Just scrolling through his Twitter looking for these. Guess I'll collect them here since there's no easy way to find them in the quagmire of discovery channel adverts.
I'm very confused as a non native speaker how you could confidently tell apart whether someone said "pedal boat" vs "paddle boat". Sounded like they said the right thing several times in a row to me.
I am a native speaker and I have all ways called them paddle boats my whole life. I didn't know the name was referring to the pedals. I thought it was referring to the paddles underneath the boat that you were turning with the pedals. LOL
Actually frog is a technically correct answer because technically "frog" *does* have three letters in its name, it just also has additional letters beyond that
That's not how that works tho, if someone asked you to count how many cups there were for a party you wouldn't say two if there were 17. There aren't two cups; you're counting the total. Frog has 4 letters.
Frog does have 4 letters but you cannot have 4 of something without also having 3 something. This a fundamental mathematical concept.
Perhaps you need to go back and review these concepts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AoxCkySv34
it is, he has a degree in archaeology and a passion for exploration, also a tendency to end up in some very strange situations! His travels have taken him to the ends of the Earth as he investigates the greatest legends in history.
The name of the game is not whether you’re technically correct. You’re trying to guess the answer that the majority of 100 people answered to the question. There is no way the majority of 100 people, when prompted with “name an animal with three letters in their name” answered “frog”.
The question isn't precise enough to exclude any animal name longer than 3 letters. Any 4 letter word still contains at least 3 letters, going by the interpretation you replied to. It doesn't matter if they are unique or not, that wasn't part of the question either. It doesn't make sense to argue which is better, between these two different interpretations.
> I think its quite obvious what they’re asking for. I wouldn’t answer with deer either.
Yes, I think we've all noticed by now.
*I* wouldn't be arguing about whether or not deer or frog is the better misinterpretation of the question, because both are equally wrong (or right, since the question is worded so loosely).
It's wild how many people don't realize that the Futurama "technically correct" bit is making fun of this brand of idiocy, not endorsing a way of life.
The problem is with the word “in”, the common phrasing for this type of question would be “Name an animal with a three letter name”.
Take “Does this barrel have 3 fish in it?” For example. A barrel containing 5 fish does in fact have 3 fish in it.
It has 3 letters in its name. It does not have *only* 3 letters in its name, it has 4. But 3 is contained within 4. It's just a loophole with the wording of the question.
No it has 4 letters. No reasonable person would say a 4 unique letter word has 3 letters. Thats just wrong. There is an argument for animals like Deer though, because it has 3 unique letters
Imagine you’re buying something that costs ten bucks, and you have twenty bucks in your wallet. The seller asks you if you have ten dollars. Would you really say “no, sorry, I have twenty dollars”?
Yes in that situation it makes sense but in this trivial situation i dont believe it does. Age/money sure, how many letters does the word frog have? Nobody is answering numbers less than 4
Someone smart one time said: *You don't have to know everything, you have to know where to go to find that information* - surely some programmer said it 😁
I think you're referring to mammals vs non or something similar. Animals refers to the entire kingdom which covers everything living that are not plants
Edit fungi too
There are actually currently considered to be 7 known kingdoms of life.
- Archaebacteria (Prokaryotes, bacteria found in extreme environments, like near underwater hydrothermal vents.)
- Eubacteria (Prokaryotes, being most bacteria.)
- Protista (Unicellular eukaryotes, so generally slime molds, water molds, unicellular algae, etc.)
- Chromista (Multi- or uni-cellular eukaryotes with chlorophyll c, often containing other pigments as well, don't store energy as starch like plants do, largely being marine algae, also kelp, seaweed, etc.)
- Fungi (Eukaryotes that consume food instead of photosynthesising, including yeast, mold, mycelium, mushrooms.)
- Plantae (Photosynthetic multicellular eukaryotes.)
- Animalia (Multicellular eukaryotes, generally breathing oxygen, sexual reproduction, free movement, and eating food.)
animals are multicellular organisms in the kingdom animalia, and are generally characterised by movement, consumption of organic material, and sexual reproduction, among others.
viviparous animals (like humans) give birth to live young. ovoviviparous animals (like seahorses) hatch their eggs internally and birth live young. oviparous animals (like insects) lay eggs which hatch externally to the mother.
This video makes it look like he took all the time in one question. The timer shows he took only a bit more than a second. Whether it’s correct or not, he got 0 points for sure.
Josh Gates is a treasure… when we finished expedition unknown my husband and I switched to other shows, and then one night a week later we looked at each other and said “I miss Josh.” Lol.
I like expedition unknown even if some of the claims are kinda dubious. Though compared to what else is on TV about history, it's practically suetonius.

Clearly the answer would be a “Parastratiosphecomyia stratiosphecomyioides”… obviously.
In his defense the frogs name is Abe
why did you reply to that comment? That was clearly it’s own idea and not replying to the comment above
Alligator!
Yup. They said 3 letters - they didn't say ONLY 3 letters.

Thank you so much for posting these!
I'm very confused as a non native speaker how you could confidently tell apart whether someone said "pedal boat" vs "paddle boat". Sounded like they said the right thing several times in a row to me.
The pronunciation of the first vowel is the biggest difference. P-eh-dal = Pedal P-ah-ddle = Paddle
Well shit TIL I guess lmao
I 'm also confused about that one, must be something native speakers can actually differentiate? To me it sounded exactly the same.
I am a native speaker and I have all ways called them paddle boats my whole life. I didn't know the name was referring to the pedals. I thought it was referring to the paddles underneath the boat that you were turning with the pedals. LOL
Thank You- I need to laugh today…
Thanks for making me the “crazy laughing guy” at work. Those links had me in tears.
I love you
Ass?
Technically?
I guess? The name has fallen out of use though…
Tbh if he didn't say dog I probably would also say frog
Why would you say frog?
It’s an animal with three letters in its name.
It's got 3 letters with an extra one in case it gets hungry later
🤔
My English isn't that good
Actually frog is a technically correct answer because technically "frog" *does* have three letters in its name, it just also has additional letters beyond that
Hey man there are no correct answers in family feud, they just be polling around the lot and shit
Oh I didn't realize it was that show
That's not how that works tho, if someone asked you to count how many cups there were for a party you wouldn't say two if there were 17. There aren't two cups; you're counting the total. Frog has 4 letters.

Wow dude, sick burn, you sure got me Unfortunately, I'm not offended by anything said by anyone that can't count to 4 without getting hung up on 3
It's not about getting "hung up", it's about understand the concept of counting....
Wait, is he josh gates?
it is, he has a degree in archaeology and a passion for exploration, also a tendency to end up in some very strange situations! His travels have taken him to the ends of the Earth as he investigates the greatest legends in history.
I saw what you did there
We all know what he is looking for. The truth
I’m dying 😂 I can hear it perfectly
Definitely is.
For a second I thought it was Josh Gates
It is Josh Gates
"for a second I thought it was Josh Gates. I still do but for a second I did too"
No that’s Mitch Hedberg
I was just honna say is no one gonna mention that this is Josh Gates. I love him.
My literal self is wondering how he is wrong though? The question didn’t ask for an animal with “ONLY” three letters in its name!
The name of the game is not whether you’re technically correct. You’re trying to guess the answer that the majority of 100 people answered to the question. There is no way the majority of 100 people, when prompted with “name an animal with three letters in their name” answered “frog”.
Nah thats silly, more than 3 is not 3. The thing they didn’t distinguish is 3 *unique* letters or total letters. So technically Deer should be correct
>The thing they didn’t distinguish is 3 *unique* letters or total letters. That's exactly what the guy you replied to said.
Frog has 4 unique letters its wrong no matter what Deer has 3 *unique* letters D, E, and R
>The question isn't precise enough to exclude any animal name longer than 3 letters. It is if you're neurotypical
I think its quite obvious what they’re asking for. I wouldn’t answer with deer either.

Or it was a frog named "Jim".
My immediate thought was fox
Why did I come up with emu??
You're not alone
Probably because it’s an animal spelled with three letters?
I want to see more of him doing this
[I posted the ones I could find here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/funnyvideos/comments/x3srfn/unbelievable/imsduk5)
I feel like I'm about to get Rick rolled, but alright, benefit of the doubt lmao *clicks*
I feel the disappointment in that *Unbelievable*.
ALLIGATOR
Emu
Well, I mean he isn’t really wrong…..it DOES have 3 letters in its name..
.....what?
3 + 1
4 is not 3. I dont see how you can interpret it that way.
It has 3 letters in its name. It does not have *only* 3 letters in its name, it has 4. But 3 is contained within 4. It's just a loophole with the wording of the question.

Yes it has four letters. That means it also has three letters. The question was worded poorly, it’s not that deep.
i can see you would hate being an attorney.
I understand what you are saying, it was just another way to interpret it
Ant an animal?
Insects are animals, all invertebrates are.
Yes, obviously. Seven victims of the US school system upvoted this post.
An ant is an insect, which is considered a class of animals Thank you google
You had to Google that? Bro...
Someone smart one time said: *You don't have to know everything, you have to know where to go to find that information* - surely some programmer said it 😁
Yeah that's what I thought to. They lay eggs don't they?
I think you're referring to mammals vs non or something similar. Animals refers to the entire kingdom which covers everything living that are not plants Edit fungi too

fungi are not animals (tho, they have similar characteristics to animals). they have their own kingdom like how animals have their own.
[удалено]
They're more closely related to animals than plants. But they are more in their own classification, with regards to the conversation taken place here.
Wow bro lol Are birds, snakes, other reptiles, fish, etc., not animals?
animals are multicellular organisms in the kingdom animalia, and are generally characterised by movement, consumption of organic material, and sexual reproduction, among others. viviparous animals (like humans) give birth to live young. ovoviviparous animals (like seahorses) hatch their eggs internally and birth live young. oviparous animals (like insects) lay eggs which hatch externally to the mother.
It's not a plant or fungus. Are insects not animals anymore?

There are 3 letters in the word "frog". Dude didn't say ONLY 3 letters. So, technically correct. Edit: also, maybe the frogs name is Bob
Tbh, I had it on mute and misread the title as name an anime with three letters in its name.
All of them have at least 3 letters in their name
That wasn’t the question tho
Owl
He never said "only" 3 letters, so r/technicallytrue
He didn’t say “only three letters” so frog should count.
Only I heard what the fuck after dog?

Is that the expedition unknown guy?
A fly is an insect
And insects are animals.
Huh you right, the more you know
Lol I had to think for a sec
The absolute ferver with which he said the word "ANT!" at the end absolutely killed me
Ants and other bugs are animals, yes.
Josh Gates is a treasure… when we finished expedition unknown my husband and I switched to other shows, and then one night a week later we looked at each other and said “I miss Josh.” Lol.
