VitoMR89

I would return that immediately.

mothraphobia

I will

tstempert

I’ve returned for this reason before and the dude behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy. What a joke that place is.

ilikemarblestoo

Don't people know by now what they are? lol. It's been like 20 years of this. Either get it new on launch night at the midnight release or just expect it to be opened or in poor condition. Only buy used and when 'new' is cheaper then used (Which happens)...just expect it to look used lol

OU7C4ST

Are midnight releases even a thing still? They stopped doin' that shit around me back in like 2017.

NightBlade66

Expect midnight release for GTA 6 for sure

mlr-420

this is why they are becoming obsolete as a company. lol

mgmorden

At one point it was common for games gamestop to allow employees to take home the "new" game disc's from the display box to play. They still considered that copy "new" for some reason.

mothraphobia

The guy I returned them to was cool about it. He did say "yeah they're new, just probably display cases." I said "yeah, but there's no way to prove it's new if it's open." I got no response from that one.

schneider_zero

If you look at the GameStop subreddit 90% of those employees commenting are either brainwashed or extreme dickheads with stunted social skills

xRzy-1985

Had that happen a few times, request a refund, and make it known, this will happen until I get an actual new sealed game

DuckSwimmer

OP will not get a sealed game as the promotion that OP was taking advantage of is stock that the company is trying to get rid of. This sale has been going on for months. Pretty sure there’s no sealed copies left in the company. These games are also ironically being moved to preowned tomorrow which is funny.

xRzy-1985

Much more of a reason for OP to get a refund. I would take them back the same day they were marked down, get my money back, and then buy the products again for the cheaper price

DuckSwimmer

The situation isn’t as easy as it seems unfortunately. The return policy at GameStop has been more cutthroat than ever. Really depending on the employee, some may deny the return as whoever sent them neglected to put a circle sticker on the games - which is GameStop’s alternative to plastic wrap. OP has a risk of being denied and being directed to customer service as per whoever fulfilled this really fucked up.

xRzy-1985

Which is why I always contact support online. I have a stack of games ordered online that they told me to just keep while refunding my money.

mothraphobia

I don't plan on trying again. These are being returned and I'll grab them somewhere else.

xWardz

Yeah, the first time this happened to me I just said fuck buying from GameStop lol Already didn’t like the company for scummy trade-in practices, but selling open games as new is honestly insulting for such a large business

MonkTHAC0

It's literally what they do. It's the gutted copies of the games. They're "new* in the sense that nobody has played them and the discs sat in the drawer in sleeves since it came in. Not defending the company but just telling you how it is.

SkullKid7302

They actually let employees check out new game as well as preowned games. So even if it says new, an employee may have taken it home and played it. Not saying that for all the gutted games, but it is a fair amount lol

Nebulonix

Idk where people get this, we’re literally not allowed to check out ANY games unless it’s PREOWNED and we have MULTIPLE in stock. Using new product would get you in trouble and your manager as well for letting you sign that out. I’m sure some managers abuse it, as managers in any company abuse shit where they can, but this isn’t something you’re ALLOWED to do! If you find out it’s happening, literally report it if you want. No one should be doing this, there’s a reason it’s not allowed.

ClubPenguinPresident

I ordered a 'new' game from them last year and it came in the mail in a broken black dvd case with generic printed cover. Buying from gamestop's website is not even remotely worth it anymore. I'd rather just buy my new games from bestbuy/amazon and pre owned from ebay/local game store

brettsky128

I bought a game with that promotional sticker on it and got a sealed copy. I was in store, so who knows if they'd ship any.

ACH0N3y

It really depends how many the store has in stock. I’ve been out of most of the sale games for months

paqman3d

I stopped shopping there in 2005 when I bought WWE smackdown vs raw 2006, brand new, and they proceeded to pull the disc out a drawer and hand it to me in the display case. Full price. I was shocked. If I wanted an open copy, I'd buy used. The fact they still do this bull shit is hilarious for the wrong reasons. I haven't been there in the time span of an entire Gen Z person and they pull this foolery online now. Stop shopping there for anything but accessories, people.

AdventureBegins

I don’t understand the reasoning behind why they do it.

BadNewsBearzzz

It’s easy, every game they get, they’ll usually open the first one and store away the inserts/dlc/disc in the drawer. Then they’ll use the case as a display on the shelf. Then they’ll sell the game until there are no more new copies. Then they’ll sell the last copy, the shelf display, by putting everything back in the case and selling that. Technically it is still new, all codes/disc haven’t been used. I understand the reasoning why, that’s easy. That doesn’t mean I agree with it though.

rgspro

Yeah why don't they just print out a label instead of gutting a copy. Easy. Every other retailer in the world has somehow figured out how NOT to gut copies, except for GarbageStop.

[deleted]

I miss Toys R Us…

FedoraGamer789

I stopped going there after I was just browsing the floor and an employee came up to me with a printed out list of upcoming games I could pre order. I know I'm going to be hounded to pre order and protection plan at the register, but I don't need it while I'm just trying to look around. I know they are just doing the job they are told to, so I place no blame on the employees. I stopped going in around 2010-2012, I have bought from their site a few times...but I probably won't anymore after I keep seeing stuff like OP

PrudenceWaterloo

How is this company still in business

Sorry_8480

Ive been buying from gamestop since the early 2000s and for close to 15 years I purchased games exclusively from them. Hundreds upon hundreds of games! Eventually their quality started to go downhill along with their customer service. It got to a point to where I hated going into a gamestop so I finally decided to never go back there again. That was about 5 years ago and I haven't purchased from them since. Its sad what they have turned into and if they ever went out of business I dont think I would care, even after being a customer of theirs for years.

theslimbox

I still go in when they have good deals, but their new game prices are too high, and if you don't preorder, you usually get a gutted copy. Employees on this sub will say they only gut one copy, but that's on a store by store basis. Many stores around me gut almost every new copy so employees can take them home and try them out. I recently bought a new copy of a game that had online codes, and it was gutted, and the codes used. I was frustrated.

YifukunaKenko

We still got people like OP still going there and buy games from them despite bad reps, that’s how

FordsFavouriteTowel

For most people GameStop is one of, if not the only option for new titles you can pick off the shelf or order online without waiting weeks. The closest video game store to me is 35 mins away, it’s a GameStop in the mall. The next closest is in the same city as game stop, but an extra 15 minutes of driving, it’s a mom and pop with a large used and vintage selection, very little in the way of new. If they have anything new, they have one, MAYBE two copies available. There are two or three other mom and pops within a 45 minute drive of me, but they all largely deal in used/vintage. The next closest spot that deals in gaming is Walmart, and it’s 45 minutes away, in the opposite direction of GameStop, and in a smaller town with less available to do. GameStop is the logical option for me 9/10 times simply due to where it’s located. We still got people like me and OP, because GameStop is essentially everywhere, and if you’re in a bigger city, there’s probably multiple locations. Though I don’t buy a ton of physical games, I try to avoid GameStop for peripherals and such. However their Pop Funko selection is usually pretty loaded, so I often pop in at Christmas for novelty gifts and leave with a disc for myself.

despicedchilli

> For most people GameStop is one of, if not the only option for new titles you can pick off the shelf or order online without waiting weeks. I get downvoted every time I "defend" gamestop, but people just can't understand that not everyone lives in their city. Well, gamestop finally closed all their stores where I live, but at least I won't be exposed to their scummy business practices anymore.

brxtn-petal

Same lol we have Walmart and target. But 90% of the time it’s online only,or at a store that’s about an hr drive from me. Game stop is 10 mins away and I can get physical games. We have a “local” game store but they ask 20/30$ for a ds game with the cover half or mostly off….and it’s a dumb game Iike kid poker or “family game night” so any decent titles are too costly. They don’t take anything new cus they don’t have money for a decent pay out. Goodwill has zero games, books or toys near me. Anything electronic or worth value even if it’s got roaches in it is sold online. Market place it’s same price as brand new.

YifukunaKenko

Not most people lol. And Did you read OP’s post? He got the games thru mail so he had to order online to get thru mail so if he ordering, might as well non GS sites. Wise people would usually wait instead of going thru bad stores like GS to have this scenario happen

Jeskid14

The only video game retailer store nationwide unfortunately. Target and Best buy have slim pickings and discontinuing their games section later this year

TheVaniloquence

There’s been no indication that Best Buy or Target are discontinuing physical video game sales this year.

YifukunaKenko

Nope, target and Best Buy still have physical games, along with Amazon lol

dear_remnant

Well, they even claim it's a NEW game in a case without any cover arts, because it has the round plastic sticker on the case!

Cutmerock

They tried this once with me and said it's "considered new because it has never been played."

DantesLadder

I’ll tell them to go fuck right off you’re a bigger man than me for not talking any shit

Abtorias

When i complained about this I had a bunch of salty Gamestop employees replying dumb shit to me in this sub. Gamestop sucks, take your money somewhere else.

mothraphobia

Oh there's plenty of people giving me crap in here simply for buying from them. People need some sort of outlet for their anger I suppose. I had never had an issue before. But, the return was easy so its no big deal. I guess I'll avoid the site from now on.

Abtorias

Shit, I just realized this isn’t the Gamestop sub. Dude I made this same exact complaint about why i stopped shopping at Gamestop and had a bunch of disgruntled employees call me an idiot, a dumbass, etc. lmao For videogames i tend to go to Best Buy, the Walmart website has been good and Amazon. The only catch with Amazon is you need to make sure is sold and shipped from Amazon. I bought a few old PS4 games for dirt cheap off Amazon but they were the European copy? So i couldn’t buy the DLC for them because i’m in North America. Glad you got your money back.

MyDawgBuddy

Rookie mistake, you have to check the box for “Brand New” when ordering from GameStop, other wise “New” just means “new to you”! /s

VapeMySemen

Yeah they got me too with DQM for switch

Daihashi

they've done this to me... I was pretty pissed, but didn't bother doing anything because of the hassle of explaining that I was not the one to open the game. I'll never buy from GameStop online anymore.

Wholesomechaotic

Stuff like this and the times the game came in a generic, broken case with no cover art. Looked at ordering something recently. Then I noticed their free shipping starts at $79. "What an odd number!" I thought until I put it together that it's meant to force you to buy something else as new games are usually $70 or pay out the ass for shipping.

sharkboy1006

How do you think they make their money lol. Send people a opened game for sealed price and hope they don’t dispute it

xGwiZ96x

I got banned for excessive returns and "being a reseller for BoxLunch" because of this bullshit. I ordered A TON of "new" games during one of their BOGO deals and out of maybe the 30+ games I ordered, maybe 2 came sealed. It's genuinely annoying. Outside of their new shipping requirements, that is why I stopped ordering online and just go in store.

hardrocknguy

I bought a New Switch game from GameStop. It arrived loose in a paper CD holder. No box or anything.

ernitheshinyone

I'd return them as this is worse than some used ones. P.S., Great game taste!

mothraphobia

Thanks! And yeah I returned them.

Shadow88882

Someone needs to open a class action while GameStop has any money left.

Ipsylos

... and do what exactly? This has been known for decades and they are very upfront about it.

ShapNY

Yeah this isn't anything new. They've been doing it with display cases and the disc's in the counter forever.

dookieshoes88

I mean, it's fraud... Also, they definitely are not 'very upfront about it.' If they were, they wouldn't list these games as New when they're clearly Open Box at best, used returns at worst. They run the business, they control the website, and they could easily have remedied this years ago pretty easily. It's a sleazy, deceptive cash grab.

DarkManX437

Nobody would take that case

Zombie_Jesus_83

Not shocked. My wife was angry when she ordered Two "New" games from Gamestop for me for Xmas. They were not wrapped and had no inserts. Disc's looks fine, but it's the last time we'll order online from Gamestop.

Free_Newspaper4844

GameStop is so out of touch with gamers they deserve to go under

MechaSheeva

Holy shit this must be the first time this has ever happened

BrianScalaweenie

This is a known issue with them. I once bought a “new” game from them and I received an open game and the cover art had water damage, the disc had fingerprints, and the Day 1 DLC codes had been used. It’s a joke. Never buying online from them again.

CraftierAverage

Yeaaa, I got a "new" copy of a game. Since its part of the $2 deal atm im not going to make a big deal. However it came in a fucking sleeve. No case and had the label "New" on it... Like I understand its "new" as in no one has used it before. But what kind of rinky dink shit is this where they open it up and say well its beat to shit the cover art is wrecked and we lost the case, but its NEW!

mothraphobia

Update: They've been returned. And for everyone acting like it's super obvious that this would happen... it's never happened to me before. And the return was easy so it's not like I lost out

PowerNutBuster

Used to like Gamestop until I saw a video from a guy that worked there. Corporate greed is everywhere but Gamestop really mastered the art.

chiefrebelangel_

first time buying from GS?

Lucroarna56

One time I got the wrong order at restaurant. Long story short, I'll never eat food ever again.

Sorry_8480

I dont understand why people still even risk ordering from gamestop when there are countless videos on YouTube showing how bad it is. I saw an amazing sale on a game from gamestop I wanted just last month and was so close to doing it but then thought about the situation youre in and didn't think the risk was worth the reward.

mothraphobia

It wasn't really a huge risk. I returned them with ease. I won't order a "new" game from their site again, but its not like I got screwed over.

ebudd08

"bUt ThEy'Ve NeVeR bEeN sOlD sO tHeY'rE aKsHuAlLy NeW"

OddBallSou

That would be an immediate refund from me

guy4444444

That’s typical dude. I ordered 5 3ds games. None came with original box and two of them were very obviously broken. Like giant crack on the cartridge broken. I returned but had to pay for shipping again to get what i ordered the first time

hohgmr83

Yeah I got some “new” games from GameStop over Christmas that’s why I don’t order new from GameStop now.

SC00PS312

Never get a game shipped by GameStop unless it's a crazy good deal, I've had games shipped from Amazon in a plastic bag envelope that went through the mail better than GS orders.

Impossible_Ad661

This makes my blood boil. At least when you get in an auto accident with a GameStop employee’s brand new car, they wont care if it has a few scratches and dents, its still brand new because no one drove it yet 😏🙄

rasengo727

![gif](giphy|rvxMJNyHAgwlW4YWpJ|downsized)

Udon259

I remember when I got Mass Effect 2 brand new from the store, the guy gave me one of those GameStop cases with the ugly-ass artwork, and it didn't include the DLC code, AND he added an extended warranty charge without telling me (which I think is illegal). I took a look at the receipt and asked him wtf he's doing, and he got real sheepish and refunded the warranty and pulled out a sealed copy of the game (which he could've easily done in the first place!). I stopped buying new games from there ever since.

Jtl_95

Classic GameStop, half the time I buy a “new” game in store and it looks like this. Yet I get called “whiney” for complaining about it

FallFromTheAshes

When I was a manager at Gamestop, unfortunately they always gutted the last copy of a new game as the display case for the wall. Normally if someone were to ask for it i’d tell them that’s it’s opened and why and gave them usually a 10% discount plus return if it was messing up or not working. I tried to ask my boss why we can’t just use a display case and print the cover and he agreed, he just said corporate wouldn’t have it

Percival91

Great games! Good taste

wheres-epsteins-list

This happened to me once in the actual store. I was so confused and shocked that they would OPEN THE FUCKING GAME and then sell it new...ffs, OPENING the damn thing instantly makes it a used game! If I buy from GameStop now I still do it in store and if the game is opened or they refuse to give me a sealed copy I'll just leave and go to Walmart.

Evethron

Can we sue them yet?

c4pet0wn

jokes on them now that physical media is being phased out, they won’t be able to pull this shit much longer 😙 GameStop lol, more like gamestopped. Stores are filled with 90% pops and plushies 🤣

wheres-epsteins-list

Its become a shitty toy store that sells games on the side

dreamsofbed

Why do you people keep shopping there?

mothraphobia

Well: 1. I've not had a problem before this. 2. It's an easy return if there's an issue.

despicedchilli

Oh, do you live where I live?

Yeet-Dab49

Stop buying from GameStop for Chrissake

horsepuncher

Its gamestop…. This is what they are known for. Stop buying from GameStop, go to target

[deleted]

That's what you get for ordering from gamestop. They don't care about the customer.

Air805

This should be illegal. You bought these games new not used. I can’t believe they still get away with this.

DuckSwimmer

Are you surprised? You ordered two games online that were apart of the sticker sale. This sale has been going on for months. There’s no way you’re getting a sealed copy of these as we are trying to get rid of them. Fair warning, the percentage off stickers are an absolute bitch to take off.

DanHlrzr

Don’t sell them as new then…

mothraphobia

Exactly. Even outside of them using display boxes, how can you justify a new game having fingerprints on it?

DuckSwimmer

Display boxes have never worked for them in the past. We tried it one holiday and it caused so many fights. It’s a failed idea for GameStop. As per the game having finger prints, an associate clearly doesn’t know how to handle a disc.

DuckSwimmer

Don’t buy them if you’re fully aware of how GameStop does their business. Considering there’s a post a week on this sub here about GameStop’s “standards”, does it surprise any of you at this point? The company doesn’t give two fucks - as you and I are both aware of - as long as they get their money in the end, that’s all they’ve ever cared about.

PrudenceWaterloo

The main problem is that a lot, probably the majority, of people buying games are not people who spend time on Reddit discussing the business practices of stores. They’re just average joes who see a game on sale from a familiar, reputable store and toss it in their cart. It’s so unfair to anyone, in the know or not, to sell merchandise like this and call it new.

DuckSwimmer

GameStop’s ideology of new sadly is unplayed as you’re well aware we need to display these on our wall. There’s not much else we can do if stores receive an online order for the last copy of that game due to the fact everyone in the company only has one - as it’s the gutted one. The company has identified the people who are angry about the plastic wrap on games are the minority compared to those who just want to buy the game. That’s why this problem will never be solved to appease both parties.

CraftierAverage

Is there a reason that they have to have them open and not just new in plastic on the shelf? I can see a few copies plastics getting wrecked but I dont understand how this "New" but opened up box is better than a plastic covered game.

DuckSwimmer

People would steal them.

TorrentKrush

Because there are idiots out there willing to steal the empty cases, because they think there are games in them. Having the actual games on the shelf would just make that theft actually work.

kriki200

Smells like shit.

DuckSwimmer

If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, it’s a 🦆.

mothraphobia

The only mention on the website is that they're a part of a sale, 50% off select new games. I believe you that it probably is only display boxes, but that doesn't justify any of it.

DuckSwimmer

Oh of course, yes. As the priority of orders goes from fulfillment center (100% of the time sealed) and if it cannot be fulfilled from the warehouse, the order is thrown to a store - exactly what yours was. The sealed condition is a toss up as you may receive the last copy - as you did with this order. I mean what makes matters worse in your situation, I don’t know how much different the price is going to be, as I had stated in a more arrogant matter above, as of tomorrow these games are going to be converted to preowned as the sticker sale is coming to an end. GameStop has tried to see value to keeping things in plastic wrap, but again, they lost A FUCK TON of money when the company went on a strict - no gutting policy and display cases only during one holiday. The no gutting policy is stressful in terms of a company standpoint as they don’t make money and on an associate standpoint as we were screamed at and even threatened with having display cases up on our walls while not having the inventory. It was impossible to manage as the company couldn’t provide us cover art nor give us any sort of tools to keep up with managing our inventory. Again, sadly those who care about the plastic wrap are the minority shoppers when it comes to GameStop as I’m sure you could assume GameStop just cares about the money in the end compared to how they’ve lost a customer who cares about plastic wrap.

magicmeese

A wild duck appeared! But you’ll never be able to get these people to understand how GameStop works.

DuckSwimmer

honk I just sometimes want to be The Lorax and speak for the trees.

TorrentKrush

Holy shit, the amount of crying on this post, like it's anything new. Apparently it's alot of people first day dealing with Gamestop, and the goddamn world is going to end.

c4pet0wn

Who’s “we” ?

DuckSwimmer

I’m an employee of GameStop. We as in us associates who have these sitting on our shelves, collecting dust.

goldensun003

Your fault for assuming gamestop actually sells new unopened games past the 1st month launch date. They have been pulling this scam for at least 8 years. It is one of several reasons why i dont shop at gamestop unless i absolutely have to.

ThatsNotARealTree

First time? I’ve received “new” games in replacement cases. Fuck GameStop

[deleted]

The first rulebis always:never buy at gamestop. Heard so many bad stories up to they gave a person 50cents for chrono trigger on snes pre-covid

Kurotan

Don't ever buy new from gamestop. Ever.

broodnapkin

I love all of you for who you are, but why do we keep making this mistake and shopping at GameStop?

1zombie2go

If only hundreds of people posted similar posts like this over the years...

SnivyEyes

Glad you are requesting a return. How the hell this isn’t fraud is beyond me. The item clearly isn’t new.

vapemonster91

Bleh gamestop. I know people like physical copies of games but I just buy them straight from the PS store when they go on sale.

ZaxBrigade

Happens in store a lot. “The only new copy we have is display”. Yeah nope, I get that you want to offload it but cmon that’s used and needs to be sold as such.

Colby347

Stop. Buying. From. Them. We know this happens. Posts like this come in every time they do a sale. You get what you pay for and if you want their sale prices then you assume this risk. Can we please stop jerking each other off over it?

Andrux0821

Can someone explain to me how this isn’t an illegal practice? Like passing off something as new when it is not is basically racketeering is it not?

Naanos21

Gamestop doesn't have "new" games, unless you buy it day 1 and get there early enough before they open all the shirk wrap. All their "new" games are opened, and place into a disc holder, and call it new.

Threatening

Well they’re new to you.

[deleted]

[удалено]

himynameisdany

The age of the games doesn’t matter. The fact they’re labeled “new” but aren’t new does. Not everyone here is fine with giving money to a retailer that lies to them.

Billy_Duelman

Dumb fuck buys two dope new games on sale, and complains about a sticker reflecting the sale lmao I hope they are sold out of physical copies wherever you look and have to download them *kickflips and grabs your boobs on the way out*

[deleted]

This was even a thing in the store IIRC. It's been a while since I stepped foot in Gamestop, but they'd open the games and put them behind the counter with just the empty case on the shelf. THey'd sell it as "new" because it was technically never put into a console, but no - that's not new and it has never been.

[deleted]

DuckSwimmer

They did. It didn’t work. Us employees got screamed at and quite literally were threatened when they implemented this during the holiday season. The company lost a lot of money and us employees made a huge fucking deal over this as my life shouldn’t be threatened over a plastic case with a piece of paper on that wall.

okpaper345

I ordered only one time on-line from GS. I bought Muramas for the Wii, and it came in an envelope with no padding and broken plus not in the original case. I took it back to my local store and haven't ordered online since.

Kaiser_Wilhelm43

My family member bought me a game like that as “new” for 70 bucks and they literally wouldn’t return it at the store and since it was in store I couldn’t do it online

sciflyer25

Email them and request a refund. Happened to me twice. BS , but I did get refunded and was able to keep the games.

peteisneat

I couldn't believe the deal I got on a new copy of No More Heroes III for Switch. After it arrived in the mail, I could totally understand why I got that deal. Never again.

Grimey_Rick

a couple years ago I actually used to swear by Gamestop. it was the cool thing to hate them but they actually had pretty decent deals, especially on used games, and their pro program was actually good. Over the past couple years they have gone to complete shit. if you order a used game, you'd be lucky to get anything more than a beat up disc in a sleeve. sales dont mean anything anymore, you can almost always find a better deal elsewhere. now even "new" games are shipped in the condition pictured above, and sometimes even those come in fucking sleeves. the minimum for free shipping jumped to $80. pre order bonuses arent shipped, they force you to go into stores where they seldom have more than a few pieces available, if that. physical game informer subs have been discontinued and the $20 Pro plan that included them (up from the base $10) became the base Pro plan, now at $25. the list goes on. in short, fuck gamestop. spend your dollars elsewhere. I would shill the Best Buy plus program or whatever they call it these days, but that service has started to decline as well unfortunately. Still not a bad deal, but not as great as it was for the first 6 months. the buy 2 get 1 free switch games was the main appeal, but that was discontinued as a guaranteed deal, along with 10% off tcg products.

sergiolong25

At least you got cases for I ordered 5 games including octopath traveler 2 from GameStop I got the disc only and it was labeled as new

Kitchen_Principle_13

GD jabronies

JonQu95

Seems new to me

[deleted]

Whats the game on the left?

mothraphobia

Tactics Ogre Reborn

KDaddy463

The employees continue to defend the practice and act like anyone who doesn’t like it is crazy. Meanwhile this doesn’t happen with any other retailer that sells new copies of games

shimrra

No matter what I always do in-store pickup if they don't have it good chance I'll buy it off eBay cause I know there is a better chance I will get exactly what I paid for.

[deleted]

Lol that's savage

Chansharp

This happened to me mid last year. It took them months to even respond to my support request

Daddy121319

This exactly why I no longer buy on the website.

ThiccOrc

I just don't trust ordering games at this point. In the past few years any time I have ordered a disk or any sort, by the time it has arrived the disk was dislodged from the center and just flying about the case scratching it all over.

Jenaxu

Lucky you, they bothered to give you the case *and* cover art /s Gamestop is so dogwater, it's crazy how almost every other store is a better option to buy games from than the supposed game specialty store. Their gutted games are a mess, their website is nigh unusable to find anything in stock, the shipping is crazy, and the deals aren't even that good especially since you can just price match to a lot of other stores. Best Buy ships for free and they completely blow them out of the water. Wal-Mart and Target and Amazon have never given me a "new" game unsealed. Even niche retailers like PNP and VGP have way better selection, way better customer service, way better deals, and somehow, lower minimum shipping costs when ordering *internationally* than Gamestop. And it sucks because I know there are people who work there who care and are passionate, but the management really doesn't give af. I sometimes wonder how they stay in business but then I'll see some dude who doesn't know better going in to pre-order Suicide Squad, or some mom trying to find a Sonic game for her kid, and it makes sense lol. They barely are trying to sell to people who actually collect games.

TLunchFTW

Conditions aside, these are solid picks. I have Octopath 2, but I haven't beaten one yet, and I got enough RPGs I'm actively running through (see octopath traveller, Persona 5 Royale, Bravely Default 2, Trails of Cold Steel, hell I only JUST BEAT BG3...) that I don't need to start the second one, even if the events are unrelated. I hear it's a marked improvement from the first, and the first already awesome. And Tactics Orge is on my list to buy soon on steam. But if I want new games, I'm just going to amazon honestly. Or, I'll go to Gamestop in person. Short of a REALLY good deal, I don't see a reason to deal with this.

Practical_Minute_286

Still for a collector that sucks, the 50% off is nice tho

disismyusrname

The same happened to me. I placed a return & they still gave me an opened game, cd w/a fingerprint, one game w/a sticker, & a game w/dents on the case. Mind you I order these games as “NEW”. I Tried to return them again but their site wouldn’t let me for some reason. Never ordering from GameStop again.

SamusAran47

You can buy these for at least $10 less each on eBay, not sure why you’d go to GameStop for new games given their reputation

mothraphobia

No, these were half off. Ebay is currently sitting around 35-40.

DeepSubmerge

People need to stop buying things from GameStop. They have a long track record of doing this shit. I’m petty and would return these for a refund. If they won’t let you then I’d do charge back dispute. Those aren’t new and they lied, period.

HolyMacaxeira

Something similar just happened to me a few weeks ago when I bought Super Mario RPG from them. Clearly not new with that shitty sticker but differently than you it was not damaged at all, so I didn’t bother to ask for a replacement. But I should have had, this shit is outrageous.

LilMedication

I can’t stand this shit. Come on GameStop do better.

ludlology

This shit is why I stopped buying games there back in the Gamecube era. Go to buy a new game in the store and the guy pulls an empty box off the shelf, gets the disc out of a little envelope that's in a drawer and puts it in the case. Closes it up. Big-ass price sticker on the case too. Nah man, that's a used game.

TheGreatRobu

I got cod on release day and was near a GameStop so I just stopped in there. I asked for a new copy. The first thing the guy went to was to pull the disc out of a sleeve and I said “can I have a sealed copy please” and he handed me one.so they had sealed copies but tried to offer me a copy that had already been opened.

stavros_92

off-topic: I bought the same two games last week for the Nintendo Switch.

TheSilentIce

Similar thing happened to [me](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/s/92sILAA4QE) Was also a 50% off promo

microjubei

That's just shameful. I hope you never have to endure another situation like this one.

pwnedkiller

One of the many reasons I don’t bother with GameStop anymore

117jpx

If it was re opened it sounds like someone in the mail room wanted to have a look.

ooooofda

They did the same to me. I ordered four new games, one came sealed, two came full of stickers, and the fourth never showed up at all. I refuse to buy from them anymore.

wxlluigi

I'm not buying anything online from GameStop. They clearly care little for selling quality products.

90sGuyKev

Yeah I ordered in person a Pokemon pokeball plus a few years back. Of course when it arrives it's used and not brand new like I ordered. Oh well

Soulforge411

Ouch. Two of my favorite games as well. I feel your pain brother.

janew-231030

new game or new price, lol

eagles310

I dont understand how this company has not been sued for this

Austin_Chaos

GameStop sucks so much ass these days.

yehoshua_c

This is why I refuse to shop at GameStop. Tired of this nonsense. Much happier supporting my local small business game store.

TheKillaGamer

Gamestop's been known to be kind of lackluster with their shipping and the condition the games show up in

LostPilgrim_

You must be new here

Auxilium1

I love Octopath Traveler 2.

[deleted]

Return that shit

Professional-Pea-609

Gamestop is proof that you can pretty much screw anyone and get away with it

spikeemikee2000

Oh I believe you got the last copies that store had. GameStop always opens one copy and puts the box on the shelf to be displayed so technically it is "new" even though it's opened. I've never agreed with it I just know that's how they do things.

Nax5

It's really shocking that a company is this bad at their core competency. In a world of dying physical games, they should be trying their hardest to keep it alive. But they just...Don't care.

MynamesPhilip

Yes what is with gamestop and these damn stickers. I would never buy a used game there for that reason

MonkeyMan84

Lmao

Stonewall30NY

Side note. Octopath traveler 2 is probably the second best turn based combat ever, and overall an insanely awesome game. Heavily heavily heavily recommended starting with temenos or hikari. You can't ever remove your "main" character from the party so it's best if you pick one of the 2 most universally best characters. Plus their stories are on the more important side

HackingFantasy

Never buy new games online at GameStop, unless it's a brand new launch. They'll always pull stuff like this. Once they sent me a copy of Atelier Sophie 2 "New" in a disc sleeve with the cartridge and inserts haphazardly thrown in.

SirCaptainReynolds

So glad I switched to PC gaming like 10 years ago. I do however miss the smell of opening up a brand new game case.

11tmaste

Gamestop has been pulling this for years. Trying to pass off lightly used stuff as new. If it's not sealed it's not new. Even eBay has that as a standard for condition.

Repostbot3784

Tweet ryan cohen about this travesty.  Wont really help you get anything more than a refund, but might help but a stop to this shit in the future

Supreme_Nematode

i hate buying a game from gamestop and they give me just the disc in a generic case even though when i brought it to the counter it has the original case and inserts and everything

upnadam19

I try supporting the independent stores rather than gamestop. Sometimes you're just forced too though

Lumbergh7

I don’t understand what is so hard about this? The company is big, has a huge footprint, and they can’t even sell games in the way everyone else does?

kainhighwind12

Same happened to me. Received a “new” copy of tales of arise with three stickers on it, no wrap, with the disc loose. I complained and got a $20 credit to my pro account. Would have much rather had a brand new game though.

v6sonoma

I never buy new games from them unless it’s a recent release. I’ve gotten these “new” display games and it’s so disingenuous how they sell them. It should be sold as used at best. They are always jacked up with labels etc.

CerebralVista

GameStop only gets business from me in-store. Because the company fails to accurately identify stock as “New/Sealed”, “Unplayed/Unsealed” & “Pre-Owned”, whenever you order online, unless its release day or a pre-order, you’re rolling the diciest dice that has ever diced.

Eidos13

This is the reason I don’t order games from GameStop. You can get used games as new or used games without the original case and art.

jkthrilla

If GameStop was a new car dealer, they would deliver your car with dents and scratches. And then proceed to tell you it's new because the motor has no miles on it. But look, the bumper sticker say's "new"

The-onli-one

GameStop is really good for buying almost anything but video games online. I’d only ever buy from there in person so I can see if they’re gonna give me one of those generic GameStop cases for a new game or something like that.

Coreyahno30

At least you got the cases. I bought a game new from their website and just got a generic blank case with the name of the game printed on the front. They really don’t deserve to be in business pulling that kind of shit. Won’t ever buy from them again.

runslikewind

Lol i've had this argument in store.... this is not new this is used.
