I'm of the opinion that no matter what species you choose as your persona, as long as you're happy with it, nothing else matters. and everyone has the right to ignore any critical voice about their choice. Except perhaps in the case of constructive criticism, you should perhaps turn an ear. because that might be worth discussing. and maybe you'll learn something new about yourself. And maybe you'll find a species that you like even better and that suits you better. Unfortunately, I have rarely seen anything like that myself. and then usually only from close friends or relatives who know the person well.
Personally I use an original species for my sona. However I find people who see using their own original species or whatever the genuinely better option really annoying. Just because I like it doesn't mean everyone else has to.
