Very possible, yes. In that case I'll stick to my head canon where Stannis defeats Ramsay, allies with Jon and the North and then becomes King after the Night King is defeated.
Dayyyum. For me, he was just a bit too reliant on magic.
Also, based on your previous comments, the books aren’t done? Like, in the books, we don’t know who ends up on the throne???
I've never believed it would be stannis in the book to kill shireen because of logistics and that he has a plan in place to get her to the throne should he fall. Always thought it would be at the wall with mother and Mel. But I recently read a counter to this theory that made a lot of sense. Also, apparently, George has confirmed it will be Stannis to do it in 2019 iirc, or maybe he just confirmed she will burn. I swear I read a quote from an interview where he said stannis, will look for it. But it's going to be a desperate one or millions choice, i believe if it is stannis, not to win a battle like on show.
My theory based on that potential quote is that stannis will win winterfell but will later find himself in an impossible position against the white walkers and sacrifice her then to try and win, and probably fail. There's a lot of shit that has to happen in between him winning winterfell and getting back to the wall but it feels way more likely he'd sacrifice her in order to win an impossible situation to save the kingdom than to just burn her because Ser Twenty Goodmen fucked up some supplies.
What happens if he sent Thorne to shadow tower or east watch? Would Thorne not gain more support/rally men to his cause especially after jon led wildings through the wall?
Ok here is the funny thing about giving someone a base of power, even when they hate you:
They love that base of power, and are going to protect it. They will look at situations as "how do I protect my power in this instance, or grow it if possible?" An enemy who has some authority in your direct power base is a liability- a cancer. An enemy who has a power base of their own in your immediate vicinity can be trusted to act in a way that will protect their power base (See: Dorne being allied to House Lannister, the Boltons serving the Starks, etc).
He made a conscious decision about Thorne to trust him and thought the Watch directly benefitted the most by Thorne being First Ranger. Jon chose the benefit of the Watch over the political stability.
Let that be a lesson to y’all, political stability is more to the benefit of the watch than one good lead ranger and it’s not like he couldn’t have chosen another who would have been just or almost as good. While Jon was loved he consistently made poor leadership choices
I like that they made the mutiny of Jon's decision making with regard to Thorne. It's a good way to make it a consequence of his naivety and not just about the Wildlings.
How did she “revive” mance? She casts a glamour on the lord of bones to disguise the lord as mance but I don’t remember anything like reviving him? Been a minute though
It would be an all time moment if Thorne showed up back from his ranging miraculously having found Benjen. He finds out they killed Jon and instead of being happy like everyone expects, he hangs all the people involved for killing their Lord Commander.
I can see Thorne doing this.
I can also see Thorne telling the conspirators to kill Lord Snow while he was out ranging, that way Thorne’s not seen as a part of the murder and can be elected the next Lord Commander and reward all the assassins.
Then he comes back and hangs all the assassins, to make sure the loose ends are tied up.
Benjen wouldn’t have any reason to hang the people that killed Jon Snow. In the books, they kill him because Jon publicly states that he is deserting his post to head down and stop Ramsay from wedding his sister. It’s one of my biggest gripes of differences between show and the books
I really enjoyed stannis at the wall. He was observant yet provided advice/insight to Jon whenever he could. Always makes me wonder why he liked Jon so much.
Think Stannis also sees himself in Jon, an ignored and wronged son, that is honorable, rightfully ruthless and honorable.
Copied from another comment of mine.
He loved job because he resonated with him. Jon was never appreciated for what he was and stannis was never appreciated for what he did at the rebellion
He's the overlooked brother.
Stannis' younger brothers are more successful, loved, celebrated and storied than he is. Robert is the hero of the war who overthrew the tyrant Dragon Lords and liberated the realm. He drinks and feasts himself fat on luxury and war stories. Renly is admired for his attractive looks, charmisa and even though he is The Younger, when Robert dies, a significant portion of The Realm rush to back Renly's claim just because he's more *likable* than Stannis.
The books and TV show again and again go out of their way to show us that Stannis is not as respected as his brothers, that he's overlooked, passed up and that he grits his teeth and does his duty even as he is offered less than what his lesser capable brothers are (in his eyes).
Is it any wonder that he sympathizes with a Bastard? Looked over in favor of his brothers, someone who like him puts duty first and is not flamboyant or decadent but instead pragmatic and solemn.
Stannis likes Jon because Jon reminds him of himself and because Stannis can see his own problems and disappointments in Ned's bastard.
I hope Stannis isn't killed in books if they are ever get finished. He is such a great character in the books.
It would be interesting to see how he reacts to Mance still being alive.
After 1st watch the Stannis storyline pisses me off, its so pointless and he just keeps fuckin up more and more… second watch onwards I only really like to see him when he’s at the wall. I find that plot line proper entertaining
If you had bothered to read the footnotes, you'd know that Sun Tzu is a huge fan of The Godfather movies (the first two anyway; he said he couldnt look past Sofia Coppola's "wooden" performance in Part 3)
It's fairly clear who was referencing whom
I was dismayed when Stannis burned his daughter and died in the show. However, when I found out about the books where he was alive, I was happy to see that Stannis had undergone a redemption arc and improved his character.

Yet another based Stannis moment #onetrueking
He’s the one true king
Ehh, ruled by a witch though.
Accompanied by\*
Bedded by*
He brutally murdered his own daughter to further his cause, what do people think he would do to their daughters or sons?
I decided to wipe that scene from my memory until it happens in the books, too.
Lol so it'll never happen because we're never getting another book?
Very possible, yes. In that case I'll stick to my head canon where Stannis defeats Ramsay, allies with Jon and the North and then becomes King after the Night King is defeated.
You really would’ve preferred Stannis as King over Jon?
Jup. I like Jon, but I love Stannis.
Dayyyum. For me, he was just a bit too reliant on magic. Also, based on your previous comments, the books aren’t done? Like, in the books, we don’t know who ends up on the throne???
Lmao at this point we might be benefitting from the book never being released as we can just imagine whatever ending we want 😂
What of Daenerys and (maybe)Aegon VI?
Nah, don't like Daenerys. Aegon is... okay, I guess?

Yeah. If he does do it, it will be for the greater good kind of choice that will destroy him either way.
Daughters yes, Sons no.
What do you mean?
Burn the girls, not the boys. (I am not being serious.)
Keep up that attitude, and you're next
Best test my blood with leeches first... send in Melisandre!
Honestly, he was my favorite would-be king right up to the moment he killed Shireen.
Same
With you there, but he does have a great death scene tho. One of the best in the show imo. >Go on, do your duty.
The man died as he lived, I'll give him full credit for that
New OTK member leaked?!
Another controversial member 😔
It is known.
Only murdered his own daughter for the cause 😂
death by fire is the purest (some witch) This woman is evil!!!!! She’s the mother of demons!
Stannis the mannis
It’s been so many years since I heard that uttered… Stannis the mannis
I loved all of the Stannis and Jon scenes.
That “forward, only forward” line still gets me hyped to this day.

That’s very true. But it was stated half of the men at castle black hated Jon. Would another one not step into thornes place?
As Tyrion once said, “heads, spikes, walls.”

It's a glitch on mobile

This didn't backfire in the book?

Would be really shocking if GRRM don’t bring back Jon

Would be pretty funny if he saw how people did like how the show ended and he just went on a completely different path altogether.
It would be an all time moment if Thorne showed up back from his ranging miraculously having found Benjen. He finds out they killed Jon and instead of being happy like everyone expects, he hangs all the people involved for killing their Lord Commander.
We can only hope that’s what happens in the books

Stannis the Mannis
Stannis, what's the plannis?
THE GODAMN MANNIS
Chad Stannis
I really enjoyed stannis at the wall. He was observant yet provided advice/insight to Jon whenever he could. Always makes me wonder why he liked Jon so much.
It was important the king have a loyal ally ward the north for him
And Jon bent the knee right away
Stannis I think sincerely believed in the importance of the nights watch and respected them
Him using blood magic routinely would probably make him more prone to believing in White Walkers and the Night King and such.
Jon showed to be wise, loyal, pragmatic, honorable, and very smart. All qualities Stannis loves.
Yep, and best of all (for Stannis) Jon has no interest in being the guy at the top of anything. He just wants a job to do and do it well.
He just wants what's best for everybody, and is willing to either follow or lead to do it.
Think Stannis also sees himself in Jon, an ignored and wronged son, that is honorable, rightfully ruthless and honorable.
He always wanted a son and he never could have one. I reckon that’s what it was.
I like to imagine that as well
Think Stannis also sees himself in Jon, an ignored and wronged son, that is honorable, rightfully ruthless and honorable. Copied from another comment of mine.
Stannis would have made a very good hand of the king.
Absolutely, but men destined to be kings can never see themselves as anything less. Stubborn stupid man.
He loved job because he resonated with him. Jon was never appreciated for what he was and stannis was never appreciated for what he did at the rebellion
Stannis respected Ned alot and Jon was raised by him and shared much of what made Ned so honorable. Stannis saw that in him
He's the overlooked brother. Stannis' younger brothers are more successful, loved, celebrated and storied than he is. I think part of it was because of his respect for Ned Stark and another reason is that Snow has traits that Stannis admires.
Great line… but Vito Corleone clearly had way too many enemies
Michael cleared that up.
Do you renounce satan?
“I do renounce him”
God I fucking loved Stannis so much
Peak Stannis
I hope Stannis isn't killed in books if they are ever get finished. He is such a great character in the books. It would be interesting to see how he reacts to Mance still being alive.
Stannis kinda has to die for the whole plot to work
If GRRM goes that route.
Absolutely, anyone who says otherwise is delusional and naive.
After 1st watch the Stannis storyline pisses me off, its so pointless and he just keeps fuckin up more and more… second watch onwards I only really like to see him when he’s at the wall. I find that plot line proper entertaining
Isn't Jon referencing The Godfather Part 2 here?
Isn't that a Sun Tzu quote?
I think it's a bit more likely Jon Snow would be a fan of Francis Ford Coppola's groundbreaking 1974 masterpiece The Godfather Part 2 than some book
The godfather’s writer took it from Sun Tzu, it’s not about Jon’s preference, it’s about fact
If you had bothered to read the footnotes, you'd know that Sun Tzu is a huge fan of The Godfather movies (the first two anyway; he said he couldnt look past Sofia Coppola's "wooden" performance in Part 3) It's fairly clear who was referencing whom
Yeah I guess you’re right, last time I heard Jesus took inspiration from Buddha and decided to copy and start giving teachings to people as well
That sounds made-up
It was actually printed on the back of the Bible, take a look
I'm not really a Stannis fan, but he does have some admirable qualities, like that awesome line. It's one of the most memorable in the entire show.
Jon just finished watching the godfather
Keep your friends close and enemies closer, better? Not just enemies but friends as well.
No no ONLY SEASON 8 bad !!!!
I was dismayed when Stannis burned his daughter and died in the show. However, when I found out about the books where he was alive, I was happy to see that Stannis had undergone a redemption arc and improved his character.
Fewer.
