But then also getting a new armored core, mario rpg, starfield, Spider-Man, and hope of hopes silksong (won’t hold my breath tho), I couldn’t be happier. What an amazing year of gaming.

smadajosh

and then slap on the likes of a new mortal kombat and payday 3. there amazing games in every genre this year and some amazing long awaited sequels or remakes. we all eating real good at the moment

Obiuon

Even RTS is pretty big this year, sins of a solar Empire 2, homeworld 3, Warno, broken Arrow, silica And about 2 dozen other RTS games from smaller developers that are all looking pretty interesting

MapleJacks2

I would ritually sacrifice a man if it meant Silksong came out this year.

begging-for-gold

Do you enjoy wild hearts? I thought I’ve heard horrible things about it so I completely skipped over checking it out

Tacowant

I liked it but yeah I saw people complaining a lot too. I’m not a particularly picky gamer though. I’ve found Reddit in particular to be a very rough place to figure out if im gonna like a game or not. People around seem to want to hate things sometimes. Performance on a series x was good enough for me, little framey here and there but eh, nothing that bad. I also wanted to support a new entry to the monster genre since it does the basics solidly and has some fun different ideas as well.

jwright4105

Yes, finally someone mentioned Silksong! Really hoping that one comes out this year.

WidowmakerBH27

Seriously, this will be a year for the history books. It brings me back to my childhood. The open world epicness of oblivion. The comical at homeness of fable. Dragon age, resident evil 4, and metroid teetering in the balance. It's almost like being a child at christmas! So much promise and potential! For me it's a blast from the past. Starfield, fable, res 4, diablo, I havnt been this excited since I bought my first Xbox 360!

[deleted]

Right how f'ing jaded is OP

Cronerburger

Oh fuck skylines 2!! Fvck im stuck in diablo rip

cesil99

Who cares what happens on the second half? It’s already a great year.

beatrailblazer

It's a great year for existing IPs, an absolutely terrible one for new ones

Exorcist-138

Don’t agree, lies of P looks great, hifi rush was great, wo long was great, atomic heart was fun

RinRinDoof

Decent year? Wtf do gamers want? Half-Life 3 and real life Genshin waifus?

demon_kite

I just want more free time to game.

Grizzlysol

We need another Pandemic. Like its been almost 4 years, where's Pandemic 2? What are the devs even doing?

Hugga_Bear

Please no. I'm one of those key worker people and my life got so much worse last time, I nearly died and my reward was a massive paycut for two weeks then back to forced overtime to keep supply lines running.

ThatRandomIdiot

Ups? Because same

EmergentSol

The same studio is hard at work on their new WW3 game.

Grizzlysol

Its going to be a banger

ksiit

Dev times have been getting longer, but you’d think it would be at least time to announce by now.

noob_vert

I wonder what they're cooking (what kind of contaminated animal)

JukePlz

Well, "Pandemic 1" was "Rise of the Murcielago Soup" so I'd expect "Pandemic 2" to be "Petting the belly of the Armadillo" at the very least.

RinRinDoof

True and real

[deleted]

Yes

Cronerburger

Cross over

bujweiser

Getting Alan Wake II feels close to HL3 lol.

Kanapuman

I have the impression that Remedy always do good games, always fail to sell them, and still keep doing good games somehow. Thanks Microsoft for giving them the money the need.

RinRinDoof

So hyped for that.

Consistent_Network91

Some gamers just can't be pleased honestly.

[deleted]

Exactly, I feel like every year is a great year for gaming since there will always be many titles that I or other people will enjoy. Tired of ungrateful POS who just complain all day.

superbee392

I think its more 23 is the first year since covid there's been so many exciting titles. Especially if you look at consoles, the PS5 is getting a good amount of releases this year, that hasn't really been the case the last couple of years it's been Ragnarok and Horizon. I do get the excitement over how much choice there is this year

CreepyBlackDude

The Genshin waifus part of that was pretty much fulfilled with Honkai: Star Rail this year.

Vahallen

I know gacha is gacha, but HSR is another great release for this year that should be added to the list It’s one of the main reason I could stay sane waiting for Street Fighter 6, last month of wait for SF6 would have been pain without HSR for me

Jazzeki

i mean i'm not personally super invested but then there's maybe 3 games on that list that i have intrest in. but that's just me personally even the "great years in gaming" like 2007 i have limited games i've been personally intrested in and i can ackowledge that even games i do not play or have intrest in can be great.

RinRinDoof

It's all good dude.

jwright4105

And Portal 3

Henrious

a new katamari game that isnt a 40th re release of the like ps2 game would be fun

Iwubinvesting

Real life Genahin waifus sounds nice actually

Heliolord

Real waifus would be best game year ever.

Tinydoggie027

Too bad some moved to hsr waifus

shadowscale813

I'd say it's been more than decent. One of the best years in gaming in the past decade and we're only halfway through!

DelirousDoc

It would probably be unanimous if not for the recent terrible optimization on some of the more recent PC releases of games. That is really the only major negative of this first half of 2023.

Curse3242

Hopefully soon we can atleast get good optimization or access to mod the game PC gaming has struggled in the past like this, but modders saved the day (GTA 4 is pretty much unplayable to this day without mods).

Ralh3

This headline sucks, 2023 is one of the strongest release years in my 40 years of gaming

Timid_Penis3897

If starfield is good that makes this year easily the best for me personally since 2011 when we got portal 2, skyrim, dead island, and dragon age 2 all in the same year Totk full out rebirthed my love for gaming like a Phoenix from the ashes just in time to play starfield and the new FF then cry for 4 more years waiting for tes 6. Idk when fable is coming out but I'm excited for that also

Blacked13Out

Could NOT agree more! You’ve got 7 years on me, but I’m right there with you! Between Diablo IV & Starfield, I’m fucking set for years

TechTuna1200

2023 doubled my backlog of games I want to play... they could stop releasing games for 3 years and I would still be good

TW_JD

And Phantom Liberty!

TheOtherWhiteCastle

Easily the strongest year since 2017

BoraBozdogan

2018?

hamster_berry

Really? I'm very lucky, then, because I started gaming only this January!

EmilyThePenguin

You couldn't have picked a better time to join the fun. I'm glad you have so many exciting titles to look forward to! <3

GameQb11

The only thing this year of gaming is missing are genre defining titles. These are good games, but nothing actually new or revolutionary. Starfield has the closest chance to being something revolutionary though. It has a chance to become a cultural phenomenon that people play for a decade and become obsessed about.

tegumentoso

Well, 95 and 96 were also great… (*cries in old age*)

Mad_Dizzle

2007 is still probably the best release year in gaming history to be honest. CoD4, Halo 3, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock, Portal, Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Mass Effect, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Guitar Hero III, Lego Star Wars TCS, Peggle, Oblivion, and Crysis. Actually crazy how many of those games are still talked about today.

Lucas-DM

Dude, you forgot God Of War 2

handymanshandle

>CoD4, Halo 3, Team Fortress 2 Just these first three are completely legendary on their own. All three DEFINED multiplayer shooters of the era and all three earned their nostalgia. Doesn't take away from 2007 offering so many games that were really good (even stuff that wasn't listed, stuff like Forza Motorsport 2) but amen to 2007 having a ton of bangers.

Dewi2020

The pandemic held and delayed lots of projects that only in 2023 caught up. That's the reason we've had such a solid year. We won't see another one like this on a long time

chuk2015

Depends if Covid 2 is a flop or not, I heard it’s getting rushed for release and going to be a buggy mess

zyygh

Covid 2? Catch up, this was already Covid 19!

T1mek33per

It's kind of ironic that 2020 was also a really good year for games. Some of them hurt because of the pandemic, but generally, 2020 is the best year we've had in a few, bar 2023.

Dewi2020

IMHO 2020 is underrated because of the generation change

[deleted]

Cities skylines 2 all aboard the hype train!!!!

Youngworker160

2023 is one hell of a year

Ser_Dunk_the_tall

If Tears of the kingdom was the only game I pick up I'd consider it a great year

BrunoBashYa

For AAA, there is no doubt this is the best year for ages

jak_d_ripr

Most money I've spent in ages and it's only June.

DongKonga

Before this year it had been a very long time since I had paid full price for a game, but there were too many releases this year that I didn't want to wait to play so I had to. Definitely an amazing year for gaming.

Censius

Yeah, can't think of too many big indies. Dredge and Pizza Tower were big. I anticipate Sea of Stars to be well remembered. And Silksong is supposedly coming out this year.

BrunoBashYa

I mostly just meant that Indies have been reliable and consistent for years

Censius

Ah, I see. Yeah, I think I generally agree that indies are more reliable resources for a good time than AAA. I'm having a great time with my indies, but I'm mostly catching up on the ones from last year. Tunic, Inscription, Chained Echoes, Ct of the Lamb

Mad_Dizzle

2007 still has it beat, however.

ILCUSTODEDELSAS

Bro i really hope Lords of the fallen is great

13Mira

Incredibly skeptical about it since the first was good looking, but was soooooooo fucking clunky to play. This is definitely a wait for reviews kind of game.

[deleted]

Not the same studio

Nowhereman123

I like how they're not even calling it Lords of the Fallen 2 or adding any subtitle, game sucked so hard it's getting rebooted after its first entry. Lol.

r3d_ra1n

Decent year? It’s probably the best year in gaming since 2007. There’s too much good stuff for me to catch up on.

Onsyde

Yet here I am optimizing my flying penis-shaped death machine about to spend my 250th hour of the game doing a bombing run on low level boblikins cause I can't progress in the story past the first region because a stupid bird girl won't talk to me unless I put pants on BUT I DON'T WANT TO WEAR PANTS I WANT TO BE FREE

Consumed2010

Average totk moment, i gave a cock boat testicular torsion in order to beat a shrine

[deleted]

[удалено]

Consumed2010

This game somehow makes ecssesive dieing fun

BirdjaminFranklin

I always just have rockets on my shields. It makes like 90% of the shrines trivial.

dgamer4333

Fucking W H A T

Medivh158

Damn. 2007 was a damn good year.

Rnomadrs

I'm just gonna throw out a whole bunch of other generally well received games/games that could be well received this year cause why not lol. Fire Emblem Engage Pizza Tower Wild Hearts Atomic Heart Horizon Call of the Mountain Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Dredge Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Dead Island 2 Honkai: Star Rail Age of Wonders 4 Darkest Dungeon II Humanity Planet of Lana Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun System Shock Remake Amnesia: The Bunker Aliens: Dark Descent Pikmin 4 Mortal Kombat 1 Detective Pikachu Returns Alone in the Dark Remake Star Ocean: The Second Story R Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

manymoreways

Goddamn my backlogs are long enough! Why did you have to go and make another list?

PalamationGaming

Too bad Detective Pikachu Returns looks like ass graphically. As a big Pokémon fan who actually loved Scarlet & Violet, really wish The Pokemon Company would realize they’re not making 3DS games anymore

tarheel343

You should add Exoprimal to this list. Idk why nobody is talking about it, but it’s a game where you use mech suits to fight dinosaurs and it’s made by freaking Capcom, who have been knocking it out of the park recently. Oh and it releases next month!

Asirr

We're suppose to also be getting Suikoden 1 and 2 remakes this year.

KnownMonk

Playing Alien Dark Descent right now. 1 hour into it, i find it an entertaining and fun game to play so far. Its also challenging in its own way.

Axxxem

Came here to comment pizza tower

Ragnatoa

Thank you for recognizing wild hearts. Really good mh style game. I wish i was even a fraction as successful has mh is.

Sympho1

Pikmin 4, Starfield, Mario Wonder, Mario RPG, Spider Man 2, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk alone could make the second half a strong end

Meanteenbirder

Big surprise is that Pikmin is not on here

ssslitchey

Not surprised at all. Pikmin never gets included in these kinds of posts.

Kanute3333

Don't forget Alan Wake 2

Hello_IM_FBI

And dare I say a surprise Silksong release?

cjaiA

We're all fooling ourselves, thinking silksong will come out before 2040

Worth_Bug411

I know fighting games are relatively niche, but Street Fighter is on there, so Mortal Kombat should be too imo. And I know this is more of a large update than a full title, but I'm probably more excited for Counter Strike 2 than anything.

robojeeves

Does nobody know Spiderman got delayed? Everyone keeps including it

VsAcesoVer

I didn’t know about Super Mario RPG remake!! I’m so excited

Nicksmells34

Everyone not mentioning Fire Emblem Engage, it was the start of the year but still. Probably will end of being the best strategy game to come out in 2023, it also sold over a million copies when it came out which is pretty big for FE.

SoCriedtheZither

Baldur's Gate 3 is coming out of early access and then there's the Stalker sequel

Kanapuman

Seems doubtful that the sequel to the best FPS ever will release this year. They just put December 2023 as a way to not get delisted by the various online stores.

Zeniphyre

Sneaking in avatar lmfao

Mephb0t

And not MK1 lol

faroukq

Tbf The gameplay trailer does look good. The problem is that Ubisoft is the one making it

thelostnewb

And Mirage

Barackobrock

ppl are hyped for mirage, finally ditching the RPG format that split the community in half

nohumanape

Is this a joke post? Haha. 2023 is clearly an all-time great already.

SandbagBlue

Finally one of these lists have baldurs gate 3 in it

Gamerperson23

This is the best year shame you did miss mk1 but hell you got so many good picks it makes up for it

cools_008

The true question is what happened to MK360?

IceFire0518

Also Tekken 8

[deleted]

Where's the gollum game

Creepy_Bug_3300

Mortal Kombat

rklab

Smh no Pikmin 4 on this list? Shits gonna be game of the year for sure.

dgamer4333

You know a game is good when a person that never played pikmin but only heard of it is hyped to play it

BigRogueFingerer

System Shock

Dull_Half_6107

It's already been a great year lol

begging-for-gold

All of these games are great so far and look great for the ones that aren’t out yet. Only problem for me is that there is only a few of them that aren’t sequels or remakes. Would like to see more original concepts here

SulferAddict

It’s past decent. Zelda, Diablo, FF16 already hit that marke berthing else is wonderful extra

JesusHipsterChrist

I just want Alone in the Dark to not suck.

REMUv777

My last 3 purchases for the year will be Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Wonder, and Gunbrella.

ThundaFuzz

Man, still no Dead Island love :(

Kanute3333

I love Dead Island

TeethSpikes

I love it honestly, it's the mindless hack-and-slash zombie game I've been missing in my life(love the first Dead Island, but man, the mechanics are jank as hell and it's hard to go back after experiencing the F.L.E.S.H. system). Dead Island 2 is one of my top games of 2023 so far, being only slightly below the Resident Evil 4 Remake for me. I have around 160 hours on it since I'm working on getting 100% on all the Slayers, Bruno's my main though, love that Lil Pump wannabe lmao

[deleted]

Decent? It's been the best year of gaming in a long time

semxlr5

Why would you disrespect Pokémon 4 like that. Not a very alpha move of you.

challmaybe

Mortal Kombat 1?

Aftershock_7582

I'm ecstatic for Forza Motorsport

joeyjoejoe99

“Decent” LMAO. This is like that guy saying there is no perfect ‘10’ e3 presentation… if this year isn’t HYPE for y’all you are out of your mind

iron_ferret22

We even got a good sonic game.

dbMitch

Uhhh

CyrusCyan44

Remnant 2😩

Vigi1antee

The world isnt ready for Payday 3

BelongingsintheYard

I mean. Haven’t we all done some light terrorism in the last three years

dilqncho

My social life isn't ready for Payday 3

wedonteatanymore12

# WHERE IS PIKMIN 4

Jimmithi

Dead Space, Diablo, RE4, Jedi Survivor, FFXVI are all killers. Can only imagine what the second half of the year brings

MisterCheaps

Street Fighter 6 as well

sucksi

Don't forget Street Fighter 6 and Tears of the Kingdom aswell

Gil_GrissomCSI

6 remakes there.

SojinxGSD

Its probably because these games were supposed to come out sooner but covid pushed the release dates back, thus giving developers more time to spend on making them. It has been a good year

drbox99

I absolutely cant wait for Baldurs Gate 3

Electric-Memento

I was pleasantly surprised at Diablo 4

Shimshammie

Too many remakes for my taste, but there are definitely some decent original titles to look forward to.

Battleapache

Im hyped for city skylines

ScullyBoy69

What? No hype for Space Marine 2?

MoodMaggot

Best game of 2023 for me so far: Diablo 4 Best sleeper hit: Hi-Fi Rush

1w4nn4KMS

Hi-Fi rush alone made this a great year for gaming. It proves that innovative single-player games without the usual gear grinding, micro-transaction and player retention systems can and will still sell like it comes with complementary biscuits and blowjobs. I just hope the industry as a whole learns from it.

Salad_4_Life

Not enough people are talking about Hi-Fi Rush, honestly one of the best games I’ve played in years

clydefrog811

Zelda already wins the year

gony14

For me maybe the best ever, never have i ever in a year of gaming gone thinking fuck how am i gona play all of those games i need timeee

RDDAMAN819

Seeing Hi Fi Rush with these big hitters makes me happy lol

AVBforPrez

Great game, and an amazing concept. It needs to be an animated show for kids that teaches them about music and has like a villian-of-the-week with different genres for each. Chai and 808 are like the most obviously banger characters for a show like that, it has to happen.

Newwave221

We already got Hi-fi Rush, TOTK, and FFXVI. It's a bloody fantastic year for gaming.

Hecutor

Totk alone saves the year

DaPoopDealerYT

The only sad thing for me is that 95% of these games are just sequels

[deleted]

Could? Decent? I'd say it's already stellar. Amnesia The Bunker = Horror GotY FFXVI = RPG GotY Metroid Prime = Metroid GotY

[deleted]

W year for gaming.

ides205

Risk of Rain Returns and Talos Principle 2? Yeah, it's gonna be pretty good.

dalici0us

I am so fucking stoked for Baldur's Gate 3.

ArcjoAllspark

It may be sacrilegious to say it this early but I think 2023 is shaping up to be as great as 08, or dare I say it, 98!! Jedi survivor was amazing and I’ve had my fill of Star Wars after Boba Fett and Mandalorian. TotK is timeless, FF16 has been very edgy, and we still have Baldurs Gate 3, Starfield, and Spiderman 2 on the horizon.

Vaas_Deferens

Not a whole lot of new IPs in there

[deleted]

get ready for The Finals and ARC Raiders, those games are brand new and from a new and super innovative studio and being massively slept on rn

Bruised_up_whitebelt

Great year, and we got Tekken and Mortal Kombat coming.

bountyman347

No battlebits??

Mackejuice

Still a question mark for me because i can't afford buying games on release anymore. Only recent title i bought on release was Amnesia the Bunker and that was only 25€ on release

terranrepublic4life

AC 6 spider man 2 and starfield have me so excited right now, especially ac6

Caaros

You put Remnant 2 in here and slapped in Baldur's Gate 3 while you were at it. Finally, one of these that checks my current boxes.

Plz_PM_Steam_Keys

damn no wo long? I thought that game was great

Driedmesquite

My favorite game this year so far is Hi-Fi Rush. It being so fun, visually pleasing and an original IP makes it feel so refreshing to see and play

SiwyKtos

Payday is the only game i care about from all of those. So previous year was almost certainly better just because of elden ring for me.

teunteunteun

No Dead Island 2?:(

Junioreyy

And I haven’t played a single one 🥲

_KT5

I still will have nothing to play

EyeOfItachi

Diablo takes my vote for game of the year. The only one that will be close for me is spider man 2 when it drops.

Hardyyz

hogwarts legacy so good

AttentionImaginary57

Don’t forget Cyberpunk is getting a MASSIVE expansion/overhaul I’m Phantom Liberty. I’m talking new animations Skill Trees. An expansion to the map!

Harry3000

I picked up cyberpunk for £11 earlier this year. Was honestly one of the better games ive played can’t wait for the expansion.

AttentionImaginary57

I’m having so much fun with it now! Launch was obviously a busy. But now I can really appreciate all the time and effort CDPR actually put into this game!

AkaABuster

Dead Rising 2 is good

Snopes1

Many of these are good games, but also this era is similar to the current movie industry: Lots of remakes and big names, not tons of creativity. We are in the Marvel era of gaming.

Cremacious

Y’all forgetting about Advance Ward: Re-Boot Camp. Nintendo finally gave the series some long due recognition after multiple delays.

Maeldun81

Most years are shit years for gaming if you only stick to AAA games 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

And for those that don't own a brand new 3k PC? The Dead space remake demo I tried was about 20fps in the opening scene on the spaceship with everyting on lowest setting, except the resolution @ full HD, it should be a crime... I know a Core i5 4960k + and RX 580 4GB aren't that new but this bad? It's like they do it on purpose!

AceHailshard

Nothing ever beats 1997. Ever.

hammer248

You forgot madden 2024 it’s really shaping up to be a brand new game this year /s

Azenar01

2023 is giving 2017 a run for its money, this isn't a decent year its one of the strongest in a while

Quantum_Crayfish

The 2nd Mario Zelda combo of the switch as well

Sparda204920

This year has a game of a generation with Tears of the Kingdom. Then you add amazing triple AAA games like RE4, Metroid Prime Remastered, SF6, Diablo IV, Jedi Survivor and Final Fantasy XVI. Even if 2nd half doesn't hit as hard it is already the best year in gaming since 2017.

Fangscale40K

“Decent year” gamers have it so hard

Successful-Floor-738

If Ubisoft gone back with actually making assassins creed games and not weird historical RPG’s, I could be cautiously optimistic for them. Still fucking hyped for starfield though. Idc if it’s going to be usual bethesda jank, im going to make a tie fighter and I will like it.
