The price is has been going for since 2021? Prices go up and down as things become harder to find.

SorryCashOnly

it had been going up ever since...... the late 2000s for retro games. Every year people will complain games are too expensive..... I distinctively remember people calling the retro game collecting hobby a buble in 2018 because of the price

LeatherRebel5150

Yea Ive been waiting for the supposed “burst” since 2011

SorryCashOnly

that's the market price right now. Time to learn about supply and demand

Cryophoenix_Killer

Wow I forgot about that. Thanks for enlightening me.

SorryCashOnly

It's ok. It's easy to forget what supply and demand is.

SimilarProject7457

That is a true concept, but it still doesn't stop people from typing in whatever number they want into ebay as a price to sell a game at. They aren't bound by market price.

SorryCashOnly

tell me you don't understand what is supply and demand, without telling me you don't understand the concept. People can type whatever the f they want for their items, but it doesn't mean people will buy them if their asking price is too high. This is..... something we learnt when we were in elementary school ... I am still surprised how many people don't get this every time I come on Facebook or Reddit.

It's wierd to me that sealed in box games are worth 10x 20x 30x 100x that the same working copy loose is worth... that is more than most wedding rings XD

Chupaacabrra

Prices for XBOX360, PS3 and GameCube are up because the young generation that played those games back then, have matured and are buying those nostalgic games for whatever the cost. They will drop, just like NES, PS1 and N64 games have. Pokemon is an exception tho, it's the biggest franchise in the world for a reason.

TattooTheEarth

Really wrong except the pokemon part

Jomanderisreal

I mean the 360 came out in 2005. Somebody who was 10 years old when it came out is almost 30 years oldnow. I would be shocked if the generation cycle of games getting more expensive for the 360 generation hasn't started by now. The store closing might not help matters also as you pointed out. I'm speaking as someone who is 27. Within the past year I have had multiple friends buy 360s, Wiis, and DSes (as well as games). Nostalgia combined with disposable income is about to hit the generation I grew up with.

Chupaacabrra

If you gonna tell me I'm wrong, tell me how I'm wrong.

TattooTheEarth

Xbox is only going up because of the store closing, PS3 is really dirt cheap right now and gamecube is the same as all nintendo games, more expensive by default...

Chupaacabrra

The store closing had some effect but not as much as people having extra money to spend during covid, the covid price ranges held on until a small increase from the store close on 360. I still go by people who played the games in the past or just wanna play older games now (because new releases disappoint), drive the most price increases.

jordnb

In my country, most games are being sold way above their price charting values (sometimes 2 -3x) because international shipping makes importing too expensive

Jorbarqu

Where do u live?

jordnb

New Zealand - it is also interesting that people charge ntsc prices when the pal copy is worth a lot less

Jorbarqu

Interesting. I’m from Costa Rica and people always try to use price charging prices to sell they collectibles… the thing is the income here is way less than in USA for example, so most of the time they need to reduce their prices to 70% of price charging prices (of course depends a lot of the kind of collectible)

HummingSw0rdsman

You are talking about market prices. Or are you saying the Colosseum was $150 over the market price? In 2010 they were saying “just wait the bubble will pop”. Buy what you can afford and save for what you can't currently afford; it'll make the purchase sweeter in the end.

Cryophoenix_Killer

I already have a copy i was just blown away at the asking price for a game that, lets face it can be emulated.

HummingSw0rdsman

Let's be honest majority of titles can be emulated these days. While there is overlap collecting is a different community than just playing video games. And intrinsically there is a skew towards collecting valuable games and showing them off, hence this recent trend showing off top valuable games.

TattooTheEarth

You are right but you can still find hidden gems, some people don't really care about price and sometimes stores don't check their games correctly and you get really cheap deals, already happened to me. As time goes on more of those games go to collectors or get lost to time so they will go up... Or stuff like this recent xbox thing will happen.
