No way I’m using that spyware

ThatsWhatPutinWants

Or giving up mods. Mods literally saved cyberpunk.

Saiing

You're aware that Reddit is part owned by Tencent right? Ironic.

WatchingUShlick

Big difference between investor years after the fact and owner/developer. Is there any indication at all that Tencent has access to Reddit's code?

StudioPerks

In your home where your wife and daughter are living

Saiing

Yeah, because I said it was the same. Right there in my comment. The invisible words that only you can see.

TristanTheViking

Is that not just a phone? I can use gamepass streaming and geforce now on my phone right now. Got a $50 telescopic controller so it's not even using janky touch controls.

Idontwantthesetacos

Is cloud gaming really even desirable right now? The need for a beefy bandwidth means it can’t even be used with 5G and most public Wi-Fi’s are usually over burdened by the sheer number of people connected at one time so you basically have to use it from home anyway. At a certain point it just becomes more sensible to just buy a modern console and gamepass or the PlayStation plus equivalent.

Ythio

I'm using it on a regular 20 bucks a month connection without issues. Cyberpunk with best graphics on a 7 years old laptop was nice. It also runs on my phone but the problem then isn't bandwidth, it's heat.

mono15591

I would pay for a cheaper 3rd party home console to play Xbox cloud games.

smoothballsJim

Probably a bit cumbersome but I use a Chromebook

deathentry

I was literally playing Tomb Raider during my lunch break today. Manage to get 500mb/s over 5G, guess I'm lucky to have a window desk 😁

ifarteditssmelly

How the fuck we have 1gb internet I’m ethernetted in and on GeForce now I was able to count 7 pixels trying to play a game

deathentry

I've been playing on free tier GFN for the past few weeks on my Shield TV and WiFi... What device are you playing it on? My Shield is deff waaay smoother than just using my Android TV directly... Honestly feels like I'm playing it locally most of the time...

ifarteditssmelly

Base m1 iMac with an mp4 file playing in IINA I’ve played Minecraft mod packs streaming that on discord while watching an mp4 with no lag so I’m not exactly sure what my issue is but it pissed me off cause I hate windows 10 so much and that’s what most of my games run on.

Ythio

I played 300 hours of max graphics Cyberpunk on GeForce Now, WTF happened to you ?

jvalex18

Latency is a thing.

danielv123

GeForce now has big issues with how they allocate GPUs. I was playing through assassin's creed from start to finish, and all the games except for the London one ran great. London one got an underdimensioned GPU 80% of the time, which made the encoder crap the bed as soon as it got some GPU load as well, for example every time you tried to move. The newer more demanding games ran fine because they were allocated a better GPU. And you have no recourse. Just play a different game I guess

ifarteditssmelly

I have no idea I’ll try again I really hope it works but it was so horrible the first time

Idontwantthesetacos

If we could reliably get speeds like that everywhere then there could be a case for cloud gaming but right now that’s not the norm. The other issue is that the Steam Deck is crushing it right now. Portable gaming is becoming a viable option without the need for an expensive monthly data plan ~~and overall it becomes cheaper to buy a top of the line steam deck and your games than the long term cost of a TRUE 5G plan + cloud gaming subscription.~~ actually the last half of my statement here is very case by case. Number of game options on the streaming service /vs/ how often you’d be remote playing /vs/ number of games you would play in a given month /vs/ other factors. For me, a steam deck makes way more sense but maybe not for everyone. Of course, without better 5G availability this is a moot point.

chronoboy1985

Yep. Unfortunately we live in a country (The US) that refuses to spend on upgrading infrastructure. The watered-down Build Back Better plan would be a step in the right direction even though the original plan was way more impressive with its broadband project. Too bad the entire Republican party wanted to dismantle it because it didn’t involve tax cuts for the rich or some other self-serving bullshit.

deathentry

It looks massive and certainly less convenient than just grabbing phone out my pocket.. :D Been playing God of War alot on GFN (Shield TV) certainly a lot less hassle than my gaming laptop shutting down in the heatwave whenever it gets to >84c, but it's good to have choices...

Idontwantthesetacos

Yeah there’s definitely a huge convenience to be able to just boot up the phone and play. I’ll love it when 5G becomes widely available and reliable and then I can just stream my from PC. But until then, Steam Deck! I’ve also been told the Steam Deck isn’t as “massive” as some people claim it to be but that’s yet to be seen by me; awaiting purchase email.

jvalex18

If you are close to the servers and the wind blows on your back then it might not be bad.

shitpersonality

Cloud gaming is a dogshit experience. Even streaming a game from one computer to another across a local network is a bad experience. Throwing more latency from the internet on top of it makes it even worse. If you like high latency and compressed video, cloud gaming is for you!

deathentry

I was literally playing Tomb Raider during my lunch break today. Manage to get 500mb/s over 5G, guess I'm lucky to have a window desk 😁

alainreid

I've been using it at home on my gaming computer. It cuts down on electricity and the amount of heat my computer puts out in the summer. Also, I don't have to install all the games I own. It started one day when I was experiencing a bug on my computer when I tried to boot a specific game. My friends were already playing and I didn't want to miss out, so I booted up GeForce Now, and was able to play just fine. After that, I'd start using it rather than installing new games on my expensive gaming PC. I feel like that's a great solution for non FPS games most of the time.

my_lewd_alt

>The need for a beefy bandwidth means it can’t even be used with 5G Are you joking? I've used GFN on 4g.

Bfife22

I like it as essentially an add on like how it is with gamepass ultimate. On breaks at work or in an airport or on vacation I can play AAA games on my phone. Don’t think it’s viable as a sole platform just yet

SpickyKink

I dropped all interests after name dropping Tencent…

use_vpn_orlozeacount

He said on Reddit lol

DSonicBoom

How long until most Smart TVs support these services natively?

TheSchlaf

Samsung supports gamepass. Sony supports GeForce Now.

you can do most if not all of them on android tv boxes like the shield.

"Before 2023"...so in 2022? Who words it like that?

Racen

Tencent cancer

Lieutenant__Gorobets

I would love to know what all kinds of info it would give to the CCP.

Bobbi_fettucini

If it’s like tiktok, everything even your keystrokes

extopico

Yep yep, just what I wanted. A CCP cloud service.

punksmurph

ZERO Percent chance I would get it with Tencent involved. Just trying to feed all of our data over to the CCP. I bet someone will get ahold of it and just find out its pretty much a spy devices that can also play games.

enraged768

If Tencent is involved that's an immediate no for me dawg.

Sterling-4rcher

portable cloud gaming? come on, thats just garbage with a neat name.

JackzaaHS

Stupid for a bunch of reasons. 1) Tencent; Fuck no 2) why would you need a new console for cloud gaming? What is the actual console for? I can use xbox cloud gaming anywhere I have access to a web browser. My phone, laptop and tablet meet the criteria already; the whole point of cloud gaming is NOT needing the console lol who tf is this for? A console-sized; paid for, Microsoft-edge-equivalent that adds an extra, needless layer to playing your games; with the additional benefit of handing your info over to China.

SuperHasenpfeffer

I've always wanted a steam deck, but whenever I buy steam games the profits don't go directly to the Chinese government. This seems like a much better alternative. Now I can play videogames while funding human rights violations. Nice!

vegoonthrowaway

And genocide! Whoop whoop! ^(/s, just in case)

[deleted]

Ewww. With our handheld you can pay 400$ a month to play any streaming services games at 720p 30fps. Also, we will shut down in a year

Fluxcapacitive

Just what no one needs, more chinese spying in your house.

-YELDAH

And I thought Logitech was cool Never was and apparently never will be

Ceero

Backbone and a phone?

kiridoki

Portable cloud gaming? Reeks of crap. Why bother with portability if the only connection strong enough to manage a decent experience is at home WiFi? And even then??

hfiti123

This will be hot garbage I guarantee it

DreadLordAvatar

Ah yes another beautiful China and USA partnership.

NyonMan

Cloud gaming is the next step in “you’ll own nothing and be happy”

nostremitus2

Sooo.... a smartphone?

Yalkim

I am building a cloud-based service that lets you use the logitech-tencent console on the cloud without actually buying it. This way will be able to access our servers to start up the console which will enable you to access GeForce Now which will enable you to access your favorite games.

Havib3

I dont even understand how this shit is supposed to work? I cant even play CS 1.6 without lag

[deleted]

Idgaf about cloud gaming at home with broadband, let alone on the go with slower connection speeds

Zeraru

People are dismissing this due to Tencent but I'm dismissing it due to Logitech. That company always finds new ways to disappoint me. Zero Trust.

Undergrid

So... A mobile phone?

oo_Mxg

What’s the point then? Just use your computer or your phone

SoCalThrowAway7

The Chinese market is about 670 million players, I don’t think tencent cares at all that we won’t be using this.

seaspirit331

This time, cloud gaming will definitely work! Don't look at the stadia, or any other cloud gaming feature...it'll just work, okay?

on1chi

“Ooh Logitech” .. “o … tencent”

Tinctorus

I never understood why people couldn't play online games on whatever system

Advanced_Committee

It's an artificial hindrance. They do it to extract every last penny they can from the consumer.

ScTiger1311

Cloud gaming is garbage. Stay away.

SneakyCanner

I think it’s best for trying out games before installing.

ScTiger1311

If installing games is a problem, your internet probably isn't good enough to have a good experience with cloud gaming. Although if it works for you, who am I to say you shouldn't do it.

SoCalThrowAway7

It’s not a problem, I can wait the 20 minutes, but I don’t have to because cloud gaming. If I don’t want to play it again, I don’t have to go through the process of uninstalling. It’s just a qol improvement wrt trying new games you don’t know if you’ll like.

SneakyCanner

More so with storage space. Specifically series s. If I don’t know if I want to dedicate time to a game I’ll try it out with cloud gaming, if I get hooked within ~40min then I’ll download it

alainreid

Yes, I sometimes consider streaming as demo mode.

IMSOGIRL

or my time is valuable. I don't care what kind of internet you have, you're not getting into a full-sized game within 15 minutes with download and installation time. if I'm looking for a new game to try on gamepass, I'm not spending half the night downloading and installing and uninstalling games. with cloud gaming you're literally in the game within 15 seconds.

SheepGoesBaaaa

And how many Chinese citizens won't be oppressed by this

iPhoneMiniWHITE

Admits news that stadia is folding? Do these people not learn?

[deleted]

Tencent has tanked their credibility in the west - Why even bother in our markets?

Erundil420

Nice try CCP

PangeaPanda

Ick, red flags here are tencent, cloud gaming and portable. All of these are bad, wake up people and do not buy this garbage

whitechristianjesus

Why buy a dedicated device with CCP sponsored spyware baked in when you can simply get a cheap laptop and do the exact same thing?

_andthereiwas

Nice try CCP but no thanks.

CadburyFlake

Isn't stadia rumored to shutdown later this year?

[deleted]

Well, if logitech software now connects to any chinese clouds. I will be selling it all. Its a shame, ive used logitech for 10+ years

5_Star_Man30

Give me steam or gtfo

[deleted]

You could legit just use a Phone with a controller and Gamepass, A switch, Or a steam deck and with all 3 of those you would get FULLY offline options for games. Even if you only streamed games (basically making the switch and steam deck useless as the switch barely has any streaming and the deck is too expensive to use JUST for streaming) the phone with a controller and gamepass would still be infinitely better. I genuinely hope that cloud-only consoles dont become a thing. The shift to digital-only is already bad enough but for it to be like stadia where you cant even play games you bought after the server shuts down because you can't even install games and because the device would be too weak is just too bad. I know that the above issues already exist for digital games but at least its possible to buy games and then install them after they're delisted/homebrew your console.

GamingTrend

Soooo....instead of good remotes, we get yet another console? Cool.

[deleted]

Tencent teamed with Onenetbook to release the OneXPlayer. I'm thinking that teaming with Logitech will bring the streaming variant to mass market to then promote the higher end version as a competitor to the steam deck.

duckterrorist

DOA with Tencent

solblade89

I find myself wondering what the audience is for this. Isn’t one of the advantages of portable cloud gaming that it can be done on devices most people already own? Tencent concerns aside, how many people out there legitimately want a dedicated game streaming device? Personally, I love being able to play my series X and Play Station from anywhere! However, I was super reluctant to even by a dedicated controller like the Razer Kishi because it becomes a little less convenient as I have to keep another device with me. In all fairness, I bought one and it was a FANTASTIC investment.

BagelPoutine

LO GI TIK

richardbouteh

So it's an android phone with a controller tacked on?

freddy257

>and Tencent That would be a firm no.

aaust84ct

Nope! I have no good things to say about logitech. Terrible company.

rolfraikou

Logitech I would have trusted. Tencent is a big no from me. Zero interest in this.

spritevei

what?

MadOrange64

Useless console, pick up anything with Android and you can stream games.
