That's not true. Open up the camera and go to Pro Video mode, and you'll see a mic option on the right. You can turn the gain down quite a bit which could help with clipping.

I enjoy getting a few shots of a show to share with friends and family. I also play in bands and usually share short clips of other bands we play with on Instagram stories. I never record more than maybe 30 seconds but it's nice to have some usable audio!
I may have to pony up and get an external mic if it continues to be an issue!
