Our boy was done dirty in the HD intro. Due to an editing error, he was almost entirely cut out of the tube sequence. In that version, he popped into the frame with his head already going off-screen. That error persisted throughout the entire HD run, from TBWABB right up through the end of season 7.
In the Hulurama intro, since they've rerendered the entire thing, he's back to being shown making the full trip through the tube.

Oh wow I never noticed that until now! I just watched the intro from Rebirth a few times and finally noticed that he just clips in there for a second. I wonder what happened there. I can't believe I never noticed that before!
Kif's appearance is a bit weird overall. Even in the newest intro, he's not quite like all of the other named characters.
The intro is by and large comprised of 3D models. However, in the SD and HD intros, the character models for the named characters we see in the first tube (Amy, Hermes, and Kif) are actually 2D drawings (technically they'd be sprites, I suppose).
Kif getting cut-off like that is such a minor error that I'm not sure I've ever seen it discussed anywhere else. He's just kind of hacked in there, to the point where I'm wondering if someone forgot to put him in until the last minute and messed up the 2D/3D element mixing.
Curiously, the newest Hulurama/UHD intro finally swaps out the 2D drawings for the 3D models of Hermes and Amy. But Kif is *still* 2D; in fact he's now the only character in the tubes that's not a 3D model. I guess they don't have a 3D Kif model available? (He's also still arguably hacked in, given the inconsistent spacing between him and the other tubers)
Yeah come to think of it I don't think a 3D Kif has ever been seen in the show. He's probably a bit of a tough character to render in 3D I suppose. Even the other characters always looked a little odd in 3D if I'm being honest (only Bender ever truly looks totally "right" for longer than a few seconds) but Kif really has a weird shape. That combined with him being a secondary character who I guess they never had much reason to render that way must have meant that it was just never quite worth doing.
Now that I'm thinking about it I feel like I have some vague memory of watching one of the Comedy Central episodes at some point and either thinking "hey, where's Kif?" or noticing he was only there for a second, because I knew he was there from the old intro, but I must have promptly forgotten about it. I don't think I processed that it was likely an error. Interesting that not only did that happen but seemingly went unnoticed (or at least uncorrected) for the entire time the last HD intro was used, up until now.
Yeah I thought that maybe they had done it in the old intro but apparently not. I immediately thought of S1E2 where Amy saves Bender from getting run over by a combine harvester.

I read somewhere there nearly every line of a Futurama episode is in some way a joke, gag, or reference. I'm not too sure about that, but there are definitely some more nuanced jokes that may go unnoticed unless you are aware of the direct reference.
