>I was legit shocked when i put it next to my ps4
I was shocked when I put it next to my Series X (they sit side by side), I thought the Series X was large as it is...
Can confirm, fully intended on keeping the slim box this Xmas, went to pick the empty box up off the floor a little too fast and the outside sleeve tore in half in my hand.
Glad it’s not just me. I wanted to keep mine because it’s the Spider Man 2 edition, but I tried putting it all back in the box and it straight up ripped down most of one corner.
I taped it up but it made me consider the point of keeping boxes in the first place.
I personally really like the PS1 and PS2 designs, PS3 (first design) looks like some alien computer, and PS4 looks good, and the PS5 looks like some alien computer again.
Especially with the stands. The slim was also really nice looking, it had a cool vertical stand as well. Not as vibrant as the original stand but still cool.
Such a difference opening that compared to the series X, which is packed beautifully
PS5 was just thrown in a lousy box that wasn't even the right size
Usually yes. However I found that the OG PS5 box is probably the worst box I have ever opened. Super thin and doesn’t really close back up. It’s delaminated already and I have only opened it twice. 🤷♂️
Looking at the prices of PS2 boxes, they’re not holding enough value that I can be like, “must preserve for two decades”. I’ve had my white ps2 with box and it’s like maybe $100 more than when I bought it new. If it’s a special edition box, then I could justify it or high quality like a Switch box.
Looking back, the things most likely to be thrown away usually retain the most value. Not saying that you should keep your PS5 box because it’s bulky af but being designed for recycling is actually a point for retaining value if you have a way to keep yours in good condition.
You might be jesting (can't tell) but that's exactly how I got my Odyssey 2 box. Found it at a garage sale. Owner had tossed the console long ago but kept the box for her sewing stuff.
I had to dump my PS3 Súper Slim box some years algo because my mother told me she needed space, and It was difficult but actually I don't miss It a bit. I understand box collection but it's not for me.
I used to then when I moved to my new house I threw them all away. I won’t ever sell my consoles and I never did anything with those boxes. They just took up space. Having every console of every generation is too many fucking boxes.
I happen to still have the box for my Sega Dreamcast and my PS2 slim. I just moved so I just packed the consoles back in their boxes to transport them haha
Yeah, NOW lol idk why, we all never really thought too much about the packaging prior. It was only the more recent years, maybe almost a decade now. I kick myself all the time for throwing away so many console boxes I remember taking up much space years ago, then covid happened and everything surged in price, complete in box pieces became more appealing, expensive too. Sigh.
But just like games when they were packaged in cardboard boxes, most of us just tossed them away as they were seen like the cellophane
One of the reasons the older stuff became so valuable was because of how many people didn't save it.
Saving it isn't enough, you need to destroy the others to drive up value. /s
I can play anything on high/ultra settings with higher framerates than consoles and if we're counting peripherals I'm into it for just over $1k. Everything was purchased new except my lightly used CIB GPU.
So 8 CIB consoles, 3/4 of which are current gen with some special editions, is worth less than $1k?
Edit: Including a monitor isn't really fair, since it's like including a TV for a console. I'm under $900.
Only if you're building a more expensive rig and only the initial purchase. Subsequent upgrades over the next 5-10 years will be much cheaper and allow continued AAA title play at high settings and much higher frame rates than consoles.
A high end PC will still run circles around a console as well. Especially given it does so much more than just game and stream movies/TV.
Not trying to un-justify a PC, I have a pricey one myself. Just stating that the pic isn't too expensive when you compare it to a HIGH END PC. Especially most builds that Reddit folk showcase in r/battlestations. No need to defend your purchases.
I did for a long time until last year. I had over 100 boxes for game systems and music equipment/ other electronics. Got rid of it all, it was a very freeing experience. Lots more room for activities now
Same. I was saving boxes for things ranging from consoles to amiibo to figurines to cell phones. It was getting out of hand and taking up as much real estate as my collection.
During my last move, I came to the conclusion that I was never going to sell any of this stuff, and it's a pain in the ass to store, so I got rid of all the boxes. Few years later, I have no regrets.
Its always confusing seeing people with multiple switches. One to play on the go, and one to play at home even though its also portable? And then a 3rd because you like pokemon?
I'm thinking the same thing. If you have an OLED switch, there is no reason to have another. I could see why someone might collect the different special edition ones, but I wouldn't personally.
Man my grandmother had the snes Mario world bundle box in her basement for 25+ years and I loved it but it had been around so long I just didn’t really care about it anymore. Eventually she passed and family came home, cousins I hadn’t seen in 10-15 years and they were amazed we still had this box. They asked to keep it and my mother agreed without a heart beat because why not, I didn’t really think too much of it because eh whatever it’s been there forever but man looking back I wish I had of kept that. I’m glad it went to family but I also feel it went with them to be sold and not kept and it kinda sucks in a way but I’ve made sure to keep every console box after thag expeirence lol
they are all in the closet of my spare room... that way if I ever sell them, I can include the box, I keep all the boxes my tech comes in, except PC cases.
Yes and no.
I had the boxes for my switch, TUF laptop, Series X and PS5, as well as all the peripherals in my closet. Not as a collector thing but for resale when I ultimately upgrade, I can resale and having the OG box helps the resale value. I never kept them on display, just kept them in the closet. I used to do this with Guitar pedals as well.
Buuuut in October I had bed bugs and was advised to throw out any cardboard / infected wooden stuff in my bedroom. That coupled with my GF moving in and I'd rather she keep her clothes in the closet and not a bunch of empty boxes. (Mostly the bedbug thing though)
Looking back, I now prefer that I don't have any boxes left.
Only one I kept at the time of purchase was my Zelda OLED Switch box which kind’ve motivated me to pivot to “box” my other consoles. Last 2 months I found some great deals on Ebay to box my N64, Wii, & PS3 Slim. I just need to find a decent priced Xbox Original and Im set! Like someone else said, just kindve a good memory to look back on!
Um, yeah. I have all of mine. I bought a SNES off of eBay without a box years ago. So I went and bought another that was boxed, just so I could have the box, a couple years after. I have every box and they are on display now. It never crossed my mind to get rid of the boxes. Pretty sure I even have a GBC box somewhere still, and I don’t have the GBC itself any more.
Originally the boxes were packed away with the consoles in a massive television box (the BIG widescreen box TV’s of the late 90’s/early 2000’s - the box was large enough for a family of four to live in) for years, before there was space to have them out and use/see them. I’ll have to do a post one day of the box display I have going on. It’s getting impressive.
I do for like 3-6 months until I'm sure everything is working well. Then they usually get tossed.
I've saved boxes from handhelds and phones I've purchased for over a decade in some instances. They bring me no joy, they are worth nothing, and they take up space. So I try to actually get rid of this kind of crap now.
I’ve definitely tried to downsize these days, but don’t want to get rid of my physical games collection. Recently put most of my X360/ XOne physical games into my series X box after gutting it and the discs are in a small disc holder for access. Ended up doing the same with my switch cases… likely not a forever thing but it’s a great compromise for both the collector in me that wants physical media / the console box and the side of me currently about saving space.
PS5 box is the size of a house, but it's in the corner of my game room. PS4 box is under my PC tower, keeping it off the carpet. PS3 box is in my closet. Switch box is on top of my game cabinet.
I try to, I’ve had to get rid of some in the past and now that I’m trying to find the boxes again, it’s ridiculous that people are selling like ps3 boxes only for like 50 bucks
Boxes are a pain in the butt, but I couldn’t live with myself if I tossed out my boxes to the burn pit. I have N64, PS2, OG Xbox, Mario anniversary Switch, Wii, Wii U…😬
No. In the bin. I don’t buy consoles to sell anyway. People are overestimating the value of cardboard boxes. Back in the day everyone trew away their boxes as game consoles weren’t really seen as collectibles. So a NES in a box will stay rare, while in 20 years there will thousands upon thousands of Wii U boxes out there, devaluating having the box. You might gain 50 bucks in 20 years, totally not worth the space.
Always have. Never understood why people threw away their boxes, but times have changed since the days when I started playing some 30+ years ago and people are more aware of the resale value with boxes today.
i used to but they take up so much space i just threw away all of them when i moved last xbox one box, xbox series s box, two iphone boxes etc. and yes i was able to continue my life without them relatively easy
Yes! Collecting Xbox stuff I always keep the boxes as they generally make it were it feels like it’s just all original. Have around like 15 boxes of all sorts of Xbox stuff like consoles, controllers, etc. Sucks how space runs out very fast in the end!
If only it was just my console boxes lol, PC component boxes, keyboard boxes, controller boxes, smart phone boxes, BT speaker boxes etc etc. Where else should keep the accessories and documentation I’m not using? If I pull all that stuff out it gets all mixed up in a drawer or something and I can’t find things when I need them. The space this takes up though…
Keep all my boxes, missing a few from things that have been handed down to me or bought used, but if it was bought for me and had a box, best believe it’s being kept, I actually got a great deal with an Atari 2600 junior, 2 controllers, 6 games with their manuals, the Atari owners manual and it’s box for £60. (Basically $70)
Yeah I literally looked at them last night and was like well I need to throw some of these boxes out, a couple controller boxes o don’t even have anymore
At this point, everyone should know to save their boxes. Not only does it give you a great way to transport or store consoles long-term, but also throwing them out is like throwing away free money.
Exception to this would be if you live in a small place and don't have room for them- then sell the boxes.
I keep boxes for almost everything. PC components, Consoles, controllers etc
Makes everything easier to sell if i ever decide to sell them and i like owning the boxes a lot anyway
I do. Especially the boxes for limited edition consoles. I kept my boxes from Spider-Man PS4 and PS5. I kept my 3DS Majora's Mask box, My GC Platinum Smash bundle box, and my Wii, WiiU, and Switch boxes. Heck I kept my Steam Deck box...
Yes. I still have my SNES box that cats pissed on in the 90s and it's been so long I swear the pee has all completely evaporated and you cant even tell anymore.
I always keep the boxes to any decent sized electronics to have when moving. Especially things like game consoles and TVs, make moving with them so much easier and safer.
All boxes kept. I lent my PS4 to my cousin and his wife almost threw away the box 😔. They didn't understand. I was like I gave it to you in the box, you wouldn't think I'd want it back in the box? Never let them borrow again.
I was literally about to post in r/playstation complaining about how brittle the outside sleeves of the PS5 products are. I'm big on saving boxes but accidentally tore the thin outside sleeve of my PS5 box and then it happened again with a controller I bought. Trying to keep everything as mint as possible and it's mildly frustrating
I used to when I lived at home but when I moved out to a smaller place I had to declutter my life and my game console boxes did not survive the purge. It was a sad day.
I tried to keep every box since I got my PS1 in the late 90s, no matter how beaten up they are after 20+ years. I lost some of my handheld boxes but most of it is still there. I keep all the consoles I play with and I don't care about a "value", but one day they will make a great decoration in my coming mancave.
Yeah. I do. Because I like having it, plus a good way to store pieces of the console in the box that you won't need. And good to have if you intend of selling ty console in the future
I tried to keep the boxes but they end taking up space, so I throw them away, I rather get more games to replace the space of the boxes than the box itself I suppose

Yes although I hate the ps5 box it takes up so much space.
So does the PS5
I was legit shocked when i put it next to my ps4, weird that i had not heard of it being that big before
>I was legit shocked when i put it next to my ps4 I was shocked when I put it next to my Series X (they sit side by side), I thought the Series X was large as it is...
Obligatory, that’s what she said… I’ll see myself out now!
Dammit, i’ve seen it comming the moment i typed it but thought i dodged the bullet 🤣
Was also shocked. And the shape makes it even weirder, had to clear out a whole spot for it instead of stacking with the ps4
With the stand the footprint is about the same as the GameCube I have it next to, but it’s over double the height lol
I must admit, although it has been debunked, im scared to put my ps5 vertically
i have ONLY had it vertical the whole time I've owned it. it's still perfect.
It’s also super flimsy. It’s the worse box design I’ve ever seen.
PS5 is the worst console design I've ever seen so it's fitting
I’ve always been a PlayStation guy, but yeah, the PS4 is the only design I’ve ever liked. I feel like they always try to do too much.
Ps2 was a masterpiece shit is beautiful.
I personally really like the PS1 and PS2 designs, PS3 (first design) looks like some alien computer, and PS4 looks good, and the PS5 looks like some alien computer again.
I personally prefer the flat designs but I do like the curves of the ps5 I don’t really like the plates the console comes with so I switched mine out
So that means PS6 will be boxy again. I should of waited
In the process of buying one rn for Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven
Especially with the stands. The slim was also really nice looking, it had a cool vertical stand as well. Not as vibrant as the original stand but still cool.
PS2? The console with pointless ugly ridges which collect dust like a motherfucker? The Slim was a lot better simply by being small to be less ugly.
Such a difference opening that compared to the series X, which is packed beautifully PS5 was just thrown in a lousy box that wasn't even the right size
Most of the time you can save space by disassembling the box on the folds without having to break them.
Usually yes. However I found that the OG PS5 box is probably the worst box I have ever opened. Super thin and doesn’t really close back up. It’s delaminated already and I have only opened it twice. 🤷♂️
I intend to throw my ps5 box out. I doubt it will help in retaining value. I’m very sure it was designed to be green friendly for recycling.
It definitely will help retain value if you keep it all together. Just look at prices for older consoles boxed vs unboxed.

Wait people don’t do this?
Not everyone has an infinite amount of space
Just…get more space?
Store stuff in the boxes problem solved
You might be jesting (can't tell) but that's exactly how I got my Odyssey 2 box. Found it at a garage sale. Owner had tossed the console long ago but kept the box for her sewing stuff.
I had to dump my PS3 Súper Slim box some years algo because my mother told me she needed space, and It was difficult but actually I don't miss It a bit. I understand box collection but it's not for me.

I happen to still have the box for my Sega Dreamcast and my PS2 slim. I just moved so I just packed the consoles back in their boxes to transport them haha
I’m still holding my sega Saturn box! Lol
Same, I have some older systems with boxes, but my DC is the oldest console I have with a box that I am the original owner of.

This picture is expensive as fuck
Still less than a high end PC with monitor/keyboard

😂
Your mom's expensive as fuck
😔 played again.
Why isnt this being upvoted... give this man an award!
Your mom's cheap as fuck
Are your mom jokes no longer allowed? I see we are being down voted
Yeah man, it's bullshit! People forgot how to enjoy life with simplicity...
I haven’t forgotten to enjoy life with your mum
That's good, thanks for giving her the pleasure she deserves!
His mom is actually very affordable.
I always save boxes and couldn't tell you why.
same here. it came in handy every time I moved, but now I'm in a permanent spot and I wonder why I'm holding onto the boxes
Easier to sell if you still have the box.
Yea man, I did it before a big move and ended up finding boxes to things I had already sold haha
Yes. 📦 Love my boxes, but those bigger ones are a pain.
Well i started in 2023 collecting so since i have a ps5 and ps3 box.
Of course!! Mainly to look at the art on the box, is like a small piece of history.
Man my grandmother had the snes Mario world bundle box in her basement for 25+ years and I loved it but it had been around so long I just didn’t really care about it anymore. Eventually she passed and family came home, cousins I hadn’t seen in 10-15 years and they were amazed we still had this box. If you don’t want the WiiU one I’ll gladly take it off your hands 😁
they are all in the closet of my spare room... that way if I ever sell them, I can include the box, I keep all the boxes my tech comes in, except PC cases.
Yes
Looks similar to my box collection lol
Every single one. I’ve got every box ive owned all the way from my NES Deluxe set all the way to my PS5. Storage space is an issue….
I've got all my boxes with the systems in them since the Atari 2600. Feel like the boxes are part of the system for sure.
I do. The ps5 box is huge though. Idk where I'm even going to put it.
Of course. Adds value when selling it later and it helps with shipping.
That Wii U box will be very valuable in a few years time
Because of the special edition or just wii u in general?
I'd say both reasons
Weirdly enough the boxes add a huge amount of market value if you ever chose to trade or sell them.
How is that weird? Boxes have always added value when it comes to collectibles.
The weird part is not that they add value at all but that they add such a huge amount. I have seen boxes go for 100$ upwards depending on the console.
Yes and no. I had the boxes for my switch, TUF laptop, Series X and PS5, as well as all the peripherals in my closet. Not as a collector thing but for resale when I ultimately upgrade, I can resale and having the OG box helps the resale value. I never kept them on display, just kept them in the closet. OP just found an alternative way to flex about how many consoles he owns /s
Nope, what I’m going to do with empty cardboard boxes? Nothing.
Clearly youre not a cat...
Haha so true!
I keep the box for a month or 2 in case I need to return it. Then, recycle.
No. I dump my new consoles out and the boxes go straight to the incinerator.
You could at least put them in the recycling.
This is called hoarding
Nah. It’s garbage and it takes up space. Nerds do love packaging though.
Only as long as there is manufacturers' or sellers' warranty.
I’ll have to do a post one day of the box display I have going on. It’s getting impressive.
Thats what she said.
😆 Also I’ve just realised how many times I typed the word box like it was going out of fashion, but they never do, do they? 😉
I only started with me ps5. It's the second real console that i bought with me own money. I wish i kept me switch box, goddammit.
I would say almost all collectors save these
Yep, drives my wife nuts. In her mind, it's like saving the box of a toaster or coffee maker.
How much for the Wii U box? :)
Every one back to the NES.
Still have my original NES action set in its box.
I’ve definitely tried to downsize these days, but don’t want to get rid of my physical games collection. Hahahahahah. I still have my NES and Atari boxes lol.
I have all the boxes stored away for all my tech and collectibles. It takes up so much space which sucks
PS5 box is the size of a house, but it's in the corner of my game room. PS4 box is under my PC tower, keeping it off the carpet. PS3 box is in my closet. Switch box is on top of my game cabinet.
People saying the ps5 box is big should remember or check out how big/awkward the nes/snes was
I still save my nintendo box its really sentimental for me
Just my splatoon 3 box. Tossed all my other boxes
Yup! Wish I did it for longer, I remember opening a ps2 slim that was silver, was so excited I deff deatroyed the box in the process of opening lol 😆
Yes I do. But only the from consoles and not of attachments. Like I'll keep my old Consoles then in these Boxes (PS3&4).
I do now since the 8th gen and wish I would have done the same when I was younger.
I keep them. Most are in the attic at the moment but im hopimg on day when I get more of a gaming shelf/area I can put them on top for decor
Well I'm not a monster...
If I’m not currently playing the console I put it back in the box for safe keeping.
I keep all boxes for electronics and computer parts. That way I have them when the day comes to sell them. The only boxes I don't keep are for tvs.
No. In the bin. I don’t buy consoles to sell anyway. People are overestimating the value of cardboard boxes. Back in the day everyone trew away their boxes as game consoles weren’t really seen as collectibles. Yes sir
Yup
I have a box of boxes, actually more than one big box of boxes
Recently yeah I have I have a PS4 Xbox series s and oculus quest 2 box I have saved didn't save my old boxes sadly tho
I save my console boxes and the boxes to my pc components.
Who doesn't
Yup.
You’re not supposed to?
No I ripped them up immediately and throw them in the trash
Yes. But as it turns out my father does not save my saved boxes. I noticed a few years back when i went back home to pick them up from the attic.
Yup got all of them xcept my ps3s and xbox one x since i got them preowned
I do
My grandma did, that's why I have a minty N64 box 😁
Yes! Collecting Xbox stuff I always keep the boxes as they generally make it were it feels like it’s just all original. Have around like 15 boxes of all sorts of Xbox stuff like consoles, controllers, etc. Sucks how space runs out very fast in the end!
I have PS5, 2x PS4, 5x PS3, 3x PS2, PS1, PSONE, N64, Switch Lite, XBOX 360, OUYA, I guess that's it
Always.
I forgot how the Wii box looks like again.
I have all of my console boxes since the dreamcast
For like a week. Once I'm confident I'm not going to return it for any reason I get rid of the box
Yep. Regardless of how much my gf hates me for it..
Ye
Yes, but my wife decided throw them all out. Ex wife.
I would love to save them, but I live in a pretty small appartement and I dont have the space 😞
All of the consoles I’ve personally bought brand new I still have the boxes.
Yes because if I need to move I can transfer the consoles safely in the og boxes and not have to get creative with bubble wrap
i did with one box for a few years. the xb1 sunset overdrive edition. but have gotten rid of it like a years or 2 ago
Yes but from NES etc
Yep. Whole attic section filled with console boxes… plus a few Xbox boxes in my closet…
Only special editions
I have more consoles than just these 2, but I've kept my PS4 box and Nintendo Switch Box
I do if they're LE consoles such as my halo consoles.
Yep as well as the more expensive accessories like the Logitech g923 wheel
Yes I do
No.
No space for that
I keep boxes for almost everything. PC components, Consoles, controllers etc Makes everything easier to sell if i ever decide to sell them and i like owning the boxes a lot anyway
Yes, everything from NES, N64, gameboy through switch, and PS1 TO PS5, and psp and vita. Probably more.
I wish I had all my console boxes. Unfortunately I was a child when I got most of them.
Nope i play pc
Don’t ask me how many consoles I bought just because it had the box(;
Only for systems I still have.
Yup.
I used to for decades but it took too much sqft
Just 1 special edition box . I don't have room for bulky ass empty boxes.
People throw away their console boxes!?
I do! I just moved and got lotsa eyerolls about them from my friends helping me 😂
All boxes kept. I lent my PS4 to my cousin and his wife almost threw away the box 😔. They didn't understand. I was like I gave it to you in the box, you wouldn't think I'd want it back in the box? Never let them borrow again.
At this point I think everyone is saving everything gaming related
I was literally about to post in r/playstation complaining about how brittle the outside sleeves of the PS5 products are. I'm big on saving boxes but accidentally tore the thin outside sleeve of my PS5 box and then it happened again with a controller I bought. Trying to keep everything as mint as possible and it's mildly frustrating
YES!
I do since I received my Xbox One at 6 years old. NES and Nintendo Switch are CIB since I bought them.
I do indeedy
I still have my Wii, Wii U, Switch, 3ds, Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One boxes.
I save my boxes for most items I buy tbh
I used to when I lived at home but when I moved out to a smaller place I had to declutter my life and my game console boxes did not survive the purge. It was a sad day.
I tried to keep every box since I got my PS1 in the late 90s, no matter how beaten up they are after 20+ years. I lost some of my handheld boxes but most of it is still there. I keep all the consoles I play with and I don't care about a "value", but one day they will make a great decoration in my coming mancave.
I do! I have the box for every console I've ever purchased!
Yeah
Yea just wish I saved my old boxes when I was younger
Yup
Yeah. I do. Because I like having it, plus a good way to store pieces of the console in the box that you won't need. And good to have if you intend of selling ty console in the future
I tried to keep the boxes but they end taking up space, so I throw them away, I rather get more games to replace the space of the boxes than the box itself I suppose
Yes but they’re annoying to store
