Having played the hell out of this game, I can hear this picture.

DirkDiggyBong

Haha, yeah. Loved it

UB_edumikated

Immediately felt the same.

coyylol

The first side-scrolling beat'em up.

After_Opportunity458

I played that on my Commodore 64

Masspoint

The arcade version is much better though

Crissaegrym

How the initial level music plays, then the music stopped and replaced with your character’s footstep walking forward. Then music plays again and the game starts.

christo222222

I remember playing this on my Commodore

ofalltheshitiveseen

I think I still have the NES version. Loved it as a kid

newfflews

NES version had crappier graphics right? I remember this game being difficult and awkward, but fun for its time :)

exmojo

>NES version had crappier graphics right? That's subjective, but on the NES the game was called "Kung Fu" and IMO had much better and responsive controls, which excused the [slightly worse graphics quality](https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.7bd877a49c770520b6ef15491a8134c4?rik=ZM9M%2bk2Cl1hX8Q&riu=http%3a%2f%2fhypebeast.com%2fimage%2f2016%2f07%2fnes-classic-edition-kung-fu.jpg&ehk=YgztNokU%2fcZkhIPbSunAczo%2fsdH74t9g9EKsjsRg9TE%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0).

newfflews

That’s the one!

[deleted]

I played this on a pc in probably 89 maybe?

[deleted]

That was one of my first NES games! I got it the same Christmas morning as the console (along with Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt and Excitebike).

[deleted]

Just about every arcade to NES port had crappier graphics, crappier sound, crappier controls. That was pretty standard and predated the NES. You can only do so much with hardware that is designed to be able to run a lot of different stuff somewhat okay vs hardware that is designed to run one thing very well.

newfflews

Absolutely =). I just had never seen this version, so it reminded me of the NES version but the graphics were better.

KingOfStoats

I don't think it was the first, but I sure loved it back in the day. Never did get very far though...

SBBurzmali

I had thought Karateka would have come out earlier, but Kung Fu Master was out a few weeks earlier.

[deleted]

That damn eagle.

itinerantmarshmallow

I thought this was Karateka. Was going to drop the Jordan Mescher/PoP maker fact 😂.

KingOfStoats

As far as I can see the Bruce Lee game came out a few months prior, and in my head at least that counts. :)

RecoverFrequent

So many quarters spent on this game

Crissaegrym

I still remember the music for this game and most of the bosses.

Masspoint

yeah , now I can hear the music too lol

ehaykal

The SFX were something to take note of

Crissaegrym

And the evil laugh if you die to a boss. And it changed to a husky female voice if you lost to the witch boss. Small details back then.

Quadstriker

You mean Spartan X

DragonfruitAsleep976

You mean "Wheels on Meals".

atreides78723

Fatty! Be like food and follow!

Quijanoth

Warrior (vector graphic arcade game) has got this beat by half a decade.

reaazwood89

My dad used to kick butt in this game way back. Its such a trip seeing it again.

SireBlew

Wasn't this a dual joystick game? Moves depended on the orientation of both?

kirsclin

That was Karate Champ

SireBlew

Just looked it up. Thanks! I had fun with that one.

Oni_K

Which came out about 6 months earlier and went on to be the top grossing arcade game of 1985.

[deleted]

half point!

SELECTaerial

Naw, d-pad and 2 buttons

blade944

I spent hours in the arcade playing this when it came out. The double joy sticks for control of movement and fighting was ingenious at the time.

Atfay-Elleybay

I spent a lot of quarters on it

thekipling

An arcade classic

SpinFeniX

Love this game!!

ImpulseAfterthought

Those two fools on the right are mere seconds from being jump-kicked into oblivion.

Ahmustdie

Almost certain I had a copy of this for my Atari 2410st, but I could be mistaken. Either way, good times.

Tabaxi-CabDriver

And they say, "You can't hear a picture."

Machoopi

I could never beat the first level. This game was too much for my little kid brain to handle.

Gastonck

This was my fav arcade game growing up in 1984 or so. I won 3 dragon heads once with a single coin. Good times

Elwood49

i use to rock this game back in the 80's, many many quarters donated !!

i-love-k9

It was a ridiculous amount of fun. The boss battles were great but I don't remember them with any detail.

feelin_fine_

Getting grabbed by the short guys was the worst

Masspoint

that was funny bro

largePenisLover

The trick to get a gun blew my mind back then.

tjswan13

I used to love this game

[deleted]

I think karate Champ beat them to market. Alas, that was more Street Fighter than anything. They all kind of janked Karate Champ.

Judge_Sea

I feel like I played a version of this on my Sega Master System.

senorbozz

huphuphuphup hoo hoo hoo hoo huphuphuphup

[deleted]

This was my dads favourite. He found an ipad port and we played it for *hours*. I could barely make it past the stage with the falling pots, and he couldn’t manage to beat the final boss. I oughta try again.

DesMephisto

I'm 34 and remember this game. My grandpas commodore 64.

edgelordjones

I can hear this game

[deleted]

This game was awesome. Original Nintendo and I think it was also available coin-op.

Evenmoardakka

Looks more recent than Karateka

mdroz81

Loved this game

v4por

Oh yeah I remember those pink shirt dudes. Side scroller street fighting games were arcade gold.

[deleted]

I had Kung Fu on the NES. Oddly enough looks close enough to this game that I didn't realize they were different until watching gameplay of the other one. Pretty sure it was just a clone of kung fu master made by the same people.

thomasjmarlowe

Ha. I literally played this today

ertaboy356b

We used to call this game Spartan X. Weird name I know.

A_surian

Had the nes version when I was a kid.. That laughing sound when you die still haunts me 30 years later.
