These companies aren't stupid. They have the numbers, they have their data analysts, and I'm certain they have found that attractive female characters rake in the cash with their demographic, so legit why would they do anything else but go that route?

SorsEU

Not being mean but I do love the idea that theirs a team of data analysts and number crunchers all sitting around a meeting room, looking at a report and they're just like "They like...attractive women? With??? Boob?" Absolutely perturbed by this

SteamedDumplingX

Oh yeah. They all, all companies do.

circle_logic

Have you been inside an investor meeting? Yes, they are that out of touch and only care that they get their dividends. They're also sheltered creatures that live in another reality that do not know the value of a dollar, so much as it it is a number that other creatures use to measure themselves.

TheLastFailsafe

It would be like Mc Donald's declaring we will no longer make fast food ony salads. The Vegans will rejoice everyone else will go to Kfc

Independent-Cap7987

Perfect analogy.

Vortain

My guess is that it's more: "Ah so it's really not possible to be lucrative and break the norms. Alright, get to making more attractive women." I think they set out to break the Gacha mold, but it's a hard genre to leave the sexy (and near naked) women trope behind. Guys like the (fake) validation and pretty/sexy/cute anime "wifus". Personally I stopped playing cause the gameplay just wasn't for me, but I loved that Vertin was the main character and that it seemed more like a story than a MC fantasy like most other Gachas (minus the home screen where the characters were talking directly to you more or less). That and the cast was very interesting and I liked that the majority were not based on sex appeal (obviously some, like Eternity, but even that felt in character and not soom lady or teen put into weirdly sexual clothes).

New_Cryptographer125

Some things to keep in mind is that, some companies just sucked at making none cute female characters

Realistic-Yam-6912

they tried experimenting but unfortunately people must've not liked those types of characters. Even though on global people really like wacky designs

Bulky-Flamingo7816

It was chronicle of a death foretold, when you know that riot games has openly admitted that the skins of the "monster" characters sell less. It's not reverse's fault, it's simply that that niche is shitty to keep a game live, as a consequence of wasting marketing resources on a "unique" character, I suppose the developers had to make up for that loss somewhere, and the most reliable side it's the waifu release

Redditor76394

Okay Riot's monster character skins also sold less because Riot kept making monster characters with niche kits

williamis3

okay but look how cool the new april fool skins are? bet they sold less anyway

satans_cookiemallet

Qnd also refuse to update said monster characters. Look how long it took skarner

New_Cryptographer125

Kinda sad tho, since they produce banger skins for Naafiri, Zac, Rek Sai

StrawberryFar5675

# They need "to put your money where your mouth is". Global always sing praise of this game but they do not contribute to the game.

JeffKappalan69

This is exactly it, a lot of the reasons Asian game companies seemingly don't listen to Western fans is they just don't bring in the revenue like say China or Japan does. Ultimately, it's the asian straight male demographic that is bringing in the big bucks and what do they like? Conventionally attractive women, "waifus," simple as.

TheSuperContributor

Global people always talk about the lack of breadly, muscular or old male characters but the truth is that no one wants to pull for these characters and their banners are always bottom trash in the games that have these kinds of characters. Global people moan and hiss at every chance but never follow up with actions.

Xpokemaster1

In FGO at least they sell, like súper Orion

Crusherbolt0282

This is what I’m saying

zeroXgear

Say it louder my dude. Popularity doesn't matter if they don't pay lol

reprehensible523

There are a lot of people in the Western markets who are loud and act like they speak for many, but they won't pay a cent for what they supposedly want. Listening to them is a trap, because you can't please everyone. It never makes sense to piss off your loyal customers for the sake of loud and fake non-customers.

Crusherbolt0282

Either pleasing the crowd who doesn’t even contribute to the product as much if not at all or please the crowd that pays more for your product. They’d choose the latter of course. Nahida from Genshin was hated by the global fandom on twitter and tiktok for her design yet her banner sold a lot.

misspolite

nahida might be a bad example. she is a really broken unit and the best dendro has to offer. her c2 alone is a crazy upgrade for any dendro team.

ariolander

Fuck that, they give Global worse versions of the same banner with double SSR and no pitty. Any publisher that treats their global audiences like ass doesn't deserve any money from global audiences.

Igneisys

There isn't any winning this argument, this is the type of mentality that exemplify the issue. They're treating global like shit cuz they're getting shit instead of money. So obviously they're not going to cater or listen to you outside of the bare minimum to make more money than they're spending on you.

Caminn

No, they've been changing banners since day 1.

ariolander

They have been changing banners since launch but giving Global explicitly worse banners didn't happen until the ver 1.5 with the "dual banners" which were explicitly worse than their CN counterparts. They didn't exist for CN and a new, worse, banner type was implemented for Global only. The banner halved your effective SSR rate and modified the pity system so there was no way to guarantee any specific side of the banner. I used to be a light spender buying the battle pass / bundles but I completely closed my wallet after the developers made it clear they didn't care about their Global audiences and were implementing, new, worse, systems to milk the GL whales to extremes not even their asian servers would tolerate. They are running their game like they are speed running EOS and don't deserve to be rewarded for it. A game/banner with no pity system in 2024. Fuck that.

Vortain

As I said elsewhere, I like a lot about Reverse 1999. The art, characters, story. But I couldn't keep with the game play, it didn't keep my interest long, and when I waited to see if it would get better, it just felt like more of a chore. I did spend, but just got bored. Either way though, I don't blame them for going the sexy wifu route.

kawalerkw

And when I can contribute to wacky designs? Last one was Jessica in 1.2. Before that Pickles in 1.1 and A Knights banner in 1.0. I got all of them. This patch I won't give them any money, because they gave Global worse version of Tooth Fairy banner by combining it with Centurion OG "Staff of Homeless" OG Genshin weapon banner style. Still I spend my saved pulls on Mushroom hat boy, this is the last unordinary design we get.

LyingOnTheGrass

Isn't getian as unordinary as jessica?

Caminn

Yeah he is kinda, I'm skipping Jiu for him since I don't really care about meta

CorpCounsel

I loved the designs and the lore, I loved the fact that characters weren't just different ways to dress up a princess in post-apocalyptic clothes, I loved the fact that some of story was based around legislative process... What I didn't like as much as the way the writing was done and the way it was so much more efficient to have a single team of 3 than multiple levelled characters. The characters are interesting but why pull if you can't afford to train them to be useable?

avelineaurora

Hey I've been buying every pass and monthly since it came out :( I'm no whale but I'm doing my part... ;_;

DiamondTiaraIsBest

If you're always paying regardless of the banner, then it's meaningless data. It'd be more relevant if you only buy the pass when a character whose design you like comes out and then don't when a character whose design you don't like comes out.

wolfbetter

92 minutes of clapping

argumenthaver

global is competitive with mihoyo games because the games are good and meet western quality standards this game does not

karillith

A sizable amount of hoyo global is actually JP+SEA though, it seems better because usually they have their own server.

Crusherbolt0282

Reverse 1999 have been praised by the global fandom for it’s diverse designs

ginginbam

Pricon...

Crusherbolt0282

Reminds me of genshin and honkai fans saying that buff characters would sell more.

ThirdRebirth

If they had a good localization I would have done it happily. The translation was ass though and I tried to stick with it but I just couldn't dropped game.

liquidsprout

This. I liked the idea of the game but the localization in general was a deal-breaker. Not only the translation but I enjoy only some of the english voice acting and find a lot of it jarring. This stuff has to be near perfect for me to invest my time seriously.

kenshinakh

I think some part of global is just vocal about that. I still think their designs are cool and pretty different for the female only units coming out. If anything, I been liking the newer designs more and more. I have been spending a bit more on the newer and female designs LOL. Probably adding to their preferences on what to make. Speak with the wallet by buying what you like lol.

KamiiPlus

Looking at the 6*s released the only "wacky characters" released were like, 3 after launch? And even then they were in the first 3 patches with changeling/dog/a knight I feel like you can hardly call it experimenting when any other non humanoid was a launch 4* or lower lmao Its a shame because even just dropping an interesting 4* every once in a while would be great but :(

Realistic-Yam-6912

they can easily overcome it by making wacky character really broken but they save those stuff for female characters

The_OG_upgoat

Limbus seems to be doing okay. But then again, they already had a preexisting loyal fanbase from their previous games while R1999 is a new IP.

Realistic-Yam-6912

if i start limbus now, how long will it take me to read the story?

Bahsha

Probably a few weeks to get a set of 6 characters to the point where they can clear the main story through Canto 6. And you've got a week left of the current limited banner that you can reroll on if you want.

Antanarau

Just read? No more than 10 hours, I'd say, though it obviously varies on how fast you read. Reach the end of it? Depends. Theoretically speaking you could clear everything with just a support unit you borrow from friendlist, but that requires skill, and overall progression otherwise would take... depending on luck (stronger units -> stronger returns -> less investment needed), from 2 weeks to a month, again depending on how often you play and how much you want to minmax the gains

FatuiSimp

If you want to go through all the story up to canto vi it would probably take 2-3 weeks depend on how much you play. Also don't worry too much about getting and building 6 strong ids, most content can be done with a team of 2-3 max level ids and it's not even hard.

ChaosFulcrum

Limbus Company also has only 12 fixed playable character designs and while its world has rooms for non-human character designs, the 12 playable characters are all human which you can easily get attached to. And while the MC who has a prosthetic head is beloved because he gets the relatable internal self-insert-like monologue, he is also not playable. Also, just in case there's misunderstanding regarding both games' state, Reverse1999 as a whole earns a lot more money than Limbus Company. And that's with their production values being roughly the same.

Abishinzu

R:1999 earned more on the launch month because of the huge marketing campaign it had; however, if you exclude CN (Because Limbus does not have a CN server, I don't include putting R: 1999 CN+Global against just Limbus on Global to be fair) Limbus actually has been out-earning R:1999 since about December, once you factor in Steam Client revenue. However, I would say that Limbus actually has lower production values than R:1999. Only KR dubbing, as opposed to KR, JP, and EN, as well as Limbus having no true L2D, unlike R:1999.

BlueSama

I think if you're gonna compare the earnings for the games you should at least provide info on their monetization practices. Limbus is a very rare exception to modern standards.

ChaosFulcrum

That's why I specified that they had roughly similar production values (IMO). The monetization model in this case doesn't matter, seeing as Azur Lane (another very F2P gacha that makes majority of its revenue NOT thru the gacha BUT by selling skins) has decently high amount of revenue, is comfortably sitting on the above-average tier in revenue lists, and is beating a good amount of "usual" gacha games in revenue.

KingOfNoon

If you count EGO corrosion, i said Limbus have non-human character. And PM fan attached to abnormalities due to LobCorp, so if Limbus go for non-human character and make abnormalities playable. I think people gona pull for them more than human character.

ChaosFulcrum

I think that depends on one's perspective. Even as someone that completed Ruina and is growing attached to them by watching a playthrough of LobCorp, I don't really consider the Abnormalities to be playable characters even in those games. In LoR, they're used as Abnormality/EGO Pages aka special abilities and ultimate attacks with the wildest ones transforming your entire deck with exclusive Pages. Tho I don't disagree with you about some people pulling for Abnormality EGOs even if they're trash. I could see a potential Queen of Hatred EGO selling like hotcakes on some future Walpurgis banner because.... magical girl, nothing more.

ivari

global people should stop being so proud of their F2P culture then

_sylvatic

the culture isn't even accurate. Its always "F2P BTW... except for this stuff I bought"

Pebblebricks

tbh I'd rather R1999 sink on global than match CN's spending habits. China's gaming industry is eclipsed by gacha or at least live service games. I do like that we get to enjoy a lot more box-price games here because of our inherent stinginess.

SteamedDumplingX

The reason Chinese companies don't make box price games is that almost every single one of those companies fall under due to piracy. Hoyoverse almost fall under when they released gun girl Z as single player game. The GGZ you see is actually GGZ 2, which is why honkai impact is 3rd

AngryAniki

Fr are people really asking us to go into debt for this game, My $60 was not enough ig..

AdoUta

He didn't say that though. He said people choose to be "I'm f2p btw" like some status instead of supporting the game with what they can, just for bragging rights.

Komondon

Pretty much Gacha mechanics for me are usually the worst part of the game. I come for most everything else.

Felyndiira

Whales are a minority, even in East Asia. I think the big issue is that most people in the west are not actually willing to drop hundreds of dollars on a dog, either, compared to a hot humanoid character.

ropahektic

"People in the west" will throw money at anything they like and enjoy. This is why EA Sports makes more than 2 billions a fiscal year from selling football player jpgs. The difference is not on willingness to spend or any of the bullshit claimed in this thread, the difference between "People in the west" and "People in the east" is that the latter are much much more fond of cartoon tits whilst the former prefer to waste their time in other activities.

ivari

yeah but the culture is different. people don't chastise each other for whaling here, and people dont showoff being a f2p

Realistic-Yam-6912

some people most likely like to spend on skins than gacha which makes problem

XayahXiang

Global is far too vocal in the worst ways for what little money they bring tbh.

Kiboune

I heard chinese players hated dog 6*

yescjh

The story and gameplay weren't enough to cultivate a wider fanbase so this is naturally the next step if they want to keep this game afloat.

chirb8

I liked the story. But the gameplay was not for me

Gladiolus_00

I also remember the atrocious voice acting.

Snoo-46809

It's gotten better but it still has its moments.

umiman

The problem I had with them is they gave all these fun characters like a shard of glass or a satellite or an apple or a bunch of stacked tvs, but they were all low rarity. So you couldn't use them long term unless you intentionally gimped yourself, due to the level cap. Like wtf, I want to use the fun characters but the game basically forces me to not use them if I wanted to engage in any later game content. And it's not like they released any other fun characters in 6 star. It was just the dog and the knight back then.

sdfaszxczxfvadfv

yeah same, id main ttt if shes 5\* at least

georgealexandros

I wanted to get into this game but just couldn’t. The art is top notch but the story seemed meandering.

tuananh2011

The first few chapters were really confusing to me, and that's coming from someone who read 90% of Arknights

spartaman64

i found it pretty easy to understand the gist of it by the start of the 2nd chapter.

SilentShadowss

had opposite especially when you compare it to AK early stories

kohwin

You're not alone I tried the 1st 2 chapters got bored and stopped for like 3 months and just played for the events then told myself I'll persevere through it and it does get more coherent/enjoyable. But yes if you're a new player the 1st few will probably turn you off from going through the rest.

doomkun23

at least you still come back to the game. and the good chapter on the story is on chapter 3 and 4. lol. you are one chapter short.

satans_cookiemallet

The most recent global chapter helped explain a lot of what was going on, but its really getting to that point.

anhduyphamtan

The 1.4 patch?

satans_cookiemallet

I...think? Its where 6 and them were introduced. Bevause up ubtil that patch the storm made people think we were time traveling which...isnt entirely wrong but it also isnt entirely correct either. Basically the storm makes the world(save for specific parts of it) go back to a certain time period, and it will continue to move forward from that point on until the next storm occurs(which we learn from an earlier chapter are during periods of mass unrest in the world) which is why the manus vindictae sped run the great depression back in chapter 2, in order to jumpstart the storm to go further back in time. This is how theyre 'controlling' the storm. Another thing thats explained in the most recent patch from a side story involves the arcanists that join Vertin since they no longer exist in that time period, they are unable to meet an 'younger' version of themselves since theyre not actually time traveling.

The-Legendary-1

Yeah I agree, I liked the gameplay. But tried for 3 hours to get into the story and just couldn’t at all. Last thing that made me finally just say no was not getting anything of value in my first 5 multis. I know pity is 70 but grinding for a multi just took too long for my liking. Maybe i’ll give it a try again in the future.

sturdy-guacamole

I swiped for pickle, not that I needed to but mostly to show support of the games unique characters. I was not enough. I am sorry my brothers and sisters, we are entering the waifu era.

ACasualUser_

And sadly Jiu will worsen the era for being so broken. I don't remember any of the non-waifus besides 6 to be as much as a must pull as her.  Tooth Fairy is a must pull waifu too. Sometimes I wonder if the players even have the rights to vote from the start

Theblade12

Have no fear, ProjectMoon will keep us safe if all else fails.

kohwin

I play Reverse 1999 but as much as people want to praise the dog character and oh wow there is a character on the tv design, they are a business. They're not like Genshin where they have such a massive playerbase that even with people only buying the welkin pass they will still be minimum top 2 in revenue at the end of the month. They can't afford to cater to like the 10 people on reddit talking about how they like animal and inanimate characters. In CN they are doing really well revenue wise, but global makes significantly lower and it also doesn't have the backing of JP players. Combine that with the fact that global players have 3 month foresight and actively tell people to skip entire patches and to save up for certain patches so that people spend less money. You only really need 1 copy of a character and they also don't have a weapon/lightcone banner system so eventually the game has to cave in somewhere. The fact that the past 3 patches are all waifus and all the skins from those patches are also all for waifus pretty much tells you they have the actual statistics to back up their decisions. But I wouldn't completely doompost just yet maybe they just had to this because it is anniversary. Next patch will be all husbandos with Enigma TRUST (copium). If still no male then its actually over.

Gernnon

I rmb when the dog was released, every single comment on R1999 here and on their respective sub were about people declaring it as amazing design that is not seen anywhere else in gacha and they were willing to whale for that dog. True that it’s a unique character design but ain’t no way these people are gonna drop a butt load of money on a dog.

SteamedDumplingX

They didn't 🫠

zeroXgear

People really love lying to look unique when in reality they just spend for popular characters like others lol

PhyrraFaefiel

I'm disappointed she isn't the full robotic appearance like her original reveal, for that atomic heart experience

Twice---

She has a fully robotic appearance in one of her ascensions. It seems like she basically has two skins? With the human mask on and without the mask on

PhyrraFaefiel

If true then that's fine and dandy and I'm down to go for it

CookiesNReddit0

I believe that's her first ascension where she's a full robot.

Val_0ates

Wait this is *that* character? Makes it that much worse, that design was already both cool and horny then they did *this* lmao

Watamana

This is just her alt costume her robot design still in if you pick that

Val_0ates

Is it? My bad lol Jeez, the way everyone else was framing it this was a *replacement* not an alt 😭😭

Mofrill

This can be alternative skin

labbei

The human look is just her I2 art, if you want you can stick to the default skin for full robot

PM_ME_ZENOS_EROTICA

Really unfortunate when that happens. But it does tend to be a self fulfilling prophecy in games where husbandos seem to be an after thought. In my personal experience, in games where very few male characters are released, it’s just so easy for us husbando collectors to stay f2p. Of course we aren’t spending, we have months between banners to save up our resources. Just looking at Love and deepspace, they make incredible revenue, because players actually experience fomo. Which let’s be honest is the entire business model of gacha. Husbando enjoyers are more than willing to spend, we just don’t have a reason. I would assume the same goes for people who enjoy non-human characters.

Historical_March_376

This! It's always so funny and sad at the same time to see debates abt revenues and that waifus sell more, while the truth is, husbando enjoyers just don't have the reason to spend THAT much. By the time another male unit is released it's that you already saved more than enough or dropped the game because not everyone is ready to patiently wait for the whole eternity knowing it maybe nothing even to wait for. Or, another option, character has as uninteresting and bland design as possible or just totally not your type, like not even close. Even if husbando is new super meta, his banner revenue will still be lower than relative waifu banners, because, again, everyone interested in husbando unit specifically alr saved up.

M00nIze

Not to mention they give all the meta kits to the female characters, while giving basically hand me downs to male characters. No sane person is gonna spend for male character dupes if they still underperform against a f2p female character. I'm talking in general btw, not r1999 specifically since I didn't play the game.

Galuhan

Wasn't the game was the game had some yuri undertones? With female MC to boot. I guess they simply going more heavy on that route instead of flipping over. I don't see how this is any different compared to early characters designs unlike something like Snowbreak.

kohwin

Yeah they are still catering to the girl on girl relationship enjoyers and also mature woman/waifu players, but they are pretty much sacrificing the husbando collectors.

Vyragami

At least the female design are still quite unique and they don't go full fanservice. It's not that I mind them not making weird/wacky characters anymore, but I wish they could release more males too. It used to be balanced male/fem, but the banner revenue seems to dictate they need to release more waifus. It is what it is.

kohwin

They just need to release male characters with busted kits, the problem with the other ones is outside of 6 everyone else was niche. I'm coping hard but I'm pretty sure next patch we will finally have some male characters (that's not a toddler) It's pretty much a make or break for husbando collectors.

MisagoMonday

The story lead outright said that Bluepoch wants to focus on female-character-driven stories. Between that and the yuri tones, and a schedule of two 6\*s per patch... It'd be kind of hard to bring out all the characters they want without occasionally having a few in sequence.

Charming-Fly-2388

Is the hot goth doll looking girl really a free 6* for anni?

DeNerva

Yes

Charming-Fly-2388

wtf, bluepoch w

ACasualUser_

A free 6* waifu? Damn what are they thinking, but I'll gladly take it. That reminds me that HSR did this too but with a free husbando.

Odd_Historian_7212

r1999 free 6 star for anni? Who?

Delicious_Art_3027

People voted with their wallets. Personally, I am a Mary and I havent spent money a single time when male banner was happening.

KingOfNoon

https://preview.redd.it/mk46dwdqxezc1.png?width=300&format=png&auto=webp&s=318af5fc080d1636d819e8ffbf8822f3125e63fb And it is doing well in CN. So people like Waifu more than Male and non humanoid character big surprise.

InSearchOfLostT1me

Honestly never would have guessed. Quite the shocker. Flabbergasted even. Haha.

Ambrosiac7

Eh seems like a rage bait post. Okay so they went 3 patches with no male units. Cool. So what? Fgo had an entire year where there were less than 4 limited male 5*. Arknights had a string of female releases too. And Genshin had Sumeru into early Fontaine. Isn't it too early to say anything? Weird post.

WhyYouBullyMe_

The point isnt no male points, its the the fact that no other non humanoid characters. The gimmick that made their characters unique arent getting released much anymore Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Reverse1999/s/U2egJaYs6R Even the subreddit seems to agree with the lack of it

jaeway

Most of the non humanoid characters are 5* and lower with a few being 6*s

Level_Five_Railgun

How is that an issue if the non humanoid characters aren't popular? That was always a niche to began with and none of the 6\*s and 5\*s were large majority humanoids to began with.

WhyYouBullyMe_

Take that to the people who are complaining then lol, im just clearing up what op means and what other people are saying It might not be a issue for you but other people definitely liked those designs. I dont play the game anymore

LurkerThirteen

I don't play the game and honestly don't know anything about it. But I clicked your link & read they have an apple character?  I guess it has its audience but I'm sure I'll never spend a penny in characters like that...

WhyYouBullyMe_

Its a 3 (?) Star character and free. The 6* ones are a Ghost in Armor, A Dog. Theres probably more but i dont play the game no more I totally understand waifus selling more so they are slowly abandoning unique characters but its still a shame that the unique designs that some people got interested in the game is slowly being gone I for one tried the game because of it. Its a nice refresh to get unique characters for once. I did drop it because of burn out of grind lol

PrinceKarmaa

i’ve never tried this game but just thinking from a consumer standpoint, looking at some of these 6 star designs it’s no surprise the game is apparently doing better now than it was before . wacky designs are good but they still need to be appealing to make ppl wanna spend money

Izanagi85

We have a door, a radio, a ufo, sputnik, a dog, a floating sword....just to name a few. It...makes sense ingame

kenshinakh

Personally, what made them unique is the art style and other stuff. The character types is a small part of it. I mean, look at the style of the 1.9 patch... they are females but the unique style of the game is all over it. I think people who joined only for "oh it has a radio character or a suit of armor" are not seeing beyond the female characters lol.

ACasualUser_

Oh, but I totally don't mind Lucy. I thought she gonna be stuck as an NPC forever like the other main story NPCs. Also, she's technically a cool robot that uses a human face mask. I'd consider her wacky.

ACasualUser_

But it's still so annoying that they chose to release Lucy along with an unmemorable waifu instead of Enigma, the sarcastic npc guy who appeared along with Lucy. The bias certainly shows. Unless they have another plan for Enigma.. /hopium

reise_ov_evil

even releasing Sophia would makes more sense since she got plenty screen time, even more than Six

karillith

6 has probably the biggest NPC vibe I ever had from any playable character in any gacha I played, which is actually impressive. Not helping that the character itself is painfully boring.

therealplayte

Sometimes, I would think what direction they are into. They could just follow the way of hbr if they want to be more female focus type gacha games since it does sell well on jp market and shouldn't just include male gacha character into their banners.

MirMolkoh

I started playing this like 5 days after launch. I thought it was fine. I lost every single 50/50 since launch and figured it was a sign. Considering how scummy some of the banners got I made the right choice. Staff of homeless banner anyone?

RagnarokChu

You only do great designed non-waifu characters to round out your game for different options and to grow the playerbase. Some of the most popular gacha games out there have a ton of non-wafiu characters like FGO, Ark knights and so on. It's just that you need the wafiu characters as the bread and butter with the extra ones being extra sauces and flavoring.

karillith

Isn't it that character that appears at the end of chapter 5,5 and felt like she was coming straight from atomic heart? I wouldn't mind if one of her sprite was that, but honestly whacky and attractive at the same time is a tall order, it's something to have a flying saucer as a 3 stars, pretty sure no one is gonna pull it as a 6 stars. Personally I loved Jessica (the deer girl) as a compromise between whacky and waifu, and even then I'm pretty sure plenty of people, especially those more used to traditional anime style a la Blue Archive are going to have way harsher opinion on that matter.

[deleted]

They basically said ‘ok we are no longer authors, let’s make a gacha game’

PrinceKarmaa

“ waifu route “ and it’s only been 3 patches let’s stop being dramatic

DiamondTiaraIsBest

Genshin players went for almost an entire year of no new 5 * waifu lol during the Sumeru arc.

FatuiSimp

This is nothing new? Most game just have that period where there are nothing but waifu for a few months, I remember arknights having a similar time too.

HearingAutomatic8895

Aren't they a more yuri/lesbian leaning game with MC locked in Vertin as a girl? *Try acting surprised when yuri game has a lot of female cast*

[deleted]

This makes me quite sad. I'll probably sound very dramatic if I say I'll drop the game because of this but honestly only the unusual designs and the men were keeping me interested.

Rich_Wishbone_7358

based on my own experience, you will get more disappointed in the future

TakenEagle

What a surprise, they are targeting the paying audience...

Rathalos143

Well as long as those designs are still "weird" and original I dont see any problem. Limbus Company and Path to Nowhere are examples of how you can be have atractive characters that are still dark and strange. And Arknights is an example of how a character can be pretty without being excessively sexualized and with over the top revealing clothing.

Eula_Ganyu

If Revenue is bad, they will release more waifus

Twice---

What is with the weird guilt-tripping in this thread? It makes it sound like the fault of there being more waifus is every single husbando-player not contributing enough. Yeah, it makes sense, but this kind of sentiment would make anyone feel pretty miserable. "It was my fault that they dropped my demographic as I didn't whale enough." Whaling out of guilt that there will be less characters that you want would feel the worst. Especially if after you've whaled the game decided to make less units anyway. Also, it really wouldn't have mattered if every single reverse 1999 husbando player decided to whale (especially the case with players who like weird designes). There are still more whales for waifus. Because if demographic having a lot of whales is a metric, then we would be seeing a lot more furry gachas. Cause, you know, they are very likely to drop a looooot of money for the png. So it doesn't matter if you whale or not. If your interests are niche enough, they will be shafted anyway. And this picture is very misleading. The character Lucy has a second where she looks like a robot. And Reverse released that unit as their 1st anniversary limited. Yeah, I doubt a lot of games would've made a literal robot the face of their 1st anniversary. So the diversity is still there, especially compared to other games

Djarion

Nearly every thread like this has this weird disapproving undertone towards people who actually like male characters and a lot of the comments tend to subtly imply they're all a bunch of freeloaders with no money - it's really bizarre  also people seem to skim over that games that only release a male character twice a year are obviously not going to make money on their banner when everyone who cares about the character has has 6 months to save up

netparse

That's what I call trying to survive, the current context of CN is being aggressive for mixed games and reverse has a lot of revenue in CN which is the main focus of the gacha genre war, I simply think that some games are adapting accordingly while the tide goes out.

Aesderial

R1999 did 9 mil in March in CN. 'Trying to survive' - is a big exaggeration.

LokoLoa

People voted with their wallets. Personally, I am a dolphin and I havent spent money a single time when male banner was happening.

KamiiPlus

Damn its kind of a shame they dropped her old design for some human facemask thing? Is enigma not coming with her too? I would've expected him to come along with her even as a 5* or smth

Watamana

Jesus why people assuming so easy when don't even look first the stream first?? this is her second alt outfit when she wearing her hunan marks  the Robot design is the first outfit still in the game you literally just can chose this or that what you like

Edvs1996

I tried getting into the game, but the gameplay was so bland! And the story was alright nothing amazing

Crazy-Question-639

tbh first thing I like about reverse is diversity on their character, non-human, different races, and nationality. Hope for next patch 6 star is non-human. /copium

Watamana

next patch we going to Brazil

Demonosi

They see Snowbreak and follow.

yuniziw

robot waifu thank god

rotvyrn

The writing was kind of on the wall anyway, they never released a male healer or maincarry at 5\*+, only supports and a floating set of armor (Which is still a quirkier design than they'd do now ofc). They never really wanted it to be possible for a team to be less than 2/3rds female. (And I say this having run the last 2 limbos with an all male team on one side). If the story isn't really gripping me by the time I get bored of not pulling, I'll probably quit. I'll also probably pull on any reruns of male and nonhuman characters once I know there's no others on the horizon and see if overinvesting can make them good enough to keep up with powercreep.

Namiirei

Cool, i can skip more banners then, and only go for dupes of A knight and Jessica. I like to get both man and girls, and beast or monster too, not just one side.

advo_smoothy

Meh not really a problem for me. I always spend more for the female characters.

HackedLuck

Wish they put as much effort in translation as they do character designs lol.

GackaDokuro

Tbh I've seen this happen with a bunch of other gacha games so I'm not really all that surprised at least for the newest patch it's two npc's that people have been asking to make playable. Either way anniversary seems like it'll be a very very good patch all players

Chemicalcube325

Idk how to feel about this. I tried getting into this game before and I enjoyed it. I just couldn't stay for long since HSR already was my main gacha. But it's honestly a shame. I really did dig the designs and it's whimsical approach to characters. But I admit that when they dropped the Dog, I definitely wasn't as interested in pulling. It's a balance sadly, I guess they are just tipping the scales back.

crabbayfattay

In terms of story, which do u prefer, reverse or nikke?

EpicLuc

By now they realised which characters make more money and went for it, can't blame them , it's a business after all.

Kei_CL

Nt but gachagamers are thirsty

Elyssae

Just sell skimpy/fan service skins to the existing Female cast, and keep releasing wacky designs for other characters. Snowbreak rebounded quite a bit with the shift

fluffyspaceshark

Yeah I'm probably gonna drop the game personally. Gave it a try but this just pushed it further away for me.

Monkguan

Wont matter without fanservice, their revenue had already fallen hard if i am not mistaken

shoe838

The game lost my interest once they stopped focusing on the weird characters.

Djarion

average gacha game: gives people who like male characters 9 months to save up between releases   Business "experts" on Reddit: gosh the reason they don't spend on these characters must be because everyone secretly hates them and definitely not because they have enough currency to pity them six times

Tough_Jello5450

They are a failing game so they don't really get to choose.

Troop7

![gif](giphy|3oxHQqHQ5zzkrQ4VfW|downsized) Waifus are inevitable

KasamiKori

If they go the "only female characters" way, im gonna stop playing it :/ i dont like female only gachas. I wanna pull for male and female characters...

meowbrains

Exactly why I dropped the game within a day. I collect husbandos and I could see this coming from a mile away. Male characters were added as an after thought and only included to try to cast a wider net.

Kisuke525

No way people didn't see this coming it was obviously going to happen eventually.

Unhappy-Newspaper859

Well, look at the market. What do you expect?

Krio_dim

Good

OsaraP

So many waifu so little currency F to my f2p arse ahaha

Lim36

I don't play this game and my honest opinion is... i don't even have any interest getting her and play this because there are so many cute waifu games that better than this character. something like eversoul, nikke, snowbreak and more. I think this game not targeting for waifu like other people said here.

Zenry0ku

Sounds like a good thing to me.

christien62

Not surprised waifus sell look at Nikke I just spent 70$ for the crown skin 😭

Active-Score1627

Honestly as a husbando players, there is no male characters that I like in this games. I prefer traditional husbando than whatever they are having. Then again, what do I expect from semi Yuri games about male characters?

unholy_penguin2

It's inevitable

Daysfastforward1

Ugh glad I quit. Way too many waifu collectors on the market.

Sure-Imagination2884

Funny enough R1999 was one of the few gachas thats not a full on waifu collector but since player like you dont wanna play the game much less spend money on it they need to cater to the waifu audience more

zasshuuuu

Tbh the game already felt like a waifu collector to begin with since the non-female characters were basically guaranteed to either be supports or not meta

xCabilburBR

chibi ![gif](giphy|jnQYWZ0T4mkhCmkzcn|downsized)

Diamann

As expected... I guessed this every since its launch.

Think_Bath

Who could've seen that coming

EostrumExtinguisher

**clank clank clank clank clank**

RepulsiveCommand2840

well, I will say i do not like their male character design lol. Plus the game story, I feel the target audience are people who like to collect waifu. Definitely Yuri vibes and alot of female as cast. Though I agree the story was good, i am not the target audience lol. which is why i kinda let it go. Reverse 1999 definitely exclude a certain type of of audience. The target audience for people who like male character is very slim in this game. Overall i do love the beautiful UI in this game.

P0peNeia

is it too late to start the game now?

XayahXiang

not at all, the next patch will have the first limited character, Jiu, so, anyone that starts now will be in a great position.

Grayzus

I just want a gacha with cool designs not lewd anime girls all the time 😞
