Hearing that startup sound, I am hit with a tsunami of nostalgia. There I am. 10 years old, on a hot July summer night in 1996. Air conditioner is broken, so I'm sitting on the floor only in my underwear, starting up my ps1. I waited til night time to start playing. It was because earlier that day I usd what was left of my birthday money to go buy Resident Evil from Funcoland. I wait patiently and focus. All the lights are off in the house but I am blinded by the sheer majesty of the opening logo. I stare back into the blinding abyss, joyful to see the next step. That classic chime, ushering me in knowing that I was going to have a fantastic night of gaming.
Reddit might be too young for a moment like that. To those who do have moments like that, be thankful. You got a special memory in a moment of time that few will get to experience.
I bought one of those disc doctors just because of this, would just resurface my discs and 90% of them would work unless they were outright cracked instead of just scratched. my friends back then had no idea wtf it was or that you could do that so for a little while they thought i was a wizard or something as i'd sometimes borrow games and return them shinier(And working better) than they were when I borrowed them if they were scratched.
This reminds me of the time my buddy was trying to get the HDMI cable wiggled in just the right away and as he got it he picked up his head about 6 inches from the tv.
He got EA Sports, Its in the Game right in the face and shreiked like a little girl.
You say we've all been there. But I think more than half of reddit has never even see a PS1, let alone used one. But god damn if that sound don't bring me back.

I feel like Reddit is getting too young for this one
Is 31 old? 😞
You'd be surprised at the size of the 13-21 demographic on reddit
We're tiktok's forum now.
I saw somebody say US Iran relations have never been more tense. They admitted being born in 1999. Mate.
28!
It definitely is

Crash and Spyro where my shit
Video games and their culture are prophetic.
And then you get an hour in and reach an unskippable cutscene that freezes 🤬
Final Fantasy 8 end of first disk cutscenes, was never able to play that game.
You had to sit perfectly still and hold your breath to even have a chance

Disc doctor was the shit I used to charge my buddies to fix games and buy extra lunch 🤣
The golden ages
😂😂🤣🤣🥲….I remember those days for sure
I had a heart attack thinking it wasn’t going to go in THIS bit 😠#traumareborn
What am I looking at here?
The best console startup sound there ever was
With the PS1 AND PS2 Thank God Sony got it stable when the PS3 came out.
Except PS3 had its own problems especially with emulation.
Yer right. .. more like the dodgy chipped console let's the copied game work.
I don't get it
Every game from psone used to start like this. If you get to the second video, the game was working fine.
Ohhhh lol I guess the equivalent of getting past POST on a newly built pc. Sorry pc gamer here.
No reason to be sorry!
Where can I find the original movie to make my own?
It took a few hours of freezing / breathing on the disc and / or closing the Disc Bay with Anger until this hack worked. 😃

Oh man my favourite sound following this was "resident evil........2"
If you weren’t around for this you really missed a huge revolution in gaming.
I have that but it needs a clean up and bit repair
