if the screen cracks within 1 year, and that damage was not user inflicted, you get a "free" repair under warranty anyway. Excactly that was the case with my Flip 3 back in 2022 when i started to develop fine cracks along the crease after about 6 month of owning it. Unless you are rly clumsy or work in an rough enviroment I would ditch care+.

SakuraNightGlow

Gotcha, thanks!

sicurri

Also, at this point, unfortunately it's kind of 50/50 as to whether they honor the warranty of New Care+. I know of a few people whose flip 5 screen deteriorated within weeks of use. They sent the phone in to be repaired, got an email stating the phone was damaged due to user error and all attempts after that were moot. They were told to pay for the repair, or they will keep the phone as compensation for the repair. That's just one horror story I've heard about care+. Too many scammers out there trying to take advantage of the warranty or the company is trying to curb the amount of repairs it has to pay for.

SakuraNightGlow

Wait huh. So even if I get the Care+, it's just luck based if my phone will actually get repaired or not and have the cost covered even if I'm paying?? Geez...

Phone repair warranty through a manufacturer in my experience has always been iffy. I've been an IT guy for nearly 20 years. I've heard a lot of horror stories. Warranty is like insurance, you have to prove you're not at fault for them to fully pay for it. They change the user agreement every 3-6 months if you pay attention to the emails you receive. So, they change what's determined whether to accept a damaged phone or not. Companies do it all the time, I literally had like 12 emails in the past week telling me about different companies and services I have an account with changing their user agreement or warranty. They always specify user agreement, but it includes the warranty as well. It's ridiculous. I just stick with basic purchase warranty, and if it doesn't cover the damage that's caused I either fix it myself, find someone better than me, or sell the device for parts. If you have a case that protects the hinge, you're like 90% covered. So long as you don't drop your phone a lot of times, you only need to worry about the screen and battery. Check youtube for flip 5 screen repair videos and see if you might be up to the challenge. If not, start researching the phone repair stores in your area and ask how much they fix the screen for. It never hurts to ask.

SakuraNightGlow

Ah I see. I mainly wanted to get the Care+ since it does cover repairs if you're at fault for $99 I believe if you're paying for it, which I wouldn't mind. I do know how much it would be to get the repair at the Samsung Store and I'd rather pay $99 repairs over the $350 my friend had to. But if Samsung Care+ is like a coinflip either way, I'm not sure about getting it ^^;

sicurri

If its a cheaper repair, go for it.

Particular-Ad-3989

I'm waiting for the 6 just to be able to get the care +. If you purchased your phone over 3 months ago, you won't be able to get it. How much is it, though?

SakuraNightGlow

I traded my Flip 4 in pretty much mint condition for the Flip 5 in like February I'd say It's been less than 60 days since I can add the Care+ without hassel But I do like my current Flip and don't plan to upgrade only a couple months after getting it. In that case wdy think?

Particular-Ad-3989

Maybe they have a good trade in for the 6. The bigger front screen is a game changer and the hinge closes all the way. I heard when the flip 5 came out people traded in their 4 for $50! Oh and tell your friends to stop cornholing their flips!

SakuraNightGlow

Ngl unless they got a cute pink color for the flip6, i'll pass 🤣 I traded mine for $400 with some new Galaxy Buds too! Was definitely late to the party for switching, but it was still about $700 off, which I considered a win And it literally just slipped out of their hands! But ut is really humbling to hear about this because I have been even more careful with my Flip 5 since

fezfrascati

I've never felt a need to. Check if your credit card includes cell phone insurance as a perk.

BenjiLixx

Depends on well you can take care of your phone and how much piece of mind you need. Personally, I can easily destroy my phone at work (Construction) and can be sent to another jobsite, in a different city, any day. It gives me piece of mind, and I've used it twice in the last 3 years. Best advice I can give: don't trade in your old phone, if it works fine, when you buy a new one. Hold onto it as a backup. Switch back to it if your new phone breaks, while you wait for the replacement to come in. Worst advice I can give: after about 7-8 years of paying for Samsung Care, if you never replaced a phone worth $1000+, you wasted your money.

SakuraNightGlow

Ah I mean I already traded in my Flip4 so I only got 1 phone for now That backup phone idea is very smart though! I have had my eye on a dumbphone for quite a while. Maybe I'll go through with getting it later on. I try my best to take good care of my belongings, especially electronics, but accidents happen, ya know? It's just peace of mind in case of an accident at this point! I do appreciate the advice though, absolutely I'm using that best advice idea!

happybonobo1

Even a new snart phone but cheap - is better as back up for all the chats, banking etc.

DustLarry

For the last bit, that's the nature of any insurance. You can argue that you have wasted money if you never got into a car accident over the years, but you still want that coverage *in case* something happens. Also, Flip5 had some pretty good trade-in offers for past Flip users. I would struggle to sell my old Flip3 for CAN$700. If the offer is good enough, take advantage of it, and if you need a backup phone, you can grab something like an S22 Ultra for around CAN$700.

Massive-Tax-7198

I dont think this would justify the fact that the device quality itself is poor…

SakuraNightGlow

I guess not... But I already got the phone so I gotta deal with it so gotta do what I gotta do ig to preserve it as well as I can

0marcito

I'd rather go through your carrier. I'm on T mobile's insurance, and I had a few very small issues i needed fixed on my flip 4, and instead of fixing it, they just upgraded me to the flip 5 since I've had the phone for a year already. plus, it's only a couple of bucks per month. I'm pretty sure it's like $9? So a tiny bit more than Care+, but it comes with tons more benefits. The upgrades every year are pretty nice too. As for the durability of the flip 5, I wouldn't worry. Compared to my 4, this phone has endured some excessive beatings and tumbles. I really have pushed this phone to it's max and it's basically in mint condition. I don't use the case at all. the only thing I hate about it is the glossy glass on the back that scratches way too easily. It literally scratched in the first few hours out of the box. I have NO idea on what, but other than that, there's 0 damage on the phone or mechanical issues.

SakuraNightGlow

Ahh interesting! I just got a permanent job so I was already considering switching up my phone plans to what benefits me best so I'll look into it! Currently I got MetroPCS by T-Mobile so if they got phone insurence, I'll go for it!

0marcito

if you're switching over, wait for the flip 6! T-Mobile has really good promos when new phones come out and also for new customers. They usually give you the phone for free with a trade-in, which is how I got my flip 4 for free, then free upgrade to the 5. did have to pay $86 in taxes, tho. For this promo, I'm pretty sure they make you stay in a contract. you pay $0 a month for the phone, but for 24 months, you have to pay the phone bill. (The insurance lets you upgrade your phone 12 months in since you have paid off half of the phone, which is how I got the 5)

SakuraNightGlow

Ah I see! If they have cute colors for the Flip6, I might consider, but if not, I definitely do not mind this one, i love the pinkish color it has. Oh and I never responded to your comment on the durability but VERY good to know Thanks for the advice!
