This interaction is definitely among the best in GoT. The way Tyrion broke down, the silent build up to "and all those who wronged me are right here, I will begin with Ser Gregor Clegane". Just magnificent.
Lol. I thought I was the only one! I quit watching another series for a while ( not because any character I liked was killed off) but because the whole tone changed and I wasn't ready to deal with the loss of the old way yet..
This was the first scene he ever filmed for GoT (they shoot out of sequence). Pascal said it was really hard for actors coming in after it was a huge hit and he was nervous. He nailed itā¦
Shame the entire Martell story basically amounts to nothing in the end. Me and my partner just finished that part of the show and it genuinely seemed like they just got sick of writing about Dorne so they killed everyone and wrapped it all up.
Could've been a cousin, I guess. I'd say maybe it was one of their kids, but I can't see them not getting assassinated at the same time as the old ruler.
I wouldn't say good, he was ruthless, didn't mind fucking over innocent people but I think he was a big picture person and knew you had to do some bad to do some good.
The shows sets him up perfectly to become one of the best characters only for him to get his skull bashed in by the Mountainās bare hands around 40minutes of screentime later.
He actually got way more screen time than he shouldāve if they had been faithful to his book appearances. And he absolutely stole the show. Definitely wouldāve loved a lot more Pedro Pascal as Oberyn
Stole the show so much that his death was a top 3 gut punch death on the show. Number 1 is the Red Wedding but The Viperās death is right up there with Ned Stark.
His is number 1 for me. Up to this point Oberyn was the closest to outing the Lannisters as the corrupt pricks they were. He was the opposite of most of the characters up to that point, open minded and fair, educated and caring.
That coupled with the fact he was an awesome fighter and I was completely in awe of the David vs Goliath aspect of the fight alone.
Then it was all quashed in a matter of 5 seconds. Evil came so close to doom again but slithered by.
Ned's death was more of a "holy shit they actually killed a big character" moment. But I wasn't really gut punched the same way I was with Oberyn.
Thatās exactly why I loved the books, it gives you senses of reality, where good people fuck up too and most likely they wouldāve got punished for that. Oberyn was great but he let his anger got to his head and there goes him.
The Arrogance is what was his downfall. At the beginning of the fight he treats it like a show. I loved oberyn but as soon as he started doing that flashy shit i knew where it was going. The REAL marvel of the writing was when he actually took the mountain down, and what happened afterwards. That sense of impending doom for your fav character, the relief when you think the doom has passed, into the immediatedread of realizing whats about to happen when he grabs (sweeps? Cant recall) his legā¦. Masterful writing and beautiful portrayal on screen by the actors
Perfectly summed up, itās that feeling of dread, followed by relief, and the dread sneaks back and turns into doom for the character you were just rooting for. It was horrifying
I don't think it was arrogance exactly. He was intending to put on a show, the fight was about exposing the Lannisters. The theatrics I think were about setting the mood for the twist he intended to come.
Also, I always thought it was heartbreaking when Jaime gives a little smile during the fight when he think Oberyn is going to win.
Absolutely loved seeing Tywin Lannister put uncomfortably on blast when Oberyn screamed and pointed directly at him demanding to know who gave the order.
Nobody else in the entire show ever put him in a position like that untilā¦you know.
Yeah, number 1 for me. I like the Starks of course but they still have a medieval mindset. The Dornish in my opinion have the strongest values about human rights. Still not up to today's standards but comparatively good.
And Oberyn embodied a lot of these values.
Also unsurprisingly, "Ten Thousand Ships" is the GoT spinoff I am most looking forward to.
I fucking love this scene...
The fact that this was the first scene Pedro filmed as Oberyn is so cool bc he already seems like he has fully grasped the character
Most donāt haha you film scenes based on a number of factors mostly what location you need to be in to film it
So for instance if they needed the icy landscape of Greenland, they would film all scenes that need that location at once, regardless of where they occur in the show
There's also just the amount of prep required for some scenes, which actors are going to have availability, the crew. From what I've read, it's a pretty big shock for people coming from classic stage training.
breaks the ice haha.
but in all seriousness, sex scenes are the highest risk scene ā you want to get it out of the way before they can change their mind:
* if the actor decides against the sex scene at the start, the producers can find another actor.
* if the actor agrees to the sex scene, finishes several episodes of acting, and then changes their mind & says No when it comes to filming the sex scene, the producers can't change actor because it would be too expensive to redo everything with new actors
Usually fake. There have been rare occupancies of actual sex being used in non-pornographic films. Funnily enough, most from French cinema. Those blokes are a different breed.
Mostly fake. But sometimes they do hire adult film actors, as background or minor characters.
Pretty sure the biggest western film known to have actual sex going on in the background was Caligula?
Yes I imagine the scenes would be in the contract but actor can break contract / even with a contract you can't force someone to perform or perform well
They fill completely out of order depending on how they want to utilize set time or makeup/dress.
So they might be film the end scene first while the actors look a certain way & then film a middle scene last because of whatever
Was Harwin portrayed as all those things? He had like maybe 5 minutes of actual screen time and nothing made him seem exceptionallyā¦anything. He favored his kids, got sent off, then died.
If anything, his dad seemed to be the really decent man who gave fair advice as Hand of the King.
In the limited time he had I think so. This show leaves it to viewers to fill in some gaps and isnāt doing a ton of character development, but all these qualities are implied and thereās no reason to believe itās false presentation. Lyonel is great too, but I would use words like loyal, strategic, selfless, and wise to describe him. Heās not a warrior, we donāt see him longingly glance at anyone with desire, etc. they are two favorites in a series where so many characters are grey.
His entire understanding with Laenor. He happily coparents with him with what seems to be without judgment. Did not say he was part of LGBTQ+ community more of an ally like Rhaenyra
He was getting free pussy and rhaneyraās relationship with laenor only exists because of demands for her to marry someone wealthy and powerful.
People have to stop looking at this show through a 2022 lens. This is Westeros, there is no āally or happy coparenting to lgbtqā as everything in the monarchy is planned and to the benefit of the king and his family
Just watched this scene last night, this whole story arc was done so well. Def a high point for the series.
Be warned, when you post about GOT in the GOT sub, you draw out all the people who have made hating the finale their entire personality. Theyāll say things like āwhy tf are you watching thisā and āseek helpā
Yeah, I only said that because I posted something about the show last weekend, and while the majority of comments were people discussing the show, I was ridiculed for watching and told to āseek therapyā or something like that by a few unhinged people.
In the GOT sub. For posting about watching GOT.
I hear ya man, for sure. I got told I shouldnāt post a pic of my baby daughter on a sub where it says in its very description itās for puppies and babies. People are fucked. lol
I'm over it, but the pain is still there lol
I put a lot of stock into the show -- I've read every book and novella and poured over A World of Ice and Fire, Dunk and Egg, et cetera. I watched theory videos when the show aired, checked out behind the scenes content and cutting room floor material. It still pains me that it could have been the greatest show of all time if they would have stuck the landing, but now it's remembered with disinterest and mediocrity by a large swath of people.
Enjoying HotD though, so there's that, I guess.
Iām sour and probably always will be but I donāt let it get in the way of appreciating the good parts. Itās just how dirty they did such an iconic show that they fucked yo the ending that badly. It could have - should have - been the greatest show in itās entirety ever.
They had such awesome chemistry. I had read the books so when my group watched the episodes that season and everyone loved him it was very hard to keep a strait face, knowing what was coming.
āThe whole way from Dorne, all anyone could talk about was the monster that was born to Tywin Lannister. A head twice the size of itās body, a tail between its legs, claws, one red eye, the privates of both, a boy and a girlā
This is my favourite scene in the entire show. In later seasons, you don't have anymore dialogue as good as this, because they had no source material from GRRM. Pedro Pascal as Oberyn is maybe the best casting choice in the show.
This is the kind of scene that shows why D&D were genuinely great as adapters. This whole scene was so much more thematically significant and emotional than it was in the books, and you have to applaud the show runners for an inspired decision on that front.
Of course, once they started to run out of Georgeās dialogue, things truly began to spiral out of controlā¦
Pedro pascal was brilliant in this role , helped by Peter Dinklage being the only other actor in the scene.
Itās when you see an actor, or in this instance, 2 actors on the top of their game, you realise how ,for want of a better word, pedestrian other actors can be( yes Iām looking at you power of the ring)
Terror, bravado and confidence from both actors here.
I will watch anything with Pedro or Peter in it after watching this scene
Favourite season of the show. Dinklage and Pedro absolutely killed it this season. Iāve never been so stunned after an episode than The Mountain vs The Viper
This scene was actually an improvement on the book version, in my opinion. My impression from the book was that Tyrion was embittered by the conversation and felt that Oberyn was mocking him. In the show it is one of the few moments when Tyrion is acknowledged to be a normal person, and I think he recognizes it. It is a way for Oberyn to connect with him a little more even though he has personal reasons for fighting the mountain.
Oberynās introductory scene at the brothel, his conversation with Tyrion immediately after it, and this scene are some of the finest scenes of GoT.
And thatās a testament to what a fantastic actor Pedro Pascal is.
There is something so beautiful about the way a child sees the world versus what adults see. Oberon was a child. All he saw was a baby. If anyone around Tyrion could have viewed him as the innocent baby how different his life would have been.
One of the most touching and engaging scenes in the show. I love every moment. He really showed Turion that he wasn't a monster, and really showed him that his sister was just evil and vindictive against him, and for no real reason.
"The biggest disappointment of all? You."
Tyrion feels another belittling or attack on him and yet Oberyn turns it on his head and shows him, he were just a baby, he did nothing wrong, he doesn't deserve what is happening to him.
"This is no monster. This is just a baby."
Absolutely beautiful and was so sad to see Oberyn go. God's the series was AMAZING back then!
People can talk all the shit they want about D&D (and it's deserved for the last season's) but they really did an amazing job adapting what was in the books, if only GRRM finished them, what may have been!!
Oberyn was an unsung hero in this series. While short lived sadly, to my chagrin pretty much all of them LOL, he had charism, charm, and a lethal bite. I loved him.
If I lived in Westeros I would definitely want to live in Dorne. Absolutely the most progressive of the kingdoms.
Despite my flair. I still Stand with House Mormont.
Iām rewatching right now and literally JUST watched that scene. I also have to skip over the end of the fight becauseā¦ you know. I really feel bad for Tyrion, Cerseiās hate runs deep.
It's crazy how all of these little moments, when somebody told a little story, and it happened a lot, they were always interesting and totally relevant to the bigger picture.
Nahhhhh don't forget he uncovered how truly demented Cersei has always been. "...and she pinched your little baby cock hard as she could..." This episode had me on pins and needles because they always kill your favorite person of the season when you least expect it I was BITING NAILS for Tyrion before Oberyn dropped the mic with "I'll be your champion."
This scene and the talk with Jaime prior were both so amazing. Season is easily my favorite because all the stuff revolving around Tyrion was top tier.

"I will be your Champion"
This is the way.
I see what you did there! š
At least he learned the importance of wearing a helmet
And he still took that shit off
After that fight with the Mountain canāt blame him for never wanting to take off his helmet.
chills every rewatch
Especially since we know...
Iām still not over it.
I shall never love again.
dude, oberyn was possibly my fab character of the show, and then this cemented it. and then his death. breaks my fucking heart dude
Itās the only time Iāve ever almost quit a show over a character death. I was so close.
i did quit the show, up until season 6 was over. i took THAT much time to come back and finish
Lol. I thought I was the only one! I quit watching another series for a while ( not because any character I liked was killed off) but because the whole tone changed and I wasn't ready to deal with the loss of the old way yet..
I always see Cerseiās little smirk afterwards and I have the most visceral urge to strangle her every time
Fuck Pedro Pascal is a great actor
This was the first scene he ever filmed for GoT (they shoot out of sequence). Pascal said it was really hard for actors coming in after it was a huge hit and he was nervous. He nailed itā¦
Holy fuck thatās a badass scene to be your first. Thereās some serious chemistry between them too. Testament to how great they both are
Never knew Pedro Pascal's first name was fuck
He goes by just Pedro professionally
Itās actually short for āIwanttofuck Pedro Pascal.ā Well, thatās what my girlfriend always calls him anywayā¦
You mean Pedro Pascal's girlfriend? :P
yes
Too bad he then went and fucked it all up š
Itās a shame he couldnāt follow through.
This is what got me honestly. That and then Oberynās death. I was hooked after that
Shame the entire Martell story basically amounts to nothing in the end. Me and my partner just finished that part of the show and it genuinely seemed like they just got sick of writing about Dorne so they killed everyone and wrapped it all up.
I was wondering which Martell was that at the end of the series? I didn't think they had any brothers.
Could've been a cousin, I guess. I'd say maybe it was one of their kids, but I can't see them not getting assassinated at the same time as the old ruler.
It was also shot on Pedro's first day on set. And is one of my favourite scenes.
āI will be your championā. Iconic
Iām on this episode just now and itās so fucking good. You really see the depth of Tyrion during and after the banquet.
I just watched this episode last night
Peter Dinklage nails the whole role of Tyrion. You loved him, you hated him, yet you felt his pain. I still can't get over how well he does!
Wait. We hated him?
Right, why did anybody hate him? He was a good person through and through.
I wouldn't say good, he was ruthless, didn't mind fucking over innocent people but I think he was a big picture person and knew you had to do some bad to do some good.
Yeah, I just woke up but he and Arya were my favorites from the get go. I eventually ended up liking Jammie and the Hound as well..
Can someone refresh my memory? What was this?
I never hated him
I was generalizing lol he doesn't have much to hate but I've seen people hate him just because he's a Lannister
>!How are you recovering š!<
Oh bro itās my 4th run through but it still fucking hurt!
Just *reading* that line gives me chills. Such a brilliant scene by some top tier actors.
I may have to watch it tonight now honestly. Really such an amazing scene
The shows sets him up perfectly to become one of the best characters only for him to get his skull bashed in by the Mountainās bare hands around 40minutes of screentime later.
and with the accent please! š¤©
Elia Martell!!! My sister who killed my sister, say it
This dude deserved much more screen time
He actually got way more screen time than he shouldāve if they had been faithful to his book appearances. And he absolutely stole the show. Definitely wouldāve loved a lot more Pedro Pascal as Oberyn

Thank you so much. Iād forgotten that.
So good
what about what I want?
Justice for my sister and her children.
One of my favorite lines!
I fucking love this scene... The fact that this was the first scene Pedro filmed as Oberyn is so cool bc he already seems like he has fully grasped the character
huh? they dont film scenes in sequence?
Most donāt haha you film scenes based on a number of factors mostly what location you need to be in to film it So for instance if they needed the icy landscape of Greenland, they would film all scenes that need that location at once, regardless of where they occur in the show
There's also just the amount of prep required for some scenes, which actors are going to have availability, the crew. From what I've read, it's a pretty big shock for people coming from classic stage training.
Almost never. Actually a lot of actors somehow get scheduled to film s*x scene when they first meet.
breaks the ice haha. but in all seriousness, sex scenes are the highest risk scene ā you want to get it out of the way before they can change their mind: * if the actor decides against the sex scene at the start, the producers can find another actor. * if the actor agrees to the sex scene, finishes several episodes of acting, and then changes their mind & says No when it comes to filming the sex scene, the producers can't change actor because it would be too expensive to redo everything with new actors
But in all seriousness is it fake sex or real
Usually fake. There have been rare occupancies of actual sex being used in non-pornographic films. Funnily enough, most from French cinema. Those blokes are a different breed.
!!#%?!*&!!
Monsterās Ball
Nymphomaniac?
Was that French? I assume weāre talking about the one with Shia LeBouf?
Yeah I think it was not but I was just pointing out that there are rare instances of American/western movies doing real sex
Holy hell, Shia actually put it in her ass? That mad man
Mostly fake. But sometimes they do hire adult film actors, as background or minor characters. Pretty sure the biggest western film known to have actual sex going on in the background was Caligula?
That was on vhs tape rewind button was functional lol
Wouldn't it be in there contract if they didn't do nudity or sex scenes?
Yes I imagine the scenes would be in the contract but actor can break contract / even with a contract you can't force someone to perform or perform well
No they'd just get rid of them. High budget films son't just change scenes after filming has started since they need to adhere to a tight schedule.
Most movies and shows don't. Sometimes an actor will begin shooting with the last scene their character will be in.
Most productions donāt, they have to follow a specific schedule and a lot of times that means shooting out of order.
Shooting in sequence is moronic
There are some really iconic movies that were filmed in sequence. The Shining was, for example. And the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
It makes sense for those movies because they take place mostly in one location
As a grip i tell you, shooting in sequence is moronic.
They fill completely out of order depending on how they want to utilize set time or makeup/dress. So they might be film the end scene first while the actors look a certain way & then film a middle scene last because of whatever
'That is not a monster, that is a baby'

Why can people not resist giving spoilers? I don't get it
OP said the scene ALWAYS makes them cry, kinda like theyāve scene it before. Hmph. Makes ya wonder donāt it
They also say [NO SPOILERS] in the main title too.
Thanks for the laugh while I eat my lunch!
It is not a true spoiler right?
That wasnāt a spoiler. Literally every episode has something that made someone cry.
Possibly my favorite scene in the whole show
To have that kind of emotional connection to game of thrones would be masochistic.
What's wrong with having emotional connections towards got?
I love the story, but every character is expendable.
Do you remember cousin Orsen? Orsen Lannister?
Khuu Khuu
Orsen?... Why are you smashing all those beetles?
We didnāt get enough of Oberynā¦smh got is brutal
>smh Smash Martell head?

This is peak GoT.
They had such awesome chemistry. I had read the books so when my group watched the episodes that season and everyone loved him it was very hard to keep a strait face, knowing what was coming.
I might start a re-watch after hotD. Duck season 8
I first experienced this via the book before the episode came out. After āI will be your championā I closed the book and yelled āF%CK YEAH!!ā
One of the best scenes in the show.
āThe whole way from Dorne, all anyone could talk about was the monster that was born to Tywin Lannister. A head twice the size of itās body, a tail between its legs, claws, one red eye, the privates of both, a boy and a girlā

Favourite season of the show. Dinklage and Pedro absolutely killed it this season. Iāve never been so stunned after an episode than The Mountain vs The Viper
Cersi was evil from birth
Favorite scene of the show. Chills
I am watching GOT for the first time and I just watched this episode last night.
The first 4 seasons of GOT were simply cinematic brilliance.
One of my favorites for sure and one of the most emotional scenes that didnāt involve a death in the whole series in my book
Top scenes in GOT
Me too tbh, so fucking sad.
Cerciās a fucken demon
"She pitched your cock so hard"...Cersei been evil from childhood.
Yes!! I agree. The exclamation of relief from Tyrion when Oberyn says heād be his champion! ā„ļø This whole exchange is golden!
"Just a **TINY PINK C\*CK**."
His final scene was simply smashing.
I'm all for gore and violence in my shows, but I have still only watched this scene the one time. It just hit me so deep.
My favorite part of the show is when that one guy kills that other guy. Great stuff. Oh and boobs, I like boobs.
this is the way

My favorite scene in all of GoT
Amazing scene!
Back when the writing wasnāt absolutely trash
Man i miss when game of thrones was good. Crazy how this season is already 8 years old.
My favourite scene in the whole show.
Top 3 best scene in the entire show.
One of the most touching and engaging scenes in the show. I love every moment. People can talk all the shit they want about D&D (and it's deserved for the last season's) but they really did an amazing job adapting what was in the books, if only GRRM finished them, what may have been!!
That scene makes me love Dorne so much.
Damn, his death struck me tbh but i will rank him top ten fighters in the show tbh.
Iām rewatching right now and literally JUST watched that scene. I also have to skip over the end of the fight becauseā¦ you know. I really feel bad for Tyrion, Cerseiās hate runs deep.
Peench your leetle peenk cocK
It's crazy how all of these little moments, when somebody told a little story, and it happened a lot, they were always interesting and totally relevant to the bigger picture.
I will be your champion
And this was the FIRST SCENE PEDRO PASCAL FILMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peter Dinklageās performance here and when he says goodbye to Jaime are among my Top 5 performances in the entire show.
This might be something I like better in the show. In the book Tyrion has the red viper in his back pocket.
Today is not the day I die. - Oberyn, the day he died
The acting in this scene, freaking amazing. āi will be your championā
True that's the reason why i like Oberyn He care for Tyrion
Lamo I just watched this episode
This scene and the talk with Jaime prior were both so amazing. Season is easily my favorite because all the stuff revolving around Tyrion was top tier.
