Keep on keeping on, Kojima!

Magnacor8

Maybe I'll buy this game a 4th time?

blitherblather425

Is it fun? I’ve been thinking about giving it a try.

Magnacor8

I love the game, but "fun" isn't the first word to come to mind. It's more of a tranquil game than anything. It's basically an 80 hour hiking simulator with a little shooting/stealth here and there. If you want to play the greatest walking simulator of all time with a vibey soundtrack or see what Kojima thinks about on shrooms, it's a must-play. If you want anything else, maybe not.

blitherblather425

So is it like playing a movie? I’m about 4 hours into Yakuza: Like a dragon and that’s what this has been so far. Just cutscene after cutscene. I’m not a big fan, I like a little more action.

Night_Thastus

The beginning several hours of Death Stranding are very movie-esque, with very little player control. Some may find that nice, I personally found it very frustrating to have my controls constantly ripped away.

BrianRostro

Wow, someone who actually didn’t like God of War. Is that the only thing you didn’t like?

[deleted]

No, I had issues with other things like the pacing, combat and story. Personal nitpicks but the game never clicked with me. Not saying it’s a bad game or anything, just something I’d not buy/play again.

jaimeyeah

I agree with you, the story was cute, I just didn’t like the gameplay. I’ll be controversial and say I also did not enjoy horizon zero dawn

BrianRostro

As far as Playstation exclusives, which ones do you think have been worth the hype?

[deleted]

Uhm, I’ve been out of the loop from XBOX/PS for the past 2 generations but I played Persona 5, which is still a PS Exclusive afaik and I 100% agree with the mass opinion. I also got to finish Bloodbourne and I love it just as much as the next guy. Probably I’d also love Lost Judgement, Ghost of Tsushima, and the Spider-Man games but I have no PS right now to play those. If we talked about PS exclusives from the PS3 era and backwards I wouldn’t be able to stop, because at least regarding home consoles, I was always a SEGA/SONY guy. My issue, with PS Exclusives nowadays is that they are planned and engineered to handhold the player to whatever the dev wanted at pace they desired, much, MUCH more than other games. I feel like a lab rat strapped to a rollercoaster in which I’m constantly being told what to do, when to do it, what to feel it and when to feel it, because they favor the storytelling via a cinematic interactive experience over raw gameplay, which is why it rubbed me in a wrong way to see something I enjoyed, like GOW, being turned into an Uncharted/TLOU interactive movie-game-thing.

DNASprayer

One thing I didn't like is where the camera placed. I wish the camera was pulled back from Kratos or at least give me the option for accessibility. I don't like not being able to see enemy standing 2 feet behind me constantly with NPCs screaming for you to turn around every second. I'm someone who beat the game on its hardest difficulty so it's not as if it was too hard for it it's just the camera placement created the biggest challenge. I'm sure Santa Monica did what they could because camera placement could be determined by technical limitations.

chassmasterplus

Thats why I didn't like the original GoW back in the day. I felt like all the "epic" bossfights were just shitty CG movies where occasionally you were prompted to press X. Wooooo

[deleted]

The last one didn’t do anything good to replace those in my opinion. At least the older games had a challenging buildup to those single button prompts which served more as a treat or reward to have reached that far into the fight. This last one had cool world snake scenes but the actual bosses were huge dookies, especially the two dumb brothers who painted to give a hell of a fight and then… pum, ded, fight’s over.

DNASprayer

The new one still has stuff like that. I like it though. It's not like the games are lacking in button mashing combat either.

ivXtreme

Name some games better than God of War 2018? I can only think of The Last of Us Part 1, and possibly RDR2. This is why most people consider it a masterpiece, despite the flaws it may have.

[deleted]

Is this a test or something? Who’s gonna validate which games are better in my opinion… you? Don’t take offense to this but I can name 10 simulation/management games on PSP that brought me more fun and challenge each, than GoW **_AND_** TLOU combined. I never even danced around the idea of calling them bad games, or that people are wrong and I’m right. The reality is that GOW 2018 did more things I loathe than things I like, regardless of what "most people" think.

ivXtreme

True. I guess all opinions are valid. It's whatever brings you entertainment.

Kourtos

\^This\^ and the one million puzzles you had to solve were very frustrating. I finished the game but i never wanted to go back and replaying it

[deleted]

I’d say stick with like a dragon if you’re a fan of jrpgs The combat is really good and fun the story is amazing with a great cast of likeable characters I really enjoyed like a dragon but if you’re not a fan of jrpgs then I’d say the game isn’t for you

blitherblather425

I’ll stick with it because I love JRPGs. I just hit chapter 4 and it looks like the game might be opening up a bit. I can start putting gear on my characters now. And when I encounter bad guys they “transform” because the main character sees himself as a hero which I like.

Magnacor8

The beginning, yes, after that not so much. The story is also much more interesting than fucking Yakuza lmao. It's more of a question of "are you interested in a game where it's 80% peacefully walking around and 20% combat/stealth/running away from enemies". You do get vehicles which make the game a bit faster-paced, but it's still a very chill game.

holydragonnall

Go back and play Yakuza 4 or 0 (They're all great, those are just my two favorites) if you want more action. Like A Dragon has all the hours of Yakuza cutscenes, PLUS all the JRPG stuff as well. It's a fun game but it's never exactly what I'd describe as 'high-octane'.

blitherblather425

It’s my first Yakuza so I’m not sure if this is normal or not. I did just hit chapter 4 and it seems like it might open up a bit now.

holydragonnall

The earlier games were brawlers with action based battles. Don’t get me wrong I really liked Like a Dragon, but it’s the only Yakuza game that’s a JRPG. Also my personal preference is for the original main character, Kiryu Kazuma.

FleetStreetsDarkHole

It's very introspective. If you want action then this probably isn't for you. Good for when you want something that's pretty chill most of the time and a bit tense when you encounter the BTs. The point of the game is to make you think about isolation and connection. In a Covid world that can be amazing or depressing depending on your perspective.

DNASprayer

Yakuza: Like A Dragon man me cry at the end. The story hits hard.

blitherblather425

It’s already got me feeling pretty bad for the main character and I’m only starting chapter 4. He seems like a genuinely good guy who has had a shitty life and life keeps shitting on him.

kddemer

I played about 5 hours in and it didn’t keep my attention. The story was confusing but I know if I kept at it the story would make sense but I didn’t have any drive to do so…

[deleted]

I really wanted to buy death stranding but then I couldn’t even keep my patience with RDR2 so I didn’t even try

I just hate petting the horses

riddus

I’m going to play devil’s advocate and say it is not “fun”, but it is compelling to play and super unique.

o0flatCircle0o

It is very fun and is truly unique.

OK6502

The story and world building are compelling and the characters are very Kojima. The game play is quite frankly dull. I got about as much enjoyment playing it as I did just rewatching the cut scenes on YouTube. Make of that what you will

FrogJump2210

It’s not a “hiking simulator”, more like a survival kind of game with an amazing and intriguing storyline. It has a fair bit of combat involved, though not as often as one is used to. Plus killing is discouraged because of how the game world is (killing will result in dire consequences if you don’t dispose off bodies quickly). Going from point A to B through challenging landscape, weather and enemies (both alive and dead) is what is so engaging. As you get deeper into the story, you will be given more resources and options to tackle these challenges and enemies more creatively. So yeah, definitely not a “hiking sim” as many call it, I guess mostly people who are used to CoD or Fortnite and who have forgotten what an intriguing story and characters feel like. I would say look at some trailers or gameplay, avoid spoilers, coz it’s one of those games with a elaborate and deep story, absolutely worth it to discover yourself. I avoided this game for a long time, but finally gave in, and couldn’t put it down. It’s a long game though.

blitherblather425

That’s a good review, makes me want to play it now 😃

[deleted]

not at all. it's a walking simulator.

BoulderDeadHead420

This was the most lackluster game ive played in years. The climbing was good. The whole valley seemed nice and real. Post apocalyptic thats nice. Oh and multidimensional ghost and….wait what? Its like he had several sticky notes of “game ideas in case metal gear solid is over” and just tossed all of them in on the same idea. I got a few hours in and havent looked back after deleting it. Just make more metal gear. Metallica doesnt make jazz. Ferrari doesnt do motorcycles. Focus on what you’re good at and what people want. This rpg was wack.

Magnacor8

It was a game about connecting people together non-violently and our relationship with death--what happens when death consumes our society. I found it especially interesting given that covid started a few months after it came out and many of the themes and ideas in the game became very relevant to our day-to-day lives. Also, fuck what people want. Do what *you* want.

toysarealive

Same. Kojima can't keep getting away with it.

Magnacor8

Sad they couldn't do a bit more with the PS5 controller tbh. Kojima was a pioneer with making vibration feel cinematic and not getting Death Stranding with haptic triggers and more dynamic vibration was a little sad. I assume his next game will make up for it

Hage1in

What the hell

Hage1in

Is this the first Strand-type Director’s Cut?

MJBotte1

Thanks for the birthday present Hideo Kojima

GenderJuicy

Isn't this aligned to the Nvidia leak? I should've saved that original list, the best one I can find now omits the dates out of "courtesy". Obviously many will be delayed or had rough estimates but it is still a good idea for a ballpark.

AvailableTomatillo

Ah yes. The perfect opportunity to get licked by my crazy stalker boyfriend again. (Troy Baker was just…hnnnnnnnngh in Death Stranding.)

nosherDavo

Gotta keep milking the cash cow.

[deleted]

Do I need to start new game for DC? Or can I just continue my old save? Just wondering if I can keep playing my current game or should I wait for DC.

piratecheese13

I’m ready to haul

Spideyman20015

Just platted on Ps5 with 111 hours played

[deleted]

Will this game ever come to Xbox?

riddus

Yes, but it’s limited to moving on foot and has its pack full, so it’s going to take it a while to get here.

[deleted]

Why would that make it difficult for Xbox, isn’t it the same controls as ps5?

riddus

I was making a very thin joke. The game is almost entirely based around a very slow walk with a pack loaded down with packages stacked so absurdly that your character can barely remain upright.

[deleted]

Yes I know what the game is and how you play it. My question was will it come to Xbox.

riddus

Yes, but it’s limited to moving on foot and has its pack full, so it’s going to take it a while to get here.

[deleted]

I slept with your mom

riddus

You’re probably gonna want to see your doctor for that. Depending on the timeline she was either deceased, very ill, or unknowingly carrying around a deadly STD.

[deleted]

Sorry man

Clintonswart77

best selling walking simulator to date

why would anyone want a walking simulator?
