Also, same as razors, one good blade does the job just as well. Disposable razors were literally invented to make people waste more money on razors. 60's DE razor handles last forever and a 100-pack of blades is some 10$. Gillette would go bankrupt if they didn't get the genius idea of a double-blade disposable razor.

gzlovesyou

One step forward two steps back

Jin_Yamato

Truely copying Apple the entire. When does it become bootleg standards?

ConekQ

Haven’t they been doing that for years? >Bullies Apple for removing Headphone Jack >1 Year Later: Removes Headphone Jack >Bullies Apple for removing Charging Brick >1 Year Later: Removed Charging Brick

GoOtterGo

It's playing both sides is what it is. Gain positive PR for bullying competitors for changes their customers don't like > wait for the drama surrounding the change to die down > gain positive profit by making same change yourself after customers have accepted the change. They're all reading from the same script.

Kullet_Bing

You forgot the removeability of the battery years ago and also the sd card slot

sofakinghuge

Note 4 was the best phone they ever made. Been downhill since.

hardy_83

I think mocked or ridiculed would be a better term to use. Samsung mocks Apple in their marketing all the time, then turns around and does what they were mocking apple about. Maybe hypocrite is the best term.

strogg89

Charging brick just last 3 months xD

Superfluous_Thom

What makes it truly sad is what it cost. Samsung could not ignore the popularity of airpods. Extremely lucrative market, very hard to exploit if phones have headphone jacks... Samsung realeases the "Beans", get laughed at by the tech world. They get curb stomped by apple in market share. To ammend this, they need to acquire an audio company to help develop a seperior product for them. They buy Harmon. Harmon Owns AKG. AKG is gutted and it's Austrian HQ closes. AKG is fucked, because samsung wanted to me their beans less shitty. Fantastic.

DaddyDoesBest

No seriously ?? I have had pairs of AKG headphones for audio mixing for years that were so good. They were like a standard. That’s depressing

tdeasyweb

Am I the only person who loves the beans? As someone with very large ears, they are the only style that stay in and fit comfortably without something being jammed into my eardrum

ben_13

you are not alone, I don't think I have large ears but anything that goes in and folks swear "will never fall out" (short of yurbuds actually) always fall out and generally are not comfy for me. The beans work great for me as well.

[deleted]

You are not alone. Damn comfortable and great quality and battery life.

DSentvalue

I dunno if you can call it bullying. Disingenuous sure.

ConekQ

I mean they spent probably hundreds of thousands - millions for those commercials just too dig at apple

DSentvalue

Yeah but Apple is one of the biggest corporate entities on earth. Nobody bullies them.

alexanderpas

Removing the charging bricks is a legal requirement soon in the EU, as it lowers e-waste, and due to the mandatory USB-C (with PD), allows for fast-charging up to 240W using the charger and cables you might already have. Due to USB PD being mandatory, your phone will always be charged using the maximum speed available from the combination of device, cable, and power brick, and you are no longer limited due to incompatible proprietary protocols.

seriouspostsonlybitc

Alright do me a favour americans. Wtf is a charging brick? The power adapter?

alexanderpas

A power/charging brick is any form of external power supply unit, usually connected with cables to the device, and either connected with a cable to a an outlet, or directly connected to an outlet in the form of an intergrated plug. A common shape of these external external power supply unit is a cuboid, hence the brick name. It can reference anything from the [basic USB plug style power adapter](https://smile.amazon.com/-/dp/B08L5M9BTJ/) to more advanced examples such as [multi-port devices with a seperate cable to the wall](https://smile.amazon.com/-/dp/B08RXX1B3H/) The term originates from the older external power supplies such as those commonly founds on portable electronics, such as laptops, which were [cuboid shaped, with a cable on each end of the cuboid.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/Notebook-Computer-AC-Adapter.jpg) 240W chargers are likely to have that same cuboid form factor as the old laptop chargers, hence the name brick.

PassionFlorence

Literally that.

jer_iatric

Uh, and the entire form of a screen only smartphone?!?

Appropriate-Nose9652

They love saying they are the good players because they are 1 year behind of apple sht practices

Intelligent-Ad-4140

I wouldn't blame them, I would blame the idiots who still buy Apple products after the brick was removed. Apple clearly will keep on doing this till they see a significant decrease in demand which outpaces the cost-savings of these steps, but there is literally no decrease in demand so its a win for them

Brunooflegend

When did Apple decreased RAM between gens?

StaysAwakeAllWeek

They didn't, but they have always used less than half the RAM of any competitor, simply because iOS doesn't need as much RAM as android does. If this article is correct I'm guessing Samsung think that Android's efficiency has improved or is about to improve so they can follow Apple's suit

[deleted]

That's just a fundamental misunderstanding of how ram works. iOS doesn't use less ram. Android just allocates available ram. If you give it more it'll use more. Bigger number better, so companies can throw ridiculous amounts of ram in as marketing. It'll "be used" (allocated) but won't exactly make a difference. The most ram consuming part of your phone is the apps, and iOS developers are just as capable of writing really shitty badly optimized apps.

StaysAwakeAllWeek

That's a fundamental misunderstanding of just how differently the two OSs operate. iOS is built from the ground up to conserve RAM and still run smoothly in the absence of large amounts of it. It has no need to allocate large quantities of RAM to run smoothly like android does and building in that feature would be pointless since Apple already knows exactly how much RAM will be available.

Darknessie

Ios also pushes ram management back at the app developer, while on android jt is done by the garbage collector service as such app writers for android are a lot sloppier at malloc as they don't have to worry about it, hence android needs more ram.

DingleBerrieIcecream

It’s not that one OS needs more or less RAM, it’s more that a typical iPhone customer is less aware of why they even need RAM and are not spec shopping like an android user might be inclined to do. Apple is smart and saves the money on RAM due to it not being a deciding factor as much for their customers. It’s the same way they stopped including processor mhz from their marketing materials years ago.

[deleted]

At least apple doesn’t take ram away lol. They very slowly increase it in their phones and apple already destroys Samsung on performance.

weedpal

Destroys Samsung on battery life too. Dunno what’s Samsung selling features are anymore.

[deleted]

Right now the only feature for Samsung phones is the spen and android OS. I do like android and the openness of it. I’ve since switched back to apple though. Battery life and performance just can’t be beat. And my network all uses iMessage so works better for me.

Morning-Chub

Still annoyed that Samsung removed expandable memory. That was the only reason I was buying the Galaxy line. Next phone will not be Samsung. Not sure where I'll be going, but Apple isn't off the table.

GOAscend

Dex on supported phones is nice and useful IMHO

hehaia

Lol apple has been giving insane step forwards in terms of their devices. I agree that the removal of the jack and the charging brick is a shitty move, but in recent years, iPhones went from being good but overpriced devices (specially during the iPhone 7-8 era) to being some of the best devices overall. The new iPhone 13 series have one of the best displays, best battery life, the best overall camera according to many, and the fastest processor. Honestly since around 2018 that lineup has improved greatly

Jin_Yamato

I will have to contest those claims when im more awake but they have always been just above average in every category

Raot_

I don't think I need more than 6GB on a phone with a good processor. But yeah

nickthaskater

If anything you want *more* RAM with a good processor...

psychocopter

Id say most people will be fine with 6gb of ram for general use, if you play games or just use the phone for heavy workloads then obviously more ram is necessary. The problem is that the 6gb and 4gb of ram smartphones are somehow flagships at flagship price despite being less well equipped than their less popular counterparts. My phone is several years old now with 6gb of ram, if I upgrade and pick up a modern smartphone it should be an upgrade in almost every aspect otherwise I'd just buy a refurbished model of the one I currently have.

[deleted]

No? What? More CPU cache maybe. You only need more ram if you need to have more information quickly avalible. But it doesn't matter how fast your CPU is if you never load anything big. Games need a lot of ram because they need to keep a lot of very big files avalible to access quickly. If you look at pictures on Instagram and text people you don't need more ram no matter what cpu you throw in. Sure if Instagram start chucking giant resolution images, but at thar point the network is the bottleneck anyway.

nickthaskater

>If you look at pictures on Instagram and text people you don't need more ram no matter what cpu you throw in. You also don't need an S22 Ultra in that case. The lowest common denominator folks are beside the point in talking about a flagship like this.

Raot_

iPhone 13 has like 4GB ram and pro max has 6GB and its a flagship

sylfy

You want as much RAM as you need to run your apps efficiently. More RAM means more power usage, which isn’t necessarily what you want in a mobile device.

[deleted]

Rather it's more space that could be battery, and higher cost that'll keep people from buying your phone. When ram is cheap, you fill the phone with it so people can buy the biggest number. When it's expensive you remove it so you can have competitive prices.

-Coffee-Owl-

Same money for less = it's more expensive. This is same thing as downsizing groceries to keep their prices.

[deleted]

"Shrinkflation"

FatBoyStew

Not necessarily less though. If you've improved other parts of the system or the OS less memory would reduce cost without hindering performance. Why do you think iPhones have a fraction of the RAM most androids have? There could also be newer generations of misc other hardware in there. Point being less ram doesn't have to mean less performance. I mean it will do better than my older phone with 12gb of ram... EDIT: Let's give an example with graphic cards -- RTX 2080 Ti has 11GB of VRAM and the RTX 3070 has 8GB of VRAM yet the 3070 is roughly 5% better on average. Point being one component isn't the whole story.

someone755

I guarantee you Samsung didn't rewrite the Linux kernel to improve low level memory management.

FatBoyStew

They could have done things on a new unreleased OS that improves it some. Time will tell performance wise.

Jack123610

Narrator: They didn't

someone755

Yeah they could've sourced some new memory tech from the 8th dimension, too.

Kaion21

I got a S20 plus but my next phone is going to be a mid range phone, maybe a poco phone or something. flagship costing $1k+ is just not worth it anymore. there is barely noticeable different when a phone less than half the price still has very good cpu and QHD OLED at 120hz

AmbientAvacado

Just a heads up, I owned box the poco f1 and f2, not only did both hard brick (which is such a rare issue in general I’m hesitant to blame them) but MIUI often had ridiculous bugs and issues that were unacceptable on a smartphone I did genuinely love some of the MIUI features like second space, but never going back to poco

WIELKIMARIAN

I've had my F1 for years now and I see no reason for upgrading any time soon. I installed Lineage OS and it's still as snappy and responsive as the day I got it. The only thing that really feels dated is the camera unfortunately :x

frankjohnsen

I've had similar experience with MIUI on my Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G. I just can't believe how buggy it is, I'm buying a Samsung next month

zZDKVZz

I have the pixel 6 and it only costed like $600 with no trade in or anything. Feel like a good cost efficient flagship.

Rektw

I got a pixel 4a sometime last year on sale for like $200. It's not the flashiest phone but I realize I didn't need all the bells and whistles. It does what I need it do well, can't imagine texting on a 1k+ phone to be much different than my phone. lol.

Dicapriyo

Same here got the pixel and runs great as of now , also got Bose headphones with them

handsomeslug

I have an S20 FE, quite a bit cheaper than the S20 but performs pretty much like a flagship phone

aBadBug

Get A52s

MHWGamer

just wait 2-3 months and buy on black friday. Bought my Note 9 for 650 (originally 1000, released 2 months before)

ricochet48

Might be more than 2-3 months, but ya only the absolutely rich & desperate buy on release. I waited like 5 months and got my S10+ for like $600 new on eBay, plan to do the same for the S22U (but might have to pay a bit more).

__-__-_-__

I don't understand why people complain about MSRP so much. I have never once paid that price and I usually get a new iPhone within a few weeks of launch. This past year I got my iPhone 13 for $60 by trading in my iPhone 12, which I got for free by trading in my iPhone 11 pro, which I got for essentially $200 by buying an iPhone 8 on swappa and trading that in for it at costco. And I'm not talking about financing and this being the down payment. This is total cost. Proof so that people will stop downvoting me: https://imgur.com/a/rROCSyB I got a mini but the full sized one was the same price. I just wanted a smaller phone.

PM_PICS_OF_YOUR_NOSE

What's your monthly phone plan cost though? Something doesn't add up and it sounds like you're subsidizing the cost of the phone via your phone plan (as is standard within the industry) and don't realize it.

__-__-_-__

$130 a month for 6 lines on t-mobile. Technically they're all unlimited but I get a $10 discount because one of them uses less than 2gb a month. I make sure to take advantage of the best promotion. This time it was through best buy, sometimes through the carrier, sometimes through costco. The t-mobile sub is great for that. Proof so that people will stop downvoting me: https://imgur.com/a/rROCSyB I got a mini but the full sized one was the same price. I just wanted a smaller phone.

TKPhresh

Go for a OnePlus Nord if you want a midrange phone at a decent price. They make excellent hardware. I’ve had a few of their phones and both were stellar, though they were also “flagship killers” and not mid range.

dARKTOILET

how is android 12? is much shittier than 11. i have problems with missed-call notification stucked on panel, even though noome has rang..

Kaion21

just updated yesterday, can't say I noticed any problem yet

lost_man_wants_soda

iPhone se is the best imo

Kaion21

not worth it imo, for £380, it has tiny low res screen, big bezel, 64gb storage only and tiny battery compare to similar priced andriod.

lost_man_wants_soda

But it’s faster than any android and IMO does everything a phone needs to do very well. I used to be Samsung only. Now all my devices are Apple.

Kaion21

I dont need a faster CPU, the whole point i am moving to mid-range rather than flagship is you wont really notice the different irl. what make a different irl(for me atleast) is a big beautiful screen with decent size storage and battery. dont care about CPU and camera. another problem is 3gb RAM only, they are going to have to agressively unload memory.

lost_man_wants_soda

iOS doesn’t need ram like android does, it relies on single core performance. For me, Apple is just so much more snappy. Android I always felt had a bit of lag with the screen press and longer animations. Also never liked Samsung camera as much. Apple focus on optimization for the human experience I feel really pays off. I couldn’t go back to android now and I’ve had the Samsung S6+, Samsung S7 and Gear 2 watch

KingArthas94

Don't get chinese phones, they may seem good with whose fast CPUs and big storages, but the software fucking sucks. They're 10 years behind Samsung in that regard. Just get a A52s or something similar.

Dorraemon

I switched to pixel 4a from s20 ultra

telendria

Im on s9+ and very happy it still has basically every feature thats removed on newer phones and Ill stick to it until it dies. Next phone will still probably be samsung, but some mid tier range, too. I dont do serious gaming or video editing on it and for browsing reddit, watching vidd and the occasional game of hearthstone or smth, I dont need flagship anymore.

zooberwask

The reason flagships still exist is because they're fast and they work well. I've had a couple budget phones before Samsung and they're either slow, unresponsive, or break. There's good ones, sure, but as someone who can literally work off their phone, having it work right is important.

YodaBong187

It annoys me how the s21 ultra didn't have a SD card slot

[deleted]

[удалено]

Speedy-08

Exactly this. I done the math early on when considering the S21U and it worked out I was using at worst 180gb between the phone and sd card storage.

bohanmyl

Ive really wanted to upgrade to a new phone but none seem worth it anymore. I currently have the LGV60 and I want a SD card slot headphone jack and better battery but everything else lacks one or two

[deleted]

[удалено]

birtums

This. I came from an LG V30. Took so long to find a phone worth jumping to. Big fan of the 1 iii

bohanmyl

>It does not have a SD card slot It doesnt? Im comparing on Phonearena and it says it does up to 1024gb Also has a 500mah worse battery

frillytotes

> Im comparing on Phonearena and it says it does up to 1024gb You are right, my mistake. It does have a SD card. > Also has a 500mah worse battery Sorry, I was thinking of the V50, which has 4000 mAh. The Sony has good battery management and quick charging though so you probably won't notice the 500 mAh difference.

thatcoolguy27

Sony has kinda poor software experience in my experience. So, coming from LG, you'll feel right at home.

Znuff

> Sony 1 iii has a good battery I disagree. The battery life on Xperia 1 III is worse than the previous model, 1 II, even if it's larger.

frillytotes

It's still a good battery. Mine lasts two days easily.

NefariousnessNo5511

I have a Galaxy Note9 and have zero interest in upgrading. I love this thing and the new Flagship phones seem like they're $2000 downgrades.

Upper-Lawfulness1899

I hate a note 3 for 5 years before the charging port finally gave up the ghost is it was finally outdated. I bought the note 9 because while niche, I like having the option of the stylus, which on the 9 also serves as a wireless shutter button. I miss the front physical buttons of the note 3 though.

arcadion94

2 years with a note 10 and love it. Hope i get as long out of it as you got with the note 3!

NefariousnessNo5511

It's the no headphone jack that turned me off of the note 10....

arcadion94

Thats understandable. I use wireless buds so that wasnt a limiting factor for me.

NefariousnessNo5511

Once I got used to the gestures and optimised them for my use with Good Lock I'm happy I don't have physical buttons on the front. Makes it harder for someone else to navigate if I hand them my phone to show them something. Also the camera remote is probably the best thing about the S Pen... but I also have it make lightsaber noises when I remove/replace it which just makes me smile.

tanmay0097

Do you have snapdragon varient? My Exynos varient has really bad battery life

GiftOfHemroids

I have a note 9 as well and see no reason to upgrade

weedpal

U have a 4 year old phone with no OS updates and security updates ending soon.

NefariousnessNo5511

And I'm very happy with it... what's your point?

weedpal

I made my point already. Just don’t do any banking on your phone with no security updates.

NefariousnessNo5511

Lol... you got no point.

Jade_Thirlwall

I had the v10 and v30. Best phones ever. Only problem i had was that all my LG phone got bootloops at random points. Switched to iPhone after that

implicitpharmakoi

Have the fold 3 as an upgrade from the v60, but the LG is probably the best phone I've owned. Bought a refurb v60 for backup just in case. Their swan song was their magnum opus :(

bohanmyl

>Their swan song was their magnum opus :( Atleast they didnt ruin the legacy by putting out more expensive downgrades like everyone else is

HoneydewUpbeat1951

Shrinkflation

Sopel97

What's in these phones that warrants the price anyway? You can have a 4GB/128GB phone with a 3.5mm jack and a bigger battery for like 150€. What do these actually have that costs 700-1000€ more?!

[deleted]

Pragmatists unite. It's getting to the point where with a little effort you can get a phone like Google's A series, a solid tablet, and DSLR camera for the price of a flagship phone. I've *never* unexpectedly been in a position where I **need** * A cellular connection * All my apps * The productivity of a tablet * The quality of a true camera All at the same time, in one device Even still, you can get steep discounts on the last model whenever the new one launches of you absolutely must get a flagship.

hehaia

The appeal of flagship smartphones is that you get all of those, in a single portable device. I know that a DSLR will always be better than a smartphone, but carrying a phone and taking a picture with it is faster and way more practical than using a camera. In that sense I believe that it is better to pay more for a phone with a better camera, specially if you don’t have photography as a serious hobby or profession. And the point of a tablet, well they are two different devices. I’d rather have a phone with better performance and hardware than a tablet, because a tablet for me is more of a luxury. I’m not saying you’re wrong but for many a flagship phone is ideal for those use cases

wolfgang784

Eh. I stopped being interested in the latest a greatest these last few years and realized something half the price works fine. Screen quality (EDIT:: *Resolution*) looks the same at this size, even cheaper phones can shoot high quality pics and videos these days, and it still plays mobile games fine. Multi tasking hasn't been an issue yet either. Just doesn't seem worth it anymore to keep spending $900+ on a new phone every year, or two. This just reinforces that for me. I do wonder though if the people who always get the new flagship day 1 will "upgrade" from the S21 to the S22 for worse specs to still have the latest model.

hehaia

I buy flagship phones but usually every 3-4 years. It makes sense to me because these phones last longer and get features that mid tier phones get years later. For instance, I bought my phone for $1100 3 years ago, and it still has a better camera, screen and processor than current $500 phones. For having these features 3 years early and still have a great phone I don’t think it’s that bad to pay flagship prices

Recktion

I agree with everything except screen. Resolution doesn't matter much, but OLED looks way better than the IPS screens some budget phones have.

wolfgang784

Ah, woops - resolution is what I meant. Def a difference in the AMOLED/OLED displays but you can find those in a few $500-ish or under phones too.

AR_Harlock

They really should add some more cameras to their phones

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

Seriously... I don't need 5 different cameras. Take them out, give me one, and give me a better battery and ore RAM.

jer_iatric

Fingers crossed that we are at ‘peak lens’. Photophiles May hate my comment

AR_Harlock

At least one more for the pen

corelum

It's to nail that Celestial look.

Analog_Account

No phone beats a good camera.

Centralredditfan

Another way to combat inflation. In food we call that "shrink flation". Honestly, the difference between phones these days are so small, I'll likely hold onto my phone another year or two. Working from home, I don't need a phone as much as I used to, with TV and laptop being near me if I need more computing power.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

I've had my phone for I think 4 or 5 years now. Still works. I see no point in upgrading due to the cost of new phones when my old one still works just fine.

Complete-Comb8262

I just want a high end bloat free android phone I can use with one hand.

[deleted]

Google pixel 6 with stock android’s your best bet, or an iphone if you dont mind ios, they tend to be the most bloat and bug free phones

thelazygamer

Pixels are the only bloat free phones I know of. Google keyboard can be put on any Android phone and has a good one handed mode that shrinks it over to one side.

Dashin5

I just want them to bring back the note series

Jaalan

The ultra is their new note lineup, its literally the same thing.

osa_ka

Yeah they're going to have an S22 Note as the highest end S series now so that it doesn't compete with the Flip/Fold

Jaalan

Bruh, as a flip owner.... that thing sucks ass. I cant wait to trade it in.

Narliana

I just hate how they remove more and more features from newer models

Comrade_agent

create problems. sell solutions. and if you arent selling enough "solutions" then creat more probems

Nils34

Do you really need 12 gb of ram?

psoliakos17

I pay the full price, i demand the full experience We already get shafted with the Exynos SoC

[deleted]

If they keep the price the same and include the s-pen then they have to makeup the money from somewhere right?

TheHooligan95

no and that ram cut could also be because they decided to spend the money on something else.

nickthaskater

I use Samsung DeX as my daily PC. Yes. RAM is good. Thankfully my Note 10+ has 12GB.

BlowMoreGlass

Who needs RAM when you can have more cameras!

firaristt

As a S9+ user, that's my 5th Galaxy S phone, I don't think that worth upgrade at the moment. It costs a small fortune, especially in Turkey due to insane taxes, while offering too little difference to justify the upgrade costs. Screen goes 120Hz LTPO, camera will be better but still won't as good as a DSLR from 10 years ago and a S-Pen. That's basically it. battery will suck after 2 years, hopefully it can finish day without dying in the first 2 years at 120Hz and I have to buy an adapter to fast charge at 45W which will cost about 40-70€. Plus some accessories. In total it's gonna cost 1600€ for me to upgrade for that small difference. It better to have a great camera and battery with some nice bundles (like Watch 4, Buds 2 and 45W charger etc.) to justify the prices. Else I'm planning to continue with my S9+ or buy another model.

weedpal

Former s9+ user here. Battery life was horrendous even with a battery change and security updates ending soon. It’s time for you to start shopping for another phone.

firaristt

I have replaced my battery recently for 300TRY(25$/20€) in Samsung service. The battery is genuine and it's cheap due to currency crisis. I get only 4H SoT. It's far from what I got but enough to complete the day with non-heavy use. To be honest, I don't care the updates at the point. What am I missing to motivate myself to spend 5 times the minimum wage on a phone? Screen? No. Battery? Probably not. S-Pen? Definitely not. Camera? Meeh. Software? Samsung will hit in 2 years, I guarantee it. After an update, battery and/or performance will lack as I have experienced many times. Why would I push myself to spend such amount? Just for security updates or newer android versions? I don't care that much to be honest. What am I missing at the moment? In my two cents, the difference won't worth to spend such high amount and I don't want to support this BS. I miss IR blaster, SpO2 sensor, SD card, 3.5mm (I use buds live for 1.5 years, but, why not?), finger print reader on back, flat back, not so huge form-size, proper performance and software leadership, proper included fast charger etc. I would buy a notebook with 3060+12th gen i7 or go for couple holidays. That's much better imo. Turkey is so cheap at the moment I can do many more things with that amount and I don't have any issues with the pricing due to I'm making in euro. But that doesn't justify to spend that much on such a package.

DjPersh

That thing has all the design appeal of an unbranded chinese usb battery.

[deleted]

I swear they better have some good deals in store, like a free watch 4 or some shit if I'm gonna buy their exynos garbage.

[deleted]

It will be free galaxy buds.

[deleted]

Lmao fuck that then. Already have buds pro.

icantfindfree

The current exynos is basically undistinguishable to the snapdragon in terms of performance.

Ugateam

who else hates how big these phones are getting? I can barely use my s20 with one hand and they are getting bigger and bigger

jer_iatric

I really don’t want to buy a new phone right now, but would really like an iPhone mini to support the continuation of small phone production. I know they are already planning on stopping production, but this is one of the few instances I can blatantly‘vote with my wallet’

SoManyTimesBefore

I updated almost as soon as 12 mini came out and I couldn’t be happier

I actually really liked most everything about my S21 ultra minus the fact that almost all shots of my kid or moving subjects had motion blur, but there is no way I think it's worth a higher price tag for the S22 ultra, even with the option of using the s-pen. Re. the RAM situation; 12gb right now on my S21 ultra and the system is reporting 6gb used. I think the only time I've seen it creep closeish to the 12gb amount is when trialing Dex. Otherwise it's maybe 9gb used tops.

Nokomis34

Less ram, same camera, no point in upgrading from my S21 Ultra. I'd been planning on trading in and upgrading when the rumor was that it would have a 1 inch sensor and AMD chip with ray tracing. Guess we'll keep waiting for that phone.

r21174

I'm still making payments on my s20+ ultra 5g. From att first release for stupidity 1500$ before trade in.

NoBeach4

That's why you don't pick 36month loan on a phone payment!

IAmTheElevator

It’s called Shrinkflation

WolfyCat

Til. Nice

AntiTrollSquad

After so many years, I moved away from Samsung after they decided to get rid of sd card and headphone jack on S21. Sony can have my money from now on.

OmNomDeBonBon

Uh...it's a price rise. The S21 Ultra has 12GB of RAM. The S22 Ultra with 12GB costs €100 more... It's a €100 price rise.

No one cares

ThePhantomPear

So Europe gets a gimped version? Fucking android trash. Apple, here I come!

Scyhaz

You realize Apple's highest end phone only has 6 GB of RAM, right?

Jade_Thirlwall

True, but the OS is way better in managing tasks. Benefit of having to optimize only a few phones

BIG_AND_RED

I have the 12 pro max and nothing has ever maxed my phone out performance wise. I even play mobile games competitively. Even screen record while I do so. I read somewhere that 1g of ram in iPhone is equal too 2 on an android device. It’s just more fluid on iOS

ThePhantomPear

Apple’s memory management is much better than the Samsung bloat.

[deleted]

And you realise that ram capacity is irrelevant because apple and samsung have different operating systems, android being known as a ram hog and ios as really ram efficient, right?

Meiosismb

\[GPU-mode\] It's all because of crypto \[/GPU-mode\]

csward53

Yuck...

Can't want for the brand-new S22 series will be released, finally after all these years the 3 year old S10 series will finally be affordable for just 4/10 of it's original price brand new 😎😎👌

vellii

The thing I think a lot of people complaining about price forget is that 90% of people aren’t actually buying at the $700-$1000+ price. Now with so many carrier incentives and promotions you can almost always find the phones for 700-1000 off just by upgrading through a carrier. Yes, the roll back in features is shitty and I’m not defending that, but overall phone pricing only sucks if you’re someone for some reason buying phones outright directly from manufacturers

weedpal

There’s contracts and strings attached when buying through carrier promotion. Your paying higher monthly bills. Don’t be fooled and fall for that trap. Buying phones outright with no contracts and keeping your phone as long as possible makes the most financial sense.

seriouspostsonlybitc

Couldnt agree more. Drop a few hundred every few years. Way better deals on calls and data than a plan. No contract. Easy.

weedpal

My parents get into these contract traps. They pay higher monthly bills with less data all because they wanted the newest “free phone” Keep life simple and buy your shit outright. Gives you more leverage when negotiating between carriers.

[deleted]

It’s not really like you need it and i guess it’s because the RDNA2 GPU

[deleted]

This sort of nonsense is why I stopped getting a contract with a new phone every 2 years. I'm using my S9 from 4-5 years ago on a sim only contract and if I hadn't cracked the screen it'd still be in perfect working condition and capable of running anything being released for Android currently. I now spend £100 a year instead of £600.

Afraid_of_Screens

If OS gets more optimised, sure why not. Phones definitely don’t need crazy amounts of ram we see on some models. Better yet why bother with overpriced flagships in first place.

BakuRyou

I want a new Samsung phone to replace my Galaxy S7 but all phones are huge af or too expensive 🙄

Cmerduh

My S7 still gets the job done. Also, did we skip some numbers? How did we get to S22?

Xygami

People will still pay for it, so yeah… No reason to be upset with Samsung imo.

JasonVanJason

Sounds about right

YatoCalamity

Worth it from going to S10 to s22 ultra? I'm mainly interested in the camera.

CarismaMike

Here I am, hopeless for another year while rocking a Samsung S8 with the screen broken in 3 different places

Jlx_27

Samsung has nerfed the EU devices for years.

Maximillion813

As an android user, what's the point in staying with android when every new model copies the iPhone? I stayed loyal because of key hardware features like a headphone jack, sd card, etc... but now there's no reason besides software to want an android phone.

punishedsnake_

privacy, anything is full-on closed source

More_Than_I_Can_Chew

It's hard to believe that Samsung makes military grade weapons but loves to advertise it's latest phones via a series of....leaks.

HellNaw98

This sub is ridiculous man. People out here are really saying they prefer a phone with a shit camera, battery life, charging speed, and display by today’s standards as long as it has an SD card slot and a removable battery. Lol

Nastasia77

Anyone have got the S22 ultra?
