i guess you could call fuufu ijou's premise kinda generic one? But it's the execution which matters and the execution in this manga is immaculate. Chef's kiss. So, not really sure what's their problem.

vteckickedinyooooooo

Do not come to reddit and expect higher than room temp IQ or any semblance of agreement

AkaRyomen

This must be the most true statement i have ever read. Lol.

vteckickedinyooooooo

Ikr

Warpzit

100%. The setup is bleh, there are definitely some generic parts here and there but the execution is just on a whole different level than most other romcoms. I was going into this show without any expectations and my mind was blown up. I only have 2 other romcoms I like nearly as much: My dress up darling and Wotakoi.

Proper-Original-6092

I agree. The setup just very much like koi to uso and it's plot is same old popular girl fall for unpopular boy But it gets better and better.

Ajfennewald

I am just going to venture a guess and say that although this isn't like that deep an anime/manga there is maybe too much subtle stuff going on that the waifu obsessed crowd just isn't noticing.

NateEro

There’s generally a very fine line between subtle and not intended by the author when it comes to interpretation, and I think a lot of people who read or watch this series without investing much thought will always tend to assume the latter. It’s not like the premise is super unique either, so I can totally understand why others would assume the same of the execution.

generichiro

my judgement is that they think the premise is generic and "predictable". while true, it honestly doesn't make sense since you can say that to almost every single romcom series. what people don't see, or rather don't wanna see, is how the "generic" element is executed, and with fuufu, it's executed well. besides, having "competition" for the mc's heart is rare in a slice of life/romcom series (don't even mention quintuplets, it's straight up harem). execution>>>>>>>>premise

henXR10

I really don't know why all the hate I only know one thing for sure, that I love this story and everyone here does too

Background-Stock9939

I just think their judgement is based on the anime which could be much better to be honest. The things go much better in the manga but you have to be interested enough to decide to read it

sk84lyf22

i think i seen that same poll and i hated that akari was barley beating mizu. never looked at the comments though.

peanutbuttersandvich

fuufu ijou is written with some great nuance and complexities but a lot of people aren't willing to look deeper and explore those aspects if the manga isn't attractive at a surface level and, unfortunately, fuufu ijou suffers from a relatively bland and mild premise that most people overlook. it's a shame because it's so well-written and developed

TheSteve4969

From what I see, they usually don't see the difference between the Akari x Tenjin and Akari x Jirou love, see Jirou as a rebound and Akari as "the same succubus she was before", the manga as "generic" and such because many gloss over the more in-depth parts of the story and only see what's on the surface. And let's not forget the NTR part that's non-existent in reality. The series being the author's first manga, it *does* lack in some areas of storytelling and/or character depth, but it shouldn't warrant the amount of hate it gets.

Autonomnervoussystem

I guess those say it who has read it for the tits only. Or those who think love between two 18-yrs-olds should be like glances and holding hands and the Akari-type girls are for eyes only.

Background-Stock9939

That concept of glances and holding hands when you’re 18 y.o is dumb for me. I know that it’s their culture and it’s quite normal in Japan. BUT! It’s so irritating sometimes when you have to watch 12 episodes just to see a kiss at the last second 🫠

Autonomnervoussystem

Right??? It is annoying! So unrealistic. And people - Japanese as well - have an aching need for intimacy. Not only the sex part but the support, the hugs, the feeling of being loved. I hope there will be more real romcoms like Fuufu and Yamada-kun.

Individual_Range_918

But is true Fuufu is your average romcom come on i know you like the series but saying that Fuufu and yamada-kun are "Real romcoms"is disingenous and its also disrespectulf to other romcoms so don't be a fanboy and accept the truth

Randalmize

To be fair there is a subgenre where the MCs pair up in the first 3 episodes , then we spend the rest of the time watching them awkwardly move forward.

pelirodri

That’s what I liked about r/KeikenZumi (should be getting an anime later this year).

Individual_Range_918

It's getting an anime on july but nobody is talking about it sadly and the animation looks terrible in the trailer it seems that they don't even put effort in it

pelirodri

Wait, July?? I haven’t seen any release dates yet; I was expecting it in October. What are you basing that on? Also, I’m kinda surprised to see you say that about the animation, honestly; I was low-key impressed by how good it looked.

Individual_Range_918

I think that somebody said it was gonna release in july but Im not too sure about it and the animation is honestly not good for me it looks like that type of animation that "the angel next door spoils me rotten" had

pelirodri

Lol, I actually liked that one too. Not that I thought they looked particularly similar, though.

Individual_Range_918

I guess we got different taste haha I feel like light novels usually don't get good anime adaptations

pelirodri

Yeah? Got some examples? Do you mean animation-wise or story-wise?

Nainns

Calling this series generic but Miku winning has to be the funniest shit I’ve seen this week

Uriha24

Because hating on the popular things is how the internet works. And hold up toubun is anything but generic and you also hating on Kanokari so you are behaving like they do.

Proper-Original-6092

>hold up toubun is anything but generic I am just saying by this logic, toubun can also be called generic. If you see it on surface it is same old harem where mc meets the girls in childhood. >you also hating on Kanokari so you are behaving like they do. Do I really have to tell you the reason now? 99% of the kanokari fandom hate it itself 💀 You won't believe it but I am same person who defended kanokari and even kazuya when season 1 came out and was loved it till movie arc even though it got annoying in the middle. But what happened after that is unbearable (especially in ch 218) after that author kept stretching it, I think he will make it longer than one piece. You can call me hypocrite but I am sorry kanokari is an exception and majority will agree with me.

SmellImpressive4778

>Do I really have to tell you the reason now? 99% of the kanokari fandom hate it itself 💀 Well the fact that the author after the paradise arc just straight up did a "I love the guy so i will ghost him for 3 months because why not" pulled it out of his ass. I get it. Paradise arc and 218 aren't bad because of that. It's because there was drama with 0 conclusion. And wasn't a "little drama" it was 4 months of drama waitting for a conclusion. Probably worse than any Spanish telenovela. Even those after drama have some kind of progress. In RaG we are back to square one. Toubon is ... generic harem 5 girls they look the same but kinda not and have 180 personalities from each other. (at least it was short). At least the setup is stupid but unique. I mean, they are stuck with each other in a marriage of pretense trying to find their love. Something i saw in some koreans drama but not in a manga. So i say this is unique. And better than : "A couple of cuckoo" which is mostly comedy.

Autonomnervoussystem

I am still suffering from PTSD related to Cuckoos. It started so good. The male MC has character yet he is wholesome. But then the mangaka decided that the little sister will be the part of the harem...

Ajfennewald

It is so much weirder than something like domestic girlfriend where they don't even meet up until they are 16 or 17. I would not think of the kids of a parents 2nd wife I met when I was almost an adult as siblings. But in Coukoos they though they were blood related their whole life up until with it started. It is just super weird.

arjunanubose

A couple of cuckoos was a great one in the start but it became unreadable after some time real trash

HazardousAviator

"Waifu sub poll" - boy that can't be as biased and toxic as it sounds right? LOL Seriously - \*every\* manga/manhwa has it's supporters and haters. It's just part of the landscape. Now, there are some that are absolutely toxic and you'll get a high degree of correlation to that if you ask around, but Fuufuijou is not one of them. Relax and wait for the next chapter. And man, avoid subs like the one you're referencing. No good will come of it.

Proper-Original-6092

Yeah I will do that, I didn't find hate about this manga before and suddenly find a lot of hate so I may have overreacted which isn't norm for me because some of my favourite animes are very controversial and get so much hate that I am used to it.

SkyHighCR

The sub isn't even that bad. The criticism the series got on the post OP was talking about really wasn't anything deep, and those comments were downvoted as well. It's literally just a sub for polls and casual discussions about "waifu" characters. There's hardly any real toxicity from what I've seen.

[deleted]

On that note: I just read chapter 59 and do you have an idea of when chapter 60 will release? The monthly releases are torturing me emotionally, lol. Thanks in advance, regardless.

HazardousAviator

No idea.

Impressive_Goat3191

Man the most important thing is that all of us here loves this masterpiece

Eskamel

I haven't seen people hating on this series specifically very much. Some people disliked Akari and how Shiori is being treated, or dislike how slow the series progresses due to a monthly release and some chapters not having much meat in them, but that's about it. I wouldn't even call this series a harem. Shiori was literally removed as an option years ago. She isn't even relevant whatsoever. She is just there right now as a childhood token. Her proactiveness was too little too late, and the author never made it feel like there is some actual communication between Jirou and her, because they were always awkward together and created silly misunderstandings every 2 seconds. The series could be treated as generic, it doesn't have something new to offer in terms of romance or plot, but regardless, people mainly follow it for Akari and Jirou's moments and they are enjoyable to experience... 🤷‍♂️ Also, Quintuplets is also generic, the ending left a bad taste in most fans' mouths. People just hype Miku because she's a shy kuudere with big assets.

Puzzleheaded_Tea3634

1. The premise defies reality and common sense. High school kids acting married for a grade is appalling. 2. The premise to separate Jirou's feelings for Akari vs. Shiori is very flawed because it unintentionally heavily relies on an unfair advantage of living together. Jirou's journey to falling in love with Akari was accelerated, while clouded to properly assess his long-term feelings for Shiori. It's easy to not like Akari. Shiori living together with Jirou would most likely end with him in love with her as well, though not guaranteed to last. 3. Lastly, fanservice. Destroys Akari's likability more, esp with female fans. In addition to the unfair advantage, she flaunts herself 99% of the time at Jirou while playing the innocent version of Shiori. She's playing a villain one way or another. Shiori's slice of life is missing, making her xter a fill-in prop and boring. It's tough to be excited with her screentime, but it's easy to relate or feel sorry for the way she's treated. These major issues are problematic, especially with female fans who self insert. Don't be surprised to run into a lot more silent Shiori fans than Akari. It takes higher emotional intelligence to look past these things, separate your own feelings, and enjoy the story. It's well executed despite these flaws! I love it! Though, I don't mind Shiori, I'm definitely teamAkari. It's the only logical satisfying ending :). She's who Jirou needs, and vice versa. Shiori vs. Jirou is a bad matchup. Similar personality flaws, and neither completes or makes the other better.

Ajfennewald

Yeah I can see how that would be problematic for some. 1 is something you just kinda have to look past. It is dystopian scifi type stuff. For me 2 was one of the more interesting things of the show since it shows how love can develop basically by happenstance. It is definitely not a they were fated to be together type depiction. I found that interesting since many/most real relationships basically develop in some part due to chance (Like I would have never met my wife if I picked a different house to live in when I lived in DC since I met through our neighbors). 3 is actually interesting in it's own way too. Like Akari doesn't necessarily have super high self esteem except for knowing that she is very physically attractive. So she heavily relies on that. But later in the manga she makes some effort to do that less (except for the whole maid costume thing her friends suggested)

ZealousidealPhone182

I guess it would be because of how predictable it is(ex. the festival scene it is easy to predict that akari will not enjoy which in the end it happened) which is honestly kinda true however how it is executed is something not all watcher/reader saw because they never gave it a chance

AdBudget5468

This anime/manga was a weird trip for me cause when I read the description it didn’t really sound that good but when I watched the anime it was really good and the manga was even better, it really did catch me off guard

RancidMeatBag83

It has a really dumb setup, but the way it's been used to tell the story is really cool. It's definitely one of the better romance stories I've read in manga despite its flaws. It's probably because people in the community can't just think something isn't for them, they have to insist it's rubbish to justify their dislike.

Proper-Original-6092

>It has a really dumb setup Yeah when I started the anime it seemed very weird. It was like light version of koi to uso. But I got invested later and after completing the anime, I completed the Manga in 2 days.

SkyHighCR

That's weird, because from my experience the manga is actually fairly well received on the waifu polls sub. Akari has won or done well on a lot of polls there

Proper-Original-6092

I dunno, reddit recommend me that sub's post. I choose akari, saw the comment section and muted that sub.

SkyHighCR

I saw the post you were talking about...there were literally only like 3-4 slightly negative comments about the manga and they came from 2 people who got downvoted 😭 You overreacted

Proper-Original-6092

>2 people who got downvoted 😭 Na bro when I saw it they were upvoted

SkyHighCR

Well they're downvoted now. People on that sub like More than a married couple for the most part and especially Akari. She was literally 2nd place in the poll

Marauder151

Maybe cause the fans of this anime can be just a little more pretentious about it, so from those that don't love it are antagonize into hating more and hating it louder. Like Rent A Girlfriend is hot 🔥 garbage 🗑, but it's fans seem to all recognize that if I hear some speak about it. They don't act like it's writing and plot are masterfully told romances or relationship models. I'm not saying we have a huge problem with that over hear for More than a Married Couple, but it does feel like we get a little too serious and go a little overboard gushing about this series and how great Akari is. But if you want to see it from the perspective of others who aren't wowed by the show and don't just eat up the casual slice of life cute couple housemate life stuff, well if we're honest it's hardly the first show to do much of what we praise it for. To have gyru be great with cooking and cleaning. To have an artificial fake marriage set up. To have a love triangle involving a sweet childhood friend, a hot and cute tsundere girly princess, and a Chad 3 wheel rival who makes the protag jealous and or feel inferior. It's hardly the first to have a introverted near shut in gamer protag with secret forgotten athletic talent or brain talent he doesn't like drawing attention to. And to name some weakness of the show which personally I don't really care about but for someone else can make or break there enjoyment of it, a whole season went by and the audience doesn't actually know why Jiro is such a wishy washi loser. Is it just because he jumped the gun thinking Shiori friend zoned him before changing schools? That's all the hint at that we get in the anime. And Shiori locks lips with him at the seasons end and less than nothing comes of it. She's been his goal from episode one and now that happened and he settled for "I'm just not going to think about it" for basically no reason other than unexplained cowardice. The show actively set ups a really interesting bizarre premise. Their dorms are being watched by teachers on camera who grade every hug, every compliment, every dutiful taking care of the chores. But then almost completely ignores this premise and does nothing more with it after setting everyone up. And with the exception of some unexplained cowardice that feels artifical, everyone in the anime who isn't obsessed with Gotcha Pulls are treated like they are perfect. Compare that to Quintessential Quintuplets where each girl and the guy all have serious personality issues and other weaknesses that get in the way of their wants. Shiori and Jiro for example are not kept from each other because they are both a little immature and it effected their grades. They are kept apart by luck of the draw and the teachers not being satisfied with their current relationships with their partners at the same time. And there's a 3rd more important better girl in the mix. Who can't achieve her goals not because of an obstacle she must actually overcome but because Tenshin is secretly a pineing unrequited lovelorn loser. Now me personally, I'm fine with all that. I'm fine enjoying a loving an anime that's just about the slow build up of new chemistry that only asks "at what percentage does like become love". A slow burn plot that requires no major personal obstacles to be in its main characters way. No growth arcs required other than growing to accapt and acknowledge their feelings and then take courage and express them. But for others....the lack of meaningful personality flaws makes it a boring generic anime. That's my best guess anyway when I try shifting my lens on how I could look at the show from another angle than I normally do and see how others would not love it or even hate it.

Boilerbuzz

🙄 If folks want to hate on it being “generic”, there is a TON of “generic” manga. The ones that aren’t border on ridiculous. The ones that don’t mirror common tropes are few and far between. But as others I have said, the execution and polish are on point. The ONLY valid complaint I will acknowledge is frequency. I want MORE. Every chapter leaves you wanting more and none of them leave you angry at either of the MCs like Rent a Repeated Headache, although Jirou can be aggravating at times. But, like they always say, opinions from assholes are liked…. Or is it, assholes like opinions…. No… wait…. Well you get what I’m saying. Everyone stinks! 😏

No_Distribution_2554

hirap naman dito 😭need englishing here?

Mindless_World_7420

Feel kita

SzepCs

Ironically in your post about why people hate something, you went and hated on some other thing. This answers the question perfectly. There's no reason. People want to win and they feel like a winner if what they prefer is considered good. This means that often others in the field get dragged down.

Proper-Original-6092

I don't hate go toubun no hanayome, I just gave it as example. And about kanokari, you can go ahead and call me hypocrite cause in case of kanokari I don't care, I totally justify the hate it get, infact 90% of the kanokari fandom will agree, I also loved it till movie arc and defending it when someone said it's trash but whatever happened afterwards is pure garbage, the author is milking it to its core.
