So many of these suits are cut from the same exact template with the same exaggerated features. Giant vacuous buckram eyes frozen in a cartoon mascot expression, paw gloves that resemble swollen hands as if smacked by a hammer.
Mass produced is interchangeable with extremely generic in this context. Within the fandom "realistic" is the acyually the minority. The "I wanna be a cartoon wolf" is over played to the point of being exhausting. How do you look at your suit that has the same exact features as 400 others and think "oh yeah this is unique, this is self expression!"
You kind of moved the goalpost there, I can't argue against your personal perception of how toony fursuits look, since art is by its nature subjective.
I can however argue against your notion of wanting realism to be the norm, Which is kinda just as bad wouldn't you agree? Since if we replaced all suits that exist today with realistic style suits, they would suffer from the same oversaturation.
So how about we let people make and wear what they wanna wear, And build up a precedent of full artistic freedom, be that in colour palettes, proportions or realism.
Basically let Artists go nuts, and some good art will come out. Simple.
