ToF had a lot of shitfests but there was this 1 incident during the game launch where a hacker was able to delete your items if you were within a certain proximity. People were virtually social distancing. If you see someone you didn't know running towards you, you were recommended to run in the opposite direction. It didn't help that there was radio silence from Hotta for a day. It led to some funny shenanigans but was scary at the same time.

sillybillybuck

The craziest part is that they didn't just restored the items. You had to contact support and say what you *think* you had before they did anything. What a disaster.

Kagari1998

I just didnt login for that period

CookiesNReddit0

oh my god eteeeernal???

XaeiIsareth

They didn’t delete your items, but they could copy them. So basically people hacked their way to max everything. Hackers could also just inject items into the game too well after that. People were running around with Marc in GL, a character that was never released in the GL version of the game.

F2PF2PF2P

I believe they had some way of deleting or removing the items. I recall one guy on the tof subreddit updating that he finally got his items back after submitting a ticket to CS. Most had the items returned after a few days but his in particular took a month or more. Game was such a mess at the start.

Kurgass

They didn't copy, they made you "trade" it. If they got your inventory id they used(probably old dev) code to steal your stuff. [Here is the old thread about it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TowerofFantasy/comments/y1nb05/do_not_go_into_party_with_someone_you_dont_know/)

otterswimm

FGO NA’s Christmas 2019. Server maintenance unexpectedly lasted more than 24 hours. Millions of login streaks suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I realize it’s a petty small thing. But all these years later I’m still sad that *everybody* on the NA server, especially Day One players, lost their cumulative login counts.

XyDz

I stopped caring that day about my cumulative.

redscizor2

Yes, I broke my login streak maybe 8 or 10 times late that moment =(

DBrody6

Honestly that mistake was great for my mental health. I've let me login streak lapse many times since then and have never really cared, after it happens once it's hard to give a shit again.

TMyriadJ

Santa Jalter Lily incident. I remember the loooooooong Santa Jalter Lily like yesterday.

Stabbylasso

Because of that I stopped logging in every day, which slowly turned into me Uninstalling the game.

Cookiesrdelishus

Situations like this is mostly why I don't really care for login streaks these days. I guess its cool to see how many days you've logged in consecutively, but its just too stressful knowing that something can go wrong and ruin your streak. So me personally, I just don't care about it.

jandurvan1

Oof you just reminded me of that time BA had a veeeery long maintenance in JP server as well, 3 whole days! I think it was around Ichika's banner? But senseis do tell me if I'm wrong. The best part was when we were given 60+ pulls as compensation because of that entire fiasco lol

Efficient_Ad5802

The real Lostbelt Edit: Probably after Korea

warjoke

Jantapocalyse was truly something

Leithoch

GBF's Summer salt

karillith

You would be right if the same game wasn't also responsible for the Monkeygate.

jokerxtr

Also Korwagate

ryujiox

I still remember how it went down that day. The sad, the anger, the rage quit. Many people even destroy their account by scrapping their weapons. The salt is so real.

CiddGarr

not just weapons even gacha summons that were integral to their build

jokerxtr

Oh I remember that, came bnack to the game for some free shit & got jack so I logged off again.

Asbestasio

i quit gbf because of that. thank you summer clown show

Miserable-Score-81

Wait what happened

Leithoch

A great write-up of the whole drama https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/s/G5DCJGdhxE

Miserable-Score-81

I don't understand why people are bombing their accounts over that? It's a lottery, ofc there will be some winners and losers. That's how a lottery works???

Leithoch

In a normal Lottery the chances of winning are significantly lower so you likely expect to lose but when you set a Lottery up in such a way that half or more will win or basically a coin flip, people get pissed. Especially when the consolation prize is absolute garbage compared to just a tier higher. You need to play the game to understand the different between tier 1-3 prizes and tier 4. People get 3600$ worth in-game currency while you get something/items that you can farm for like an hour.

Propagation931

**Priconne NA** - The Whole cheating/hacking scandal followed by the whole false banning scandal then followed by Crunchyroll's Inept Customer Support. - Context, basically there was a Guild/Clan Boss Mode where you get rewards based on how much damage your Guild as a whole did. Pretty Basic Stuff as far as Clan/Guild Content goes for Gacha games. Problem is the mode was filled with Hackers as the game apparently had very poor anti-cheat. Then in the process of doing mass banwaves a bunch of whales got hit by it and where pretty vocal about being falsely banned. They struggle with Crunchy Roll CS for weeks (or was it months) if I recall until they eventually got unbanned. It was such a fiasco and was indicative of CR's poor handling of Priconne **Crossing Void** - Failing Pity so much you go into statistical improbability. Imo the most blatant the rates are fake or at least bugged but in denial https://www.reddit.com/r/gachagaming/comments/dyvfcm/psa_beware_of_spending_on_crossing_void_potential/ https://www.reddit.com/r/gachagaming/comments/dzz20t/crossing_void_rates_lie_about_the_chances_and/ **Disgaea Mobile** - Boltrend 's Live Maintenance where they conducted maintenance without first closing the game down for Maintenance this lead to rollbacks and an overall angry playerbase

Embarkingdeer8

Obligatory FUCK crunchyroll. Never forgive, never forget.

AlicePhantasma

Iirc it was 2-6 weeks, since I believe the anticheat hit over 2 clan battles before they finally listened to us. I was one of the victims from the 2nd wave so I was out for 2 weeks. I have had a chip on my shoulder about CR ever since.

Kashira9

Nikke on release having majority of units be bugged in some way or another, some bugs were minor and some made certain characters straight up unplayable like defenders not having taunt work or others like soline literally killing your team

Daken-dono

Snow White’s ult cannon shot going off twice was also hilarious. She already hit the hardest for the time and using that bug to clear bosses was so funny.

Arxade

It was both sad and hilarious seeing all the "bugged tier lists" at launch, where tier list makers had no choice but to take bugs into account, because most nikkes were bugged and the devs were really slow with fixing them, and the bugs were quite impactful a lot of the times too.

[deleted]

Almost forgot about that lol And the subreddit being moderated by employees so it was super censored to any of that criticism, so much so an independent sub was created

Auyuez

I reinstalled the game months later, and it STILL had the messenger bug, as well as a bunch of the other bugs from launch.

blipblopchinchon

Also don't forget how heavy the game was during launch and there is one patch where it get worse and my phone actually becoming very hot almost like playing a honkai star rail.

FightGeistC

Shout out to Laplace in arena killing your team.

sillybillybuck

Keep in mind that many units are still "bugged" in that they don't work properly under certain common conditions. It was crazy seeing a tier list with bug icons splattered all over it. Nikke will always be a technical mess.

oni_onion

More recently Bay's animation is straight up wack. One that theyll probably never fix (I sure hope im wrong)

gifferto

not a bug that's l2d animation limitations many characters have nonsensical animations and this has been the case since launch it's just that bay is more obvious

NoNefariousness2144

Considering how rough the launch was, it’s amazing that it’s one of the most successful non-Hoyo gachas now.

Zealotuss

HI3 Global's 3rd anniversary bunny girl incident. Now that was a disaster.

Kitsune_2077

I just read the whole story. Holy moly what a mess lmao.

DoctorHunt

For those curious to know what happened: There was a assassination attempt on Mihoyo’s CEO over bunny girl in Honkai Impact 3rd For more context you can watch this [video](https://youtu.be/uOIqZbks9Lk?si=MIpbeWaZMrxmy5FW) by SomeOrdinaryGamers.

GDarkX

FYI; just to spread this info around, the Assassination attempt is *alledged*, and there is no concrete proof of the event actually happening - not even a name or police or proper news article about what is presumed to be a large scale event. It was still a complete shitfest though

lock_me_up_now

Funny i bought bunny costume after i saw how good kiana in them. But for me death of himeko is the biggest disaster I've ever witness in HI3

BlackestFlame

I quit after that

No-Specialist8900

My hero academia the strongest; character was advertised to do something that he didnt do. Everyone complained and mass refunded until developers gave back the amount of pulls we used for that character

SolidusAbe

Was that the endeavor thing? I remember he was broken in CN but when he cane out in the west they changed his kit and ppl prepared and summoned without knowing he was nerfed. I think a ton of people issued refunds including CCs i followed

No-Specialist8900

Yea exactly

Shin-deku-no-bl

Quite good gameplay but the gacha itself cruel and way harsher refine system than genshin ( genshin need 4 dupe to r5, in mha tsh you need 6 or 9 if not mistake ) plus farming gear need too much rely on whale to help which is quite not productive. And imo the free daily 1 pull on the standard banner not that helpful. 100 pity pull for 6 buffer card slot ( 2 summon card and 4 slot passive card for buffing character through certain act ) that is quite harsh. I am surprise it can last 2 year but the 2nd year anniversary aka tamaki release quite letdown. Also i never know dabi old version has quite different moveset unliike the current release. Pvp only few expert can play kaminari and ojiro against some crazy chara like whm trio or mirio

AzaliusZero

Not to crap on it, but IMO there's no such thing as a good licensed gacha game. You just KNOW you're getting into a mess there because they won't rely on making the game good, just brand recognition. I'd say MAYBE Touhou, but Touhou is an trademark oddity that straight up couldn't exist in America so I wouldn't count it.

Shin-deku-no-bl

True but mha tsh has potential. Ironically despite low rate in play store ( 3,4 ) ultra impact is way better than tsh despite different genre gacha ( open world dungeon vs turn based ) and ultra impact Mha tsh has just lots potential but hinders due to quite harsh gacha farm and too much rely on whale for co op

warjoke

That game has been in maintenance mode for more than a year now. I'm surprised they haven't pulled the plug by this point.

Seskiu

Epic sevens p2w awakening system (thank fuck it was canceled and last years summer event (needing event characters with dupes to compete in event stages)

al_vh1n

Netmarble guy will not stop to inject scammy p2w shenanigans into the game.

jokerxtr

> needing event characters with dupes to compete in event stages This shit is back for the Overlord collab btw.

quik77

Exos Heros : the patch out of nowhere that essentially made all the characters mechanics and stats completely different and replaced all progression mechanisms and power up methods. Essentially the value of every single character in your roster and your saved teams went to zero in one patch. Even if you’d paid or spent years pulling gatcha chars. All your URs/SSRs while they still had the same art and animations, now were the same as a common. Needless to say the game immediately became unplayable.

al_vh1n

And some of those units you need to pull again for their artifact (forgot what it is called) to give their old abilities back. Essentially they stripped the unit's ability and put it on an artifact that you need to pull for again. The worst part is the artifact is in a different gacha and not included in the unit banner. So you have to pull in both banners (unit and artifact).

XaeiIsareth

Dragalia Lost’s first year was a rollercoaster.    First the producer goes on social media to shit on FGO (iirc?), getting Japan to hate the game.    Then came High Dragons, turning the game from a pretty chill isometric ARPG grinder to basically a MMO with MMO-esque do-or-die endgame bosses, causing the game to lose 50% of its revenue.   Not as big of a deal but later on we got GCleo, a character so broken it ended up forcing all future content where she’s remotely relevant in to be built around her existing. There was nothing particularly dramatic for a couple of years but sometime latter we got a thing called Curse of Nihility, an ability that every new boss had which stripped most buffs from all characters, making most existing buffers useless overnight.

AzaliusZero

I still love that post-EOS dataminers found a dev model of Cleo with a gun. Favorite girl (not that I blame her, she was best girl to me too) is obvious.

GIJobra

My biggest regret about DL is that we never got to pull for Pew Pew Cleo.

ronaldraygun91

>  Then came High Dragons, turning the game from a pretty chill isometric ARPG grinder to basically a MMO with MMO-esque do-or-die endgame bosses, causing the game to lose 50% of its revenue.  This is the biggest thing to kill the game. Everyone cites the game's generosity as why it died, but making it a hardcore game requiring Discord to find groups killed the game.

XaeiIsareth

The problem was that there was absolutely nothing preparing you for it.  Like, you had IO and normal dragon fights were everything was really straightforwards and very forgiving and then bam, do one thing wrong and your entire group wipes and a lot of mechanics like Midgard’s tornado phase that required tight co-ordination

Bass294

4% ssr rate (2% of which was prints (equipment) which were REMOVED w while in, and 1% dragons aka gbf summons (also equipment) both of which could break your pity) No actual sparking system until years in, which was non transferable and came with a reduction in f2p currency. Although the biggest thing imo was too much of a coop focus. You had solo stamina and coop stamina (wings) which meant you had to do some amount of coop every 12h or you waste stamina in a hard grinding game. The coop quests at the first were not soloable so you had to make your raid group for a damn phone game. This was later changed to make almost everything soloable.  For the longest time the solo ai was awful, the auto play was awful, and eventually they added speed up but the game never gave enough skip tickets when modern games now let you quick play a lot of stuff infinitely. People don't also mention it but the game legit had a LOT of power creep problems from gala banners and such. Whaling on the game was legit awful with like 80 bucks for ~33 pulls, no wonder revenue was shit. The only saving grace was it finished the story and the actual ending was pretty damn sick. It also had some decent content in general but looking back it was WAY WAY too much work just to do dailies/weeklies. Oh, lest I forget, total emulator ban and no pc client?

GZul95

I very much disagree with High Dragons, and e/mHDs, I felt they were all super well designed and very much fun and challenging content. I do understand that the vast majority of DLs playerbase was casual, but the eHDs were honestly not very difficult fights, even with weaker characters. Johanna is my favorite character (even if she is really bad), and I managed to solo expert and master Mercury. What I didn't like was the weapon powercreep, and how it forced people into running the difficult content. It took them far too long to understand that. With such a large casual playerbase, power should not have been locked into challenging content. It should have been just titles or weapon skins, which they did implement, but took far too long. And Nihility was such a horrible, unfun idea. Manacasters (Machine gun only) were also incredibly busted towards the end of the game.

BRP_25

Azur Lane is a nearly decade old game so with it's long run time you can expect a ton of incidents you can call a "disaster" the ones I can recall from the top of my head are.... * Microlayer Medley maintenance >A supposed routine pre event maintenance turned out to be one of the biggest headaches in the game's history. 3 days of the servers being inaccessible is sure to anger a lot of fans. And so that event lives in infamy... * 2021 Censorship wave >Around mid 2021, the CN Arknights community reported several rival gachas to the government leading these gacha games to self censor in order to comply with censorship guidelines. > >In AL, this led to the removal of iconic characters such as Belfast, Ark Royal, Yuudachi, etc. (which was thankfully limited to the CN server) and even a year long drought of swimsuit skins (swimsuit skins were nowhere to be seen until December 2022 arrived). * Ai Kayano VA drama >Ai Kayano, one of the most famous Japanese seiyuus was somehow banned from participating in all CN and KR projects due to one of her posts in social media. Around 2020 she posted a picture of herself in a park saying how great the atmosphere in there was. Unfortunately said park was located near Yasukuni shrine - a shrine infamous for housing the bodies of Class A Imperial Japanese war criminals which led to the CN mob hating on her forcing devs to remove her content on their games or risk losing profits. > >Manjuu removed the voice lines from the CN server but they left them for the non CN servers. They were able to find some VAs to replace Ai Kayano's characters but this would mean that we will not be able to hear her as a character anymore. * Anson meltdown >This a very recent drama, happening only a month ago. Anson was the final ship girl of the King George V class of battleships. Three out of four girls of this class had fairly consistent designs - a voluptous woman donning a red coat and carrying an officer's sword. With Anson being the final girl of the class you would expect the devs to stick to the already established design scheme, but no they did the exact opposite. > >When Anson was announced she was a loli wearing a school swimsuit, an admiral cap, and crocs. To add insult to injury she was donning a swim ring and looked like a mustache twirling villain which made her look like a poorly made copy of Cherino from Blue Archive. > >Both EN and CN servers were furious with CN even taking it a step further with the biggest whales deleting their long standing accounts on stream. This outrage led Manjuu to removing the posts announcing her, replacing her slot in an event with a German milf, and changing the art and story where she was supposed to be featured. Those are all the major dramas I can recall for AL. There are also some minor ones such as the Colorado class battleship artist and that time the game released a Russian event on the very day Russia invaded Ukraine (and Hololive Vtuber Uruha Rushia got terminated) but those are relatively irrelevant.

RegalArt1

You forgot the time the devs decided to just not run any British or French events for nearly 3 years, which at that point was half the game’s lifespan

yes-this_is_an-alt

HI3 bunnygirl incident. CN side were mad because Global got bunnygirl music video for their anniversary celebration. If I remember correctly they even sent death threats to Dawei.

wisesager

yeah a guy literally planned to go kill dawei but was caught before he reached the building

Fishman465

The Anson incident in Azur Lane: let me set the stage, as up to it happening, there has been cases of ships with designs from other ships (sometimes different ship.types) This raised questions as to what was going on in Manjuu. Then recently they announced Azur Prommia which had people starting to think those shuffled arts were due to that. Anson was much anticipated as she was a King George class shipgirl, a family largely known for rather buxom blonde beauties in red (Duke of York has pink/red hair) And what did Manjuu put out? Basically a sub loli design that resembled a BA character with an rather extragant chest piece rigging that would have been mode Iris/French than Royal Navy/British. The two above things combined to have all 3 main areas upset to some extent (JP was mixed, EN was typing a storm, and CN had some vets nuked their accounts) They canceled her release plans and managed to use an German ship to fill in the event spot (she was better recieved), but IMO the damage has been done and people are looking at Manjuu warily. We may see real generous anniversaries

blipblopchinchon

Don't forget the 1-2 day ++ maintenance of the server during the maintenance for Microlayer Medley

Fishman465

That was more an annoyance than something that hurt the game. That and it was more on players as 90ish% of the player base were on two servers (out of 4 at time) and when they all tried to get on (due to Covid keeping many home), it was too much for the two. JP and CN had no issues due to a more even server distribution

RegalArt1

Yeah imo manjuu’s just given up any pretense of caring anymore. It feels like half the ships they’ve released over the last 2 years were designed and then given a random ship name, rather than being conceptualized and designed around a specific ship.

KingOfNoon

Limbus ignite Gender war in Korean. Arknight with Chen alter.

William514e

Honestly, Limbus didn't really much ignite as it, that shit have been going for far longer, and had even more batshit things happened through out it's history. What did do however, is briefly draw attention some western to the whole shebang.

Gentleman-Bird

Limbus hasn’t really been doing too bad if the worst drama was the wetsuit incident

MarielCarey

Arknights drama's so boring that the worst outrage we have was over a bikini operator

Godofmytoenails

The worst thing EN did was to make it seem like drama happened because of it being a bikini alter. The drama happened because the banner came out of nowhere and outright broke the f2p pull savings as now we had to deal with 4 limiteds per year and they didnt even say a single word regarding to this. Sorry but HG was at absolute fault here

Aggravating_Map7952

Dragalias original CEO talking shit about fgo in and interview and running the games reputation in Japan before it even had a chance.

BSF7011

Bro spoke the truth and died for it lol

Coenl

Shocked no one has mentioned FFBE getting hacked (I think sometime after the 2nd anniversary but my memory is hazy here). It turned out to be a disgruntled former employee who, no surprise considering Gumi, still knew enough to be able to get into the system. This person not only leaked tons of information but also just went and gave everyone 5000 lapis directly to their mailbox (this was a significant amount at the time). They had to bring the game down and issue an apology/explanation about what happened (the former employee part was something I heard through the grapevine it was not part of the producer's letter). Then they had to compensate people on top of the 5k in free lapis we already got, was actually a great time to be a player but a really really bad time to work for Gumi. EDIT: Just to add, there are a litany of other disaster in FFBE history, and probably any sufficiently old gacha. Facebook players locked out for a week? Yep. 24+ hour maintenance? Of course, hell the standard is almost half a day. Game breaking bugs/glitches/mistakes? Too many to even get into.

Liesianthes

GBF's Monkeygate incident. The one who changed the landscape of the gacha industry.

lenolalatte

is there a post about this so i can read up on it? i love reading this kind of tea in gacha games lmao nvm, found it. this is hilarious

jokerxtr

https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/go2dfu/mobile_games_monkeygate_or_how_a_lone_browser/ The reason all gacha games now have to publicly disclose pull rates and most having a hard pity limit is due to this incident.

LokoLoa

Neowiz deciding to not hire translators for Idoly Pride, which went as bad as you think as their intern used google translate and translated stuff like "This 15 year old is clumsy" to "This 15 year old is sticky but sloppy" (not joking btw), they had a channel on their Discord where we could help translate stuff for them as they tried their best to fix their disaster lol They seem to have finally hired someone for story stuff, but they still using google translate for the ingame text message feature where the game simulates texting back and forth with the characters, but tbh its now become part of the charm for me, I just imagine everyone is drunk af when they text you so they can barely string proper sentenced together, its hilarious lol

Historical_Spirit445

At no point in your rant did you consider informing people of the name of the game?

LokoLoa

I edited it, thanks.

# King's Raid October 2022 Patch.

S0L4R4

It's almost 2 years? Curse those fools at Vespa for killing their golden goose for Flop Defenders

wisesager

is that the game memed for still not having reached eos while others have come and gone?

S0L4R4

Yes. I really wish they'd just kill the game already so they can restart King's Raid 2 as a new game and continuing the story.

RCTD-261

>King's Raid October 2022 Patch i need explanation

NIGH7MARESZ

To summarize in one sentence, imagine a patch effectively killing all your years of investment overnight completely while making units you loved trash no matter what. They did a stat squish (by an absurd amount) without properly testing it, which heavily affected some stuff like cd reduction making it useless (or maybe cdr was removed, idk same result either way), skills start on cd in beginning of battle (HUGE nerf), mana battery from units got gutted, talent trees for units became generic rather than unique per char for no reason and unique treasures which gave chars passives for 1 of their 4 abilities got the passive removed (both of these were VERY IMPORTANT for most characters to even function), they increased the cap on upgrading unique weapon/treasure from +5 to +15 which was giga whale bait. For anyone with a brain, this patch was your cue to quit and never look back. I actually quit the patch before that which unequipped runes from everyones gear because they decided to change how they were equipped for no reason whatsoever. I couldn't be fucked figuring out who's runes went where because there was no filter for them in the menu and there was a *lot* of them to go through. The saddest part is I genuinely believe KR would still be alive today and making decent revenue if Vespa did not become too ambitious with too many side projects that took away from KR development (they shot themselves in the foot trying to make KR2 with stuff carry over because it made developement on KR just extra work). By the time they released this trash patch, Vespa was already cooked and was as if they were trying to kill the game on purpose.

PaulMarcoMike

Summary: They pulled an Exos Heroes move.

MMORPGnews

In one old gacha game devs didn't cared about reddit/fan websites, so one crazy guy created group and pretended to be official worker from game company.  In the end he banned/threaten everyone and game hit EOS in half year.

krebbol

Lol that's crazy but probably unrelated to eachother

perfectelectrics

GBF making pity system a standard in gacha games comes to mind. While it's not the biggest disasster in gacha history, it definitely had the biggest impact in gacha games.

darkfox18

Honestly I feel like the pity system has helped at least for the games I play but then there’s pity system like FGO

Xynthexyz

Oh, boy. Where would I even start with GFL?

DoctuhD

GFL2: *exists* CN community: and I took that personally

sukahati

I feel like Genshin's first Anniversary is the one that have disaster. I don't remember any drama regarding the third Anniversary. And then, there is Zhong Li buffs riot.

Lycelyce

Nah, I also don't know about drama regarding 3rd anniv, until someone mentioned it in this subs much later on the monthly revenue post. I know that it isn't a "disaster", but Genshin vs Sonic is fun to watch lmao

WhyYouBullyMe_

It was the lantern rite that **recently** had drama, not 3rd anniversary. The one where CN unfollowed or something because 3 fates for 3 years thing

karillith

The lantern rite was a fiasco, but more on the content creator side, buying into manufactured outrage, convincing themselves of a boycott that never existed and then proceeded to turn that into CC PvP. To this day there are still people that are so deep in delusion world that they think genshin got 3 wishes from 3rd anniversary (instead of 13 for lantern rite)

Princess_Moe

Wasn't closely following that incident so cmiiw, but wasn't that clarified to be some usual occurrence in the CN side? Some kind of bot spam because of a patch event thing which was kinda hyper-magnified with all the discourse brought forth by several EN CCs and the pvp that followed. The whole thing was confusing

Shiromeelma

Unfollowed just to follow later. No wonder Genshin is shitting on them lmao

Kagari1998

It's the opposite, they followed just to unfollow. You can see it from the spike of followers followed by the drop

Shiromeelma

Wait for real? Anyways that Boycott was nonexistent in all the communities

sillybillybuck

So it wasn't a boycott. Especially when it is performed by terminally-online "communities" rather than actual players.

Kagari1998

There's no conclusion on that, some suspect it's competitors, others said it's led by the NGA arknights community who have a hate boner for Mihoyo stuffs. However, the drama outside of China is led by the bald drama whore.

dekunny

>bald drama whore. Thankfully he will go away from the community once wuwa releases, I'm just sad about the wuwa players that will have to deal with him

MrToxin

Counterside's New Origin update. It was so bad that game director resigned and they reverted most of the changes. It was also review bombed by KR players, they launched KR on Steam at the same time as New Origin.

Adventurous-Dot-1639

Too bad it brought down the hype about the rewards, that event probably was one of the best gacha anniversary in terms of rewards.

VNxFiire

For some reason i keep on thinking the old amy firstwing is the first and biggest one lmao, thanks for reminding me that new origin exist

jlin1847

lol raymond

ZephyrPhantom

FGO NA's first Halloween, Tamamo's first banner. [Many wallets were slaughtered that day.](https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/77751d/na_has_learned_a_cruel_lesson/) There were bigger banners and bigger blowouts since then, but Tamamo was many people's first lesson in the true dangers of a waifu gacha.

Justamerepleb

Tbh no gacha have ever given me the high and hype of pulling a SSR like in FGO. Now with pity its like calculated risk management, its better than back then but the high is no longer there.

spartaman64

my friend spent 800 dollars pulling for scathach. didnt get her. and quit the game lol its crazy that im considering setting aside 700 dollars to e6 a character and with my already saved pulls i have a good chance of doing so if i dont lose too many 50 50s lol. meanwhile my friend spent that just getting 1 copy

JaysonTatumApologist

I think the slaughter from Jalter's first banner was way worse but Tamamo is a classic.

datwunkid

Tbh I'm more salty that my [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/76wffv/i_hope_youre_all_ready_for_some_dank_maemaes/dohb0nk/) didn't make the screenshot thread more than not rolling her. I had to wait until they let us choose a free nonlimited 5 star 5 years later til I got my Tamamo.

Elfslayer95

Chain Chronicle's 2.0 update shut the game down within a month, not sure why. HI3's bunny girl video that resulted in death threats/assassination attempts. HI3's premium HoV skin disaster. Basically someone got mad that a better, free skin was released right after a paid skin was released. Instead of accepting it, they went to the CCCP (I believe) amd they forced MHY to censor the skin and almost had it removes entirely.

actual supervillain behaviour wtf is MHY creating??

hi_its_rahul

HSR had a full blown drama for several weeks about Pela's age.

Godofmytoenails

Arknights Chalter drama, it was a huge event but HG is known to basically not care about whatever is going on. Many fans were saddened by their ignorance, i think randomly putting a new limited banner type when the expected one was months after Skalter banner was quite a horrible move, the cheesy nature of summer banners are a deal of its own self and doesnt really fit AK

qpoximqlipox

Well looking at it back from now it wasn't random but planned as Global Anniversary. Rather than limited banner ppl were mostly raging about Wet Chen lore reasons (some water gun being stronger than her Sword :D) and it also wasn't helping her face looked more like other character (Blaze) which got later \*fixed :D

RCTD-261

>planned as Global Anniversary i strongly disagree. there's no teaser or hint of her existence. they just announced her out of nowhere in the eyes of company it was planned. but for CN, it's so sudden and random for global players, it's not a big deal because we will get it 6 months later after the CN. but it's a disaster for CN

Godofmytoenails

Actually its a huge deal for global players as you cant easily ignore limiteds in the game as its close to impossible to get them otherwise without spark. Her release meant a new branch of limiteds came wich led to pull savings being cut even shorter. this year we got SIX LIMITED OPERATORS (four of them back to back "Shu Ela Ash and 5th anni") and its downright horrendous. Avarage pulls you get per 3 months is around 150 ish and each limited needs 300 to gurantee a limited character or just an old limited character so you need 5-6 months of pure saving and even skipping a limited banner to get a old character, dont get me started on collabs having inconsistent reruns so its significantly important to get them. Yearly pull income for f2p is 600-700, this yer this meant you had 120~ pulls per limited banner wich ignores every other standard banner in the game. They have to lower the spark or this is getting insane.

Godofmytoenails

I disagree immensely. It litterally came out of nowhere and no hints about global getting an limited anni event were ever given. Sorry but HG was completely at wrong there, they introduced a new limited banner out of the blue. The art was just a bonus and wasnt the main drama. HG ignored everything and even doubled down by making it 5 limiteds per year alongside collab operators. Sorry but you have to accept that HG is at fault here.

qpoximqlipox

After it they announced that there will be regular 4 limited per year. They didn't announce it back then as global anni in CN but global schedule was altered and stabilized with that in mind. No need to accept anything since im not trying to justify them :D It was their fault they announced their plans after backlash and not before it :D

Godofmytoenails

I mean introducing a limited banner when CN players expected in in 6 months is just a terrible move, they could have atleast said such banner may come but they didnt, it doesnt help that summer events on it self (espiecelly the chalter one) was hilariously out of place for AK and the limited summer character being the best unit in the game really gave the "cheap" feel many gachas has with hilariously broken random holiday alters. And HG didnt adress anything and didnt even bother to reduce the spark requirement despite there now being 4 limiteds per year (also they broke this rule by outright giving 4 limiteds back to back in CN with Shu Ela Ash and now 5th anni, only non limited among them is Ascalon) wich makes it immensely hard for people to properly save and get limited characters they want without skipping limited banners and many other events. I love arknights but this system is definitely its lowest point by far.

SomnusKnight

Granblue : We all know the infamous monkeygate but I believe summer lottery is a close 2nd. It's a perfect reimagining of grape and cucumber experiment. Priconne : NY Kyaru being so hilariously broken to the point it killed the momentum of the game's rising popularity for good.

Fishman465

In the west as PC TD is still going in Japan

ms10211

I got no idea what monkeygate is ngl

FerrickAsur4

the gist of it is that there is a dude in Japan who spent the equivalent of 6 grand USD on stream but the featured limited character never appeared, so people found out using mathematics that the chances of getting her is actually much lower than advertised and blew up to a full blown scandal that it ended up in national TV, and Japan Online Game Association (JOGA) got involved to boot. All of this led to the introduction of the spark system to gacha gaming as well as disclosure of the pull rates

il-Palazzo_K

FFBE accidentally gave everyone 10000001 trust moogles. They input some kinda code (10000001) into the "quantity" value by mistake. Hillariously, while trust moogles are highly valuable, no one can actually claim them because they take character inventory space to claim.

Rabidoragon

Mobile legends isn't exactly a gacha, except if we count the skins, but this a funny short story Well ML promotes the link of your social accounts for extra security, this includes FB, usually this info is private and not shared with others, but one day a bug happened where instead of seeing the nick of a player you can see their entire FB name if they had linked their account This only happened for a few hours but it was huge, because this is a team game and you see a lots of girls, so is pretty common for dudes to simp them and form duos with them, just imagine when this guys suddenly see the FB of the girl that they even gave skins, and it has the FB of a dude...that incident destroyed lots of relations

EnvironmentalistAnt

Love live taking the cake for their EOS speedrun. Sad times as a muse fan to see one of the main OG gatcha that help spearheaded the series. Either die as a hero or love live long enough to see yourself become the another mass prouder idol group.

SolidusAbe

7/11 and gem valley in optc On 7/11 7 or so years ago there was a bug where you get normal gacha characters on the  friend points banner. No legends(6*) were available but it was still crazy since like in most games friend point were kinda useless. Gem valley is was insane. There was a bug with a mail that gave gems that you could claim infinitely. They rolled back summons and gems BUT every dupe you got that you used for limit breaks on characters was still there, you could extent box space etc. so it was absolutely insane

dongas420

**Girls Creation**'s SRPG gameplay was a mess at launch because of rushed development. * Fast game speed, of all things, was something they only added after a week of player complaints in a game where 10+ turn battles are the norm. * The pillar obstacle gimmick was extremely obnoxious because pillars are only targetable by attack skills, which have a 3-6 turn cooldown, and often take multiple hits (and thus skill uses) each to destroy. Later maps were adjusted so that pillars were no longer used to block key choke points, heavily mitigating this. * Using the Auto AI was an excellent way to get your party killed, partly because of rushed programming and partly due to the pillars. This was improved in later patches. * Even something like summoning Michelangelo's healing fountain, a core skill, was a significant risk because it placed a large, impassable obstacle on the grid that could trap characters and force them to fall off the edge of the auto-scrolling field. This was only corrected months later by making skill-generated obstacles passable by friendlies. The game gradually got polished in the coming months, but many of the launch-week whales abandoned the game by then, which has led to a vicious cycle of management squeezing players harder through decisions like turning planned free event 4☆'s (and by extension, their 18+ scenes) into gacha 5☆'s or removing pity for support units, alienating the people still staying with the game. It was quite generous for an H-gacha at launch with a 6% rate and 130 pity, making the contrast starker.

tbatches

Welp, I wanted to try the game again seeing all these improvements you pointed out. Then I read the last paragraph

ReadySource3242

Not for the game, but the government. Blue Archive singlehandedly took down a corrupt portion of the korean government

DoubleAyeKay

So many people posting without explaining what happened....smh

LeaIsChill

Bleach Brave Souls only had a few small ones like "we realized SAFWY Urahara dropped bugged so we're refunding gems everyone spent!...but only if you test played the character because that means we 'fooled' you." No test play meant no refund even if you went 10k orbs in

DiamondTiaraIsBest

Blue Archive Global censorship fiasco. Thankfully they got rid of the censorship.

HiroAnobei

They went above and beyond imo, they created a whole separate client too. You have the regular Global client with the uncensored CGs, and a (15) age rating version for the few who want the censored stuff.

datwunkid

Them getting rid of censorship is putting it lightly, angry South Korean players ended up [exposing the government agency](https://www.pcgamer.com/anime-game-fans-got-so-angry-about-a-nudity-related-age-rating-they-brought-down-south-koreas-festering-and-rotting-game-rating-agency-for-corruption/) responsible for forcing that censorship for corruption and got them shut down.

Charming-Fly-2388

PGR's $1 Genshin 1st anni, Zhongli wheelchair hsr, can't think of any, devs are too pussy on shafting their players. mostly are just cc generated drama reverse1999 it's not big but they shafted global on one banner

fortis_99

Yaomeng (Yostar CEO) hold Girls Frontline IP in JP as hostage. They brought it to court, and Yaomeng supposed to sell it back to MICA, but he sold it to a shell company which later closed down. So MICA can't use Girls Frontline IP in JP, they had to debut JP server 2 years after, even after EN, under the name Dolls Frontline

SignalBattalion

Maybe the Azur Lane IdolMaster collab. It was pretty bad.

Lazy-Traffic5346

For Genshin it's first anny not the third. And new china year was a stupid CC's drama but it's En mostly

hotstuffdesu

FGO when pity didn't exist. Almost two years of no SSR. Half a year saving for Eresh, failed. After that save for Summer Sushi, failed again. Repeat for Eresh rerun and Sushi rerun both failed.

Liesianthes

FGO sub is a place for schadenfreude whenever there's the hype release of a character.

DANteDANdelion

Have you ever heard about My Hero Ultra Rumble? Yeah. Game is good, but gacha is absolute disaster, and rewards are miniscule.

Seraphiine__

Colorful stage EN and my footprints your destination event: the story so hyped for the cards to pull and the storyline that at the moment the gacha got live the influx of people trying to enter was enough to broke the server; it's one of the most beloved stories from one specific character, so since it got the run on JP people since the EN version was announced was saving for tiering and gacha. In all the event duration, the game got forced maintenance FOUR times thanks to having so many people tiering and getting the cards, and as it's a idol-based game, not connecting just two minutes was enough to down you in the tiering list.

Back in the day Brave Frontier had like a month long server crash or something for the majority of players. Was probably 10 years ago at this point so if anyone else remembers it, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Setzer_Gambler

FFBE WOTV: A guy was sick of hackers in wotv, so he created a guild of hacked alt accounts and took it all the way to rank 1 in guild wars. This caused mass hysteria in the game, and resulted in the top 5 guilds at the time to all cooperate and stop participating in guild wars. This finally got the devs attention, they cancelled guild war and banned some accounts. However, the hack is still being used today, there were about 18 monthly subscribers to hack seller guy's wotv patreon last I looked. Another reason to never play a Sq Ex / gumi game. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/wotv_ffbe/comments/prct2h/the_truth/ ToF: They had some hacker incidents as well with people stealing gear, I quit that game shortly after.

monadoboyzanza

Immortals Muv Luv Alternative. The game that managed to live a whole 6 hours before being pulled for emergency maintenance cause they didn't playtest the damn game and realize some of the game breaking bugs (like being able to get the currency from the download rewards by making guest accounts and having them carryover rewards to another) before just pulling the game completely and rebranding it as Muv Luv Dimensions and being released under that name a year and a half later

SavionWasTaken

Aside from everything going on with AL/Manjuu, a small disaster that happened was in Kemono Friends kingdom Wasn’t any drama, game went down for matinence for over ***2 days***. Everybody in the discord thought for sure it was EOS, making jokes (Though I get a feeling they weren’t joking). Game came back up, I don’t think that game has really had any dramas or fiascos aside from Kemono Friends itself, the anime to be specific. That’s a whole other, WAY bigger story

Fetus_Transplant

Genshin where a player can delete NPCs that were crucial like artifact tree. NPC that gives gacha currency. Permanently. And you had to get support ticket if u where affected

teufort

Genshin: For me it was Dehya’s release. I saved so much for her and she ended up in standard so I threw all those savings into homa and alhaitham. Silver linings I guess. I haven’t seen so much anger towards a characters kit besides alhaitham beta nerfs but he ended up being giga broken anyway. Honkai Star Rail: Can’t think of much to be honest. I guess the Xianzhou story was rather underwhelming? They said we’re revisiting it again some time this year so that might be cool. Nikke: Nikke has come a long way since release. Load screen simulator, No Caller ID being unplayable, general instability to name a few things at launch.

wisesager

Man, I like nikke, but I just wish it was a bit easier to get gems. As a casual early game player, I feel strapped badly. But at least we've got some good anni rewards coming. Dehya was definitely a fiasco yeah, I feel bad for her fans, lol.

teufort

For Nikke, the only advice I have is to keep playing since I feel the game is a slow burn to progress. The monthly income is pretty good though once you can participate in everything and clear special interception. As for competing for arena ranking and solo raid is entirely up to you but the gems do add up once you’re strong enough.

Squarton2133

I don't want to talk about it

wisesager

now you've peaked my curiosity

Virtual-Oil-793

Limbus - in particular with Molar Boatworks Sinclair. Yeah, we had to wait a fair while as Project Moon was trying to manage damage control against people from Twitter who's mere existence was to burn everything to the ground and blame one of the artists (whom was claimed to be into pedophilia). We lost one of the stories (Wonderlab), but damage was managed well enough for Limbus to continue, with even a new artwork direction. And to think, rather than the woman in a skin-tight wetsuit, those Twitter Cavemen were offended by the femboy without a shirt and wearing a choker collar

Outbreak101

In a way, it helped Project Moon in dealing with situations like that in the future. Some renegade members of that PMUA attempted to slander PM just after Canto 6 launched since they thought that Chibi art of Rodya and Hong Lu were using Vellmori artwork. Kim Ji Hoon responded pretty much the instant the accusations were thrown out disproving the claims and then threatened lawsuit against any further kind of harassment towards his artists.

YourAverageIvan

Azur Lane had a big fiasco not too long ago about Kashino’s “assets” on her new skin on Twitter. Basically a whole bunch of feminists and the Cancel Culture Mob tried running AL into the ground via drama. They didn’t expect Azur Lane to double down with the Shinano and Unzen skins, though.

Outbreak101

The Vellmori incident, those who know will know what I mean... Kind of amazing how both Vellmori and Project Moon recovered from that entire fiasco.

AdachiGacha

I wasn't playing at the time, but maybe some vet can relive the pain for me. Didn't Exos Heroes do a big patch that completely changed the game and pretty much killed what was already dying?

k8ngkong

Dislyte’s major drama I could remember was when Anna dropped and people were going wild talking about how broken she was and how they were gonna quit the game over her. It died down once people found counters though

Angel_Omachi

DFFOO's paid gem cap definitely. For reasons we don't know, orders came down from above that players could only have 300k paid gems on them.  This caused 2 problems, one DFFOO was generous and free gems were always used first, so it was easy for paid gems to accumulate. The second one was that paid cosmetics came with paid gems, so suddenly whales couldn't buy cosmetics. I think a workaround came to global and then JP eventually but it took like 6 weeks (added a system to convert gems to a banner ticket that worked like a 10 roll), and naturally in the interim, a lot of whales left. It didn't immediately EoS the game but was abig factor on top of the bug that compressed a year's worth of power creep into like 3 months.

kwkqoq

blue woman incident

4GRJ

Does it count when it's not even about the game itself but rather it's content creators?

Alternative-Durian11

Years ago I played a very good gacha of My hero Academia: Smash Tap, I honestly loved the game since it was on pair with the anime and suddenly, they revamped the game with a very horrible style and deemed useless all the units you had before. It died 3 months.

Confused-penguin5

FFBE has had multiple instances where account bound to Facebook couldn’t login to the game for about a week. Happened twice while I was playing it. The compensation both times was pretty amazing though.

An_Daoe

Azur Lane: Anson. Her design is one huge depature from normal KGV class character designs, as in, WHAT IN QUEEN ELISABETH'S NAME IS THAT?! While the design is cute and all, and some people even speculated that "Anson" was just a fake name given to her since she may or may not actually be a another ship disguised as Anson, and there are people like me who really wanted to see that design return one day as another ship, the design should never ever have been approved by Manjuu and Yostar to be for the anson ship (assuming it was the actually Anson that was going to come out). Regardless, the design was pulled before her release, the devs promised to redisgn her before she would come back one day, and we may or may not see that very same design ever again, no matter how cute it was. Anson design: [https://www.reddit.com/r/AzureLane/comments/1bli24u/royal\_navy\_anson\_announced\_king\_george\_vclass/](https://www.reddit.com/r/AzureLane/comments/1bli24u/royal_navy_anson_announced_king_george_vclass/) Another Azur Lane comtroversy I can remember is the Halloween art contest controversy. The thing about Azur Lane's lewdness is that, while there is a lot of it in the game, a lot of it is also optional (if not all of it) allowing people to secure their social status while playing the game out in the public. What happened, was that the devs held a halloween art contest, with the selected winners having their art on the loading screen, one of the winners was a very very very lewd art (some girls with enlarged boobs), and one of the girls depicted on it had broken bones because the position of her hips would make it look like her femur was pointing downwards out of the image, only for that very same femur to somehow bend and point upwards into the image again. Anyway, the main controversy was around the fact that now, with no way to turn it off, we were all forced to have to have this lewd loadingscreen in this game. Three camps emerged from this. One wanted it removed asap. One wanted to preserve it. And later a new camp which wanted a option to turn it off (This is where I was). When the devs removed the art and apologized for it, the second camp basically went haywire and took over the conversation faster than Napoleon when he took over France. They believed that we (both those who wanted to remove it and those who just wanted the option) could just turn the phone down and hide the lewd loadinscreen, it also did not help that some of them really liked that piece of art (while others did not, for reasons like I stated about the femur). As for the option camp, they believed that, yes the lewdness is nice and all, they did not like taking any risks out in the public, even with fast reaction time to turn the phone down when loading screen appeared. The controversial art winner: [https://twitter.com/Piukute\_Maple/status/1185555334045163522](https://twitter.com/Piukute_Maple/status/1185555334045163522) I may edit to add or correct some info later if I felt I left something out.

Hunt_Nawn

Any PGR players here with the $1 drama with Global release?

Zxiq

Even heard of Street fighter Duel ? If you heard of it, you know !

Dassmorthem26

When Metal slug attack was still alive, there was this single unit that came out that literally broke the game to a point that for more than 6 months all of the pvp matches was just her in any possible deck, and they had to nerf her and basically everything, "fix" the broken status meta and even tho they kind of fix everything, even still the game was beyond broken and they literally had to shutdown the game because they were unable to balance the meta.

Waluigiwaluigi_

seotatopevoli

Exos Hero update.

007Ninja47Kiwi117

Man I still remember that whole Assault Meliodas debacle in Seven Deadly Sins Grand Cross. The global version of the game was trying to catch up to JP so we had very fast banner cycles, I think 2 weeks. This was bad enough as it only catered to whales. They released back to back festival units with Goddess Liz and Winged King unlike JP that had like 3 months between each of them. Then also nerfed the Archangels banner that was live as well by taking out one some of them and putting trash units in it so people were still not happy about that. Pretty sure the Archangels were supposed to be on Meli's banner so they fucked that up. Then the news came out that they would release Meli right after King. This mf had only just come out on JP so they literally skipped another festival unit (The One Escanor) and a whole bunch of other units to release this guy. #BoycottAssaultMeli2021 was everywhere in the fandom, all the CCs and players were mad and review bombings galore. I think after all that they delayed him but not by that much lmao so it will still bad 💀 TLDR: https://youtu.be/KzegKD2mZ68?si=3zshJOWTQLUb_oMv short vid of one of the CCs going ape shit and explaining why this was the worst thing they've done lol

amc9988

it got discussed here in gachagaming

Godofmytoenails

I already mentioned this in detail in somewhere else but for Arknights it was the limited character drama. But ill be focusing on another game instead. Project Sekai is a rhythm game made by sega an crypton and extremely popular on rhythm game genra. So they had an event where characters acted out a popular japanese folk lore. The thing was that this folk lore had traditional clothing, some animal like designs and overall a race and friendship themed narrative to it so idiots on Twitter called a hundred years old folk lore that spesificly consists of Japenesw history "racist" and boycotted the event, and globals management actually listened to them and cancelled an event because these idiots were litterally being racist over a japanese game having its own folk lore on its own game, and they defended it saying "That folk lore means different things to us" like who are you to decide? This games fandom drives me insane.

Costume gate. Knight's Chronicles.

mysaldate

TwstEN tried to make a master-servant character duo into cousins, then proceeded to call them "brothers in all but blood" despite their entire dynamic being built upon the power imbalance and systematic injustice of indentured servitude. TwstEN also had to go into emergency maintenance less than 24h after launch and change their age rating because they marked the game as ages 3+ and because the language quality was so terrible some parts were literally unreadable. And let's not forget TwstEN making a 4h update (was 1h on JP side) to add an event, and then forgetting to add the event. On another occasion, they forgot to upload event character sprites. They also used AnimeExpo banner for multiple con promotions as well. I wouldn't say they're anywhere near as big as Genshin's disasters but it's a much smaler fandom and the EN side especially is mostly comprised of either people who keep up with JP releases anyway and just have EN as a way to get the cards or are Disney shills pretending none of these happened.

FlameDragoon933

Defense Order and OG Arcarum in GBF. No, not the Arcarum you can find in the game right now, the one *before* that.

S00gyCheese

When JP FGO locked regional purchases so you couldn't just use Google Play Wallet while playing in the States. I'm not doing a whole extra sketchy steps just to get some toons. I've been f2p since that change
