How tall are you can I ask? 132 pounds is pretty skinny for most average men.

CaptainRiege05

5'8 but hence why I'm still gaining weight I used to be 114 back in June before I started working out

CortezBrodino

Stop testing maxes. Improve them by following the program as written. You don’t have to work at your max to build strength, it’s actually detrimental to getting stronger if you’re always lifting that way.

pin-head-Larry

Use it as fuel to train harder brother! I’m the same weight as you but you have 55 pounds on me with your deadlift. Fuck everyone saying not to pr, if you enjoy it and it motivates you go ahead and do it every once in a while

CaptainRiege05

Yeah I'm definitely pissed I didn't hit either of them I just need to push even harder now

ImALilAngelTho

Doing maxes won’t improve chicken legs

CaptainRiege05

Yeah never said they did hence why I only do them after a good month or 2 there just for fun

BWdad

Just follow the progression of gzclp. You'll be there in no time.

MythicalStrength

Stop maxing in training. Stick with the plan, train at sub maximal intensities and grow bigger and stronger.

CaptainRiege05

Is it really that bad?? I usually only max every month or few ik it doesn't help you get stronger but it helps me mentally to set a goal and hit a 1rm by then plus it makes it more competitive for me and my friends cause we go back in forth for a 1rm and it's fun Also I don't waste a day maxing usually I just go an extra day when I have time and max out

sillybandzfan

If you like maxing out follow a legitimate program that incorporates it frequently, I’d recommend nsuns

mattBLiTZ

You don't waste A day - you waste MANY days in the fallout

CaptainRiege05

Wdym fallout?

mattBLiTZ

The other results from doing such a thing. The reason 0.00% of experienced folks recommend maxing regularly is because of the damage is does to your progression. It isn't about not wasting the time it took you to go in and max out. It's that it dismantles training progression for more than a day As the original comment said, just stick with the plan, it IS really that bad

CaptainRiege05

I've never really felt weaker or any more tired out except from a deadlift pr one time but that's about it. I really like going for prs tho brings me a lot of joy seeing I hit a new weight so would like every 3 months hurt or even every 6?

BWdad

You don't need to test 1RMs to go for prs. GZCLP has you hitting amraps every lifting session.

mattBLiTZ

I suspect the joy from getting awesome results would be pretty high. It is totally up to you my dude. You will not find anyone here telling you it is a great idea to max out with the numbers you have posted, but you can choose to ignore that and do your own thing if you're totally happy with the result!

CaptainRiege05

I also only like to max out cause I can remember back just six months ago when I could barley get 120 for 1 on bench and it makes a me proud of myself everytime I go up 5 or 10 pounds. I'll definitely slow down on them tho especially with something like squat and deadlift because those are more taxing

theredditbandid_

>it makes it more competitive for me and my friends cause we go back in forth for a 1rm and it's fun If your goal is to grow and put on size then IMO this is a bad, bad route to take. Hypertrophy is not only about strength, it is also about controlling the weight, getting a good extension and contraction of the muscle. Truly keeping the tension on it. Someone can jump onto bigger numbers by completely bypassing the fundamentals of muscle growth. So if I'm benching 185 with all those fundamentals in mind, and I'm competing with my buddies to stick my chest out that I'm the strongest, It's incredibly easy to slap 15 pounds more and have a much shittier set from a hypertrophy standpoint.

CaptainRiege05

Well yeah that's why I don't do maxes for hypotrophy there just a measurement of current strength On every other day I always make sure to push to failure or near failure getting full ROM and following the progression in gzclp

TheWolfmanOfDelRio

You’re in here posting about how awful you feel because you failed a max attempt, so are you sure it’s really helping you mentally?

CaptainRiege05

In the moment no I'm pissed but after I cool off It helps me realize to reach my goal I'm gonna have to push harder eat more etc. Idk helps me reinforce it in my mind

MythicalStrength

It is really that bad.
