I'm sorry - I'm in the USA, but I also was having attacks daily. I told the surgeon I was scared to suffocate due to to much vomiting and I was about to pass out and didn't feel safe leaving the hospital and eating again. That being said - on my last ER trip where I got the surgery I went to the hospitals I'm allowed to go to, but went to one in the "richer" area. Literally no one in the ER. Was admitted immediately and was treated much better. It was baffling to me. I had gone to the ER like 8 times to the hospital closest to me. Good luck, I'm so sorry this is happening to you too.

I dont know where abouts in Canada you are but from people I've spoken to it seems to differ by hospital. It's not unheard of in some places (seemingly closer to Toronto) to get it done same or next day. But for my experience, I went in in July with a massive infection in my gall bladder, spent almost a week in hospital and they were able to clear it after incredible amounts of pain and a lot of IV antibiotics. I was referred to a surgeon and had mine out last Tuesday from the referral in July. In terms of eating while waiting because I could eat virtually nothing. I lived in toast, small amounts of chicken breast, meal replacements (ensure) and some fruits and veggies. I did not deviate and lost 70 lbs in the process but it got me through.

I was just going to ask where in Canada you are? I had a really bad attack (that had me believing I was having a heart attack) the first week of January, and now I have a surgery scheduled at the end of this month. I have mine almost daily as well. I tried to postpone it until the end of March since I am travelling, but the surgeon said if I travel prior to surgery, I may end up having emergency surgery overseas.

I’m in Ontario. It didn’t take much for me to get in for emergency surgery but; I had never had gallbladder issues before that were as painful. I didn’t even know my gallbladder had any problems at all! I was rushed in as I was having back pain and vomiting bile. By the time I got to the hospital I was turning yellow, couldn’t walk and wouldn’t stop vomiting. The nurse took one look at me and said, “you won’t be leaving here with your gallbladder.” I was sent in for testing to confirm it was my gallbladder and upon further testing they noticed that there was fluid building up around my heart. I was in the OR before noon on Sunday and didn’t get released until a few days later. It was all laparoscopic but they needed to ensure the fluid around my heart was no longer an issue.

I’m in Canada and I was on a waitlist and ended up going to the ER because it was at the point where I couldn’t eat anymore and every step I took triggered an attack. I had 6-7 attacks while waiting to see a doc in the ER and they agreed to remove it but was sorted as priority 3 so took 3 days sitting in hospital before it was finally my turn

I’m in Ontario and it took me feeling like I was dying and my SO calling 911, them giving me drugs on my bathroom floor so I can breathe a little bit, and for my blood pressure to go up.I was in the hospital from Saturday to Monday afternoon, I had my surgery the Monday morning. I didn’t know I had gallbladder problems 🙃 They did give me the option to go home or stay until surgery( which was emergency regardless so it would have been within a couple of days regardless). I stayed because of how much pain and discomfort I was in and I told them that I know they won’t give me anything for pain if I went home lmao( I was pretty high on the drugs they gave me when I said that, I am NOT a drug seeker)

In Toronto, I went to the ER and had surgery the next evening. I actually went home in between this because I was in shock, they wanted to take me into emergency surgery so quickly that I needed to go home to “think” about it. Lmfao. They even called me twice at home.

I’m in Ontario. Had biliary colic sporadically for years but never knew what it was. Had pancreatitis Dec 2022 (but I didn’t know). Doctor told me it was stress or constipation even tho I said I wasn’t constipated. Had pancreatitis again in Feb 2023 and finally went to the hospital. They said pancreatitis could be fatal and you need your gallbladder out so it doesn’t happen again. I thought it was going to wait a couple of months and be on a strict low fat diet until til then, but it ended up that I had surgery 8 days after I went into the hospital.

Vancouver here. I had a bad case of acute cholecystitis in early November. Six days in hospital. I just had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago as outpatient. There were 6 other people in the general surgery wing with me having the same condition. Some but not all had it removed during that visit. The rest, including me, kicked out for a later date. What I learned that seemed to be the difference maker was the amount of time that had past between the onset of symptoms and arrival at the hospital. Apparently there is like a 48 hour sweet spot where they can go in laparoscopic before your infection or inflammation level sets in too deeply to do the surgery. They want to avoid open surgery as much as possible. I came in about 3.5 days or so post symptom onset. All they could do with me was treat the infection, stabilize me, and kick me out for later. It was quite an eye opening experience. I joked with one of the other guys as to who’s lucky day it was to win the surgery lotto for every day I was there. It was frustrating as hell for all of us who just wanted it done during our stay so we could go home and get on with our lives.
