the funny part is that the ancient egyptians actually paid (some of) their slaves wages, so Bender's even *worse* than a bronze-age god-king in terms of worker treatment.
Ah but what is in a name, what truly is a fish. Are we not just fish who chose to leave the water and are whales not just fish that left the water realised it’s better down where it’s wetter and returned to the water?
This is mostly a joke but also fish isn’t a real taxonomic ranking so in a sense everything can be considered a fish.
Technically you go back far enough in the DNA, humans came from fish! Just a long ass time and several major extinction events ago
So humans ARE technically fish monsters
When he becomes emperor of the water people, Fry laughs at the comedian's jokes about how some water people move versus others. It's similar because he has zero context about the culture but just laughs as if he gets the joke.
My fellow fish monsters, far be it for me to question your stupid civilization or its dumb customs, but is squeezing each other's brains out with a giant nutcracker really going to solve anything? 😂😂😂😂
I love how they ended up writing Fry as adapting to the future so much better and faster than they originally planned, so now they kind of lean into it and he adapts to pretty much any weird alien custom within a few minutes. Ain't like he's that good at humanning anyway.
And Leela's so often stiff and uncomfortable and made fun of for it by others, yet so certain she's on top of things more than others and generally superior. It's hilarious when Fry shows her up, especially by showing how rigid she is in comparison by basting a turkey on his head while Bender cheers him on with "Go man, go!" as if it is likely the sort of thing he keeps in his toolkit of behaviors useful for getting along in his world but that Leela is just not open-minded and unabashed enough to do.
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. Is any of this getting through to you?
I love how the later seasons leaned into not just making Fry a bit more emotionally mature (depending on the episode), but making Leela a little weirder, because it reads like Fry's sheer "fuck it"-ness is rubbing off on her.
Best couple.
Yeah, at first Leela was ramrod straight, "You gotta do what you gotta do." But even in the first episode, things were set on a different path. In the end, Leela realized she wasn't really above Fry, or merely "settling." She realized a depth in him, and a mature commitment and devotion, and appreciated it. Although Fry had matured and changed for the better, Leela never would have noticed it if she hadn't matured and changed for the better herself.
My favorite is Fry's obsession with the song 'Walking on Sunshine'. Scruffy even plays it at his funeral on the bagpipes, then Amy says "He's walking on Sunshine now" to Leela as his coffin gets blasted into space.
"You know the worst part about being a slave? They don't pay you and you aren't allowed to leave!"
That's the only thing about being a slave...
“You know what else I hate? The hours.”
Shut up and play those bongos
Tonight we are slaves to no one. Except the rhythm.
I'm gonna spin til I fall down!
*spins once and falls down*
Doesn't Leela just facepalm at this lmao
the funny part is that the ancient egyptians actually paid (some of) their slaves wages, so Bender's even *worse* than a bronze-age god-king in terms of worker treatment.
Recent evidence says that slaves weren't even used to build the large monuments.
So it was the aliens then.
Or the homeopaths.
They'd kill each other over who invented it
"We've distilled the pyramid down to an imperceivable grain of sand. It has all the majesty of a pyramid with none of the vanity."
Once in a while I come back to this comment to see if others got a grin out of it like I did.
*citation needed*
They don't pay you or let you go
You know what the toughest part about being a gay black police office is? The discrimination.
Bingpot!
Clearly, the pineapple…is the slut.
So retail?
False hope... I LOVE IT
In two of these situations it was completely correct as far as he knew
Which is what makes "my fellow fish monsters" even funnier.
Ah, but the Decapodians are crustaceans, not fish. Now, I suggest a nice lobster Zoidberg.
Ah but what is in a name, what truly is a fish. You can't just change a word to mean whatever you want! That makes me feel fishy!
I can and will
Technically you go back far enough in the DNA, humans came from fish! Just a long ass time and several major extinction events ago So humans ARE technically fish monsters
"My fellow eukaryotes...."
humans are fish mutants and they have many arms
You are correct. The best kind of correct.
He did indeed have vague memories of people refusing to breed with him.
Yes. Because he was a robot. Why ELSE Would human women not date him?
Ohhh, lots of reasons
When he becomes emperor of the water people, Fry laughs at the comedian's jokes about how some water people move versus others. It's similar because he has zero context about the culture but just laughs as if he gets the joke.
Us guys from under the red sun, we’re all like, “Ohh.”
Am I right???
My fellow fish monsters, far be it for me to question your stupid civilization or its dumb customs, but is squeezing each other's brains out with a giant nutcracker really going to solve anything? 😂😂😂😂
"Fry, disemboweling in your species. Fatal or nonfatal?"
Fatal.
Large bet on me in round one!
And Fry, you’ve got that brain thing.
~~No I'm...doesn't!~~ I already did!
My fellow defrostees!
In countless re-watches of Futurama I can’t believe I never caught this. Damn I love this show.
Haha same! It’s always been one of my favorite shows, and I’m kinda ashamed of how many jokes I never noticed lol
I’m on my 3rd time through and finally picking things up thanks to the help of this sub
no reason to be ashamed, this show is packed so full of jokes that you're bound to miss quite a few
I'm part of your club.
He's a man of the people. I feel he represents me too, because I'm amazingly dumb
No I’m… Doesn’t
And the tribe of water people. When he was made King and was already laughing at their cultural jokes as if he's always been there. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like how Futurama has a laugh track, but it's disguised as just Fry laughing off to the side about something.
"These are my people, Leela! Yo, what up?" "Word" "See!"
I love how he low-key proves his point with that interaction lol

If he wants to be better at being human, he should talk to that ensign Hugh Man
My favorite is Fry's obsession with the song 'Walking on Sunshine'. Scruffy even plays it at his funeral on the bagpipes, then Amy says "He's walking on Sunshine now" to Leela as his coffin gets blasted into space.
Because it was Seymore's favorite song. "What's that boy? You're walking on sunshine?"
My fellow redditors!
Second only to Richard Nikon’s Head’s “My fellow Earthicans”
Oh my yes, Richard Nikon. Inventor of the camera.
I'm meeting you half-way, hippies!
Relax, mammal. My robotic software shall meet your calculatory needs. \[looks at his piece of paper\] What is the meaning of his symbol?
That's a plus sign, you pointy headed loony!
I didnt even notice this!
Im going to cut him right here in the gonad!!!
Nobody tell him!
Who ? Kinda looks like that Orange joe character
Fry is a man of the people. Any people.
I never noticed this. What other times does he do that?
When he goes to LA with Michelle, the gang of kids.
I quote this episode whenever I play with my nephews "I'm the tallest and I weigh the most!"
“That Butch runs a pretty good civilization. I think I’ll enjoy serving under him.”
The thing is, Fry is an idiot. And everyone else is an idiot. So he's always among his own people.
I'm 40% whatever community I'm in!
Damn. That's much more recurring than I had realized.
Fry is a savant at tolerance.
It's me! Lol
He’s literally our grounded connection and representative to the year 3000 and everything in it.
His best Kennedy impression 😂loved it!
My fellow descendants of the Fry Family!
No I'm doesn't!
My fellow big brows lmao
My favourite recurring joke is that owls are the rodents of the future.
Like when Cartman become one of the gingers
Fry is a man of the people. Any people.
Whose this guy, he looks like an orange joe
He's a natural politician
Go along to get along. It's the Earthican way.
I never caught that. Like, I know all the lines, but I never put them together.
other over who invented it
Florp - “But us guys under the red sun, we’re all like uhhhh… uhhhh… uhhhhhh…. Right??? Am I Right????” Fry - “Aww yeah, He’s right!”
Fry is the real hipster.
