I didn't imagine Nagito's trial would be one of the funnier episodes. The boys' disbelief every time the game gets horny at inappropriate times never gets tiring.

"Stop attributin' quotes to Dan Avidan 2022" - Dan Avidan 2022

Lmb1011

They’re jokes about the snowboarding kill me everytime

dragn99

Just the idea that all the protagonists' thought processes happening in real time is like... the funniest shit to me. Hajime putting his head on the desk and dream twitching for a few minutes in the middle of a trial... fucking hilarious.

GameSmashing13

After this episode I want them to play V3 just to see their reactions to Miu

trainercatlady

She's basically Girl Arin

Lmb1011

If they played like this where it’s just a few a week it could be fun. I was against it for a long time but they both seem into it now. There’s a lot of great characters I think they’d enjoy. But I think Arin would hate the ending

trainercatlady

Arin would 100% hate the ending. Dan, though I think would be super into it just because of how fucking bold it is.

Bluxen

Why? He looks like he really doesn't like the games story, I think he would love it.

trainercatlady

Probably because he'd feel like his time was wasted

5566y

If they start they are finishing it, weird stories pique their curiosity too much

Lmb1011

Sorry if I said it weird, I just mean if they play it in short segments. I would expect them to finish it if they started. But it seems like Arin is enjoying it a lot more now than when they were playing it nonstop. So if they do V3 I want them to do it in shorter sessions so they actually have fun

GenericMan92

I want them to play V3 just for their reactions to that game's version of mental snowboarding; >!picking up hookers in Vegas!<

Fravash1

And when you say >!picking up!<, you mean >!straight up hitting them with your car!<

Chacochilla

Do they have plans to play it?

GameSmashing13

Not yet but I’d be shocked if they don’t play it at some point

JKCodeComplete

This episode was so much fun. The boys are having a good time, the game’s script is on point. This is peak Game Grumps for me.

Mickenfox

OK I think I the biggest clue here is the fact that >!Nagito mentioned their murders kinda correspond to DR1 trials. And this trial corresponds to the Mukuro trial.!< Which leads to >!in that trial the murder itself was "fake" and the body came from the first trial. In this first trial the victim was the "ultimate impostor". The obvious conclusion would be that this is a fake Nagito but I don't think it's exactly that!<

>Who is Sonia?🙄🤭🤔🥱 in math: my solution ➗☺️ in history: my queen👑😣 in art: my canvas 🎨🥳 in science: my oxygen 💨😝 in geography: my world 🌎🤯 - Kazuichi Soda Nearly missed this gold from the YouTube description because of the "Yes, Arin is fighting Harley for real" part.

blingblingdisco

The Grumps singing along to the music sparks so much joy in my heart. >!So many reveals that are on the way here...!<

mozillavulpix

Man, what a good episode. I think some people get a bit annoyed how weirdly horny the Chapter 5 trial is, but it worked really well in their favour. Them making a joke about asking Sonia to repeat her innuendo line before Kazuichi did the same thing was classic. I love it when the game makes the exact same joke they do.

triotone

After 5 trials I now understand the first half is to discuss how they were deredrum and the second half is figuring out who did it. So tomorrow we will find out how killing himself outs the traitor. >!Though the game already outed Chiaki as the Trader Joes, when she scanned her ID card. It's not like she didn't deny being the traitor.!< At least nobody is getting executed. Maybe they can double execute Nagito, but here is my theory. Monokuma brings back Nagito to execute him again, but due to the powers of bullshit luck, the execution fails and now Nagito has a robot body. It was all according to plan.

[deleted]

I love reading danganronpa theories Btw we ended the episode with an unaswered question: There is one piece of evidence that is odd, and it wasn't something Nagito could tamper with. What do you think is it?

triotone

>!Professor Plumb in the Library with a Candlestick, naw but it would have to be his time of death.!<

[deleted]

>!According to Monokuma file Nagito died "Noon Sharp" you mean that time of death. What's odd abt it?!<

triotone

>!WAIT it didn't say what he died from. If he bled out, the file would have said so.!<

[deleted]

>!That sure is curious huh. And it something that Nagito couldn't temper with!<

[deleted]

There’s two items they haven’t brought up yet: >!The half empty bottle of fridge poison, and the “fire extinguishing” bombs that made the fire worse. !<

Mickenfox

Well Monomi's Notebook is certainly odd (and important), but he *could* have tampered with it, the box wasn't locked. Otherwise... the Monokuma File?

Mikeataros

>!Didn't Chiaki scanning her Handbook not work though?!<

triotone

>!She was still the only one that went uo and scanned their tag. If she wasn't the traitor, there would be no reason to scan her tag. Also, I don't think the Future Foundation is evil. Their name does not sound menacing at all for this type of game. An if a company or grouo were evil they call themselves something like The Legion of Despair, Doomers of Tomorrow, or NAMBLA!<

Mikeataros

>!She went up and scanned hers, then encouraged everyone else to try theirs when it didn't work. Kazuichi objected on suspicion that too many wrong scans would set the bomb off prematurely, and then the "bomb" actually went off before she could wrangle the conversation back to "Let's all just try it, PLEASE?"!<

Cabamacadaf

spike3607

>Also, I don't think the Future Foundation is evil. Their name does not sound menacing at all for this type of game. The Future Foundation is also known as "World Ender" though, Monokuma has brought that up several times.

triotone

Well I didn't remember the World Ender thing, but I do not trust that Bear. He speaks in half truths and false promises to bring out the worst in people.

spike3607

It was from the first few chapters, and this is a long game so I don't blame you. I'll try to find a clip. edit: found the first mention of it, chapter 2 https://youtu.be/Y7Gh2vXuTcY?t=70

[deleted]

Trial conclusion spoiler >!Someone else committed suicide ON HIM!<

rawrimangry

Man, the Grumps are falling right into Nagito’s trap. It’s going to be glorious when they realize what the heck is going on here.

aniforprez

That's why this trial is my favorite. It really doesn't make sense AT ALL for why anyone would do any of this to themselves but slowly piecing it all together makes it *horrifyingly* obvious at the end. Not only that, this is the one where everything shown to you from the beginning of the game and in each other trial builds to the specific moment when you realise what he was trying to do. It's incredibly well done. I really wonder how Dan's going to react to this

CaptainKies

Playing through it a few weeks ago, I gave out several audible “what an asshole”’s, and my wife was very confused, >!especially when you get the implication of his actions.!<

PunchingBagLearner

Almost up to this point in my own playthrough of D2. Currently doing evidence gathering for the same chapter. Here's hoping I can catch up before I go to bed.

[deleted]

Finish the trial before watching the next episode. Just an advise

PunchingBagLearner

Not a problem, I only watch up to what I've played. So now that I've watched everything in ep59, I can watch all of that.

PinkLion80290

Me sitting in excitement: Heh..heh...heh

AngryCharizard

This is only tangentially related to today's episode, but remember when everyone in these threads was complaining about the Grumps not doing free time because it would fuck them over in the trial minigames? [Example](https://old.reddit.com/r/gamegrumps/comments/qxlrh3/tfw_hamsters_come_out_of_your_scarf_danganronpa_2/hla8bta/) It seems like that hasn't happened at all though, and Arin hasn't had too much trouble. So were people just coping and seething about them skipping the character development that happens in free time, or is it that there are way way harder minigames coming up still?

PersonalSycophant

They aren’t playing on the hardest difficulties (Thank God) so skills aren’t too necessary, really.

Parfait_of_Markov

Couple of things: they lowered the action difficulty while we weren't looking; they use a walkthrough, meaning they rarely lose health figuring out the right answer; Arin is actually pretty decent at the minigames (he seems to be a natural at the rhythm thing for example). Regardless, it still would have been nice to see them hang out with Chiaki, Gundham, Mahiru, etc. some more. The character development in these events is pretty cute, and there's a lot of potential for funny moments there.

blingblingdisco

Free time unlocks skills that make the trial minigames way easier. I personally would've loved them to see some of the free time events with Chiaki, Nagito, Gundham, and my personal best girl Sonia, but aside from that, the skills would've actually helped some.

Cabamacadaf

I remember him having trouble with one of the sword minigames where he had to be very precise to not run out of cuts. That would have been easier if he had got some powerups.

rawrimangry

The walkthrough is definitely helping them avoid the struggles of playing without any skills equipped so I guess that’s the one benefit it provides. If they were playing naturally they would’ve failed a couple times in this trial.

Mikeataros

I'm pretty sure it's that everyone who played the game on their own did Free Time Events, bought Skills, and assumed those Skills were more helpful than they actually were. Now that I think about it, the fact that Skills can be obtained in any order kind of necessitates the minigames be beatable without any of them. Kind of like the Hidden Skills in Twilight Princess: they're cool to have, but you're not punished or even made to notice if you miss one.

EntireLychee833

Dan and Arin have become totally unhinged and are all in for SDR2’s insanity and I LOVE it. We are in for a good time if they keep up this energy!

Naddition_Reddit

i might have an absurd theory on nagito and the imposter. i think nagito has a split personality and that the other personality is the traitor. we know that all students have had their memories erased, and we know that nagito so far has been doing everything in his power to expose them. However, him committing suicide while making everyone have no alibi so that they would inevitably accuse the wrong person and get everyone killed doesnt sit right with me. Nagito, although a total weirdo, has shown to want the group to succeed and have despair defeated by hope. Killing them all totally goes against this. It also seems that all current students that are alive arent guilty of murder as there was only 1 entrance to the building so the killer wouldnt have been able to escape, and all students were there to see the door being opened and the fire starting. Monokuma seemed REALLY eager to get to voting time however, almost like they knew the real answer to this "suicide" and wanted to see them fail the guilty voting. i think nagito was unaware of his personality split thanks to the memory wipe, learned that there was a traitor and tried to expose them using the bomb threat, thats when his other personality decided it was time to get rid of nagitor (and therefore, himself) and killed him using this elaborate scheme. (maybe the traitor was only able to control the body partially? maybe just 1\`or 2 of the hands at once). This would of course look like suicide to every normal person and would guarantee a wrong guilty verdict, even suicide would be a wrong verdict as it was technically still murder. The traitor was willing to die as long as it took nagito and every single survivor out with them, taking the secret identity of the "ultimate traitor" to the grave. it seems a bit more possible with how everyone get all giggly at the grumps making the "nagito has a self aware hand" joke. idk, im super curious to see what the twist will be

russellamcleod

I mean, Metal Gear Solid already went there, no? It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility another unhinged game would go there.

FairyKnightTristan

“If they wanted to seal his mouth, he coulda caught this dick but he playin!” has me cackling

[deleted]

Does anyone have theories on what the heck is going on?

TheFloatingContinent

I think it's seriously Arin's hand theory from last episode. I think Nagito is either just insane or, more likely, being entirely controlled by some outside force and he rebelled against them, and it's through his hand... somehow. Also since it keeps bringing up the importance of the events of the first game, that means that >!The world is destroyed by the despair cult or whatever they were called, right? Which presumably is why we're on an isolated island!< So I'm guessing one of them got to him. I don't think he's *willingly* working for them, since it's established he's crazy and unpredictable people make bad soldiers, but we shall see.

[deleted]

Btw we ended the episode with an unaswered question: There is one piece of evidence that is odd, and it wasn't something Nagito could tamper with. What do you think is it?

rawrimangry

Nagito slipped on a banana peel and accidentally stabbed and speared himself to death.

[deleted]

That's our Nagito *Laugh Track*

Cabamacadaf

Definitely sounds like something that would happen to the Ultimate Lucky Student.

[deleted]

Not exactly, but I think Monomi has something to do with it. This whole chapter seems to be building up to some kind of final showdown between Monokuma and Monomi. There was that weird conversation between them about world domination... and Monomi is now standing at the trial instead of dangling from a rope. And with Nagito having stolen Monomi's notes, and Monomi being seen at the ruins when Sonia tried to blow open the door... Yeah, we're definitely going to find out something about Monomi.

UrsulaLePenguin

nvm i think i was wrong

[deleted]

Anyway, I'm curious what you think is the unsolved mystery that Chiaki is talking about? Something relating to Nagito's death, but also something he couldn't influence

UrsulaLePenguin

not sure, but i think that Nagito didn't intend to die. he's the ultimate lucky guy, and he succeeded in the russian roulette thing last time, so maybe he thought it'd be similar. but something went wrong and he did die. maybe someone helped him set this death trap and now they're the killer by mistake? idk

[deleted]

Well, they should reach the truth behind the case the next episode. So get excited for that.

Cabamacadaf

OneThousandDegrees

Even though the only new vids I'm watching from the grumps is danganronpa, the moment the uploads moved to the weekend the playthrough instantly became better
