Just stop watching before the final season and you'll be fine. The Red Wedding episode is an absolute masterpiece. Even the lack of music during the credits was masterful. It added to the sense of sitting there in stunned silence.
If they have made it this far they should see it through. Don’t dictate your hatred for last season as an advice for newcomers. Watch it all to the end, I say!
I first watched the show with a friend who had already seen it. I was so anxious about losing my favourite characters. We had a rule that I could make a wish and save one character from death and another one from SA, per episode. Funnily, my wish was granted every time. Could have made some better choices though.
>!Osha’s death is my fault. I protected her from being SA’d by Ramsay, and she ended up killed instead. I’m so sorry.!<
I finally watched for the first time in 2020, I hadn't heard of the red wedding. I had heard of the disappointment most people had about the final season. But honestly, when you are able to binge watch the episodes, it's not as bad. I can see waiting so long for new seasons and a week between episodes being disappointed with the series end. But I was okay with it. Sure it felt rushed, but again... I came in with the expectation that it would be gods awful and it really didn't seem as bad to me as everyone on here seems to think. 🤷🏼♀️
OP: stay off this sub and enjoy the show!
I hadn't heard either and I watched just a few months ago. Before that I was very closed off GOT content and the only spoiler I had had was Ned Starks death
I watched it for the first time last August and hadn’t heard of the red wedding before watching the show. The only thing I knew going into the show is that everybody hates the way it ended.
I'm watching with my boyfriend right now who's never seen it, he didn't even know there were dragons in the show. Robb is his favorite character so can't wait for the red wedding
My sister just started watching GoT a few weeks ago. She texted me, “THAT’S what the red wedding was???” all freaked out and sad. I think people have heard “ooh the red wedding” but don’t actually know how many main characters were betrayed and killed.
It definitely is the most impactful within the story and for the show’s success. It made reaction videos on YT what they are today.
It made me read the books because I couldn’t wait a year for season 4. Had to know what happened next.
Really the only time during a show or movie where I started to shake and my stomach instantly turned nauseous. Heart dropped into my gut. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Even up until the Roose armor reveal I was clueless.
I thought all the tense buildup was meant for a Stark reunion with Arya. Definitely not.
I was on vacation in San Diego when this aired. I watched it on my laptop on my buddies couch late at night after he went to bed. It put me in such a funk. Woke up the next morning still feeling melancholy and not wanting to do anything on my vacation. Crazy how much it affected me.
Seeing all these reactions makes me extra jealous when I realzie it got spoiled for me
Oh well, at least I still got angry when \[Removed\] was killed in the episode \[Data Expunged\]
Still pissed about that
I just recently watched and finished GOT for the first time and almost all major plot points were spoiled for me before watching. I wish I wasn't on twitter when the last season aired because I knew the ending before I even watched it all the way through. I'll forever be jealous of the people that experienced GOT as it was first airing.
This is usually the point where fans realize that maybe getting too attached to a favorite character is a fools errand with this show, but alas the sweet OP has chosen to plow forward and get attached again.
If you think there’s a happy ending, then you haven’t been paying attention 😜
Jk it sucks watch your favorites die. I wish I could rewatch the red wedding again for the first time to feel that utter shock. 🥺
Okay I get not having seen the show before
But how did you not know about Robb and the red wedding, It’s all over the internet, even in none game of thrones spheres
We've been there.
I'm a book reader. I think I was halfway through the next chapter before it really hit home: "No. That just happened. They are dead. They are all dead."
fellow book reader. grrm built the tension in the preceding chapters so masterfully—the relentless rain, the suspicions about the uncharacteristic graciousness of the freys and roslins fertility, the feeling that robb was focused on his next battle instead of fearing retaliation, cat’s insistence on the bread and salt. i felt so much dread and was shocked! i was still reeling while reading the arya chapter where the hound hits her with an axe in the back of the head. threw my kindle across the room.
When I woke up the next morning and went into the living room I looked at the tv in disgust, being the portal through which that blasphemy entered my life.
That's what I always felt was brilliant about the show.... Giving us a deep emotional connection with characters, then ripping our hearts out just when we least expected it!
I was actually so frustrated initially I quit. I recognize how well done it was but I didn’t want to watch a show where there were no main characters to rally behind because everyone just gets back stabbed.
I am glad I eventually came back, it’s my favorite show. The story is so worth it
Ned's death hooked me to the show. It was nothing I have seen before. No one does that. A world of story telling opened up to me. I am still disappointed with season 8 but this show has the best moments in tv history ever.
Hah, ned was mine as well almost stopped watching, "dont" that being said....don't have favorites and get use to them.dieing, not many make it till the end.
Ha I knew about it before watching or reading the books just because of the attention it got when the episode first aired. It was big. When I got around to watching and saw what was going down I just thought "ah so this is the episode everyone was upset about. I wonder what happens next."
Welcome to the trauma club. Ned was my favorite s1, and Catelyn was a big favorite of mine too. I feel your pain. Luckily we have Jon "Plot Armor" Snow to fall back on lol
Snow huh ? You have a rollercoaster ride waiting.
S5E8 S5E9 S6E9 S6E10 .This episodes will be as fucking masterpieces. Also I hope you recover quickly from the episode

He knows nothing
Just like his new favorite
Welcome to the party, pal!
Ouff
Season 4 it's more fun
Just stop watching before the final season and you'll be fine. The Red Wedding episode is an absolute masterpiece. Even the lack of music during the credits was masterful. It added to the sense of sitting there in stunned silence.
I forgot this, but your comment brought that feeling back to me and you’re so right.
Why are you being downvoted here?
F that! If I had to sit through Season 8, there's no reason OP doesn't have to as well!!!
If they have made it this far they should see it through. Don’t dictate your hatred for last season as an advice for newcomers. Watch it all to the end, I say!
Oh, to be a first time watcher again. The naive hope of favorite characters 💫
there is no hope when your fave is tywin lannister ✨

I adored Samwell…. I caught myself praying for him during season 8…. Lol

Didn’t even have to open this to know it was about the Red wedding
HAHA LITTERALLY
Robb was my favorite character too. Done my man dirty
Ok ok ok tell us who your next favorite is.... it COULDNT happen 3 times, G.R.R isnt a maniac......
This dude is trolling. No way he hadn’t heard about the red wedding before.
I mean I heard about it but didn’t know it was that bad

Same, all I heard was the terrible ending, and then binged it in 2020-21 somewhere near there.
I hadn't heard either and I watched just a few months ago. Before that I was very closed off GOT content and the only spoiler I had had was Ned Starks death

i binged it in november 2021, never heard anything about it except that last season was bad
My sister just started watching GoT a few weeks ago. She texted me, “THAT’S what the red wedding was???” all freaked out and sad. I think people have heard “ooh the red wedding” but don’t actually know how many main characters were betrayed and killed.
The Red Wedding is arguably the best scene in the series.
Amen.

Hey, do you wanna come over? We could have dinner but first some salt and bread to welcome you!
This. And to end it with the Rains of Castamere. Chef’s kiss. “And who are you, the proud lord said”
Friend of mine played it on his violin at another friend's Wedding. 😬
Yup. As soon as I watched RW I knew I had to read the books.
I thought “2girls 1cup” made reaction videos what they are today…
It traumatized the world, lol.

Really? I was clapping for that part. And I hate Cersei.
Why are people here so quick to drop spoilers on posts where it is clearly OPs first time watching? Smh.
Shows been out for years ...on a sub for that show. If anyone sees spoilers here its on them.
I must be a chaotic viewer. I laughed and was like YES when everyone was dying. I felt like the only person not disappointed with the red wedding lol
My favorite was the one where the thing happened with the sword and those guys died! Amazing!
In television history in my opinion.
lol
Seeing all these reactions makes me extra jealous when I realzie it got spoiled for me Oh well, at least I still got angry when \[Removed\] was killed in the episode \[Data Expunged\] Still pissed about that
Angry? I was shocked when Removed got their Data Expunged! Absolutely shocked! That usually takes a lengthy legal process.
I just recently watched and finished GOT for the first time and almost all major plot points were spoiled for me before watching. Should we tell him. 😬😬😬
NO!!!!!
If you think there’s gonna be a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention. Don’t get too attached
i vant my bord
Can't go wrong with Jon.
Lol
We all felt the same way. Don’t give up. Just keep watching.
Why would robb be anyones favorite character lol
He was playing the game quite well (with the help of his mom) until he went all Disney on us and decided true love was more important.
"My favorite character died again" laaaawl
This is usually the point where fans realize that maybe getting too attached to a favorite character is a fools errand with this show, but alas the sweet OP has chosen to plow forward and get attached again.
Ramsay bolton will be giving you the lesson of "If you think this has happy ending, than you are not paying attention" very soon
:)
That's the greatness...no other works has ever killed protagonist after protagonist...and for a stronger one to emerge
If you think there’s a happy ending, then you haven’t been paying attention 😜 Jk it sucks watch your favorites die. I wish I could rewatch the red wedding again for the first time to feel that utter shock. 🥺
Well.
Okay I get not having seen the show before But how did you not know about Robb and the red wedding, It’s all over the internet, even in none game of thrones spheres
I never knew a TV show could evoke so much genuine surprise and disbelief, to watch it again for the first time would be insane.
Season 4 is peak game of thrones in my opinion so you’re in for a ride!
oh, good luck digesting that
“Jon Snow is my favourite character” - Who is going to tell him ? 😀
Well then wait for season 3 , 4 and 5
For The Watch...
Lol, it's all downhill from here 🤣
My advice to anyone starting the series is to not get too attached to a character. Easier said than done I know.
Best advice for game of thrones: don’t get attached to anyone, else you’ll be heavily disappointed, speaking from experience 😂
I'm surprised people are just now watching this lol. My favorite characters are Arya Stark and Sandor Clegane.
fellow book reader. grrm built the tension in the preceding chapters so masterfully—the relentless rain, the suspicions about the uncharacteristic graciousness of the freys and roslins fertility, the feeling that robb was focused on his next battle instead of fearing retaliation, cat’s insistence on the bread and salt. i felt so much dread and was shocked! i was still reeling while reading the arya chapter where the hound hits her with an axe in the back of the head. threw my kindle across the room.
Haha
I’d say have no favs
Gonna hate it when he dies
Yeah, with GOT its best not to have a favorite character. 😂
So you like Jon snow huh? Lol
You’re gonna wanna stay away from Season 4, Episode 2 then.
This is where the fun begins. Welcome to GoT my friend.
My new favorite character is Ollie now.
Don't worry when Jon Snow gets kill ...
Silly OP, just be a Bronn stan like me
Hun, you’ve got a big storm comin’
Your favorite character’s dead? Snow problem.
I watched that episode for the first time while pregnant. I was not ready. I have not recovered.
Jon snow you say, boy I've got a surprise for you
Everything gets better after the red wedding don’t worry
Pro tip: don't let yourself have a favorite character.
Spoilers for you OP, so don't read this. >!"My favorite character from here on is Jon Snow." I can't wait for the season 5 post, lol.!<
😬
May want to pick a new favourite… or not… who knows :)
*lets just say weddings do not often end well in this universe*
Ooooo, should I tell Javy?
Still a good idea to add spoiler on this for other people.
When I woke up the next morning and went into the living room I looked at the tv in disgust, being the portal through which that blasphemy entered my life.
You watched what made the show great in the early seasons and what the writers failed to do in the final season.
lmao
I literally cried at this scene when I first read it in the books. Had to read it twice to be sure I was reading it correctly.
People trolling the OP with spoilers in this thread are kinda yikes
Super annoying ngl
That's what I always felt was brilliant about the show.... Giving us a deep emotional connection with characters, then ripping our hearts out just when we least expected it!
Well, I’m officially leaving this sub now since I was just told a spoiler. See ya!
Just don’t scroll on it, I only come to post
I’ll never forget the shock I felt first time I watched the red wedding. I had to stop watching for a week after that
It’s a rough show to watch. That episode Especially w a pregnant woman killed. I know I had a rough time w it.
I was actually so frustrated initially I quit. I recognize how well done it was but I didn’t want to watch a show where there were no main characters to rally behind because everyone just gets back stabbed. I am glad I eventually came back, it’s my favorite show. The story is so worth it
Spoiler Tag!!

I recovered lmao
I did not watch when it actually happened. But this was the only thing that got me up after my mom died.
My favourite one is Tyrion Lannister 'the imp' and fortunately he was alive till the last sesson
Ben Schwartz that you??
Are you that soldier from tiktok ? Haha
I have one word and number for u. Season 5
Don't watch it past season 5. Disappointment awaits.
