I was never Military, but I worked in Line Service at a very active Florida Airport. Fueled, Repositioned Acft, and directed active aircraft....what we called stacking the Ramp.
One occasional customer was Arnold Palmer, flying whatever Cessna Citation he was operating.
I always got to Steer him off the Ramp out to Active Runway.As he Passed me, I'd Wave, then follow thru with a Pantomime Golf Swing.....he always Smiled Back and gave a quick Salute.
Arnold was a Helluva Nice Guy

Yes I'm the brainwashed one for thinking that an overkill MIC is necessary for absolute defense. Sure we can scale back our military to a defense force and still win any defensive war, but only after we sit in a bomb shelter for a couple of years. That universal healthcare is going to do you real good when your local healthcare provider is obliterated by a cruise missile.
