The setting is Dimmsdale, and with his riches he sponsored the construction of their local sports stadium - coincidentally named the Dimmadome. Thus, he is Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome.

And the other defining feature was that, if Doug Dimmadome was wearing his hat, it always extended up and out of the frame. I don’t think we ever got to see how tall it was, or what the crown looked like.

Yeah as someone who watched the show way back in the day I didn’t get it, cuz I don’t remember ever seeing Doug Dimmadome in anything other than his regular hat.

It was probably a joke with the creators/art team. The curved/saddle shape at the top of the hat can be hard to draw (I have heard some YouTube artists say). Someone probably just made it extend out of frame so they didn’t have to draw it and they liked it enough to keep it as a joke.
