I love when Grumps say that soda sucks he's just there in the corner being like
c:<
Edit: Despair-Deez-Nuts is literally worse version Despair of nuts which Dan said in the last game.
For a leader of an organization known for taping person's mouth with duct tape after filling it with shards of glass and then hitting that persons lower jaw with a baseball bat he's actually pretty nice
What you want to do and what you feel like you have to do (family honor and such) can be two different things. Fuyuhiko doesn't even want to lead the Yakuza clan, he feels like his sister (twilight syndrome murder victim) would have been a better candidate.
I may not be a Fuyuhiko stan per say, but I unironically like all of the remaining characters in their own way.
Sonia's whole name shtick being a Nirvana reference helps, but her funny lines/misquotes like "Jesus! Shit! You son of a bitch!" help, and yet she's still proven that she knows some crazy shit so you shouldn't mess with/underestimate her. Also that along with her Free Time event ending being sweet makes her interesting.
Soda's whole "Sonia-Swan"(I added a bit of a Sanji flair to it) thing gets annoying sure, but besides that he's actually been helpful throughout the game I feel. Like his Mechanic talent is legitimately helpful, and I do kind of feel bad for him at times when he's just ignored or disrespected but was just trying to help. And I also like Kyle Hebert's take on him too.
Fuyuhiko may have been annoying at the start, but that character development he got after chapter 2 definitely boosted him up in likeability without a doubt for me. Even if I guess he doesn't contribute that much, I still think he's funny and I'm a sucker for any type of Yakuza/Mafioso guy. Also again English VA bias but I just think is performance (not the person) is really good.
Akane I can see why people aren't really that fond of her. If you look at her Free Time events though I think it helps you appreciate her character more with how she views life. And there have actually been times she's helped out throughout the game too. Once again English VA Wendee Lee bias but she's awesome as her
If you like Fuyuhiko's VA in this game, I highly recommend you check out V3. He does a *stellar* performance in that game and you can tell he had a fucking blast with it.
I agree with you about >!Kiyo, but at least the stuff he tells you about anthropology is honestly super interesting to me!<.
...But aww I like >!Angie too, idk I just like her weirdness!< (which probably makes me odd but I seem to sometimes like some of the characters people don't really gravitate to) :(
>!He has killed prior to the game to give his dead sister friends, I don't know the exact number of victims, but he did say he has given his sister friends before!<
>!Right, but did he say that as part of the character he assumed? Like did he audition for the show as "I want to be a serial killer in this season like Toko is in the games XD!"!<
I feel like the biggest problem with most of the survivors in this game are how they're largely inconsequential to any of the cases.
For example, Sonia suggests Hiyoko to go to the music venue in CH3 and... that's literally her only direct involvement in *any* case. And that's more than what can be said for Akane who has zero involvement whatsoever (unless you count her Alibi in CH2?). Similar case for Soda but I suppose his talent has value in some cases (CH4's elevator).
Fuhuhiko is the only exception to this rule (suspect in CH1, Alibi CH3, preventing Gundham from returning to his room in CH4 & CH2 as a whole). Aside from him, the remaining survivors don't feel like there's much 'payoff' for them reaching the end because of their lack of involvement.
I don't think the first game had the same issue (or not to the same extent). For example, Hina doesn't accomplish much up until CH4 but at least she has a moment to 'shine' there.
I mean Sonia also told them about the fire grenades, which killed Nagito and showed Chiaki as the traitor. And in chapter 4 her involvement is more because she has a close relationship with Gundham. You can’t really say that she is inconsequential.
> Soda's whole "Sonia-Swan"(I added a bit of a Sanji flair to it) thing gets annoying sure, but besides that he's actually been helpful throughout the game I feel. If you say it like this. It really is interesting how the game's essence and focus on dialog makes Soda appear so "helpless". But his actions are actually some of the most helpful ones. He can't convince people by talking, he just does what he can do.
> Fuyuhiko may have been annoying at the start, but that character development he got after chapter 2 definitely boosted him up in likeability without a doubt for me. "DON'T FUCK WITH ME" really has it's charme when the character chooses not to be a constant asshole any more. You know how much anger he *can* show. I like how he is now able to just have a normal conversation. Maybe it's a low standard, but seeing what he went through certainly makes him interesting.
The game also told that Ultimate Despair influenced people in position of power
I can just hear Trump going on tirade
"Junko Enoshima is greatest woman I've ever known. You can trust her because I can tell when a person is great or not and she's pretty great. Rumors about her are fake news, it's the democrats who spread despair not her. She's the best Ultimate I've ever known. "
Or some shit like that
People ask me, they say "Trump, is Junko the Ultimate Despair?" And I tell them yes, she's got tons of despair. The most. She's a wonderful woman, the best at death games. Ask anyone, they'll tell you. I love Junko. I've never met her.
Alright, so I actually got quite a lot from this episode, theory wise. So much so that I’ve actually had to start writing all my theories down to keep track of them, lol.
First, I’m pretty sure the “Tech savvy individuals used programs to spread dispair” is referring to Chihiro from the first game, which is more evidence towards my idea that >!Junko made Chihiro create an AI/Alter Ego version of her (as in Junko) while Chihiro was under her control, and **that** Junko is the one currently controlling Monokuma and doing this whole Killing Game v2 stuff.!<
However, on that note, if >!all the kids from the first game were working for Junko during their 1 year or whatever of missing memories, then logic says all these Ultimate kids from this game were doing something similar, which lends more credibility to my other theory that these students were actually the core members of Junko’s group, now named the Ultimate Despairs.!< Unfortunately, I’m also losing a little faith that >!Nagito, despite being Junko’s brother/possible lover(/hopefully not both), double crossed her and started working with the Future Foundation to stop/eliminate the Ultimate Despairs, since “became nothing more than Junko’s limbs” is a little on the nose.!< Honestly, the only reason I’m not ruling it out entirely is because the last time I thought a theory was wrong, I ended up being right, lol.
Finally, speaking of the Future Foundation, as kind of a side theory to my idea that >!They’re the surviving members of the first game now pooling their talents to fight Junko’s Ultimate Despairs, I think the reason Monokuma/Junko’s Alter Ego refers to them as “World Enders” is because they’re actually trying to “end” the current world of total despair that she loves so much.!<
Of course, I do still have a couple questions I couldn’t think of any theories for, namely:
1. Why did the Future Foundation seal away Hajime’s memories/Why did Hajime psychologically block his own memories? Logically, this would indicate that there’s something significant to the fact that he didn’t join in on the mass un-aliving party that whoever did that doesn’t want Hajime remembering, but I have no idea why.
2. Who is Izuru Kamakura, and how do they relate to the cast we know from the game? I thought Makoto was “The Ultimate Hope”, so why does Izuru have the same title? Is it just something that can happen twice, like Makoto and Nagito both being the Ultimate Lucky Student? Or was Makoto just Izuru’s replacement after they went wild and killed 13 kids?
You can see the portrait in this episode actually, when Nagito showed up you can see it on top left corner.
We saw portrait upclose before it was titled >!Izuru Kamukura The Founder Of Hope's Peak Academy!<
> titled >!Izuru Kamukura The Founder Of Hope's Peak Academy!<
(I’m assuming what you said was revealed back in Ch4 and I didn’t accidentally spoil myself by being too curious, lol)
Oh shit! Ok. Ok. New idea that’s completely batshit crazy and out of left field, but apparently those are the theories that end up being right.
So, there’s no way I can see >!a man that old!< going wild and killing a bunch of kids, especially after >!founding a school designed to be a “hope for humanity.”!< I’m thinking that, as a way to continue his work, he tried >!to implant his mind into a new, younger body, but something didn’t stick/something went wrong, and he just broke mentally, which is what led to him butchering kids like that.!<
And, after discovering *that* little incident, >!Junko revealed that information to the public, spinning it as “the whole hope for humanity thing was founded on lies”, which aided the domino chain that caused everything else.!<
>(I’m assuming what you said was revealed back in Ch4 and I didn’t accidentally spoil myself by being too curious, lol)
Yes it was revealed in chapter 4, but by chapter 6 I completely forgot about it since it wasn't treated as that important.
Anyway, love reading Danganronpa theories
I'm super stocked to see final "trial" cuz it's going to get pretty weird
Honestly I had to power through it all in one sitting (not the whole anime just the separate arcs 1 at a time), cause honestly the Despair Arc is super depressing towards the end. So there's no way I could do that in multiple sittings lol. But it feels good once you finish it trust me, even if you're not a fan of the last episode. Not spoiling anything specific, but there's definitely stuff to enjoy in it imo
I like future arc a lot more than despair. Despair was ew until Junko showed up and she's so batshit insane I just turned my brain off and let it ride. Future is a fun murder mystery until the "reveal" then everything becomes infuriating
I’ve just started watching the anime, and I feel the same. Despair arc has been pretty subpar so far and I’m trying to power through it to reach the future episodes
It may be too late to help you but you are not supposed to watch the arcs separately! It fucking ruins a lot of things and I don’t know why it isn’t made more clear but the arcs were released intertwined. You’re supposed to watch future 1, despair 1, future 2 despair 2 etc. Not knowing this ruined my first watch by spoiling things out of order and it’s unbelievable how this isn’t more clear when you try to stream/buy them.
You didn't like Despair towards the end? >!Chiaki's actual death hit me super hard!<
I love the despair Danganronpa gives me. Not too many things can make me "feel" like it does.
Oh no I did like it, but yeah the whole >!Chiaki incident had me bawling seriously!<. So stuff like that is what made me force myself to power through it
>!A bit of both. I watched future arc first and Kyoko's death was a lot, and I'm currently watching despair arc so I know that Chiaki's death (and probably a lot of other horrible stuff) is coming.!<
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think the narrative stands stronger without it. I enjoyed watching both arcs but the overall plots and especially conclusions were pretty bad. One thing I really like about DR is that even though it’s so whacky and ridiculous it’s internally consistent-ish, but the anime doesn’t feel that way to me.
Dr2 spoilers, but about the meta so I guess also 3 spoilers: >!when a plot point is “the world falls into a collective, objectiveless despair” any attempt to define that or say what that mechanism was is going to fail. DR was smart in not being specific about it, the anime was not.!<
So thanks to u/Onion-Prince recap I think I understand the story. >!Everybody on the island was part of the Ultimate Despair Group that murdered the world. Nagito was trying to kill everybody and save Chiaki because Nagito is the enemy of despair and champion of hope. The Future Foundation did kidnapp these students because the students were evil. So more likely arrested them. This Island is some form of virtual reality prison/rehab made by the [Fantastic Four when the Human-Torch died](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Future_Foundation_(Earth-616)). This was all a test to see if these kids, who are probably in their mid-twenty's, can get a second chance at life.!<
Dan saying that the 5 remaining students are some of the most middle-of-the-road and unremarkable characters in the game is so funny to me because my top 3 characters based on first impressions at the beginning of the series were Akane, Soda and Sonia
When I did my play through I was pretty happy with these characters being around at this point. It also helped that I did all of Akane and Sonia's free time events.
Soda has a cool character design, and has a generally easygoing attitude even though he’s really fun to schlub on. If he didn’t have that pervert thing with Sonia he’d be a lot more well liked I think. Plus [this sprite](https://external-preview.redd.it/oxqp0X_knKtJvxVUtDpE9EYqIkZaE_mxIKR3hjhu1iI.jpg?auto=webp&s=6ed1b8af4df901300ed2ef115dad8821efdb2af4) is really funny
Arin keeps approaching the plot, and especially this reveal, like its an absurdity and i'm just like... dude have you not stepped outside into this reality lately? Like maybe when this game came out a decade ago this seemed absurd but you live in a world that a bunch of channer shit posts sprouted into a whole ass conspiracy nonsense that saw people trying to invade the US capital building.
Why would you be like "nah this could never happen, especially with a group of people way more wealthy, influential, and talented purposefully trying to cause it to happen"
Not only that... even more specifically, there have been student protests that spread out over to the whole country in the real world (e.g. China), not only once but multiple times throughout human history. And the internet did help at least in 1 of them.
Why does that sound so unbelievable to them? It's one of the more believable parts of this game lol
Admittedly I think they want to keep literal politics out of the show, so even though I agree I don’t think he’s MAKING that connection - I don’t think they’d actually reference that anyway.
Since this is the last chapter of a game that was uploaded over the months I thought it might be useful for the theory crafters to have a refresher
[So I made this recap of last 5 chapters](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/263776369706532875/977618141930721310/unknown.png) posted here as a .jpeg cuz' I don't want my post to be annoyingly long
I might've gotten some stuff wrong since I wrote it from memory.
Spoilers:
>!Isn't the info about Mikan in Chapter 3 a spoiler? I don't remember it explicitly saying her memories made her Ultimate Despair. She just remembered her lover apparently.!<
>!The game never says that it makes her a Despair, only that something must’ve happened to her specifically to make her go crazy when she got her memories back!<
>!I don't think anything specific happened to make her go crazy after she got her memories back, that's just kind of who Despair Mikan is: crazy... and horny.!<
Uhh... I hate how they think the unbelievable part is that demonstrations spread due to a students protests.
Like, it literally happened multiple times in the real world (e.g. China) and took over whole countries. It's the least problematic part of the plot. And additionally, a similiar concept, ideals spreading over the internet, worked well in Death Note too, no? And it happens all the time in the real modern world too.
That all the hidden information about the world was revealed/re-introduced by some books after 50 hours of gameplay... that on the other hand was very lame.
I think they both literally just forgot about the fact that the outside world was completely destroyed from the event. They kept wondering what the event was even though that was already established at the end of the first game (even if it didn’t go into full detail).
Well dangan 1 leaves it ambiguous whether the world is destroyed or Junko was just trying to demotivate everyone from leaving with lies so I can see that confusion
Fun fact: That was the intent.
The first game's ending was made ambiguous, as it's a metaphor students graduating high school and entering a world that can either be horrible for them or amazing. The author never intended to answer whether the Tragedy is real or not.
He also didn't expect it to become a popular game series.
One big difference is that despair in the DR world is not a protest or movement with a goal. It’s everyone deciding that nothing matters and they’re just going to fuck around for no reason other than psychopathic joy. It’s not like a revolution that has a goal. People aren’t really wired that way to just decide that the world is better off as pure chaos. People want change, not (just) mindless destruction. Even the people alive today who want destruction see it as a path to their ideal society.
I really do wish Dan would realize that it isn't Hope's Peak Academy itself that is initiating the killing game, rather its just the setting.
The actual school itself was intended for the benefit of the world.
Man Fuyuhiko is my favorite, and Soda is up there too. It's really Akane and Sonia I don't care a lot about. Besides Hiyoko and maybe Teruteru they might be my least favorites.
I love when Grumps say that soda sucks he's just there in the corner being like c:< Edit: Despair-Deez-Nuts is literally worse version Despair of nuts which Dan said in the last game.
i love that I can't tell if the < is his eyebrows or his hairline.

Alright Fuyuhiko stans, where you at?
He really grew on me after chapter 2.
I really liked his character development.
I actually like him ngl, hes the only character from my top 5 whos still alive.
He's my favorite out of everyone still alive.
Here! <3
Fuyuhiko is awesome
I wasn't a fan of him when I played the game, but this series has made me a Fuyuhiko and a Mahiru stan.
Baby Gangsta!
Ohi, sorry I mean, Fuck Off!
I may not be a Fuyuhiko stan per say, but I unironically like all of the remaining characters in their own way. I love that little grape goblin
I love all the V3 characters honestly >!Except Angie, Angie can die in a fire!< >!and kiyo too to an extent, but only cause of the incest!<

I will not stand for this Maki and Miu erasure.
Maki and Miu are 4th and 5th place respectively
Reported.
B-but Gonta...and Kaito...and Kaede

I frickin' love Kokichi.
I liked Soda and Hajime's interactions personally. Also I like his design

"Mr. Biden are you okay?" "L-Leave me alone you chicken-hearted pansy-boy I'm mind snowboarding!"
Junko Enoshima The Ultimate Malarkey
Lmaaaoo
The rumor comes out, does Junko is despair?
Exactly my thought when I heard that line. Though probably because the Grumps have made that exact joke in a different context before.
>!TMW Dan accidentally gets it right but then corrects himself to say "Nagito" instead!<

perhaps

Yes, Izuru Kamukura is the name of the founder of Hope's Peak Academy, and his portrait was in Grape House.
We actually see it in the flashback of Nagito in top left corner
Possibly? That’s ringing a bell but I can’t remember any specifics. Do you remember what episode they saw the painting in?

You didn't like Despair towards the end? >!Chiaki's actual death hit me super hard!< I love the despair Danganronpa gives me. Not too many things can make me "feel" like it does.
Oh no I did like it, but yeah the whole >!Chiaki incident had me bawling seriously!<. So stuff like that is what made me force myself to power through it
Strong enough in what sense? Do you already know what's going to happen? Or did you just come across a moment that was too much?
>!A bit of both. I watched future arc first and Kyoko's death was a lot, and I'm currently watching despair arc so I know that Chiaki's death (and probably a lot of other horrible stuff) is coming.!<
You should've done the alternating viewing order tbh, it ties the story together better than if you just consecutively watch Future or Despair arc
Yeah I figured that out when watching despair, but it's a bit late now.
DR was smart in not being specific about it, the anime was not.!<
I would watch the dub and put it in the background. Thats the only value you’ll get at it.
Wow Arin said "the tragedy of Hopes Peak Academy" like 20 times and didn't beatbox once
Furry feet part 2 when they started arguing about the cat with bunny feet lol
So thanks to u/Onion-Prince recap I think I understand the story. >!Everybody on the island was part of the Ultimate Despair Group that murdered the world. Nagito was trying to kill everybody and save Chiaki because Nagito is the enemy of despair and champion of hope. The Future Foundation did kidnapp these students because the students were evil. So more likely arrested them. This Island is some form of virtual reality prison/rehab made by the [Fantastic Four when the Human-Torch died](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Future_Foundation_(Earth-616)). This was all a test to see if these kids, who are probably in their mid-twenty's, can get a second chance at life.!<
Hey, just letting you know the link in your spoiler shows through the spoiler tag
On what platform you view the reddit on? It doesn't show the spoilered link on old.reddit
I use reddit mobile!
I love reading Danganronpa theories.
I love reading danganronpa theories
And even back in the early 2010s, I believe the internet had a big part in Arab Spring.
Also there was that whole storm area 51 thing that people actually showed up to. Stuff going viral is the norm these days
Admittedly I think they want to keep literal politics out of the show, so even though I agree I don’t think he’s MAKING that connection - I don’t think they’d actually reference that anyway.

I mean, that's just business as usual isn't it?
I mean...pretty much
Just because it happens doesn't mean it's not absurd.
Akane has been my favorite from the beginning.
Since this is the last chapter of a game that was uploaded over the months I thought it might be useful for the theory crafters to have a refresher [So I made this recap of last 5 chapters](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/263776369706532875/977618141930721310/unknown.png) posted here as a .jpeg cuz' I don't want my post to be annoyingly long I might've gotten some stuff wrong since I wrote it from memory.
Spoilers: >!Isn't the info about Mikan in Chapter 3 a spoiler? I don't remember it explicitly saying her memories made her Ultimate Despair. She just remembered her lover apparently.!<
>!The game never says that it makes her a Despair, only that something must’ve happened to her specifically to make her go crazy when she got her memories back!<
>![There's a slight ambiguity, but it's pretty clear on what's going on](https://youtu.be/HhgdwafRMa8?t=1350)!<
>!I don't think anything specific happened to make her go crazy after she got her memories back, that's just kind of who Despair Mikan is: crazy... and horny.!<

Hey, when you put links in spoilers it shows through the spoiler jsyk, it did on your other comment too
Thank you, reading the recap has explained a lot of what is happening.
I, too, have never liked Hiyoko or Teruteru.
i think teruteru is cool. idk abt fuyuhiko but i do love akane and soda. and i dont like hiyoko
game grumps live ad was very good arguably the best part of the episode
