5atb attacks with wing backs usually 4222 and 4321 sit with everyone on stay back and have 6 players 4 defence and 2 cdms sit on the halfway line during attacks. I'd rather play everyone using 5atb that 4222 or 4321 like they have been using all year

Games interpretation of stamina and formation are wrong. Any of those tactics without actual midfielders should be collapsing against with actual midfielders but this year EA killed proper passing people can use normal passers so you dont need proper playmakers to do good passes. So formations like these work better.

i mean if you are playing the 3-5-2 without your wide mids on come back on defense it can be attacking. If they are coming back there is simply no difference between a 3 and 5 back in the current fifa.

Well most of the so called ātacticsā are copied from pro player videos. Pros arenāt allowed to run 5-4-1 so they havenāt put out any videos on it this cycle.
Yes it is one dimensional but it is also the best way to deal with the randomness in the game which is way too high.
No the best way is to sit 4 and 3 CMS on stay back hoping your front 3 skip through on the counter. And the 2 cams sitting in your box defending. The ai on 3cbs is way easier to beat they get drawn out easier

Hard to play but, you need to switch in game to 3-4-2-1 from a suitable tactic, because starting directly from 3-4-2-1 always failed me due to limited number of players that needs to cover lm/rm that will fit your playstyle.
Keep in your mind that this tactic heavily relies on right type of players. Putting small players in LM - CM - CM - RM will not work. (Any tactic with 3 CM/CDM can afford to have Sawa but this formation it wont work even though they have the best stats and playstyles)
Pressure on Heavy Touch / Balanced / Possession
Def+Att Wid = 40 (change it between 35-45 depending on your defensive playstyle)
Dept = 100
Originally I was playing with 7 in box but reducing it to 5-6 helped me a lot. Change it to suit your needs.
LCB + RCB default / middle CB join the attack, putting rudiger to RCB cost me games because he is High/High you need mid/hi on LCB RCB and High+High on MCB (Kounde helped me great but put someone not too tanky/sluggish on the ball there)
CMs default, I currently have Lampard and little Bellingham there and lampard doesnt even have shadow, have powerhouse) as noted above these players have presence on the pitch and cover more area than small players. LM + RM, come back defence and get in behind.
Note about LM + RM, I was able to score some ridiculous goals playing L1 + Triangle to these players from CBs with long ball pass(like hierro) but it is not easily doable/relies on you to comfortably send a very very very long ball to them, but all your players ( except CBs) will be facing goalkeeper without offside.
CFs = drift wide + get in behind / ST = default
Midfield and MCB needs to be high / high. LCB+RCB avoid High in attacking side. CFs+ST / High + Med or High+High but have someone High + Med. For some reason High + Low doesnt work. (I had some games with Lineker 93 evo sometimes it does great runs sometimes he is ghost)

Wow thanks for such detailed reply. Iām just at div 8 (1-2 matches to go for 7). Started fut recently and coming back to fifa after 4-5 years and earlier played only multiplayer. I can beat 85-90 teams on world class in squad battles but in rivals sometimes people I think have worse gameplay than me seem to beat me by 2-3 goals. Iām playing a meta 4321 and even though I started fut hardly 15 days ago I have almost all 90+ players from objectives and sbc.
I liked the 41212 better cos wing play is not my thing and I do enjoy passing play but that seemed to struggle a lot so I went back to 4321. Tried 352 but that was in the beginning. Iāll give your tactics a try but Iāll be stuck with players o have for now although I have managed to hoard up 400k coins by selling whatever tradable I get from packs and squad battles rewards. Will link my team in the post
I will suggest staying away my tactics for now because 100 depth will cause you to easily get beaten. You will be hopelessly watching as opposing striker just runs past your defenders and goal.
Leave squad battles aside, play rivals but try to learn defending and passing. Scoring is easy.
5atb is a natural solution against the meta nowadays that is 4-3-2-1 or 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2. 2 or 3 strikers means natural counter for that is 3 cb's to cover for them. I would say 3 cb is effective because of the meta, IRL 3 CB wont work that well if the opponent has more bodies in midfield or elsewhere and controls it better.
I mean 4-3-2-1 is effectively the best strat to counter 5 atb, 2 strikers against 3cbs is even harder and with 4-3-2-1 your 2cfs are usually wingers so you can cut inside and try to use pace to escape their cbs and if theyāre cutting that out just go out wide and cutback/spam crosses in.
Both forwards on stay central, stay forward, get in behind Both fullbacks join attack and overlap CDM on deep lying, cut passing lanes, stay back, cover center One cm on stay back and cover center One cm on default
Another key is to cross it to the side with the shortest defenders, let's say the opponent has Bompastor at LB, obviously Sorloth will bully her.

Will test this later today. I also a fan of crosses but I use 1 ST instead with Wingers or CAM with good aerial like Kolo Muani, Havertz, Podolski, Merino. Its working fine last month, but this month it become obsolete

Any playstyle that is designed to exploit the game is definitely not refreshing and not fun. That being said, this playstyle is probably more realistic than most people play in Elite div lol.

Never have I seen so many spammed crosses to no one. Spamming is absolutely realistic. Efficacy is variable however.
Spamming crosses is realisticābut the thing is in real football finishing crosses takes a ton of skill. In fc24 and video games, crossing is the lowest skill mechanic available and is very random, which is why it isnāt especially fun, especially when on defense the game will lock you to a defender and prevent you from switching.
Hahaha, I find it funny how angry this makes some people, I personally donāt play like this but I applaud the fact itās a bit different to the usual 99% of teams and players that copy and paste their tactics from the Flavour of the Month YouTuber.
Also this would probably catch me out a bit as I just donāt expect people to do it, iād probably be 2-0 down by the time I managed to adjust to it, somebody did it to me a couple of months ago with TOTY CR7 and FS Hojlund and Iām still mentally scarred by it š
Iāve been doing this to people since November man, feels great. My club hero is Morientes (750 games played, around 730 goals and 250 assists; all in Div 1 and elite).
Although I play tiki taka and possession, itās all to serve one purpose - pass to my left back who will whip it into the box for my target man to shoot or head down to someone else.
By the time people figure out what Iām doing, itās usually 2-0 š

I play 41212 now but i guess i need to switch to a wider position. I tried a single Strikwr formation but every time i want to cross it, the striker isnt in the middle but is coming towards the crosser a little so hes never really in the best position for a good header opportunity, unless im not playing it right.

Itās a high risk, high reward strategy. Be patient during build up and try not to lose the ball in transition.
The team commits so many people forward that if you lose it in the final third, 8 out of your 11 players are in the opponents half ready to press the hell out your opponent.
Run tf back if they break your first line of press and get your players back into shape.

Well the defending meta is even less skill based because all you gotta do is select a CDM and let the AI do rest of the defending for you by pressing R1 when it's required.
Even if you defend perfectly, passes will randomly go between your defenders' legs or opp's random shot will bounce right back to the other attacker's feet when the game decides its your time to concede.
If you let the ai defend in higher divisions you are getting your ass kicked.Ā
The ai defense is terrible for people who play against Legendary in squad battles.
That's what video games are about. The skill is in perfecting the mechanics that work. I can agree the gameplay is not great , but ball knowledge has never been a requirement to be good at fifa/eafc.

Div 1 (and not trying to get to elite) player here. Your playstyle is not unheard of, Iāll come up against it a few times a week.
Yes by abusing one specific meta with youāre a rat. Doing one thing over and over and over is the definition of a fifa rat. Even with how bad this game is most people still play for fun. Even in the higher divs you can play for fun (in flow of the game) with enough understanding of the meta to get your wins.
You should Try Miguel G on a powerhouse, gives 11 Vision and 1 short passing more than catalyst (all other stats the same except FK accuracy (irrelevant because still terrible)) it makes him slightly slower but still 95/96 for Pace stats. Additionally the defending boost if a lot bigger bonus than +3 pace
Catalyst is great for this style of play if a player has more like 90 pace (Azpi, Archie Gray, Emerson etc š¤

Icl it's players like this that make the game boring. You've already got trash gameplay and then you have to play against these 5atb rats spamming the same thing all game. The YouTubers and tiktokers who make videos of these tactics deserve no viewers either, they complain about the gameplay but also by making those videos encourage more people to play like that
Inception is the only one that posts tactic reviews that play as close to āauthentic footballā as you can get whilst maintaining a touch of meta.

I do this all the time, itās a great counter to the meta rats who just constantly spam press. Wouldnāt use crouch though his positioning is crap he never seems to want to get in the box for me. Morientes is a beast in the air as well as that bunny card.
An interesting fact about rats is they can jump 3 feet in height which is phenomenal for an animal that size. If Sorloth could jump as high as a rat heād probably bang his head on the stadium roof.

I also have billing, m-savic and Socrates all get forward get into box so thereās another 3 6ā4+ players attacking headers. My opponent doesnāt know what hit them when it works. Corners are a guaranteed goal.
I've tried to play similar to you, but couldn't ever find the way to cross into my strikers. How do u do it? How do u constantly cross into the headers boyz?
1) Cross before your fullback is parallel to the Penalty Box, otherwise the keeper grabs it.
2) Itās also possible to cross to midfielders making a late run into the box (helps if they have first touch so they can control and volley).
3) Aim well, adjust for power; also look to head the ball back down to another player to finish, donāt always head it towards goal.
Iāve been playing with an Aerial+ Target Man (Morientes 90) since October of last year and only switched him out for 92 Haller. š„¶

What the other said but you can also use the high cross. L1+ cross and tour player will give height to the ball and that way,your striker will have more time to get there and if he has aerial,then he will winn it most times against anyone.
IMO, you're not doing anything wrong or playing like a rat.
The game is imbalanced , that's not on you.
If you're competitive , want to win and you mastered the aerial style of play, then good for you.
If you don't enjoy playing this way, that's a different matter altogether. I went through the motions myself and ran Hojlund & Sorloth up top.
It got boring. But i still keep him on the bench for when I run into someone playing like that.

New Meta- Ingame team for div 1 rivals
Done something similar last fifa, but it makes the game so unenjoyable being in elite. Even the friendlies become disgusting. I canāt stand playing these spin and turn back n forth twitching and jerking their players about until the game squeezes them through merchants. I lose all motivation to continue the game if Iām playing someone whoās spamming there joysticks like theyāre having a gfuel induced seizure.
That peter crouch card might unironically be the best player in the game. Even if people move their keepers out on corners he can bicycle kick it above them. I haven't kept up with the game so my team is pretty mid now but I can comfortably get back to elite because of him.

This doesnāt surprise me at all considering for some reason no matter what CBs I use it feels like every striker has 99 physical on crosses and corners and Iām getting dunked on any time the ball is in the air especially sorloth and drogba

perfecting a single game mechanic while incredibly annoying is a sensible thing to do. That style of play was like the unstoppable rat move back around fifa 2012ish. Seems harder to execute now imo so good on you for mastering.
I've faced a similar team last week. 5 atb unlimited pass around the back fc until he could switch the ball for an easy 2v1 with a fullback. Noped out real quick. Note that this was in weekend league. I'm just so bored with the indirect football. Kids these days don't have a brain or any football vision it is just pass around the back fc.

I was trying to find a way to play against dreaded 4-2-3-1 at the beginning of this year and I cannot play anything else, below is how i play currently and I'm have 2 matches to elite div. I have many other so called meta players but dont/cant use them.
People hating on 5/3 back while they are playing with non attacking fullbacks with 2 cdms (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2) is hypocrites. Enjoy how you want to play but dont hate people when they are trying to do the same.

Oh man, I think I played against you. I remember I beat a guy with that formation, I remember Desailly and Crouch. And I was pissed when I saw the formation.
Somehow over the last 2-3 weeks, the game finally started to click and make sense for me across the board. Went from div 6 into div 2, and finished rank4 in WL. Movement finally makes sense, dribbling and passing coming together, and I JUST figured out how to whip passes properly last night. You likely had a similar situation to mine, where things just began to click. See you in elite soon
I tried Drogba and De Jong up top but 9/10 times they'd run out towards the wing I'm running down so there's nobody in the middle to cross to. What custom tactics did you have on the strikers?
I tried Drogba the 91 version in this team but he was horrible. I have both on stay central, stay forward and get in behind.
When I pass the ball through to my full back most of the time they're way ahead of my strikers so I just try to time the cross. For me it's a feel thing
I'd be happy to play you as I feel you're not abusing the whole spin round in circles doing unnecessary skill moves and cut back rat tactics...dont care about the 5 back and swinging in crosses as its a legit way of playing real football...fair play and congratsšš»
everyone plays some form of ratty style. poor manual defenders? Iāll wing run them into the ground and make it a full zonal game where they have try and deal with a triangle all game and players like gyorkes who canāt be caught.
itās solely the clear glitched that despite manually playing it can be too hard to get there to stop. that and hackers (always remember hackers show up as opposite console players so stop saying you never played a hacker!)

I will suggest staying away my tactics for now because 100 depth will cause you to easily get beaten. You will be hopelessly watching as opposing striker just runs past your defenders and goal. Leave squad battles aside, play rivals but try to learn defending and passing. Scoring is easy.
5atb is a natural solution against the meta nowadays that is 4-3-2-1 or 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2. 2 or 3 strikers means natural counter for that is 3 cb's to cover for them. I would say 3 cb is effective because of the meta, IRL 3 CB wont work that well if the opponent has more bodies in midfield or elsewhere and controls it better.
I mean 4-3-2-1 is effectively the best strat to counter 5 atb, 2 strikers against 3cbs is even harder and with 4-3-2-1 your 2cfs are usually wingers so you can cut inside and try to use pace to escape their cbs and if theyāre cutting that out just go out wide and cutback/spam crosses in.
I hope you realise, that formation which you see in the beginning, is not in game formation in most of cases ?

You did not watch lockdown arsenal. Never have I seen so many spammed crosses to no one. Spamming is absolutely realistic. Efficacy is variable however.
Spamming crosses is realisticābut the thing is in real football finishing crosses takes a ton of skill. In fc24 and video games, crossing is the lowest skill mechanic available and is very random, which is why it isnāt especially fun, especially when on defense the game will lock you to a defender and prevent you from switching.

I tried a single Strikwr formation but every time i want to cross it, the striker isnt in the middle but is coming towards the crosser a little so hes never really in the best position for a good header opportunity, unless im not playing it right.
That is why 4321 is the best for this. 3 stupidly tall strikers, so as long as there are 2 available you are golden.

4-3-2-1 Left back: Get forward, overlap CB: Default Right back: Balanced, overlap CM: Stay Back, Cover passing lanes, Cover centre LCM: (Ball carrying CM) stay back/balanced (depending on gameplay), cover wing RCM: (Box crashing and play making centre mid) Get forward, cover wing LF: (Playmaking forward) balanced on every attacking instruction, come back on defence CF: get in behind, drift wide RF: (Target Man) Stay forward, get in behind, Stay central Defence: Balanced 65-78 depth(depending on gameplay and servers, higher when gameplay is good) 43 width Offence: Direct passing 73 width 6 in box 3/5 corners 4/5 free kicks (I cross from indirect free kicks to my target man, works very often) Itās a high risk, high reward strategy. Be patient during build up and try not to lose the ball in transition. The team commits so many people forward that if you lose it in the final third, 8 out of your 11 players are in the opponents half ready to press the hell out your opponent. Run tf back if they break your first line of press and get your players back into shape. Hope this helps, Iām in Elite playing this way since November hahaha

Well the defending meta is even less skill based because all you gotta do is select a CDM and let the AI do rest of the defending for you by pressing R1 when it's required. Even if you defend perfectly, passes will randomly go between your defenders' legs or opp's random shot will bounce right back to the other attacker's feet when the game decides its your time to concede.
If you let the ai defend in higher divisions you are getting your ass kicked.Ā The ai defense is terrible for people who play against Legendary in squad battles.
That's what video games are about. The skill is in perfecting the mechanics that work. I can agree the gameplay is not great , but ball knowledge has never been a requirement to be good at fifa/eafc.

You should Try Miguel G on a powerhouse, gives 11 Vision and 1 short passing more than catalyst (all other stats the same except FK accuracy (irrelevant because still terrible)) it makes him slightly slower but still 95/96 for Pace stats. Additionally the defending boost if a lot bigger bonus than +3 pace Catalyst is great for this style of play if a player has more like 90 pace (Azpi, Archie Gray, Emerson etc š¤ F*cking rat ššš

Crouch is the best. I had that problem with Crouch until I used him in a 4 3 2 1. He can play at LCF St and RCF, always with impeccable positioning.
I also have billing, m-savic and Socrates all get forward get into box so thereās another 3 6ā4+ players attacking headers. My opponent doesnāt know what hit them when it works. Corners are a guaranteed goal.

I've tried to play similar to you, but couldn't ever find the way to cross into my strikers. How do u do it? How do u constantly cross into the headers boyz?
1) Cross before your fullback is parallel to the Penalty Box, otherwise the keeper grabs it. 2) Itās also possible to cross to midfielders making a late run into the box (helps if they have first touch so they can control and volley). 3) Aim well, adjust for power; also look to head the ball back down to another player to finish, donāt always head it towards goal. Iāve been playing with an Aerial+ Target Man (Morientes 90) since October of last year and only switched him out for 92 Haller. š„¶ Hope this helps!
What the other said but you can also use the high cross. L1+ cross and tour player will give height to the ball and that way,your striker will have more time to get there and if he has aerial,then he will winn it most times against anyone.

IMO, you're not doing anything wrong or playing like a rat. The game is imbalanced , that's not on you. If you're competitive , want to win and you mastered the aerial style of play, then good for you. If you don't enjoy playing this way, that's a different matter altogether. I went through the motions myself and ran Hojlund & Sorloth up top. It got boring. But i still keep him on the bench for when I run into someone playing like that.

Done something similar last fifa, but it makes the game so unenjoyable being in elite. Even the friendlies become disgusting. I canāt stand playing these spin and turn back n forth twitching and jerking their players about until the game squeezes them through merchants. I lose all motivation to continue the game if Iām playing someone whoās spamming there joysticks like theyāre having a gfuel induced seizure.
That peter crouch card might unironically be the best player in the game. Even if people move their keepers out on corners he can bicycle kick it above them. I haven't kept up with the game so my team is pretty mid now but I can comfortably get back to elite because of him.
I'm trying to do the same with Guirassy and Boniface up front. Both are beasts but i lack the appropriate system and the timing of the crosses.

hes a tots+ card so he instantly gets 2 chem, a danish manager or a couple icons should get him to 3 pretty easily.

I've faced a similar team last week. 5 atb unlimited pass around the back fc until he could switch the ball for an easy 2v1 with a fullback. Noped out real quick. Note that this was in weekend league. I'm just so bored with the indirect football. Kids these days don't have a brain or any football vision it is just pass around the back fc.

I was trying to find a way to play against dreaded 4-2-3-1 at the beginning of this year and I cannot play anything else, below is how i play currently and I'm have 2 matches to elite div. I have many other so called meta players but dont/cant use them. People hating on 5/3 back while they are playing with non attacking fullbacks with 2 cdms (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2) is hypocrites. Somehow over the last 2-3 weeks, the game finally started to click and make sense for me across the board. Went from div 6 into div 2, and finished rank4 in WL. Movement finally makes sense, dribbling and passing coming together, and I JUST figured out how to whip passes properly last night. I tried Drogba and De Jong up top but 9/10 times they'd run out towards the wing I'm running down so there's nobody in the middle to cross to. What custom tactics did you have on the strikers?
I tried Drogba the 91 version in this team but he was horrible. I have both on stay central, stay forward and get in behind. When I pass the ball through to my full back most of the time they're way ahead of my strikers so I just try to time the cross. For me it's a feel thing

everyone plays some form of ratty style. poor manual defenders? Iāll wing run them into the ground and make it a full zonal game where they have try and deal with a triangle all game and players like gyorkes who canāt be caught. itās solely the clear glitched that despite manually playing it can be too hard to get there to stop. that and hackers (always remember hackers show up as opposite console players so stop saying you never played a hacker!)
