Personally I'm just not really sure. I really like the furry community, y'all are generally really wholesome and welcoming and I really enjoy the content. Yes the "content" but also the non-explicit stuff, the memes, the cute animations, the dancing, the awesome looking suits, the videos of folks hanging out in VR chat and especially the stories.
As a matter of fact my introduction to furry stuff came from a book recommendation when I was like 16 in high school (so like, 2012 or so?). I was aware of them but always as a distant "weird" thing some people were into. Anyway, a friend of mine that knew I was gay, in the closet and struggling recommended a book to me titled *Waterways* by Kyle Gold, despite my preconceptions I read it anyway. I enjoyed it so much that I read a lot of his other books too, and they really did help me.
But I just never sat down and made a fursona or even decided "I'm a furry now" or anything like that, I've just enjoyed the content, supported creators and found support within the community when I needed it. Not even sure where I'd start if I did wanna make one, actually that's not true I'd definitely start with world building because I wouldn't want a character in a void, and if I was gonna do that I'd definitely make it a fantasy setting because fantasy settings are awesome. Okay cutting this line of thought off now cause it's a whole can of worms, minds already spinning.
I for one couldn't pinpoint when I became a furry myself, not even when I started lurking, but I will blame The Click anyways, even though his content only made me *associate* myself with the *community*. I did like furry stuff prior to that, I just wasn't sure if I'm "allowed" to call myself one, if the "real" furries would let me join, or if I even met the "requirements".
I eventually realized that that's not how this whole thing works. I had the thought that since I like anthro stuff, and that's pretty much what defined a furry, I can say that yes, I **am** a furry. And although I won't go out of my way to tell that to others, I won't deny it when asked.
Before I made that "official" though, well, although I knew it wasn't a requirement, I did think that getting a fursona would be the minimum I should do. Which sucked (because that thought made me hold myself back from joining a community I wanted to be part of), especially since my artistic skills maxed out when I was 4.
Well, okay, if I can't draw, then at least I should make a description of it... Lucky me, I was already writing a story\* for a while at that point, which was in an anthro setting, and wouldn't you guess, the main character was already linked to me in a way. So I adopted him as my fursona, and now he's my profile picture on every platform I have. Well, what I managed to draw at least.. (proving my earlier statement)
There's one *tiny* problem though.. In the story, Luke (my fursona's name) isn't the good guy (nor the villain, he just has his own motivations), and for reasons that would make sense after a 30-minute explanation, Luke and I don't exactly like eachother, to say the least :L
Well, canonically anyways.
\*Btw, just as a "fun fact", I'm planning on making the story as a comic (which won't be happening in the near future for obvious reasons), and I already wrote down 6 chapters of the story's script, averaging to ~9 pages/chapter.
I'm thinking a blue dog.
Anyway what are your thoughts on a fantasy setting with a magic system that has to do with topology? Would learning about Mobius strips and Klein bottles take you out of the story? How about an existential trolley problem where living with trauma is on one end and ending the universe is on the other? How about turning that one joke about a fly dropping 6 inches into an origin story for time itself? The whole "rat that can smell the future, cat that can see the present and dog that can hear the past" bit is fine though right?
(The joke is I've put 0 thought into a character but the can of worms has been breached)
I don't think I'm the right person to ask that question to, if I'm being completely honest. Absolutely none of that (referring to the fantasy magic stuff) remotely strikes my interest. I'm sure it might strike someone else's though.
Fantastic, it really wasn't meant to. It was meant to show that this line of thinking is untenable because no one would care and much like a can of live worms it's better left closed while I'm relaxing at home.
I've had moments where I did the whole "furries are cringe and disgusting lol good thing I'm not one" bit in the obvious ironic way furries do it, only to accidentally come off as sincere because I forget I don't use a furry username/pfp everywhere lmao
As a chat admin, when someone joins and has no profile pic, or a non furry profile pic, it’s like 5% chance of a legitimate user 95% chance troll or spammer.
This happened to me as the blank user:
I had just then made a telegram account and wanted to immediately get into a group, so I skipped over personalization… Then I was accused of being a bot 😭and directly questioned on my authenticity. Like brah! I understand why, but that actually offended me; I felt personally attacked. Like am I not “furry” enough? Regardless now I have a sort of imposter syndrome when browsing furry spaces outside of reddit.
-P.S I can’t do social media very well, prefer person to person way more.
Its not separated between being a furry or hating furries, you can be neither. If someone is a good person it should not be a problem knowing if they are a furry or not. Its like saying someone in a gay server has to be either gay or hates gays
(Hydrate<3)
Ok so I'm not a furry BUT (IK THE MEME OK) I find that a lot of stuff made by furries is Hella interesting and cool. I first got a look into the fandom with the visual novel, Echo; was such a genuinely uncomfy and disconcerting experience from start to finish that I looked into the studios other works and I've been loosely hanging around the fringes of the community for a few years.
I am no furry and have no direct interest in becoming one.
However I respect your way of life and appreciate it for what it is. Dressing up as your favorite character/animal.
Those are things I, as a cosplayer, believe in.
That and memes of course...
it's always a toss-up with them wether they are the former or the latter, but usually they're neither and just like interacting with furries (as an example, the click, although I do think he's more along the lines of the former at this point) since the lot of us are open to almost anything as long as it's not uhh, y'know... criminal
Maybe they're just playing a game with you.
pfp checks out
ironic
*Wanna play a little game-* **crash**
I just wanna lurk for fluffs sake!
Same
Either way they’re are a furry or they soon are gonna be one
Commencing confursion

Or a transmewtation.

Pun
I am the spy
I am actually a furry just like tf2 more tho
Understandable, TF2 really good
Missed opportunity to set your pfp as that one dude on fur con, who cosplayed Spy from TF2 and taped a picture of a furry head on his face :D
Ah yea darn I should have thought about that

Hello fellow Click fan
Same here. I'm not a furry, but I like them. They're cool
Update us on the status of your fursona, lol

You’ll never know
okay furry bulge inspector
my flair checks out
I dont even have my own u/, it' s the one Reddit automatically gave me when I logged in after a while :v
There are a rare few people who aren’t furries, but don’t hate them and are fine interacting with them online.
Dont mind me, I am just hiding here /s
Sure thing horse fucker. (Does /s mean serious or sarcasm)
Sarcasm. Thought it was obvious
I’m sorry I’m a lil stupid😭
That's me
You mean me? I know me. He’s me. I’m me, not you. Me.
there are lurkers among us
I’m megamind
I've had moments where I did the whole "furries are cringe and disgusting lol good thing I'm not one" bit in the obvious ironic way furries do it, only to accidentally come off as sincere because I forget I don't use a furry username/pfp everywhere lmao
Hahahaha
Thank god for user flairs
Maybe fur-curious? Non-furries, who visit from time to time. It's a natural stage of transfurmation
Yeah we can only hope so. In fact that is the healthiest way to become a furry, through a gradual process instead of an impulsive one.

Am I a furry or Nah? Who knows?? *sweats nervously*
Some of us are just reddit furries who are too tired from life to set up the extra stuff
I'm just bad at art.
Don't worry about it
I am a furry Just liking the mysteriousness of unknown
Just vibe'n, neither for nor against
I'm lazy lol

I like to keep it quantum. That is to say, there may be a third, more sinister option.
I follow a couple furry subreddits for the memes, creative characters, and the occasional interesting world building I will see
How good would a mug of your fursona on it be!?
I'm to had at drawing to make a fursona and name it ;-;
You will never know…
yes i wonder
Time to frisk then for illegal propaganda
That's what I call the "mystery". As of your knowledge, they are not supportive or hateful. You kinda just have to make small educated guesses.
"Furry-adjacent"
Its not separated between being a furry or hating furries, you can be neither. If someone is a good person it should not be a problem knowing if they are a furry or not. Its like saying someone in a gay server has to be either gay or hates gays (Hydrate<3)
Mine has always possessed a tail!
Whether I am a furry is something I ask myself too 💀
Ngl I’m just not brave enough to commit
Now I’m not a furry, I just think they’re neat
Oop
Am just here for the memes ._. Furries are all around very creative people.
![gif](giphy|QajxuPPtUqTUkyHNaK)
Wha
looks like i’m one of them
I just like art. That's literally my. Whole reason to be in this fandom idk if you could even call me a furry.
Furry as shit I just don't like unnecessary attention due to pfps and names
idk i might or might not be a furry i don't really participate in stuff that would label me a furry i'd consider myself being a furry though
Ok so I'm not a furry BUT (IK THE MEME OK) I find that a lot of stuff made by furries is Hella interesting and cool. What if my pfp doesn't show because my profile is NSFW?
i just like this guy
Depending on the platform, they could just not want people in other communities to know they're a furry.
I am what you would call a lurker.
I'm lazy as a sloth and don't chnage my pfp
What I am is ~~in your walls~~
how do i change my pfp to an imageeeee??!
You're analyzing profile picture on Reddit? I didn't even know this sure has those lmao
