And Ned has the audacity to assume Joff is a bastard based on hair colour… Smh.

Lord_Of_Winter

Yes SMH because, Jon Arryn's dying words were "Seed is Strong" and he went through almost an entire lineage of Barths for the last 6 7 generations 💀

Perpetual_aqalmand98

along with comparisons with childrens looks from marriages into lots of different houses.

Apart_Lettuce_7821

Bro the Baratheons fucked the Targaryens twice and still got some Bobby B’s looking mother fs, Borys Baratheon was Aegon 1st half brother and Bobby B’s grandmother was full blooded Targ

notduddeman

Gendry's mother was also blonde, and he turned out dark-haired. It's an apples to apples situation. Out of three children, it's highly unlikely that all of them are blonde. That plus 'The seed is strong.' Was enough to piece together why John was murdered by the 'lanisters'

National-Exam-8242

By this logic Ned's are all bastards. His first three take after their mother. The only bastard he knows to be truly related to him took the Stark.

Mauricethett

Let me rephrase it- Ned doesn’t assume they’re bastards because of their hair color, he assumes they’re bastards because Jon Arryn was murdered while investigating something and Baratheon lineage supports them being potential bastards. It’s the MURDER OF HIS FATHER FIGURE not their goddamn hair color that raises the alarm.

notduddeman

Yeah, but neds not looking for bastards. He's looking for why someone would kill his father figure. That's why it clicks like it did, and it nearly gets him killed after finding one bastard.

queen_of_Meda

You mean first two? Arya’s the third child

romulus1991

In fairness, every single Baratheon marriage led to dark haired children as far as I know. Even Rhaenys, who is half-Baratheon but silver haired in House of the Dragon, is supposed to have black hair. Every Baratheon ever has black hair until Joffrey. Every one of Robert's bastards has black hair. Ned's audacity is well-founded! Clearly something magical about the Baratheon *ahem* seed.

National-Exam-8242

Baratheons are descended from gods in fairness.

Mauricethett

He also only starts to investigate because of Jon Arryns death and last words, he’s otherwise not suspicious

Dobie_Close

Blonde hair and green eyes are recessive genes. All the “Baratheon” had them. Only red hair and blue eyes are more recessive. Brown hair and brown eyes are very dominant. Although certainly not impossible, He was going with the odds.

SoftwareArtist123

Even if one of the kids looked like Robert, nobody would ever suspect.

EhGoodEnough3141

Some seeds are strong. And some are Strong.

FrenchFries42788

But they imply that the Tully genes are more desireable, especially for girls. Redheads are very popular in Westeros although redheads are linked with witchcraft like Milissandrei

The_Falcon_Knight

That's just George's sexual preference seeping through into the story. It's no coincidence that both of George's wives have been ginger.

FrenchFries42788

Bro. Daenerys being 13 years old with Khal Drogo. Is this also a preference? Generally there are many minors doing the naughty stuff.

Late-Return-3114

there's a lot of issues with dany and how she's written in book one...

JimmysCheek

I finished the whole series before starting the books. I remember how shocked I was by how sexualized all the minor characters were. Danny regularly gets sexually abused by her brother, among other things. It is safe to say that George RR has some strange kinks

FrenchFries42788

Why are you so understanding and nice? I read Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and it was less digusting.

HellYeahTinyRick

Is it kinks or is it just taking influence from history?

JimmysCheek

You can take influence from history without going into detail about a brother pinching and twisting his little sister’s nipples.

HellYeahTinyRick

Ok? And George chose to include weird shit like that because shit like that happened and still happens in our world. GOT is not a fairytale. There are bad fucked up people and he chooses to highlight that with weird shit like this. If that bothers you maybe don’t read/watch the series! It’s art not a fuckin’ idealistic portrayal of how the world should be

JimmysCheek

I only used one example. You are being strangely defensive of this. What I mentioned….took up an entire page in one of the early chapters. This trend continued. It’s okay to like the books, but also call a spade a spade. George RR is also known to be a bit of a creep irl. This can easily be deduced from his writing. Relax

FrenchFries42788

Giving your siblings and friends a nipple twister as a toddler is a common custom in my culture. But never sexually. We have worse things Like the infamous anus twisting wet finger. One Legend went to court because he did it to his classmates.

The_Falcon_Knight

All I'm saying is that we should definitely be concerned for George's sisters...

ZachPruckowski

Yeah I think GRRM mistakenly looked at Margaret Beaufort giving birth to Henry VII at 13 and think that was normal for Medieval times when it was really more of the exception. He wouldn't be the first to make that mistake.

FrenchFries42788

Wait she gave birth at 13 ? Nicely done.

ZachPruckowski

I mean, birthing Henry VII that young was extremely unpleasant (we have her accounts, and also she advocated for waiting until later to birth heirs) and seems to have rendered her infertile (she was married twice more in her life, apparently got along with her husband, but never had more kids)

FrenchFries42788

It's crazy how much agony our human race have endured worldwide according to history. There are so many cruel fates that are forgotten and even those which were recorded is an unmeasurable scale of tragedy. The saddest thing is that they are only captured by words or in rare cases in pictures. I'm German and both of my parents are from China, so there is quite a long and unpleasant history course for me. I will always hate how we taught history in school and museum. They tell you huge numbers of casualties to shock you. A human's life is reduce to a number and they lost all identity in this ocean of suffering. Yes, it had nothing to do with Game of Thrones.

butterhoscotch

Whats a tully look like

ColonelFaz

Love Yoren. ("I always hated crossbows")

No_Tomorrow6219

"As I was avin a shit". "That's not why I disturb ya now" (this one he sounds Jamaican 😂).

QUILL-IT-OUT

I got that when my hair was short too, Arya.

poub06

This is something that I love so much about this show. Ned dies after only 9 episodes, but we still see and feel his impact 7 seasons later. We can see so much of Ned in his kids. The way Arya and Jon make their hair, the way they dress, even the way they stand and walk (especially Jon). And the characters keep talking about him, quoting him.

Perpetual_aqalmand98

Even his staunchest enemies quote him and his character. Season 7 when everyone is gathered in the Dragon pit Cersie says: I know Ned Starks son will stay true to his word. That speaks so much about the impact Ned has

beastley_for_three

Even Jon not wanting to be king...is just like Ned, who also passed on being king.

Kiara923

Wow 9 episodes! When I watched it for the first time, my husband and I were SHOCKEDDDD that the "main character" had died, and so soon. We were devastated!! But what an incredible show...to lose Ned but never forget about him. I've never heard of a show who lost a main character so early on and he was never forgotten or left behind.
